Well, you've read the notes, the notes discovered Duning, and now it is time for you to post until the discovered cows come home.

And the word of the day is: BANAUSIC!

We're on the state retirement system. I'm on PERS 2.

I thought that was what you had said.

I slept well for the first time in some time. I remember a strange dream about my friend Ben Davis, who's currently playing Captain von Trapp in the Sound of Music tour. Something about a party in a hotel, lodge. My former friend Ron Raines was also in the dream with his wife.

Joshie just emailed me. He wants a day off to work on his other projects, so I've sent DR KevinH an email about meeting for lunch.
-
I will continue here with the mess I began yesterday, and I need to ponder the second half of the memoirs.
The first half laid out easily but the second has me stymied at the moment. I'm thinking of three parts"
1. the Good
2. The Bad
3. The Really Ugly
-
For the morning, I'm back on my cleaning-out project, with another plastic bin containing articles and whatnot to be sorted, kept, or tossed. Then we'll see what happens this afternoon.
-
DR Ginny, I understand that Ben's Sound of Music tour is in Cincinnati for two weeks. Have you and Richard thought about seeing it? If you do, go backstage and take him a box of donuts from me.
-
Yesterday, I was looking for an email and ran across the original August 2014 cover design for the ROBERTA recording. I had approved it and it was set to go when the Man from Philadelphia insisted that the color be changed. It was a complete surprise to me, and I still resent his interference without discussing it with me.
I think I still prefer the pinker version 1. Any thoughts, DRs?

Tuesday morning greetings! I was exhausted after hosting the club meeting at someone else's house and I kind of crashed last night. Today I'm off to Dayton for lunch with my grantwriter friends.

I am still shaking my head at DR TCB's story about his actress friend......
-
In addition to those mentioned in the notes, I also liked George Duning's score for Count Three and Pray - the Van Heflin, Joanne Woodward, Allison Hayes movie.
-
I am getting even more excited about the Unsung Sherman CD!

I remember that controversy, and agree with you.
But is this a brain fart, or had other colors either been used in the past, or considered for this release? Was there a green one? I could easily be conflating this with any number of things.
-
In other DR Elmore-related news, in my sorting this morning I unearthed an article I'd forgotten I had because it had never been put in the right place. It's a complete tear-out of a July 3, 1989 New Yorker piece by Ethan Mordden called "SHOW BOAT" CROSSES OVER. I have no memory of having read it (!), so that situation is about to be rectified.
DR Elmore, you probably have everything in existence on that, but if you can use a copy of this, you're totally welcome to my original (sorry I didn't keep the issue cover), or to the scan of it I'll make later today.

There were a lot of different colors used in the sheet music covers. Here are a yellow and green "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes."

I have a copy. It's got several Ethan Mordded errors, which is typical for his "I know it all" attitude; if he'd asked me about the recording at the time, I could have corrected him.
Thanks for asking, though.

All I know is how I used to explain "fair use" to the pre-service teachers I taught at Miami University, but that was 20 years ago. The key words were "spontaneity" and "brevity." If someone told me I had to become a lawyer, I'd specialize in intellectual property.

I work at the Timberland Regional Library (http://www.trl.org/) Administrative Service Center, which is the headquarters of a five-county, 27-branch library district. It's its own special taxing district, so it's not dependent on the state or any other library districts. We get our funding mostly from timber revenue and property taxes. We're on pretty solid ground, financially. :)

No, they are not small counties. Our library system is one of the geographically largest library systems in the country. There are libraries that serve more people, or have more branches, and I don't think we cover the largest area, but the service area is nearly 7,000 square miles.

There was a wonderful French Vietnamese Bakery across from the conference center and I had lunch there the past two days. Great banh mi, and today I had something called a coconut pandan mousse.

It has been a strange day in many ways.
-
I hope not in a bad way.

Among other things, I received a check for $ .05. That's right: 5 cents. It was my share of some massive AT&T overcharge.
Possible responses:
"Oh, I'm so glad! Now I can pay my bills!"
"Why bother?"
"A great big THANK YOU to class action suits!"
"AT&T should be fined for overcharging their customers."
Your choice.
-
But don't get me started on the Wells Fargo mess. THAT is an entirely different matter.

I'd missed your comment on the previous page. I had to turn the volume up to hear her, then turn it WAAAYYYY down when the music came on.
I do like using coconut milk and have been thinking about experimenting with it a bit, maybe for an ice cream-like dessert. (Trader Joe's sells a great coconut milk non-dairy "ice cream".) There was a great little seafood restaurant near my office in San Diego that made a dessert using some sort of berries in a creamy base. I loved it. Something like that, only using coconut milk. I should probably play the video again for more ideas.

