Well, you've read the notes, the notes were Novemberish and gave thanks, and now it is time for you to post until the November cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: FELICITY!
-
First post after BK!
-
BK, I thought you were going to talk about Tammy Grimes
-
Fred, thank you for your mention of SLEUTH the other day. I hope you enjoyed it.
-
I was going to talk about Tammy Grimes, but felt it should not be in today's notes - have to ponder and didn't want to rush.
-
Good morning from Athens. Last flight coming up in a couple of hours.
-
I have a lot to catch up on.
-
Happy Day of the Dead to any who celebrate!
;)
-
Jane, in answer to your question, I'm still waiting on a copy of Hillbilly Elegy to come in at the library. Maybe when I get back home.
-
Last night, I went to my sister's house and per usual, she had no, count 'em, no trick-or-treaters. Oh, well, we played Phase 10 (I lost yet again) and ate pizza and Halloween candies that my sister had.
-
John, I sent you a little package on Friday, so you should get it fairly soon. :)
-
Well, I'm off to bed. Good night, John.
-
First post after 5 in the morning!
-
for whatever that's worth :)
-
Fred, thank you for your mention of SLEUTH the other day. I hope you enjoyed it.
Yes, I enjoyed it very much!
-
good morning to all
-
For those people who don't get any trick or treaters: Do you have your porch lights on and have a pumpkin outside/Halloween decorations? Here unless you have both then people won't go to your house. :(
-
Good morning, all!
-
I had some strange dream involving a supermarket, vegetables, and fruit.
-
This morning I am off to City Center. I have two scors to show Joshie, and I want to hear all about the King & I" weekend.
-
Good morning, all.
-
A happy day-after-Halloween and a great month of November to all!
-
Vixmom, I'm sorry to hear about that tooth. I can only imagine how depressing that would be, following the crown and all. Here's to happier tooth days ahead.
-
TOD:
I've never seen it on stage, but I love the score from MACK & MABEL.
-
I'm back for a minute!
TOD:
Favorite flop play: Teibele and Her Demon by Isaac Bashevis Singer, really magnificent
Musicals: Candide, 1956, and still the best version
The Grass Harp, brilliant score and lyrics, pathetic book
Bright Star, wonderful score and book, poor lyrics
-
Happy November.
I had one Ninja Turtle and one princess at my house.....that is all.
-
Continued vibes for MR BK.
Travel vibes for DR JOHN G across the pond.
-
TOD:
Donnybrook!
-
John, I sent you a little package on Friday, so you should get it fairly soon. :)
Look forward to it when I get back
-
Made it to Crete. The unit apparently comes with two (outdoor) cats. Nice.
-
Two!
-
Hope you're having a great time, John G!
-
TOD:
Too many musicals, including those already mentioned
Prettybelle
The Nervous Set
Do I Hear a Waltz?
Lolita, My Love
Subways Are for Sleeping
Grind
You Never Know
Very Warm for May
-
Hope you're having a great time, John G!
Thank you, Fred. Getting my bearings.
-
I voted early, so why do I have to keep seeing all these political ads on TV?
LEAVE ME ALONE!
>:(
-
Tuesday morning greetings! This is a quick Hi and BYE before I head to the library where my career began for a discussion of Anna Quindlin's Miller's Valley. I'd read it back in the spring and talked it up to this group, so I kind of have to show up...
-

My sentiments, exactly!
-
Made it to Crete. The unit apparently comes with two (outdoor) cats. Nice.
Opa, DR John G!

