Well, you've read the notes, the notes were hopefully happy and were written on the first day of December, and now it is time for you to post until the hopefully happy December cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: THAUMATURGY!
-
First post after BK!

From yesterday, our last rehearsal without an audience went well...at least I thought so. The director said that energy was down, but I was backstage the whole time except for my one scene, so I wasn't able to tell. Otherwise, there were no major goobers, so I think we're definitely ready for an audience. :)

Here's the details:
Kritzerland is proud to present a world premiere release of the classic Twentieth Century Fox musical:
THE GANG’S ALL HERE
Featuring The King of Swing, Benny Goodman and his Orchestra
Songs by Leo Robin and Harry Warren
Musical Direction by Alfred Newman
“It’s colossal, it’s stupendous, and one of the artiest productions ever made… It is a Technicolor dream that takes on nightmarish proportions or the aspects of a Dali drawing in motion.”
So said the New York Daily News and it kind of sums up Twentieth Century Fox’s 1943 Technicolor extravaganza, The Gang’s All Here, in a nutshell. Directed by Busby Berkeley at his most outrageous, the film starred Alice Faye, Carmen Miranda, James Ellison, Phil Baker, Benny Goodman and his Orchestra, and such stalwart character actors as Eugene Pallette, Charlotte Greenwood, and Dave Willock. The film is loaded with great musical numbers, and has there ever been a number like “The Lady in the Tutti Fruitti Hat,” with all those chorines holding huge bananas, especially considering the era in which the film was made? The film was very popular – the war was on and audiences wanted and needed respite from it and The Gang’s All Here really delivered the Technicolor escapism they craved.
The Gang’s All Here had a screenplay by Walter Bullock (Springtime in the Rockies, Greenwich Village) but it really was just an excuse to have a whole lot of great musical numbers, many of which were written by the great Harry Warren and Leo Robin. Add to that the King of Swing, Benny Goodman and his Orchestra, and numbers like “You Discover You’re in New York,” “Minnie’s in the Money,” “No Love, No Nothin’,” “A Journey to a Star” “Paducah,” the wacky final number, “The Polka Dot Polka” and others, and you have a big, bountiful cake with mounds of delectable frosting. As surreal as the whole concoction is, it is a wildly entertaining ride every step of the way.
Over the years, the film has attained camp classic status, but it’s more than just camp – it’s a crazy Technicolor fever dream filled with Berkeley’s mad genius and wonderful performances and music. To say they don’t make ‘em like this anymore would be the understatement of all time.
For this first ever legitimate CD release of The Gang’s All Here, we present all the music recorded for the film, as well as a few unused cues, all culled from materials in the Fox vaults and restored by Mike Matessino.
The Gang’s All Here is limited to 1000 copies only and is priced at $19.98, plus shipping.
ATTENTION INDIEGOGO CONTRIBUTORS: FOR THIS RELEASE – IF YOU WANT TO OPT-OUT OF RECEIVING IT YOU WILL NEED TO SEND US AN E-MAIL OPTING OUT PRIOR TO THE DATE IT SHIPS – SEND TO kritzerland@gmail.com. IF YOU WISH TO RECEIVE IT, YOU DON”T NEED TO DO ANYTHING. IF YOU ARE NOT AN INDIEGOGO CONTRIBUTOR, ORDER AS YOU NORMALLY WOULD. THANK YOU.

Today, I'm having lunch with a friend whom I haven't seen since before I started losing weight (actually, she hasn't seen me). I'm pretty sure that she doesn't even know that I've been losing weight, at all.
And my cousin and his wife came up from Oregon yesterday to visit for the weekend, and I haven't seen them since last year. I'll be surprising several people, soonly. ;)
-
And now, to bed. 8)
Have a good day, all!

TOD: Of movies I first saw this year, I loved and laughed and cried a lot (and even cringed a little, when the movie wanted us to) at TRAINWRECK, and was especially surprised by the wonderful performance by LeBron James.
-
Checked IMDB, TRAINWRECK was in 2015, but I guess it's a 2016 movie to me.

