Well, you've read the notes, the notes sung for their supper, and now it is time for you to post until the singing for their supper cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: RECTIFY!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
I want to post last night but fell asleep.
-
I am glad the story of the Stalled Scooter aka Bad Batteries had a happy ending
-
And it was so nice to see that TCB and Kevin had an opportunity to,have a meal together. Someday I hope to be able to meet with TCB and George
-
First post after Vixmom, after BK!
-
And it was so nice to see that TCB and Kevin had an opportunity to,have a meal together. Someday I hope to be able to meet with TCB and George
I certainly hope so, too!

I certainly would love to, too!

Good night, George!

Good night, Tom.

Good morning to all

And wasn't Writer's Block a true crime?
-
Good morning, all!
-
Oy! Did I sleep late. It was great and I feel dandy.
-
DR KevinH, I;m happy your Tour trek is going so nicely.
-
DR TCB, you're on vacation? Nonsense. You're on another adventure.
-
DR John G, the memoirs progress. I send chapters out every now and then. My brother Randy's been getting everything I've written, but he doesn't respond much. I fear he may be embarrassed by some of my confessions or not necessarily happy about my airing the family's dirty laundry. My cousin Sue Ellen and Rob Berman are the only ones to have read everything. Sue usually responds with very helpful comments about the view from outside family members or remembers additional details that I'd forgotten. I sent my friend Pam the chapter on graduate school to see what she remembered, and I sent DR Ginny the chapter on college.
-
I need a trip to market ASAP. Then I want to tackle more GUYS & DOLLS. I had a nice email exchange yesterday with Music Theatre International over some questions.
-
Tuesday morning greetings! I'll be making myself scarce in a little over an hour because Fr. Richard's clergy study group is meeting here at lunchtime. I've made sure the place is dusted and straightened and that the beverages are available (coffee, tea, water, soft drinks). While they're pretending to be back in graduate seminary, I'll do some errands in the southern Dayton 'burbs and take myself out for lunch.
-
Good morning, all.
-
And a late one it is. I, too, got to sleep in, which was very much needed.
-
Coffee!
And I'm thinking I should run down to either Stew Leonard's or Bagelman and treat myself to a fine bagel with a yummy cream cheese spread.
-
It's a crime that it's only Tuesday. Yesterday felt like it was about three days long.
-
TOD:
Yep, the first thing that came to mind is HELTER SKELTER.
But there are other great ones. I'm just not killing myself trying to recall them at this moment.
-
Yesterday felt like it was about three days long.
Yes sir, it did. Even while, for me, it was just a day off.
-
And the word of the day is: RECTIFY!
Oh dear. I am suddenly reminded of an appointment I have on August 31st.
-
That's better than remembering it on September 1st DR CHAS SMITH!
-
Last night's rehearsal was fine, but I don't understand ACTING.....you don't have to ACT.....it's much better to just be.....or even just act.....but there's lots of ACTING going on around me....
-
And now here is a photo of our display case.....down on the bottom shelf on the right is a sign that says:
Thanks to VIXMOM and CHAS SMITH from
Haineshisway for some of the items on display.

What is sad is that the volunteer ushers from the Senior Center will come and put their HUGE handbags, programs, scarves, water bottles, and sweaters on the top of the case, so many things can't be seen.

Helter Skelter
The Devil in the White City
For the Thrill of It - about the Leopold-Loeb case (there are several good books about the case)
Manhunt (The Search for John Wilkes Booth)
Candy Mossler: Her Life & Trial.....this case had EVERYTHING!!! I remember the headlines from the 1960's!!!
-
DR Jrand65, how long are Putnam's rehearsal periods, in average number of days/weeks? And for plays vs. musicals?
I ask because in following along casually as we do here, it seems like they're shorter than what I'm used to in this here community theater.....community.
-
Very nice display case, DR Jrand65!
I wish more theaters would take the trouble to do that kind of thing.
-
TOD:
Helter Skelter
The Devil in the White City
Yep! And to those I would add:
Lizzie Borden: the Untold Story by Edward Radin
-
The murder of six-year-old Lisa Steinberg in the late '80s was brilliantly written about in both a non-fiction and a fictionalized version:
WHAT LISA KNEW - by Joyce Johnson, normally a fiction writer, and
WAVERLY PLACE - by Susan Brownmiller, normally a non-fiction writer.
-
What is sad is that the volunteer ushers from the Senior Center will come and put their HUGE handbags, programs, scarves, water bottles, and sweaters on the top of the case, so many things can't be seen.

The handbags would come in very handy when you do THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, I guess.
-
Indeed, a very nice display case!!!
-
I'm a proponent of both displays and extensive program notes. For my taste we see all too little of either.
-
Good morning!

DR KevinH, I;m happy your Tour trek is going so nicely.
Thanks, DR elmore!

