Well, you've read the notes, the notes had electricity and a buzz, and now it is time for you to post until the electric cows come home - they'll be home as soon as they finish doing the electric boogaloo.
-
And the word of the day is: PROPINE!
-
Hello.
-
It is quiet here.
-
I am going back to sleep.

'night

First post after DR Jane and BK!
-
T.O.D.
My favorite vampire-themed book is INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE. Most people I know prefer the later books in the Ann Rice series, such as THE VAMPIRE LESTAT. But for me, the first book is the masterpiece, and the books go downhill after that.
My favorite vampire movie is the Frank Langella version of DRACULA. I find the film to be downright sensual, maybe even sexy.
-
TOD: I haven't seen it in a long time, but was a real fan of LOVE AT FIRST BITE. It made me laugh a lot.
I really enjoyed DARK SHADOWS, if that counts for the TOD.
-
The Interview With A Vampire and The Vampire Lestat were great, the series took a downturn after that
-
Oh TCB already said that.
-
Well I agree
-
I also agree with FJL
-
The book Salems Lot really terrified me when I read it way back when. The movie did not. Perhaps I should read the book again
-
I also remember liking The Lost Boys... I think that was the name, with a young Keifer Sutherland....
-
Well it's that time again, hi ho hi ho....
-
Good morning, all!
-
I was feeling sickly last night, so I turned off the lights around 8:30 and slept until 7:30 this morning. I feel fine, and I believe I will shortly go to my HMO for my flu shot.
-
Joshie is in Sunday in the Park With George rehearsal all day, so I will work at home on a couple of things. I have the remainder of G&D Act Two to be edited, and that will take most of the week.
-
I need coffee!

TOD (2):
HORROR OF DRACULA w/Christopher Lee
Truthfully, I' m not a big vampire film buff, but I've always enjoyed this first Dracula movie from Hammer...and Christopher Lee was a publicity client.
-
Good morning, all.
-
The only dream I can remember, that I kept falling back into while starting to wake up this morning, concerned two small towns in western Pennsylvania, one south of Pittsburgh and one north of there that I was just learning about, each of which had something to do with --- what? I can't remember the damned MacGuffin.
-
This evening I have a meeting at a Panera Bread with the director of a musical we'll be doing a year from now. I haven't been to a Panera in quite a long time, but I found the one near here very enjoyable when I was in there several times a few years back. It's a comfortable enough place to sit and talk or do whatever you're doing, and the coffee and foodstuffs I've had have always been tasty.
-
At some point today I have to get outside and blow some leaves from Point A to Point B. The early yellow ones that have started coming down have already covered the yard and the driveway so that it looks like late fall out there, which it absolutely isn't. It's only a li'l preview. Most of the leaves here are still on the trees, and still green. But this first little mess is already a big mess and must be dealt with or I won't even have a hope of catching up with it later.
-
TOD:
I never read or saw SALEM'S LOT, so I'll eventually have to get that Blu-ray to see what the fuss has been about all these years. I didn't even know James Mason was in it!
I'm also guilty of not having given the Anne Rice stuff a chance, and I suppose I really should. The first book (or two) would probably be great listening material for a road trip.
I'll happily watch most of the classic vampire films, but I really enjoy some of the more offbeat stuff like the two Paul Landres films, THE VAMPIRE (1957) and THE RETURN OF DRACULA (1958), both of which take place in 1950s California.
And for modern day stuff, I really liked the first two seasons of TRUE BLOOD, and I unfortunately let myself fall away from it during the third season when I thought it was going off the rails. I've been told I should have stuck with it because once past the part I wasn't liking so much, it still succeeds, so I might someday go back and give it another try.
-
Not an Ann Rice fan and found Interview With A Vampire an ordeal I could not finish. For me, best vampire novel ever remains Dracula, although there are some great short stories, "For the Blood is the Life" and "Carmilla."
I think the best film/video adaptation of Dracula is the BBC version, Count Dracula, with Louis Jourdan, which is quite faithful to the novel, but I liked several of the Hammer films, particularly The Brides of Dracula with the late great Martita Hunt as the vampire's mother.
-
Would have loved seeing/hearing that Sunday in the Park With George, which was never going to happen at those benefit prices.
DR Elmore, will you be there for it? Please give us a report!

I'll have to see that Jourdan one. And of course -- the original Bram Stoker novel! A wonderful book, which I should reread.
DR Elmore reminds me of the very enjoyable and gorgeously filmed Brides of Dracula. Yes, the Hammer vampire films are very nice, much to enjoy there. But the Universals are, too. It just depends on which mood I'm in. Dracula's Daughter is also a fun must-see.

