Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Kritzerland at Sterling's 71, and now it is time for you to post until the seventy-one cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GUERDON!
-
good morning to all
-
TOD
Leah Remini memoir about leaving Scientology
-
I also read last week
A Thousand Cuts: The Bizarre Underground World of Collectors and Dealers Who Saved the Movies
A very interesting book and many well known and not so well known people are named including the co-director of The First Nudie Musical Mark Haggard.
I thought maybe the other co-director would be mentioned but wasn't.
-
The other co-director SHOULD have been mentioned since one of the authors of the book got MANY prints from him. I already castigated him publicly for it. Haggard got me into film collecting, but there was a time when I just happened to luck into an incredible and endless batch of MGM IB Technicolor prints and that, for a time, made me legendary in film collecting circles.

First post after

Maybe he's saving your story for a volume 2?
It could happen. :D
-
I agree with you about Cathy. She is so genuine, down-to-earth, and friendly. She is just a real joy to be around.
-
Congrats on yet ANOTHER successful Kritzerland show! And the pictures are great!
-
Well, I need to go to bed now. Good night, Tom!
And have a good day, all!

Good night, George.

Good morning, all.

TOD:
I always have too many books going at once.
In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower by Proust
Here I Stand: A Life of Martin Luther by Roland Bainton
Geniuses of the American Musical Theatre by Herbert Keyser, whom I discovered lives in San Antonio part of the time
The History of the 13 by Balzac
Moo by Jane Smiley
In the past 10 days, I finished BK's Rewind, John D. MacDonald's Down Low Tide, Ethan Mordden's Sing for Your Supper and Woody Guthrie's House of Earth.
-
TOD:
I've been reading a lot of mystery/thriller fiction lately (James Patterson, Robert Crais, etc.). They're quick reads and help me to clear my head between my own writing projects.
The last piece of non-fiction I enjoyed was a biography of George Raft, THE MAN WHO WOULD BE BOGART by Stone Wallace.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Congrats on a wonderful show--
and may there be some wonderful videos coming down the pike!
-
The book I'm in right now is Mother Dolores Hart's "The Ear of the Heart".
(Since DR John G. mentioned Proust, I'll add that I need to resume that soon. I read the first three books; i.e., through "The Guermantes Way". I love it, and I'm only embarrassed that it will have taken me YEARS to get through the entire work my first time.)
-
Congrats to BK on another successful show!
-
Don't be embarrassed, ChasSmith. This is my third time of trying to get through the damn thing. Never got this far before.
-
My ne'er-do-well great-nephew in Germany has launched a gofundme campaign to clear his debts. He cites as the cause of his debt the mother of his son. He wants 20K euros.
-
What should I launch a gofundme campaign for?
-
Good morning, all!
-
I awoke around 6:30 and thought, I'll sleep another hour. I woke around 8:45, put on the coffee, bathed, and I'm cautiously moving around. I hope to have a quiet day. We'll see.
-
Last night I took the Tizanidine as well as half of a Tylenol PM and my damned leg still bothered me.
-
I've plugged the iPad in to recharge and started the updating process. iOS 10, here I come.
-
Current reading:
Thomas Riis study of Frank Loesser's music from Yale University Press
Plays by Emlyn Williams
George by Emlyn Williams
Francis Collinson's Orchestration for the Theatre
Dance Arranging by Paul Weirick
Forever Amber by Kathleen Winsor
Caligula by Albert Camus
Bus reading: The Grass Harp by Truman Capote
-
We sure do have some power readers among us! I'm envious.
-
Congrats to MR BK & Co on another successful Kritzerland Show..it sounds kind of like the show that another bunch of people are doing at another LA theater that I read about on BookFace......
-
Right now - I do not have a book I am reading.....I do have a stack of books to START reading.
-
Monday morning greetings! Just stopping in for a quick HI and BYE before heading over to Katie's to host Current Events Club. The meeting doesn't start until 1:30, but I have to do things like make the coffee and tea and get ready for refreshment committee to arrive about 12:45.
-
TOD - I read both fiction and nonfiction, but have been concentrating on fiction lately. Some recent memorable nonfiction:
Dimestore, Lee Smith's memoir of growing up in Appalachia
Hissing Cousins, a joint biography of Eleanor Roosevelt and Alice Roosevelt Longworth
The Man He Became, James Tobin's take on FDR's polio
Right now I'm reading a novel called The Miniaturist for book group. Next up: Madison and Jefferson by Andrew Burstein and Nancy Isenberg in preparation for our visits at the end of the month to Montpelier and Monticello in Virginia.

