Then there was the TOD which is helping to shift me back to Friday. I think the culprit here is the book sale, as this is the only one I go to on its Friday opening; all the others this summer were Saturday for me.

Now isn't that interesting to the rest of you dear readers? I knew it would be!!

He was a good sport and lasted until after lunch. He has been napping on and off so the curtains are closed shutting out the wonderful view from our balcony.

You probably don't want to get me started on drivers and cell phones. (But I'm afraid you just did.)

I know from my own early and very short experiments at just TALKING on one for a minute that it's one of the worst things you can do while driving. This was years ago, and all it took to get me to stop was just being aware of the total "amnesia" I recognized upon ending the call - and I'm a serious, better than average driver; I love driving and I love doing it well.

A phone conversation triggers a completely, utterly different kind of concentration and brain activity than a conversation with the person sitting next to you, and it shouldn't require doctors, psychologists, and lawmakers more than about five minutes to recognize that and blow the whistle on it. Well, they do, but it's the blowing the whistle part that's hard. But I'll go them one better in proposing that using an earpiece or other hands-free device doesn't completely alleviate the problem. The CALL is the thing, and even in the best of us it takes our concentration to a different place.

And TEXTING? I can't even fathom it. (I can't competently text in the best of conditions. If you put me on the road doing it, just shut down the whole town for everyone's safety.)

I completely agree with BK's prescription, but here's what mine was in having previously thought about it: First offense, $1,000 fine. Second offense, $2,500 fine and 30-day license suspension. Third offense: $10,000 and welcome to a year without driving. I hadn't even considered jail time, but of course we could mix and match and come up with an even better combo platter. Some cities and states are cracking down on this, and I don't know if the laws have better teeth than they used to, but you'd probably need a whole additional squadron of police out there to have any hope of truly enforcing it. The practice is rampant.

Best VIBES to that poor doggie and owner. I wonder if a single neighborhood has the power, or could lobby for it, to have signs posted at every entrance to said neighborhood warning drivers that they'd best not even try it here...

I've never really been a fan of this film. Too slow-moving for my taste. However, I can see why many people like it.

The disc has many good extras, including a feature-length documentary on Lewton.

I tried one of them, and the sound was fine.....so someone must have read my complaint and done something.....eventually all of the 1 min. movies will be gone, and we will be back to normalcy.

The premise of First Impressions is that the whereabouts of Jane Austen's first draft of Pride & Prejudice, an epistolary novel titled First Impressions, has been discovered. Murder and mystery commence.

I enjoyed it, but The Bookman's Tale is truly wonderful, a mustery with much heart and emotion.

At Amsterdam Avenue a lady with the app that gives bus arrival times told me after I'd waited nearly 20 minutes for a No 11 bus that one would arrive in two minutes. And it did, with a NOT IN SERVICE notification, and it passed us.

After another five minutes she said there would be one in 10 minutes, but a No 7 would stop on Broadway in 2 minutes, so I walked over to Broadway, and a No 7 bus passed me by with a NOT IN SERVICE sign. 20 minutes later a No 7 bus picked me up. What the fat hell?

An entire week here, lucky you. The problem with cruises is the short amount of time in each location. Without the ship I never would have seen Rhodes :)

I like Eder. the research on this recording is pathetic: Hershy Kay is not listed as orchestrator, nor is Trude Rittman for her input. The recorded version of "Dream With Me" is not the simple song sheet BK recorded but the concert arrangement made by Sid Ramin and based on the one in the revue "By Bernstein." There is a full ladies' chorus, not the original mermaid duet, for "Neverland,"the orchestra is larger than the 1950 Broadway one, the Captain Hook is dreadful, and the scholarship about the reconstruction nil.

The Bernstein office should be embarrassed by this.

We want to raise money and this is one way that will help us do it...an outdoor movie and barbecue! It's happening tomorrow and the weather reports that I've read said that there will only be a little rain, and partly cloudy, not completely overcast. HOPEFULLY, it'll stay that way. :)

There was something called a hand pie, which was essentially an empanada stuffed with mac and cheese and burnt ends. Sadly it was nowhere near as good as that sounds. I may have to play around with it. Nothing bad, but just bland. And I'm sorry, but that combination should have been anything but bland. I don't think there was enough salt in the pastry dough, which is essential, and there were no traces of burnt ends or any meat in there.

Oh, I see what you mean. I was thinking that the ends of the empanada were burnt, but "burnt ends" must be a specific food product of some kind.