No. i am not seeing it. This is not an event from the Encores! people. It's a Jeanine Tesori project.

!! 2 !!
-
I have never seen the Langella film, which must make me one of the few people who can say that. At this point I've just been waiting for there to be a good release of it on home video.
-
I just remembered that I have to stay home to wait for the delivery of my Citibank info to reset my PIN for my debit card. I am currently unable to use it or access my account online. Damn!!

I saw the Langella film in the first summer i was iving in Manhattan. It was at the Ziegfeld, I think. I did not like it.

When I hear the name Jeanine Tesori - I usually run the other way.
-
Comcast has buried is transmission wires and is using optical cable - this happened about eight years ago....but we also have electric and telephone wires all over the place.....
Speaking of which - across the street trees and bushes are being torn down and out and put through the shredder. It is NOT a quiet process.
-
I am delaying shopping one more day....I am feeling much better - but still a bit slow.

Good morning.

We had a lovely day in the aspen leaves yesterday. We also rode the ski lift to almost the top of the highest mountain in Arizona. We were at about 12,000 feet.

If you're talking about her personally, I've found her to be quite wonderful and when asked a good advisor, a person you can go to to hear a direct and rational perspective. (This dates as far back to the BMI workshop when she was Skip's student there and she would opine on a song being presented.)
If you mean her music, I guess tastes differ, but her work is so different depending on the project - it seems to be so well-tied to the mood of the project; for example, even with the show's dramaturgical issues that annoy some people, i know i can always rely on her songs with Dick Scanlan in Thoroughly Modern Millie to give me a feeling of joy and fun. Likewise, her work with Brian Crawley in Violet.
Listening to Caroline or Change, i admit, depresses me about society, but I think it does that in a way that she and Tony Kushner intended for it to do.
-
I must sheepishly confess to having enjoyed the musical of Shrek, which I know it's not fashionable to have liked. I thought the songwriting really elevated that material.
-
TOD: the original "Dracula' with Bela Lugosi is hard to beat for mood and for some great lines.

Good morning, all.

TOD:
I'm in Fred's camp. I grew up on Dark Shadows (well, grades 2-4) and there's never been another vampire like Jonathan Frid's Barnabus Collins.
And I found Love at First Bite great fun.

Tuesday morning greetings! Yesterday was quite fun, but very tiring. In the morning I drove about 40 miles round-trip to visit with my friend Anne, in the afternoon I drove 50 miles round-trip for the Miami University presidential inauguration, and didn't get home until almost 8pm. Crashed about 10:30 and slept for a solid 10 hours. Today I get to be home until about 6, when I'm going to this month's oral history taping for the Miami-Middletown 50th anniversary. Tonight's topic: Dave Finkelman Auditorium.
-
My Fed Ex arrived, I have spoken to Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, and I think I will heads out for my flu shot. I hope the info I got from my HMO is correct and that I can walk right in.
-

We went to the Snowbowl and went up Mt. Humphrey.
-
It took me one hour to catch a bus, get the flu shot, and take another bus home. I'm feeling lucky!

While I found "Salem's Lot" mostly palatable as a TV mini-series, it had only one pure moment of dread for me: The scene in which one of the Glick boys was floating at the window and tapping on it begging his brother to let him in. That was the end of the Glick line, I fear.
The book is a different matter. I picked it up in a Stars and Strips Bookstore in Naples, Italy, back in the mid-1970s. Nowhere on the cover did it mention vampires. I knew King was a "horror" writer and had written "Carrie", so I was curious and needed a weekend's read. By the time I realized it was a damned vampire book I was hooked. This book gave me a nightmare one night. I woke up and went to the bathroom to check my neck. The sun wasn't up yet, and I was pretty sure I had just dreamed it, but needed to get some sunlight just to be sure. Sigh.
TOD: Favorite vampire-themed stuff -- the entire "Vampire Lestat" series by Ann Rice. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" TV series. "Angel" TV series. Also, Aaron Spelling's "Kindred: The Embraced" was an interesting take on vampires in San Francisco. Didn't last long. Star of the show died in a motorcycle accident just a few months after the show's cancellation.

DR Elmore, I just ordered tickets for us to celebrate Richard's birthday at Wright State University's Festival Playhouse seeing NO, NO, NANETTE. He's taking ukulele lessons now from Jim McCutcheon, who has been coaching the cast for "I Want to Be Happy."

That sounds like fun.