I'm up, I'm up - maybe six hours of sleep because I got an e-mail I saw just before going to bed and I had to think about how to respond - from one of our Kritzerlanders, first time doing one of our shows, who's not feeling up to snuff and who asked if they could cut one song. What they've done, in fact, is so overextended themselves this week I'm sure they're in panic mode. But I've bent over backwards for the singer - they couldn't do the second rehearsal tomorrow so I said they could come in an hour ahead before the stumble-through (I will not let anyone do anything without their two rehearsals and the stumble-through). I'm glad I had a night to sleep on it, because my response would not have been so fun to read had I written it last night. So, I've told the singer our deal - that our shows are highly-structured, well planned and rehearsed, and to suddenly remove a song that serves a very specific purpose in a very specific spot in the show, kind of plays havoc with everything, actually. I told her if we have to we can cut her third song, but that I didn't think we should make that decision now - I said let's see how they're feeling on Saturday.
-
From DR TCB:
Today was not the day to discuss it.
Some things are best left undiscussed.
-
Jane, in answer to your question, I'm still waiting on a copy of Hillbilly Elegy to come in at the library. Maybe when I get back home.
I asked because it automatically checked out on my eBook library account. I have decided to take a break from the current book I am reading, IN THE NAME OF THE ROSE, as HILLBILLY ELEGY is on the Goodreads list of books to vote for under BEST MEMOIR & AUTOBIOGRAPHY.
-
Has anyone read IN THE NAME OF THE ROSE? It tends to pop up on lists of books one should read. We have had the book for years and I just never got around to reading it, or I thought I hadn't read it. I remember not enjoying the prologue so I basically skipped it this time. So far what I am reading seems way too familiar.
-
I read it DR JANE - but I don't remember anything about it. I do remember the movie, though.
-
I should learn that lesson MR BK - I usually just say what I think at first.....and it's usually not the most diplomatic or productive.
-
Well, unfortunately one irritant has just presented itself and I've dealt with it as best as possible.
-
But the BIG irritant for me has been the lack of ticket sales for The Brain. That is just really bugging me right now and I'm about to get really snippy about it when I send out my next eBlast.
-
DR JohnG, enjoy your time there but do not fall in love with any religious Cretans.
-
I had a nice visit with Joshie and a lovely luncheon with Rob Berman. I'm very happy to be in for the rest of the day.
-
First post after the last one.
-
Busy morning.
A slight irritation.
I'm over it.
-
And that used to be so unlike me.
Getting over it, that is.
I used to fume over such things.
Going through some major medical issues gives one a new perspective on what is important and what is not.
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

TOD:
Mack and Mabel
Dear World

Name of the Rose by Humberto Eco? Brilliant mind, terrible character writer.
-

I think it's my lot not to fall in love. But never say never.
-
Fine meal of fried cheese, shrimp saganaki, Greek salad and moussaka with walnut cake for dessert. Oh and raki. Tummy is very happy.
-
We shared all of that.
-
I read it DR JANE - but I don't remember anything about it. I do remember the movie, though.
Thanks. It seems you preferred the movie, which doesn't surprise me.

Thank you. I needed to read this ;D

PAGE THREE DANCE!!
-
Today, I went to the dentist for my semi-annual check-up and all is well.
-
Just had to share. :)

For those people who don't get any trick or treaters: Do you have your porch lights on and have a pumpkin outside/Halloween decorations? Here unless you have both then people won't go to your house. :(
You MUST have a pumpkin and/or Halloween decorations? Here (and everywhere else I've ever lived), the indicator has always just been whether the porch light is on or not. Strange...not that there's anything wrong with that, though.
;)

TOD:
I've never seen it on stage, but I love the score from MACK & MABEL.
I also love the score to Mack & Mabel, but I have seen a local college production. It was...an interesting production. ::)

Musicals: Candide, 1956, and still the best version
The Grass Harp, brilliant score and lyrics, pathetic book
Bright Star, wonderful score and book, poor lyrics
When I was in high school, a bunch of us from my high school choir went up and saw a production of Candide at Pacific Lutheran University that a graduated former choir member was in. The only thing about the whole production that I remember is that when they took their bows, the ENTIRE chorus lined up along the front of the very wide stage in one row (and they just fit), and starting at one end, every single person took a bow, one after the other, like the Wave that they do at sporting events, but bowing one at a time. UNFORTUNATELY, when the last person took a bow, the entire line did it all again, going back across the stage to the first person that started it all! WTH?? Seriously, that's the ONLY thing that I remember about it.
-
Otherwise, just based on the recordings, I'll add The Grass Harp and Bright Star to my Topic of the Day list, too. :)

I know most of these, but as for "loving," I would only add the scores to Do I Hear a Waltz? and Grind to my list.