Bruce I noticed the photo of you with Cathy on facebook and waiting until I came here to commented. I immediately noticed the tucked in shirt and your new, improved, look :)

Yesterday I finished reading "Before the Fall" by Noah Hawley which I enjoyed very much. It was also excellent timing to be reading this when we watched "Sully" as there are many similarities in that they both deal with a plane crash, the annoying press, an investigation, and a hero who does not feel like one. Aside from that, the heart of the stories are very different.
DR Ginny, I think it would make a good book group read.
-
I am currently reading "Cat's Cradle" by Kurt Vonnegut. I'm not sure what I think about it, different for sure. Has anyone read it?
-
I needed a book to read. It has been on my library wish list for a long time and it is short. I wanted a short book since my goal is to read 20 books by the end of the year.
Sometimes a short book can take longer to read than a 500 page book. I am hoping this won't be one of those times, so far it isn't.
-
I prefer fiction to non-fiction. This year, having read less than usual I have read even less non-fiction.
DEAD WAKE by Erik Larson was excellent, but then his novels read more like fiction than non-fiction.
-
Topic of the Day:
I am currently reading "Captain's Fury (https://www.amazon.com/dp/0441016553/)," book 4 in Jim Butcher's CODEX ALERA series. I have it on my Kindle. I also have the last two in the series on my Kindle: "Princeps' Fury (https://www.amazon.com/dp/0441019625/)" and "First Lord's Fury (https://www.amazon.com/dp/0441019625/)." There are only six in the series. Jim Butcher also wrote (and is still writing) the DRESDEN FILES series. I really like his writing style and his books are quick reads. He does have some pretty violent fight scenes in both his series, so there's that, but you never really lose track of what's happening. He's good about that.
-
Just before this, I slogged through "Wicked (https://www.amazon.com/dp/0061350966/)." Not that I was expecting anything like the musical (I know that the book came first), but it just wasn't an easy book to get through. I downloaded through OverDrive, "The Wicked Years (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FOPTNH2/)" (the four-book series), so that's all in one download. I don't know how soon it'll be before I read the next book in the series. ::)
-
And other recent read books include:
"Ghost Story" by Jim Butcher (book 13 of THE DRESDEN FILES)
"Cursor's Fury" by Jim Butcher (book 3 of CODEX ALERA)
"Patrick Bronstein Presents" by our very own BK
-
First post after the last post!
-
I watched M. Night Shyamalan's "The Visit" this weekend.
Great performances by the two youngsters. Strange movie, but I don't regret watching it.
-
I watched the Warner Archive Blu ray of "Silk Stockings".
Stunning!
There is some really terrific dancing in this movie.
-

I put a hold on DIMESTORE at my library.
I wish you clear weather when you are at Monticello. What I recall most about my tour there was the guide repeating over and over and over, that we were missing a beautiful view due to the fog ;D
-
I'm up, I'm up, and have been up since nine - only seven hours of sleep. And then a few irritating things to deal with.
-
Bruce I noticed the photo of you with Cathy on facebook and waiting until I came here to commented. I immediately noticed the tucked in shirt and your new, improved, look :)
Agreed! Most excellent!!
-
I've been in apartment chaos all day, since i decided it was time to think about winterizing the placer. that means moving filing cabinets, putting the accumulated summer crap and books away, and it's a project for several days. I was stupid to begin it today since Joshie is coming by at any moment to show me the rest of his KING & I scores for Act One. We want to finish this project up by Friday, since he's got Finian's Rainbow for the Irish Rep and Titanic for Signature Theatre waiting for him. He's booked through December. I am very happy for him and a but jealous that he's working and I'm doing so little.
-
Boy, it struck me during that post just how much he is indeed working.
Are these all re-orchestrations for smaller ensembles (if that isn't a gross simplification)?
-
Me, I just went out to made a small donation to the local historical society, buy some cat food and litter, and bring in the mail. Now I have to ready the trash for tomorrow morning's pickup. Those are my achievements for the past few hours. Isn't that exciting?
-
Back from a bacon and cheese omelet and an English muffin. I'll jog in a little while, but I'm really sore from pushing these last few days so I think I may just deserve a shorter jog today.
-

Will likely do that later. Met Smith briefly at the local Books and Author luncheon. Very nice. I like her work.

