Title: FRIED, FRAZZLED, AND FERKLEMPT

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were fried, frazzled, and ferklempt, and now it is time for you to post until the fried, frazzled, and ferklempt cows come home.

I was awakened by the phone ringing at six in the a.m., got a bit of sleep with an annoying dream after that, then got up at seven and watched a little Weather Channel in the recliner.

Coffee!

My first senior moment like that one was at age twenty when I completely slept through some fellow student's recital I was supposed to be accompanying at something like one in the afternoon.

(Oddly, for whatever reason, it didn't matter -- I think because sometimes these things were hardly even attended by anyone, but it also had something to do with who was involved.  I wish I could remember.)

So are you telling me it's going to get worse??    :)

I pulled a good one the other day,  setting the mail on top of the car and walking across the driveway to do something, forgetting about the mail, and driving off to the store later with it still up there.  Thank the gods it's a winding hilly driveway, so that the articles conveniently fell off in one spot near the house and were easily recovered later.

But that's been a weakness for years.  The first thing I drove off with on top of the car was at around age 28, in L.A., and the second was about ten years ago -- again here in the driveway but the object (an early cell phone) was never found.

So, it's a rule:  NEVER set anything on the car.  I'm not alone in this folly.  You WILL very likely forget it's there.

But the mail thing the other day -- it actually did occur to me that it was a senior moment.  And I didn't like that one bit.

Does it count as a senior moment if you monetarily forget that you were told something in complete confidence, and are about to mention it to someone, and then suddenly have to stop talking to keep from revealing the confidence?   Or does that happen at all ages?

Oy.  I have done that, just stopped talking or clumsily segued into something completely lame.

I did remember my last dream, which must be based on the end of the McGlinn estate office. The paralegal Geri brought some movers in to clean out part of the office where I worked. Jason Graae was in the dream, and we were working on some benefit.  Geri did not stay to supervise and whewn I got to the office, everything was gone.  When I woke, she was calling the movers for me.

TOD:
I had a couple bad senior moments when I was only about 20 years old and I was in college. I was a dance major taking a choreography class and we all had to do projects where we choreographed something for multiple dancers. So, naturally we cast each other in our dances and one my class mates cast me. I showed up for all the rehearsals and knew my part, but when it came time to be at the studio to perform, I completely forgot. I felt horrible. When my classmate realized I wasn't showing up, she grabbed another student and taught her my part and quickly. The hilarious thing is that she grabbed the best dancer in the whole program. This woman could do anything, and she just happened to be around and didn't have anything else to do. I still felt bad though.
The other senior moment I had when I was 20 years old and in college was that I forgot to go to one of my final exams. But the teacher let me make it up later.
I've had plenty of senior moments as an adult, but none of them were as bad as that. I haven't let anyone down, just myself...like having tickets for shows that we completely forgot to go to.

I haven't decided if I want to buy the Microsoft Office Suite outright, or pay the annual fee for a license.  As for my little programs, I'm keeping my old (and still quite working) computer.  I don't know about my printer, though.  I might need to keep that on my old computer and just transfer things to it to print.  We'll see.

It's an opera for which Charles Strouse wrote both the music and lyrics.  Sarah Brightman (early in her career...before some of her later vocal and physical affectations ::) ) played the title character.

I also have to make a shopping list or I will forget the very thing I went for.

Tell me about it.  I'm guilty of this one more often than I care to imagine.  And now I have another little story to tell.

I had to run some errands today, one of which was stopping at the supermarket for one specific thing, and anything else I thought of while there would be fine.  After reading your post I very nearly made that list re those errands -- but I knew, due to the nature of them (blah blah blah) that I wouldn't forget anything.  Right?

So, I was nearly done picking up the dozen (yes, it had become a dozen) items at the store and was ready to start moseying toward the cash registers when I suddenly remembered:  the THING.  It had become the last thing I thought of, and was very nearly forgotten.  Thanking the gods and tipping my hat in the direction of DR Jrand65's post, I picked up the item in question.

(I can hear you all wondering what it was.  It was a jar of horseradish sauce.)

Anyway, I then ran the other couple of errands, planning to fill up the gas can (for lawn mower, etc.) last.  I decided, however, to make one additional stop, and as I finally turned into my driveway I looked down at the BIG RED GAS CAN -- and what issued from my lips will not be repeated here.

It's three miles, one way, to the nearest gas station, and I could have just said 'oh, well...' and put that off till tomorrow.  But I was so furious with myself I decided I'd best learn my lesson by turning around and going back out to get it.

BTW, my usual mistake is intending to fill a gas can but forgetting to put one in the car.  So you see, you can't win.

I'd been reading bits and pieces about the new opera, THE EXTERMINATING ANGEL, based on the 1962 Bunuel film.  It had sounded interesting but hadn't exactly lit a fire under my arse until last night when I took a few minutes to read the review in The New Yorker.  Now I want to see it.  The Met will have it ... not this coming season, but the next... And on that note (B-natural), I'm leaving work.  A co-worker and her guitar-playing musical partner (they call themselves "PC and J," she's Jamie, the "J") are performing downtown at a local restaurant (Dillinger's) and I'm going to go see them perform.  It's mostly a bar with (what I consider to be very pretentious) limited food options, so I won't enjoy that part, but the concert will be good.

She will  be on Jimmy Fallon's show Thursday with Alec Baldwin.  I assume they'll perform the song they recorded for her new CD.

Just read that the great Toots Thielmans has passed.  He was someone who was a huge influence on my young musical life with his great song Bluesette, which I wrote about in Kritzer Time.  Ninety-four years old and playing right up until the end.

I first heard this on a Vikki Carr album.

Well, they were very good.  The place, Dillinger's, really isn't made to have music playing, but I was sitting right next to them, so it wasn't bad.  Jamie told me that they're going to expand soon, and have a room for performing with speakers built in.  That'll be nice...and so much better than how it is now.

Then, I'll go home and check out my new computer.  I won't get it all set up right away.  I still have to clean up my computer desk. :P I was going to yesterday, but I didn't.  Oh, well.  I plan on having this new computer for quite a few years, so I'm not in a rush. ;)

Be back later.
No rush DR GEORGE.

Very true.  I came home and didn't even unpack my computer.  I needed to balance the TAO checkbook, and that took a while.  Then, I wanted to ketchup a bit (just a bit) on FB, so that took a little longer than I expected (which is to be expected ;) ).

Topic of the day:  Once, I totally forgot that I had an early morning meeting with one of my book vendor reps about an hour before I usually get to work.  One of my staff called and I RUSHED to work without even taking a shower. :-\ Fortunately, I only live a mile away, so I got there about 10 minutes late.  My rep was very nice about it.  That happened several years ago.  That rep has since retired and the company got bought by another book selling company.

The other forgotten meeting only happened last month.  At work, we have a monthly meeting of the people that my supervisor supervises.  The four supervisors and the four selectors.  I just had a brain fart and went to lunch literally a minute before my Outlook calendar sent out a 15-minute reminder.
Title: Re: FRIED, FRAZZLED, AND FERKLEMPT
Post by: George on August 22, 2016, 11:56:25 PM
I come back from lunch and they're all in the meeting.  I did go into the meeting and apologize, but it was okay.  It's not like there was a hugely important matter to discuss...it was just a regular meeting where we caught up on stuff.