Well if you have your porch light and door open that would be okay. Or if you are outside giving out candy (a lot of people do this). But there are just so many people who do not give out candy. So basically you have to have your porch light on and some indication that you are giving out candy (i.e., a pumpkin or decorations).
-
I saw CANDIDE at DePauw in 1985.....and it was wonderful. My favorite part was when Pangloss said that Candide had become an actor but that his Hecuba was booed by even the most nondiscriminating of audiences.
Candide came out of a cabinet dressed in a dress/toga and wig, and all the musicians in the pit stood up and threw vegetables and fruit at him.....
-
Had a Philly Cheesesteak and no fries or onion rings. Back home, I've been doing Brain work on the computer.
-
Box office vibes for BK!!!!

Today, I went to the dentist for my semi-annual check-up and all is well.
That is always a relief.

The one direction wave sounds nice, the reverse a bit too much ;D

With all those people not giving anything out I can understand the need for decorations, or something, along with the light on.
I was surprised how many younger children would not go up hilly driveways to trick or treat. Mine always did. I even remember returning to a few house with them when their friends wouldn't do the climb. I grew up in a hilly area. Steps and long driveways never stopped us.

You and DR George saw the 1973 revision. The 1956 original is still the best. I think the last time a variant on the original Hellman libretto was seen was the 1971 Los Angeles Civic Light Opera.
-
Yes DR ELMORE it was very different from the LP I had of the original version....but it was fun.
-
After the book discussion, I came home for lunch and then accompanied Richard to an appointment with the eye doctor. This one was to verify that the double vision is GONE and that we can cancel the appointment with the Cincinnati specialist. They also did an exam that resulted in a new prescription and he ordered new lenses.

Be back later.

Have a good evening.

Yo answer your question from yesterday Jane, I think there are no more kids in my neighbor hood they have all grown up and gone to college or moved away
-
Usually we decorate the house house and the garden quite extensively , this is the first year we have not, bsut the porch light was on .... There were just no kids in the streets
-
Last year when the house was really decorated we had. 2 kids all day
-
Good evening!
-
Barely page four? Really?
-
Happy November!
-
The race to Christmas has officially started.
-
Even my Safeway store has already started the shift.
-
There was a forklift full of Christmas display materials blocking one of the aisles in the store.
-
Oh, and there was a massive display of boxes of Christmas cards.
-
Tomorrow I will swing by Rite Aid to pick up my prescriptions and to check out their surplus
Christmas candy.
-
Oh, and I am sure there will be a big sale on leftover Halloween candy.
-
Crete vibes to DR John G.
-
I can't believe how much time during each television newscast is devoted to election coverage.
-
If I had known how insane these last few weeks was going to be, I would have booked a cruise to somewhere far far away.
-
My friend Martin brought me a huge box of DVD's to look through and take what I want. After I have picked out what I want, I am supposed to pass on the remainder to another mutual friend.
-

A shame. I miss Halloween.
-
If I had known how insane these last few weeks was going to be, I would have booked a cruise to somewhere far far away.
It wouldn't have helped much ;D
-
Martin has switched over to Blu-ray, so he doesn't need any of these films.
-
There has got to be a couple hundred DVD's in this box.
-
I thought we were talking about a handful of films.
-
I started to go through the box, but decided to hold off for now.
-
I think it would be easier if I invited the mutual friend over and we could go through the box together.
-
I don't want to just randomly take a film that I may or may not really want, if it is something that she really wants.
-
I have no idea what we are supposed to do with the films neither one of us wants.
-
Does Half Price Books still buy DVD's?
-
I see there is a anniversary edition of BEN HUR that I certainly would like to own.
-
There are a lot of musicals, some Disney, and some classic films.
-
And that is just on the top layer.
-
Page Five

'night
-
We are supposed to have a break in the rain tomorrow. Hopefully I can take my scooter to the old actor's lunch.
-
Then I have an eye doctor appointment tomorrow.
-
Then I need to spend several more hours with my script.
-
Not much time to work on my book.
-
I will try to squeeze an hour or so into the morning.
-
I need to switch computers.
-
I am back!
-
Greetings, 2 Guests!
-
What is your favorite Trick or Treat candy bar?
-
Neither Guest liked the question. They both left.
-
The race to Christmas has officially started.
I went to Walmart back in early October and they already had Christmas stuff out.
-
I have no idea what we are supposed to do with the films neither one of us wants.
Post a list here. ;)