TOD Part the Third:
IN COLD BLOOD - which is what started all of this. I've wanted to reread it for years and haven't done it yet.
Also, special mention for ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN (and its follow-up THE FINAL DAYS). Those newspaper guys knew a thing or two about writing a good true crime story.
-
Nice video!!!
Agreed! I love that song and the three S's perform it admirably!

That's a really nice display, Jrand. However, did you notice that the OBC CD is upside down? Otherwise, it looks like the only other thing you would need is a picture of the London cast recording (http://castalbums.org/recordings/1776-1970-Original-London-Cast/3465/) of the show. Maybe you could print out the picture from the link and put it in a CD case, even though it's never been released on CD.
;)

HA! Thanks DR GEORGE, I will fix it when I go in tonight.....I hadn't noticed.
DR CHAS SMITH we usually have five weeks for a rehearsal period....and usually four nights per week. We have a stage and a rehearsal space....the next show can't use the rehearsal space when the current show is in production because the space is our green room....so that's a couple of weeks with only two or three days in addition to the five weeks.
So it's five weeks of four days, two weeks with only five days total, and then eight rehearsals on the stage/set. Sometimes we can get an extra week onstage for a complicated show....but we try to start as early as we can in June and try to end before mid-September.....then we have FOUR mainstage productions of 7 performances, 2 weeks of a Youth Theatre Shakespeare Workshop, and one week of a Children's Workshop (both of which work onstage during the day and create havoc for the production trying to get up and going).
-
I am in charge of the display case, so I try to get lots of interesting things......
Yes DR FJL....handbags can be invaluable....especially at Victoria Station on the Brighton Line.

The line is immaterial, I've heard.

I coulda sworn I said it first thing this morning, but obviously I didn't -- thanks for the video, BK. Will be looking forward to others.
-
Oy! I could easily have scrounged up a display copy of the OBC LP jacket and included it in the package. Sorry I didn't think of it, because it would have been easier to place in there right side up than that tiny little CD jewel case. :D
-
Jrand - Of course, you'll want to have the Vic Mizzy theme from "The John and Abigail Adams Family" running on a loop to get people in the mood for the show.

LOL that's funny DR FJL.
You are correct DR ELMORE - the line doesn't matter.
I have the OBC LP that I am still looking for......I hope to find it in the next few days. We don't open until Thursday.
Tonight is Family Night.....or Nightmare....as the case may be.
-
Make sure all those souvenirs are locked up tightly, Jrand.
Sometimes, things take a walk.....
-
Health vibes to you, Ron!
-
Yes.....the case has sliding doors in the back, and it is up against the wall....so I am sure someone would notice something being taken.....
-
And I now I must be off the flip the CD right side up....and then abstain from voting for Independence...

Courteously.

Got a copy of the new Blu-ray for The Ratings Game starring Danny de Vito and directed by him, too. For years, the score composer has allowed people who did not scour the end credits to believe he wrote all the music in the show, including all the faux TV themes, affiliates song, and the faux TV network logo music. People give him credit, he says nothing about him not having written any of that stuff. In fact, he uses some of it in his score. Well, there's a really nice booklet with the Blu-ray and I'm happy to say the producer, David Jablin sets that record straight rather strongly with a lovely and big shout out to the person who did write all that music (and lyrics) - me.
-
I am glad the story of the Stalled Scooter aka Bad Batteries had a happy ending
Didn't I read where you posted about having the batteries tested before you left??
-
DR Jane, I received a bell for my birthday. I had never had one before that.
I do like it a lot. Although I always slow down when passing people (whether i have the bell or not).

Congrats on the official recognition, BK! And darn...back in March, I bought the region 2 Spanish release DVD (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AOK0IW6/) from England for about the price of the Blu-ray. Oh, well. It's double-dipping time. :)

I'm up to "If I Were A Bell." Two ballads to go and Act one is finished!

George is getting mighty close to 58000!

I am not surprised.

Today a bell, or call out, was not given and we were fine with it since the person went to the far side of the path when passing me.
Yes, sometimes I am on the outside of the path and Keith on the inside.
-
George is getting mighty close to 58000!
Ooo! I probably won't save it, though. 60000 is much more of a millstone than 58000...for me. If anyone wants their 58000 (or whatever) preserved, I'll be more than happy to, if I'm at a desktop computer. My tablet isn't so great at doing that, but I'll do it!

So, just curious why so few people have mentioned the video. It really means squat to me whether it's liked or not, but to not mention it seems churlish and makes me think no one is reading the notes.
-
Crazy day and not in especially good ways - but we're very close to having some interesting ALS news in terms of a last-minute cast addition and I can only tell you if it happens I will be one very happy Jew.

You should remember that I don't listen to most of these because I am very sensitive now to certain voices, and listening on the computer hurts. It isn't a reflection on the singers, just a result of the nerve damage in my ears.
-
I did mean to comment that I agree with two works mentioned today, In Cold Blood and The Devil in the White City.