Good morning to all
-
I guessed right about the CD release!
-
It is interesting that one of the songs in the movie is the Academy Award nominated song from the previous year from Orchestra Wives called (I've Got a Gal in) Kalamazoo which Glenn Miller and his Orchestra performed
-
Good morning, all!
-
The apartment was too warm for sleep last night, so I slept poorly. I had a lot of strange dreams, including one endless ome about Joan Diener, Richard Kiley and Man of La Mancha. Also, something about a washing machine and moving out of an apartment.
-
I have a bit of work here. Around 11, I'll head to City Center to see Joshie, then have lunch with Rob Berman. I also need to hit my phtamacy for the monthly meds.
-
Good morning, all.

Are the planets misaligned again, or something?
Late yesterday afternoon the world turned into a freakin' communications nightmare, insofar as people not showing up, not calling, then me finding that the land line phone here was intermittently working and not working, which was reported and now it's working but I once again can't reach the people I need to reach...
-
Tonight is movie night in my friend's home theater - no idea what we're going to watch - I'd just as soon blow it off, but the host has done me a few very nice favors and I want to return them by loaning him some stuff, so I've got to go over anyway. It'll be fine.
-
Vixmom, sorry to hear your news of yesterday.
Two wakes, man, that's above and beyond the call of duty.
-
Phone is still out of whack, but I managed to pick up the important call and just had a good conversation with them.
Thank goodness.
For now, all is well. Probably best not to tempt the Fates on anything else this morning...
-
TOD:
HELL OR HIGH WATER
I don't go to the movies any longer, so I have to wait until films come out on DVD before I see them.
-
Thursday morning greetings! How did it get to be December already?
-
Richard and I are going to a movie theatre tonight to see the HD rebroadcast of SHE LOVES ME.
-
Thank you to DRs Vixmom and TCB for the eye vibes from last night.

And now, to bed. 8)

And soon I will see though I won't be surprised. How much have you lost now? Do you have a schedule you weigh yourself? I weigh myself almost every day. Keith used to do so occasionally and thought I did it too often. Now he understands my mindset since getting his weight under control and also weighs daily to maintain it.
-
Congrats to DR GEORGE on his millstone and new photo - you should carry that lighting around with you.
-
CD ordered.
Manchester By the Sea is getting the advertising soak around here....but I'm not sure it looks like anything I want to see.
I cannot comment on the TOD, because I don't think I have seen any 2016 movies.

DR CHAS SMITH Venus in Capricorn and Mars in Aquarius are causing most of the chaos this week, but it is starting to get better with Mercury now in Sagitarius.
-
Sagitarius! That's me!
-
And here go the last of the Thanksgiving leftovers. In one last li'l brunch.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Earlier this week, I had a CT scan. The good news is that there's no sign of the cancer recurring after almost five years. The big question mark is something the doctor noticed on my thyroid. So, I now have an appointment with my regular doctor in less than an hour.
-
Love me some Harry Warren. Looking forward to Gang's All Here.

A Journey to A Star, Would Not Be Very Far
As Long As I'm Alone With You
Romantic as we are, a journey to a star
Could start before the dawn breaks through
You’re right beside my heart
We’re just about a kiss apart
And we could make a dream come true
A moment of your love would have the feeling of
A journey to a star with you

George or Tom, where do you suggest we stay Saturday night?
-
Rob just helped me drag several tubs of Christmas decorations up from the basement. So far, the wreath is on the front door and the candles are in the Advent wreath on the piano.
-
It sounds nice Ginny. I miss having a tree and decorating for Christmas. I also enjoy not taking down the decorations and spending the holiday in pretty locations. :)
-
Thank you, DRs Ginny and Jane. I'm waiting now.
-
Waiting is difficult.
-
I'm listening to Proust while I wait.
-
I'm up, I'm up - barely. Lots of hammering this morning. There'll be another two months of that now.
-
I did Ny-Quil again last night - still took awhile to fall asleep, but I think I got close to eight hours.

Best thyroid vibes for DR John G.!

Best thyroid vibes for DR John G.!
Thank you, sir.

So, it seems I am a person with (count 'em) two fine SACD players: the Oppo BD player and the still-wonderful DV-981HD (had to refresh my memory on that) DVD player that preceded it. That one only plays the occasional DVD on the tiny bedroom TV. Now isn't that a shame? What a waste of a fine player! But it's not like I'm going to put together (read: buy) a second multi-channel system for it, as nice as that would be. I must also keep in mind that I am a person with (count 'em) four SACDs. I'll increase that number a little bit because the RCA discs seem to still be plentiful and quite cheap. But -- what BK said about the others. Sad. :)

No answers today.

