I'm gonna do what Nick does with the signed Twilight Time Blu-rays - anyone who orders $100 of Kritzerland CDs gets a signed copy of the Sherman CD for free.

But because you dear people have them all, I will, for here only, allow you to buy the CD and get a signed copy.

VERY happy to hear of plans for the Sherman recording.

A question for BK:

You mentioned Doug Haverty's USB turntable.  When you've transferred LPs into the digital realm before, is it this same equipment that's been used, or has it been on various setups?  How about acetates?  Do they require something different?

These transfers have always sounded remarkable.

Here's a question - when did America's Got Talent (or even American Idol) begin using young kids?  The earliest example I can find on Google is 2013.

I think they had allowed kids to audition from the beginning, but they've never put a kid through to the end because, well, they're kids!  I missed watching this season when it was broadcast, so I'm ketchuping through OnDemand.  I've now seen the first four episodes.

I don't mind the rain as much as the drastic drop in the temperature.

I had a brief email this morning from Singdaw. He said he's fine, but very busy with work. He plans to return to HHW eventually. Nothing new, but it was good to hear from him and to know that Bruce's report from a year ago is still current.

Re BK's AT&T problem, I had very similar experiences with Verizon when I lived in Alexandria, VA. They'd come out to fix something and knock out half the block. They'd never get anything right, plus their reps were usually quite rude over the phone. It boggles my mind that companies can operate like this and stay in business. Some of them are even well-respected!

TOD:

I'm currently having issues with my new Mac.  It's working okay, but some of the programs I use from my old Mac won't work on the new one, and some versions of programs on the new Mac have changed so much that I have to re-learn them.

Not fun.

I sympathize. Before I bought my new Mac a lot of the websites I use frequently wouldn't work properly. If I complained to their tech or customer service departments the response was always that I had to upgrade. But sometimes you can't, as you'd be incompatible with other software. They don't seem to realize that. I think the best thing to do might be to keep the old computer to run the application software, then use the new computer to access various websites.

That's my plan with my new Windows 10 computer.  I have too many programs on my Windows XP computer that I would need to buy, or to try and find equivalent programs, that I don't think it's worth it.  I won't have my XP computer access the Internet anymore, so it'll otherwise be fine until it physically dies...at least, that's the plan.

Glad to hear MR BK's computer problems have abated.

Most of my MOST irritating problems have been with my provider....there was a time when Comcast was updating to fiber optics in the neighborhood, and you could never be sure IF or HOW LONG you would have the inner web.

Computer viruses have also been troublesome.

DR JEANNE they KNOW.....they just don't care.

We had a nice walk in a steady but not too heavy rain.  Now my clothes are all drip drying.  I layered as it was a bit cool, wearing one light summer rain jacket over another.  Once I warmed up I was able to remove the top layer and still have a jacket to keep me somewhat dry.

I am back from a fun and kind of amazing evening.  THE FANTASTICKS was sung and played very well, and some of it was nice to look at, but I felt that a lot got lost.  It's not a great venue for it -- too large, and they tried to utilize too much of the stage real estate.

It was a great evening for Mother Dolores Hart, who has clearly been enjoying the celebrations in her honor all week.  And I spent more than half an hour getting my ear talked off by Patricia Neal's daughter Tessa Dahl.

No.  I came close to adding one to my arsenal a few years back, mostly for the fun of transferring things for friends since I don't intend to rid myself of my record collection.  I think what stopped me was never having a trustworthy enough computer or sound card to want to fool around with it.

About that time I was introduced to the Zoom line of handheld digital audio recorders with both mic and line level inputs, and eventually bought one for recording rehearsals and whatnot, as well as for transferring things.  Turns out it does a beautiful job of recording high resolution WAV files direct from my turntable, tape deck, keyboard, you name it.  (It records to a multitude of WAV and MP3 standards.)

I got a usb turntable, but it didn't work.  I did find some cables that hook into a little box then into my stereo and I can use my real stereo turntable.  I used it in the past and it worked.  I really need to get back to that so I can get my dad's old records of his dixie bands on cd before his dementia gets too far along for him to really enjoy it

I actually may break down and try a USB turntable again. it would be easier than the hook up I have.  There was someone on this site who had one when I was looking at them. Maybe JRand

They're on 16th Street or thereabouts, so, at least several blocks away.

I don't know (or am having a brain fart) where FJL lives.