I am currently reading "Cat's Cradle" by Kurt Vonnegut. I'm not sure what I think about it, different for sure. Has anyone read it?
I had to read it for 10th grade English class. Don't remember a think about it.
-

Finian's Rainbow is for only four players, I believe, so it's all new. I cannot speak for Titanic.
-
Page two? Really?
-
Not the day for this.
-
Back from a two-and-a-half mile jog - that's now going to be the shorter jog, with four-and-a-half being the longest, three-and-a-half being the longer, and two-and-a-half being the normal.
-

That doesn't surprise me. It seemed like something I should read.
I had to read it for 10th grade English class. Don't remember a think about it.
I can't imagine having the book assigned in 10th grade. We were still doing drop drills, as in hide under the desk so you don't see the bomb coming ;D
-
Every once in a while we see a plane landing in Portland that we can't identify. Today we saw this one.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmStJ4lORI8
I think it is a pretty color green.
-
Good afternoon.
-
TOD: the last fiction book I read was Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The last non-fiction is a field guide of Arizona reptiles and amphibians.

Maybe it was senior year. I had that teacher for English and Humanities, but I don't remember reading novels for the latter.
-
I watched the Warner Archive Blu ray of "Silk Stockings".

Love that movie, especially the dance to Fated to Be Mated
-
Off rehearsal. I don't know if the other ASM will be there tonight or not. He wasn't able to be there last night, so we'll see. Otherwise, it's all been going fairly well, so far.
Until later.
-
I am liking season 2 of Republic of Doyle much more than season 1, which got better as it went along. there are interesting characters who came back for season 2, like Victor Garber as a ego-driven mystery writer like James Patterson.
-
Congratulat
-
Tonight we shall return to POLDARK with the first episode of season 2.
-
Did anyone watch the first episode of WESTWORLD?
-
No spoilers, Jane. Thank you.
-
Just updates on Poldark's hair.
-
Watching Chimes at Midnight again. The movie is that good. Some of the best Shakespeare I've ever seen on film. And one of the more horrifying battle scenes.
-
JB just started screeching and hollering, so I knew something was amiss around his cage. Sure enough, there was a possum checking out the cat's dish for any leftovers. Those are ugly creatures. They can't help being ugly but they are.
-
Any videos coming from last night's show, BK?
-
Hello, 6 guests!
-
What's your favorite Orson Welles' movie?
-
I'm partial to Touch of Evil and Citizen Kane, of course, but I have a soft spot for Lady from Shanghai and now Chimes at Midnight.
-
Page three? Really?
-
Just bought a new camera for the trip to Crete.
-
Now I just have to wait 28 more days.
-
Jane, did you learn any Greek words for your trip?
-
I can only remember "please," "thank you" and "wine."
-
Hey, most days, that's pretty good for me in English.
-
Just updates on Poldark's hair.
😄
-
Good evening!
-
Page 3? For real?
-
On a Monday evening?
-
We are doomed.
-
Nearing the end of this page.
-
Just one more post.
-
Page four

Goodness we have a long way to go.

And goodness has nothing to do with it.

What should I launch a gofundme campaign for?

Would anyone actually give me money to go on a trip instead of using it on a trip for themselves?
-
I doubt I would.

But maybe that's why I'm poor.
-
Today was an interesting day, weather-wise.
-
It rained this morning.
-
Then I ran my errands.
-
Then it rained again.
-
Someone gave me a box of French macarons today, though. That was nice.
The flavors were chocolate Earl Gray (combined), coconut, coffee, pistachio, lemon, raspberry and yuzu.
-
I have been good. I only ate two of them and shared those two with others.
-
Then it rained again.
I think Sarasota is headed for the same, thanks to Matthew. (The hurricane, not the former DR.)
-
Did you get any writing done today, TCB?
-
What should I launch a gofundme campaign for?
A vacation?
Would anyone actually give me money to go on a trip instead of using it on a trip for themselves?
Possibly. Some people would pay to get rid of you. On a trip, I mean.
-

Yuzu? Isn't that the little girl in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE?