Medical test vibes to John G.

Thanks -- I just dug through all the rest and found I have a total of seven RCAs! - which is totally surprising to me.
But I've been through them all now, so no more surprises are possible.
I'll post the list. Also have two Levine/Boston Symphony ones and A Chorus Line which is on a slow boat from California.
-
Sorry everyone. I forgot to mention that yesterday at court, Elijah was released on his own recognizance. There is a pre-trial hearing on the 18th, but nothing to worry about until after the first of the year.
-
RCA SACDs:
Munch - Saint-Saens Organ Sym / La Mer
Heifetz - Double Concertos Bach/Mozart/Brahms
Reiner - Pines/Fountains / La Mer
Heifetz - Beethoven/Mendelssohn Concertos
Cliburn - Rachmaninoff/Prokofiev Concertos
Monteux - Franck Symphony / Stravinsky Petrouchka
Reiner - Scheherazade / Song of the Nightingale
Any others, bring 'em on. :)
-
There's just no getting away from La Mer...
-
Or Das Meer, as some of the Cleveland folks used to refer to Szell's recording.

That's correct! In downtown Olympia.

I've lost about 65 pounds, now. But I don't have a schedule. My mantra in just about everything is, "It'll be what it'll be." :)

I know I'm still eating less (amount and calories) than I used to, so unless I somehow inexplicably start gaining, it's all good.

I am home from a lovely luncheon with Rob Berman.
The Big Announcement
Encores! is performing the 1930 Cole Porter musical The New Yorkers, which had several songs written by Jimmy Durante for Jimmy Durante to perform in the show. Only a couple of the Durante songs exist, so the rest of the score is being filled out with other Porter songs. The performance dates are March 22-26, and the show will be orchestrated by Josh Clayton and Larry Moore.

Wow! I just got another great review from WONDERFUL LIFE.
Counter to Bailey’s selfless nature is Puget Sound acting juggernaut Tom Birkeland and his money-at-all-cost portrayal of Mr. Potter. No one in the 253, 206, 360 or 425 area codes could have done better. No one. Period. Full stop.

I'm currently scoring Durante's "Hot Patata."

DR TCB: Congrats on the notice. Mr. Potter is my least favorite character in the story because he's an old meanie and, to my knowledge, never gives the money back.
-
Congrats to elmore!

Back from a cup of chicken soup (really trying to fight this lingering thing, which I think is mostly due to not enough sleep), and some not so good chicken tenders, which are just a crap shoot at Jerry's.
-
ChasSmith, I think the RCAs I'll have duplicates of don't duplicate yours so I'll let you know. I, too, have A Chorus Line winging its way to me.
-
Thus far, The Gang's All Here is getting more orders than Sun Valley Serenade/Orchestra Wives. Of course, that was more money so maybe that's why, but I think this is also doing better than Stormy Weather. I did post on the Benny Goodman Facebook page, so that always helps, but it would be great if these sales kept on coming in strongly - very helpful.

DR TCB is the best in four Area Codes - a high recommendation indeed. Congrats!

Sami's home throwing up, so she's missing her rehearsal, which is not good so she'll have to come early on Saturday as she was not prepared on Monday and I need my time to work with her on the interpretation of the song.

Lysol kills fleas? I had no idea. Watch Precious carefully that none of the treatments make her ill. She is probably ok but it is better to be careful. I'm glad you didn't get any Hartz products. When we were first married we almost lost a cat due to a reaction to a Hartz product. I still read about pets getting seriously ill from this brand.

The book I am currently reading, "Before the Wind" by Jim Lynch, takes place in Olympia & Seattle. Most of the book takes place at the docs or in the water so that doesn't help me.

George or Tom, where do you suggest we stay Saturday night?
I personally don't know, but I found this from Trip Advisor:
https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g58653-Olympia_Washington-Hotels.html
And this from Expedia:
https://www.expedia.com/Olympia-Hotels.d6054472.Travel-Guide-Hotels
Hope this helps!
Thanks George. Is there an area you think is nice, or one that we should avoid?
I don't know of any place/area to avoid. I think if you'll be fine...I hope. :)

