Title: THE DAY OF THE LIVING LIVING
Post by: bk on October 23, 2016, 12:15:30 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were living, and now it is time for you to post until the living cows come home.

Listening to Edward Rubbra - a wonderful Brit composer, filled with gorgeous melody.  Currently up is symphony number three.  I haven't heard these in so long it's like finding an old friend.  These came out on CD in the early 90s.

I have to be at City Center early this morning to look over the King & I Overture with Joshie, who has to be at the Sunday in the Park with George dress at 12:30.  Maybe I'll run into Jake Gyllenhall while I'm there?

DR TCB, I'm sorry about the restroom situation, but I honestly hope that you will not drop out of the production.  I cannot speak for you, but I find my semi-retirement a real downer on my life.  If I could stand without strain, I might be more enthusiastic about volunteer work, but sometimes having the money for the bus adds to the difficulty of getting around.

Much as I like days at home, being forced to remain there can be a depressing situation.

Speaking of Jake Gyllenhaal, did anyone see the play he was in, CONSTELLATIONS, and thus know what the photo shown in this article was all about?

TCB - do you have enough room in your home, or is there a community room of some sort nearby,  so that they could rehearse just your scenes there just until they can get into the theatre?  or are there insurance issues about something like that?

It would be an unfortunate reason to have to drop out if something could be done about it.

Larry, for someone in semi-retirement, you seem wonderfully active and busy!!!

Compared to my life four years ago before this health issue, DR FJL, my time is wide open.  The Guys & Dolls work is dependent on the speed of my colleague Jason's getting work to me, and it's sporadic.  I go to City Center maybe twice a week to help Joshie but that's a not a paying job, just helping out a friend. The Gentlemen, Be Seated! work is finished, and all I currently have in the way of paying work besides Guys & Dolls is a couple of choral commissions.

Something's afoot that will come in the Big Announcement, and I wait.

It looks like this coming week is going to be the best time for my fall visit to beautiful SW Ohio.  I would drive over on Wednesday and return Saturday.  That's a quick one, but it needs to be a quick one this time.

Note to DR Jrand66:  I'm afraid that won't leave me the extra time for a hop over your way this trip.  I will happily build that into my next visit in the spring.

DR TCB that's a bummer about the rehearsal space.  Maybe rehearsals for your scenes could be changed and done when you get to the theatre.  As a director, I would accommodate you in that way.

We watched THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW last night.

Very disappointed.

The original movie was so much better.

 :(

Of course, the original was so much better...the original was definitive.  I wasn't as disappointed as you, mainly because I didn't really have any expectations. ;)

And now I will say....it is official.....I am at 199.8 lbs.....thinner than I have been since 2004.

I hope to lose another 6-7 pounds just to have a small leeway in case I want to eat over the holidays!

Conrats, Jrand, and Good Luck with the additional loss!

I just got back from a used book store where I found a copy of director Edward Dmytryk's autobiography for $5.95.

Dmytryk, who directed MURDER, MY SWEET, CROSSFIRE, THE CAINE MUTINY, BROKEN LANCE,THE YOUNG LIONS and many other films,  was my publicity client for several years.

Best of all, the book was signed.

That's so cool, Druxy!  Congrats!

Right now, I'm watching "Hamilton's America" from PBS.  As soon as it's over, I'm leaving to go downtown to see Lord Franzannian's Royal Olympian Spectacular Vaudeville Show (http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2606149).  It's an annual vaudeville and I know several people in the show.

Two things:

1. I am not a social worker.

2. There is not any booze in this house.

;D

I expect there is an interesting story behind this.

I was expecting pure trash in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, but this is the most deliriously campy trash in full, glorious Technicolor. And it's a musical. Just wonderful.

Well, it's time for me to head out to downtown for an evening of vaudeville entertainment.  I'm sure that it'll be a very unique and interesting and fun evening.

Until later!

That was a great find at the bookstore, Druxy. Which one was it? I love going to used books stores and don't know many in Austin.

IT'S A HELL OF A LIFE, BUT NOT A BAD LIVING

Watching Me and My Gal. Very strange scene in which Martha Eggerth is singing to Gene Kelly. Everything is in focus but her breasts. I wonder if the costume proved too revealing when screened for the censors.

More test vibes for vixmom!

I will spare you the version of "Mr. Flu Shot" to the tune of "Mr. Sandman" that's running through my head.  :)

I would actually quite enjoy that!  I was advised by a nurse at church that I should wait until next week to get my flu shot just in case any of the contrast is still in my system

Having had some disappointment reacquainting myself with Edward Rubbra (I still like his music but not nearly as much as I remembered - weird), so I was almost dreading listening to the Ikuma Dan symphonies, which I remember loving when I got the CD but have not heard it since.   I needn't have worried - this is the real deal for me - absolutely stunning music by a brilliant composer.  He also wrote many film scores, the most famous of which is for Samurai 1, 2, and 3 - I now have to actually watch those damn movies - I've had the Criterion Blu and Ray since it came out and have never even looked at a second of it.

His music at times is Mahlerian, it's pastoral, and I find it quite moving, and his orchestration is simply masterful.

I told her that they wouldn't send a woman in the cast or one of the kids in the cast to run across the street to use the restroom, so why did they think it was okay for me.

What kind of acts were in the show?

Singers, dancers, a couple of comedians, a couple of strippers (one male and a female), and several acts that defy description.