One of the most interesting threads ever on Home Theater Forum (and there have been some notable ones) currently involves a person who claims to own full rights to a very desirable bunch of 1950s sci-fi films, and he has possession of most, if not all, of the most important elements (negatives, prints, etc.). The community at large is enjoying a rare conversation with this guy, including BK who has put up some wonderfully calm, lucid and eloquent rebuttals. And BK is not alone, as the thread is attracting others, one of whom has allegedly won a court decision regarding one of the prime titles, and ... well, it's like watching some really good drama leading up to the courtroom scene. Or just an eventual shutdown of the thread if it gets rowdy, who knows. But it's been oddly civil so far, and I would hope that doesn't happen.
And I apologize that the above paragraph is shorthand for what's going on, so don't feel silly if you have no idea what in the HELL I could be talking about. I just wanted to acknowledge a most interesting event in an area some of us care a lot about.
-
I found the shorthand version interesting.
-
PAGE FOUR DANCE!!
-
And on that note (F#), I must be going. Tonight is Theater Artists Olympia's monthly board meeting, and then depending when that gets out, I might go to a late movie with my friend Margo.
Be back later.
-
I read the notes in the early am but I did not have my headphones handy so u didn't listen to it yet
-
I will at some point
-
And I look forward to it

This has been a rather somber worrisome day one of my coworkers called to say her fiancé had a stroke this morning we all like him very much so it has affected the whole office.
Vibes please for Jon

Oh man. He's got 'em.

Major Vibes for John!!!

Then I received an email informing me that a lady in the church who I have known for just shy of 50 years has died. Two of her daughters grew up in that church with me and we are still friends. She was one of the counseled and chaperones and Sunday school teachers all the time I was growing up
-
Maybe I've been too literal, since I thought the "millstone" was every thousand, since a mill is a thousand.

Weird, long day today. I read a few early posts on my phone, but for some reason, the pictures were off, so BK's picture was on Ginny's post and I was thoroughly confused about why he was posting about Fr. Richard.

So sorry to hear about that, Vixmom. Vibes of comfort.

DITTO. You don't hear positive news like that every day. That's excellent.
-

I loved it. That Hugh Martin arrangement is transcendent. And each of the young women is wonderful.

Starting to watch the Cybill Shepherd version of The Lady Vanishes. Elliott Gould, Angela Lansbury and Herbert Lom co-star.
I saw this back in high school before seeing the Hitchcock, and I loved it. I wonder if I will after all these years.
I will say this, the first half-hour is fun. Richard Hartley has composed a gorgeous score. George Axelrod has punched up the script, adding a Third Reich element that includes Shepherd doing an impersonation of Hitler.
-
I don't think I even knew about that version.
-
The thing on the Home Theatre Forum is sad, tragic, and funny all at the same time. The man involved is notorious. And he did lose the court case involving one film and yet he will not release the elements he has to the people who actually legally own that title now. This guy has been causing this kind of trouble for decades - I don't know a single person who doesn't loathe him. And, from what I understand, the way in which he acquired the elements on the title he doesn't own was, to put it nicely, underhanded.

Congratulations on finally being acknowledged, BK
-
Thank you for the thank you, Jack.. I Am jus happy you were. Able to use them

Well, it was a completely competent, worthless remake of The Lady Vanishes that had plenty of charm, good music and atmosphere. Not much else. In other words, so what?
-
Good night, all.

REALLY?

Have you seen the 20013 remake?
-
I am reading "I Capture the Castle".
-
I can't believe it - so we have one of the lowest posting days in our history. And George is where? What show is he producing or watching or binging on? What a revoltin' development this is and frankly after the mostly irritating day that has just finished, it is just another irritant. Oh, well.
-
Good evening!
-
Sorry I have been E & T, I just got back to the hotel.
-
BK, Penn said, "Back at you."
-
The Penn and Teller show was very enjoyable.
-
The show started at 9:00 pm, and was over in 92 minutes.
-
The hard part was fighting the crowd to meet Penn.
-
The show was probably about 90% full.
-
So fighting the 1300 plus people together up to see him was not easy.
-
Finally, Sandy went over to the security guard and pulled the "cripple" card
-
Still, it worked, and they ushered me over to the side of the crowd and Penn very graciously called me over to him for a photo and an autograph.
-
He is a very nice man and he is so good with the huge crowd
-
I didn't get to meet Teller, because he had his own separate crowd.
-
I was starting to get very claustrophobic so I needed to leave.
-
Anyway, it was a little cooler today. I think it was only 103 degrees today.
-
We went down to the Luxur for the Titanic Exhibit.
-
It was so amazing seeing the large piece again. The Luxur has it until 2018
-
If you have never seen it in person, I highly recommend it.
-
Then we checked out Mandalay Bay and The Excalibur.
-
After that, we came back and relaxed for a bit before heading to the Rio.
-
Tomorrow it may be even cooler. It might not break one hundred.
-
Tomorrow we have no big plans during the day, but we will probably go downtown in the evening
-
DR Elmore, you are correct. This is another adventure.