I had an account with BofA while moving across country. Much as I HATE BofA it worked well during the move. As soon as I arrived in California their idiocy resumed. I closed my account and went to Wells Fargo. Big mistake. Every time I went into the bank they'd high-pressure me to open another account. I hate that! After two months I closed that account and went to US Bank, where I still reside. They're not perfect, but they're hugely better than the other two.
I was not at all surprised that WF has been opening unauthorized accounts. It's consistent with the behavior I experienced from them. I don't know for certain that they didn't open an extra one for me.
-
Jane, I don't expect it to be cleared up anytime soon. The State of California has been using WF to underwrite the state's municipal bonds. They've now curtailed that, which will cost WF millions of dollars a year in lost fees. I suspect more will come out over the coming months.

Never buy "light" coconut milk. All they do is mix half water and half coconut milk, but charge you the same price. If you want light coconut milk, make your own.

I don't think he will. He may be as far to the right (if not more) as Trump, but he doesn't seem as off-balance as Trump. :-\

I set my DVR to record the debate. I have a TAO board meeting to go to tonight. Fortunately, we don't have rehearsal in addition to the board meeting.

Love the photo from NYC.

Had to stop reading the book "Geniuses of the American Musical Theatre." There were far too many errors, and I'm at an age where I'd forget the truth and remember the errors that he was spouting. One of the weirder ones was that Yip Harburg worked on an unproduced film musical of Huck Finn with Burton Lane. That was Alan Jay Lerner. After Finian's Rainbow, Lane swore he'd never work with Harburg again, and he didn't. That much I know.
-
And now, I'm off to the TAO board meeting.
Be back later.

And we're off to a new page.

This adaptation of Master Builder is very disturbing. And Wallace Shawn is great.

I have a weird cough, too. It comes out of the blue and is very difficult to contain.

Today was a good day.
-
I started to take myself out to lunch, but the storm looked like it was rolling in, so I made a quick stop at the grocery store and then came right home.
-
Yesterday, I kept thinking there was something I needed at the store, but I couldn't figure it out. This morning I realized what it was. I was totally out of coffee.
Aargh!

Hello, Fred!
-
Tomorrow's old actor's lunch is at an Italian restaurant that I have never visited.
-
A good bowl of pasta on a rainy fall day sounds terrific.
-
Tonight I settled for soup over rice.
-
It was either that or a can of chili.
-
I guess I need to do some serious grocery shopping.
-
Perhaps, a nice crock pot beef stew sounds good for this weekend.
-
Actually, it sounds pretty good right now.
-
Nearing the end of this page.
-
Just one more post.

Six

Page six, with two hours to go.

This adaptation of Master Builder is very disturbing. And Wallace Shawn is great.
As much as we like Wallace Shawn I am not sure I want to watch "disturbing".
-
I need to change computers.

Yesterday, I kept thinking there was something I needed at the store, but I couldn't figure it out. This morning I realized what it was. I was totally out of coffee.
Aargh!
We had to make a special trip to buy Keith coffee. He uses whole beans from an Italian roaster. A little Italian restaurant near us sells them.
-
I started to take myself out to lunch, but the storm looked like it was rolling in, so I made a quick stop at the grocery store and then came right home.
It started raining when I was out running errands at my lunch time. Of course, it wasn't raining when I got to work or when I left to go to lunch, so I had no jacket or umbrella with me. I survived.
;)

I'm home after the board meeting and getting something to eat. I recorded and was going to watch some of the vice presidential debate, but my TV was set to TCM when I turned it on and "Thoroughly Modern Millie" just started.
-
I don't think that I've ever seen it on a hi-def TV, so I'm watching (and recording) it!
-
I guess I need to do some serious grocery shopping.
Do you have "Senior Wednesday" there? My DH is always excited to go grocery shopping on Senior Wednesday and save ten percent.
-
I think Fred Meyer, our Kroegers' market, has Senior Tuesday.
-
We have slowed to a crawl.
-
We have crawled to a slow.
-
We have crawled to a slow.
Would you like a sloe gin fizz with that slow crawl?
-
;)
-
I'd rather Strip and Go Naked

Wonderful recording session and dinner beforehand, notes are written, photos and a video posted, and now locking this thread.