I don't find Tesori's music all that memorable. Of her scores, I think I like Fun Home best.
-
I'm up, I'm up - only got about six hours of sleep, if that - got up just before ten, picked up the booklets for signing, then got the seating chart for The Brain event to proof, did so, and ticket sales are now live and I want to know which dear readers are coming in for this wonderful concert and the answer better not be zero, baby, or there will be hell toupee. When we did the show, we had at least six or seven dear reader attendees.

I enjoyed that article. But I thinkSweet Thursday is less melodic. In fact, I really like So Far, Money Isn't Everything, Allegro and The Gentlemen Is a Dope.

DR Ginny, are you going to tonight's MUM theatre event?
-
Jane, have you ever been to Dmitriou's Jazz Alley in Seattle? I'm thinking about going to see Leslie Odom, Jr. (http://www.jazzalley.com/www-home/artist.jsp?shownum=2738) next month! :D
-
Leslie Odum Jr was at DePauw University for a lecture last month.....all of the students enjoyed meeting and hearing what he had to say....he also sang. He met and talked with the cast of COMPANY.....seems to be a nice man.
He did not fill the auditorium.......many from the community attended....but the students stayed away in droves.
-
DR FJL I can only speak of Tesori in terms of her work.....personally I can have no opinion.
I do not understand how someone can write a song or music for a musical set in the 1920's and NOT ONE OF THEM reflects the jazzy uptempo joy of the time.....
-
DR Ginny, are you going to tonight's MUM theatre event?
Yes! I've attended all the videotaping sessions so far. The first two, I sat in the peanut gallery and last month, when it was about the library, I was on camera, up front. Tonight, the up-front people are Les Landen, Mike McVey, and Jeff Sams and I plan to be part of the on-camera back-up group.

Hello, everyone.
Hello, Jeanne!

Glad to hear that JRand is on the mend. I'm pleased the cough syrup helped you. And, yes, it's Boiron Chestal cough syrup. (Sorry I missed some of the name.)

Good evening!

Looking forward to DR elmore's big announcement!

Booklets are signed and Richard and I had a nice visit. And discussed a potential volume two of Unsung Sherman Brothers.

Good news about the Moonshine & Mistletoe recording.
And awaiting The Big Announcement!

Finally making some food - Wacky Noodles (only two cups' worth) and sautéed chicken.

Hi, Ron. I enjoyed your story about having to read your neck for a vampire bite. That got quite a chuckle from me.
-
I'm not a fan of vampires. That said, I really enjoy THE RIVERS OF LONDON series, which involves all manner of strange creatures. I've never once checked my neck. Is that a good sign?

I didn't sleep well last night, then woke up to plumbing problems. The toilet, which has been a bit wonky for several months, decided to call it quits. I really loathe the plumber they use here, but as it happens he wasn't available, so a Roto-Rooter guy came a little while ago. After checking the toilet out, he said he had to leave. I thought he was going to his truck. That was maybe 45 minutes ago. Hum...

I'm not Jane, but I've been there a couple times. Don't recall who I saw. I used to spend quite a bit of time in Seattle on business.
-
The plumber has returned. I am hearing good sounds.
-
We like it when our toilets flush. :)
-
Speaking of toilets, we all know that this election season has been one for the books. One doesn't know whether to dread the news each morning or look forward to some entertainment. I was surprised, however, to learn about the Big Flap over D(ear)C(candidate)T(rump's)D(ear)S(pouse) Melania's wardrobe choices. It seems she attended the last debate wearing a fuchsia-colored "pussy-bow" (I swear I've never heard it called that before) blouse with matching pants. Many in the twitterverse were speculating that she's really a stealth feminist and did it in solidarity with Mrs Clinton, who has become known for her monotone pants suits. Now, really!
Surely that isn't too close to politics for HHW. Commentary on those who are able to read quite a lot into wardrobe choices.

Just received from Screen Archives: Ennio Morricone's original motion picture soundtrack to the Italian theatrical version of Space: 1999 (http://www4.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm/ID/32126/SPACE-1999/). It's very different than the TV soundtrack. To paraphrase Little Shop of Horrors, it's a strange and interesting score.

According to Wikipedia:
"A pussy bow or pussycat bow is a style of neckwear often associated with women's blouses and bodices. It takes the form of a bow tied at the neck similar to those tied around the neck of kittens, cats, and the like."

Yes! Someone said it was named that because it's like the bow you tie around a kitten's neck. I've had lots of kittens, but never did tie bows on them.
And I just gave you the highlights!

Yes, she wears clothes well.
But she also wore WHITE STILETTOS in OCTOBER!! You KNOW what a fashion faux pas that is!