Fortunately our rain was just a shower.
-
I think that will be a monsoon.

Did you get any writing done today, TCB?
Actually, I did.

Thank you, sir. That's the kind of response i was afraid of. If I were going to Saudi Arabia, folks might chip in for a one-way ticket.
-

Good. I'm glad one of us was productive. I just ate.

You've managed to get us closer to page five.

No.

I wrote for several hours, but only ended up with about five or six pages.
-
I knew where it was going, but it was harder than I thought to get there.
-
We have done some good work here, John.
-
Just one more post.

PAGE FIVE

JB just started screeching and hollering, so I knew something was amiss around his cage. Sure enough, there was a possum checking out the cat's dish for any leftovers. Those are ugly creatures. They can't help being ugly but they are.
I didn't realize you had a watch bird.
-
Jane, did you learn any Greek words for your trip?
I failed miserably at pronouncing them.
-
I can only remember "please," "thank you" and "wine."
I only said thank you and you're welcome. I can'text remember them now.
-
Jane, did you learn any Greek words for your trip?
I failed miserably at pronouncing them.
But I bet they still understood what you meant.
-
John, how long will you be in Crete?
-
I always wished the revival of She Loves Me that BK recorded had had Judy Kuhn on it instead of her replacement. Seth Rudetsky posted this video of her singing Vanilla Ice Cream today, and she acts the hell out of the song. I love the look on her face when she gets to the "Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde" part. Enjoy.

I love the song, but I will have to wait until tomorrow to listen to it.

Good night, TCB!
-
Good night, TCB.
-
Just watched the first part of the Dekalog, a Polish film/mini-series on the 10 commandments. I watched this years ago and remember loving it, but I don't remember much about it. That first part was really gripping and incredibly sad.
-
Good night, all.

What's your favorite Orson Welles' movie?
Jane Erye

My friend Tracy is a wonderful actress, but she hasn't done any theater (except for some murder mystery dinners) for probably sixteen years.
-
There have been several reasons for this, but part of it was her job.
-
She has worked for the same employer for 33 years, and finally she was ready to go back on stage in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE.
-
So suddenly her employer is doing away with her position, and she is being laid off.
-
The only job they are offering instead is working part-time doing 12-hour shifts.
-
She is going to accept that offer if it is available, and drop out of the show.
-
BTW, the lay off has nothing to do with her taking a part in the play, they just happened at the same time.
-
Anyway, I think she is making a mistake taking the job, but I need to keep my mouth shut.
-
Which we all know I always do.
-
Well, sometimes I keep my mouth shut.
-
I talked to my friend, Betzy, today.
-
She is having a lot of family problems, and asked if she could have through the end of the week to read the book.
-
Since I have started work again on the book, she can have all the time she needs.
-
Had a good rehearsal and then I had to go to a little meeting that ran long. Now I'm listening to music and relaxing.
-
She said she has really liked what she has read so far.
-
One more post.

BTW, the lay off has nothing to do with her taking a part in the play, they just happened at the same time.
I am glad you clarified that.
-

What a shame.
-
She said she has really liked what she has read so far.
Good.
-
Page six. Better than page three.
-
She said she has really liked what she has read so far.
Good.
Yes, that is encouraging.
-
Page six? Really?
-
Really? Page six?
-
Page? Really six?
-
Six? Really page?
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Perhaps I'll write some notes.
-
Off rehearsal. I don't know if the other ASM will be there tonight or not. He wasn't able to be there last night, so we'll see. Otherwise, it's all been going fairly well, so far.

The other ASM was there, tonight. The two shows rehearsed and all went really well. Tomorrow night, I still have to be there at the theater because there's a TAO board meeting.
-
Did anyone watch the first episode of WESTWORLD?
I recorded it. Hopefully, I'll get to watch it fairly soon.
-

Oh, no! That's terrible! :(

Too young.
I'm at a similar age. I have 28 years in, but I still need to work (at least) another 16 years until I'm (at least) 67 years old. I'll then have worked for the library for 44 years.
