Susanna Moross is in town for a wedding.  we have played phone tag for two days.  We will communicate today, since I am stuck home today.  I have work, I'm waiting on the second half of Guys & Dolls, Act Two, and our water is being turned off at 11:00am until late afternoon and I want to be here for that.   The last time this happened, my bathroom ceiling fell in.

Wednesday morning greetings!  Last night's oral history videotaping was such fun!  I was up front with the current director and one of my/his support staff members, now retired.  We were joined by 3 student assistants from my era, my friend Becky who worked at our sister campus, and Richard, representing our community borrower clientele.  They have 90 minutes of raw footage for the archives.

After lunch today Richard and I are going to visit Mom on our way to the Apple Store.  He has a Genius Bar appointment for his laptop, which may or may not have a virus.  I wouldn't be surprised if he comes home with a new computer...

I didn't think APPLE computers could get a virus......or so I've been told repeatedly by owners of APPLE computers.

Still no letter about why I got money from Social Security....a mystery amount....

If I don't get a letter tomorrow, I will call them.  Since I share my checking account with my Mom and we both receive DD Social Security payments....I don't know which of us the money was sent to....so we shall see.

Another photo from the library reminiscing for the 50th anniversary.  In 1985, the library staff had a baby shower for me in our workroom.  The tall redhead is Virginia Brown, my professional mentor who had been retired for 6+ years, and between us is my mother-in-law Harriet.  I consider them my 2 "Middletown Moms" and miss them both.

The current library director has put together a fabulous Gardner-Harvey Library slide show.  Use your down and up arrow keys to scroll through.  The photos are not in precise chronological order, nor are they captioned, but I've offered to help him with that.

Something's afoot with Moonshine & Mistletoe, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, Subways Are for Sleeping, and I have the remainder of Guys and Dolls Act Two.

I've been advocating for Subways for YEARS.  If something is happening that's good news and it's about time.  I was, in fact, thinking of doing an entire Kritzerland devoted to the score and would try to get Orson Bean to come in and do it.

It needs a lot of work yet. since the materials were left in chaos after it closed.  I was always surprised that Tams-Witmark had not taken it and cleaned it up after the closing.

In other news, I just wolfed down two (count 'em) home-assembled platters of SKYLINE CHILI...and I am a happier person for it.
Title: Re: REDISCOVERING
Post by: ChasSmith on September 14, 2016, 05:47:38 PM
I overdid it on the beans, though.  I mean, too many of them went into the mix (I add them to the chili).  This was careless of me, especially following so closely on the heels of DR John G.'s comments re the kidney beans.  I did use kidney beans, and I guess that's what both Skyline and Gold Star use, but I've tried pinto beans and far prefer those.  Too many kidney beans, and they take over the flavor and texture.  I threw in the whole can of beans, though, and that's just too much.  I believe half a can of beans per one can of chili is ideal for my home brew.

Pintos I would eat. Kidneys belong in a body, not in bean form.

Watching a cute movie called Endgame about an overweight kid whose brother is a sports legend while he's a nothing. But he's great at chess, and of course, he's going to show his whole family.

Two people from San Antonio, Sandra Cisneros and Santiago Jimenez Jr., won the National Medal of the Arts today in company with Audra McDonald, Morgan Freeman, Philip Glass and Mel Brooks. Very nice.

Tonight is actually the live finale, so I'm that far behind.  Oh, well.  That's what OnDemand is for...and actually, the whole season is available.  Usually, only the last two or three epsodes are available.

The first performers of this third season was a 4-woman singing group (contemporary R&B) and they were good.

I don't know from SUBWAYS ARE FOR SLEEPING....I remember seeing the LP cover once....but I haven't heard the score.

DR ELMORE.....a recording of a show means more of us out here in the hinterlands can advocate for a production......

Tonight's performance of THE ODD COUPLE was attended by only 89 folks....even though we had sold 119 tickets.....

AND I am done with my duties for the 2016 show season....only a couple of meetings and clean up days to deal with....

Had a wonderful visit with Richard Sherman.  Listened and enjoyed a project dear to his heart that never came to fruition - we're going to see if we can do something about that.

How exciting.  I can't wait to hear all the details.

I'm also glad something's afoot (and ahead) with Moonlight and Mistletoe, too.

That I can reveal.  The producer wants to do a recording.  the logistics are a bit scary at the moment since the cast for the reading has scattered.  I have my fingers crossed.

I can't wait!

In other news, I just wolfed down two (count 'em) home-assembled platters of SKYLINE CHILI...and I am a happier person for it.

Skyline must not be the brand I ordered online, because what I got was nasty.

The more I write the more confusing it becomes as far as people's names and relationships.

That is one of the biggest edit errors I see in new books.  Using the wrong character name.
Title: Re: REDISCOVERING
Post by: TCB on September 14, 2016, 10:24:04 PM
Since it isn't a spelling error or a grammatical error, it isn't easy to catch by a casual editor.

AGT always manipulates your emotions with some of the acts, but I get suckered in every time.  When the performers are good, they're really good.

I've always wondered how some authors could write their books without keeping track of all of the characters.
