Not too much on the agenda today.  Might get out and do a little yard work.  But we'll see.

I have to dig out the instructions for My Procedure which is on Wednesday morning, because on Sunday and Monday I have to make sure I don't eat certain things, and Tuesday is liquids day.  So one must shop and be prepared with all the right things.  Fun, fun, fun.

This evening, a small cocktail party at the neighbor's house for friends and family of those who are in his regular poker game.  That will be short but nice (I'm happy not to have a long evening of it), and whilst they are off for an evening of poker I will watch something really good.  What that will be remains to be seen.

I haven't done this in a while, but last night I was ready for bed and turned the TV on to see what TCM was running that might be pleasant to get fall asleep to.  The 1932 Karloff "The Mummy" was just starting, to be followed by "The Black Cat" and then some Val Lewton films.  I love a night of programming like that, and it was oddly relaxing and pleasurable doing a little reading and hearing the film softly in the background.  I eventually conked out with the TV still on, but didn't wake up once all night.  It provided a kind of white noise to sleep to, and that was just the ticket.

Yesterday I guess we had a new mail person.  We got all the mail for the house next to us.....I hope that didn't happen all the way down the street.

The problem is that our house is on a corner and faces a different street than our address is.....   We face Edgewood, but our address is Fairlane Drive.....

They put the slab down incorrectly back in 1959 when they built the house.....

My visit with Mom yesterday was pretty depressing.  She'd like to go to Michigan to visit her friends the Stewarts and the Moores - they're all dead.  And she can hardly walk from her bed to her sofa, but the flowers she planted right outside her window are doing real well.

Well that was fun.  It was rainy, so we didn't even have 15 people, but they were all fun folks.

We laughed and talked and ate and laughed and laughed.  It was fun.  Two of my sisters and four of my girl cousins were there.  They are all so funny.

The daughter of one of my cousins was there with her husband and their little boy who is four.  He took a liking to me and was talking up a storm and telling me all kinds of stories about how he remembered me - which I don't know how....but he was pretty funny, too.

His grandma told him that he and I were cousins, and you would have thought she gave him a big piece of candy.  His eyes got big and he said....."Jack, are you really my cousin?"  And I said, "Yes, Lyndy, we are cousins."

LOL......he was so happy....he shook my hand when he left....

This is why the idea of a kindle or nook is attractive. I just don't like reading on them.

I love my Kindle.  I read every time I eat (when I eat by myself) and don't have to try to hold the book open if it has a tight binding.  I can just lay my Kindle on the table and press the page-turn button when I need to. :)

I have both on my phone and a few books on each. Maybe I'll try them again.

I don't like reading on my phone or my tablet because they have shiny screens, whereas my Kindle has the e-ink that is non-reflective.  It's so nice reading on it.  I just have to have an external light source, so I can't read in bed with the lights out...which I really wouldn't want to do anyway, but if I did, I couldn't.

Then, I visited with my friend David.  He and his wife just got back last week from visiting her family and their friends on the east coast.  They drove all the way back in a car that her grandmother gave them.  It's a tiny sports car.  I never found out what kind, but it's a very small two-seater.  I can't imagine driving across the country (let alone, fitting) in something that small.

I'm listening to a downloaded radio broadcast from 1984 of a Dutch radio cast recording (performance?) of The Baker's Wife (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Lieve-Leven-Het-1984-Radio-Cast/5280/) by Stephen Schwartz that I was able to come by. ;) There are only three performers, so the three of them sang "Chanson," and the one woman sang a verse of  "Proud Lady."  I have no idea what she sang about, but sang it, she did.

My visit with Mom yesterday was pretty depressing.  She'd like to go to Michigan to visit her friends the Stewarts and the Moores - they're all dead.  And she can hardly walk from her bed to her sofa, but the flowers she planted right outside her window are doing real well.

 :(

I am so sorry, Ginny.