I never tied a bow around a kitten's neck either.
I have been googling for other names of the Gucci bow and have seen it called a bow, bow tie, and tie neck.
One more, a bow tie neck.

I wondered if she knew what it was called. We certainly didn't. The fact that she is buying Gucci, and was a model, I think she might have. I rarely read the tag on an outfit to see the description. The big question is, did Gucci set her up-lol

Yes, but some people take the "no white shoes after Labor Day" thing quite seriously.
Sometimes I think lots and lots of people are REALLY bored.

The first time I heard of that, in general and not just clothes, was when in my early 20's working at Union Bank. One of my co-workers was from Chicago and completely shocked I was wearing white. Non California natives seemed to care about this while the rest of us laughed.

The first time I heard of that, in general and not just clothes, was when in my early 20's working at Union Bank. One of my co-workers was from Chicago and completely shocked I was wearing white. Non California natives seemed to care about this while the rest of us laughed.
Exactly.

On that note, I shall say
TTFN, folks.
-
I didn't sleep well last night, then woke up to plumbing problems...
I read this wrong at first. :D Very glad it was the TOILET having the problems...
;D
-
I never tied a bow around a kitten's neck either.
I have been googling for other names of the Gucci bow and have seen it called a bow, bow tie, and tie neck.
One more, a bow tie neck.
Yes, she wears clothes well.
But she also wore WHITE STILETTOS in OCTOBER!! You KNOW what a fashion faux pas that is!

I'm wearing a pussy bow right now.

Had my chicken and wacky noodles - even though I use a measuring cup, today's portion of two cups seemed less than the other day - in fact, considerably less. I did make less chicken, though. It was good and I had a biscotti for my sweet treat. In about ninety minutes I'll do a jog.

And I'm sure it flatters your complexion.

So, the theorists are turning their attention to the relationship between Mary Poppins and Bert.

And on that note (C#), I'm leaving for the theater. The rehearsal call is a half hour later than last night, so I don't need to rush down there. :)
Be back later.

They started giving out flu shots today at work. The line wasn't long, so I got mine.
Now, four hours later, my arm is starting to get a little sore.
-
I've been listening to a series of classic plays while driving. The first was Medea with Rosemary Harris, then The Tempest. Now, it's Moliere's Imaginary Invalid, which I don't think I've read before. It's hilarious. How have I missed this play?

That is nice they do it at work.

With 20,000 employees, I think it makes sense.

Just watched A Short Film About Killing, an extended version of one of the parts in the Dekalog, obviously the one about Thou shalt not kill.
I need something cheerful after that. What a depressing movie.
-
Well, I suppose if I'm going to jog I better do it, and I HAVE to do it when I eat the damn Wacky Noodles with chicken.
-
Watching one of Billy Wilder's weirdest movies, The Emperor Waltz, with Bing Crosby, Joan Fontaine and too many pairs of lederhosen.
-
Back from a two-and-a-half mile jog - I enjoyed it, actually.
-
I am afraid I didn't pay enough attention to hurricane Matthew. Che I knew it had passed by the Vixter, Chas were you aware our favorite I95 stop, Lumberton, has been badly flooded?
-
We watched the presidential debate tonight, yes I know it was two days ago but we just watched it tonight, Vixdad decided he wanted to see it for himself

-
Another three drawers cleaner, lots thrown out, funny stuff discovered - Beanie Babies, Pez machines, Godzilla stuff.
-
Now, I'm relaxing and listening to music, the wonderful score to The Spider, one of our worst-selling CDs and one of my favorites. You can lead a horse to water, as they say.

Good evening!

I had cheesecake today.
-
Oh, I also had lunch first.
-
Yes, Jane, the 30th Anniversary Cheesecake is still available.
-
I went with the Dulce de leche cheesecake.
-
The anniversary cake just sounded too rich.
-
Okay, all of their cheesecakes are too rich.
-
But damn they are good.
-
The Cheesecake Factory really has a big menu.
-
The food was very good.
-
Tomorrow is going to be a nice sunny day.
-
But tonight it is going to be down to freezing in George's place.
-
Then we start getting a series of heavy storms over the next week.
-
Lots of heavy rain and strong winds.
-
Tomorrow I am going to buy the stuff for a beef stew.
-
I can make the stew and then hunker down from the storms.
-

I shared it, and did not overeat during the meal.

Same here, as it was today.
-
Sandy, very wisely, took over half of his home.
-
He will eat it tomorrow night after the fast is over.
-
I can make the stew and then hunker down from the storms.
If I was smart I would go to the market tomorrow. The storms will be here too.
-
It sounds like your Thursday storm will be stronger than our storm.