Topic of the Day:
Café Society
Deadpool
Doctor Strange
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Finding Dory
Florence Foster Jenkins
Ghostbusters
Hail, Caesar!
Star Trek Beyond
I'm sure that I've seen more than these, but these are what I can remember. I certainly liked all of these.
Of course, I'm REALLY looking forward to The Arrival and Rogue One!
-
I think we have always been Fashion Forward here at HHW.
Feel better vibes for Sami.
DR JANE - I'm not sure that Lysol kills fleas, but it can't be healthy for them! There were very few fleas on Precious, and the doctor thought there weren't very many around. She was just very sleepy from her two shots and her pill, so she slept very well....for the last couple of days....and slept almost through the night Tuesday and Wednesday. That was good for me, too!
-
Jack, do you use those fleat/tick ointments that can be applied to the nape of a cat's or dog's neck? I found them super-effective back when I had cats.
-
Sami's home throwing up, so she's missing her rehearsal, which is not good so she'll have to come early on Saturday as she was not prepared on Monday and I need my time to work with her on the interpretation of the song.
~~~Feel Better Vibes for Sami!~~~
-
Apparently it was something she ate - she's coming in about an hour.
-
Great to know Sami is feeling better!
-
Well, I must be off. I'm going to my sister's because my cousin and his wife are up visiting from Coquille, Oregon. I'll visit for a while then head to the theater. Even though my call time isn't until 7:25 because I'm not in the first act at all (except to help with one scene change half-way through), I have the till and concessions for (hopefully) tonight's preview audience, and all of that should be there and set up before the door opens, so I'll drop that off at the theater before I go to my sister's.
Be back later.
Using it on the dogs we were lucky and never needed it for the cats, except during a flea epidemic that year the cat almost died. That was long before we had dogs.
Don't work her too hard.
It sounds like you got them in time.
Back, from watching a few various and sundry things, and then (we should have done this first) watching the first fifteen minutes or so of LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME, one of the most stunning CinemaScope transfers I've seen yet. It's incredible. I'm bleeding money these couple of months but am ordering my copy right now.
-
Back to A Place to Call Home. I hope to finish the first disc tonight.
-
I am home from a lovely luncheon with Rob Berman.
The Big Announcement
Encores! is performing the 1930 Cole Porter musical The New Yorkers, which had several songs written by Jimmy Durante for Jimmy Durante to perform in the show. Only a couple of the Durante songs exist, so the rest of the score is being filled out with other Porter songs. The performance dates are March 22-26, and the show will be orchestrated by Josh Clayton and Larry Moore.
And this is BIG!!! Congratulations Elmore!!! I am so pleased for you
Rehearsal is done.
Wow! I just got another great review from WONDERFUL LIFE.
Counter to Bailey’s selfless nature is Puget Sound acting juggernaut Tom Birkeland and his money-at-all-cost portrayal of Mr. Potter. No one in the 253, 206, 360 or 425 area codes could have done better. No one. Period. Full stop.
Excellent!!! Sure the is no chance of a geltoob ?
Done is rehearsal.
The current episode was very good.
Page five? Really?
Six!
I have, for some unknown reason, started to watch the new Captain America: Civil War movie. I'm 10 minutes in and am ready to watch something else. These movies just aren't fun anymore.
They don't have to be campy, like the old Batman series, but the Tim Burton Batman movies at least had a warped sense of humor that I miss.
Hello, 1 guest.
-
Thinking about a snack. Funny Amoeba story - I had the helper go back with the same stuff she took there two weeks ago - we'd sold some of that here but added other stuff to it. Two weeks ago they offered her just a little over $100 cash (more in credit) - today it was $300 (more in credit) - it just depends on who you get. I'm really glad I told her to walk away two weeks ago. So that was a nice bit of cash to get and it basically paid for the new computer we had to buy.
What is your favorite superhero movie?
-
Good night, all.
Page six? Really?
Went to Gelson's and got a tiny bit of seafood salad and am eating that now whilst listening to more William Alwyn
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
I gotta tell you.
I should return to Olympia in my book. Instead I was looking at pretty photos of it 😀
Well, our final rehearsal/one and only $5 preview went well. We had seven people in the audience, and that's NOT including the house manager and the director. We've had fewer at past previews, but we've also had more. Anyway, they all enjoyed it. :)
Good evening!
That's pretty cool, BK!
Nice. Your 2/3 is probably more than the entire run for some TAO shows. ::)
;)
-
I wish I could! My cousin and his wife are visiting and Saturday is the only time to spend more than an hour with them. They came up yesterday and are leaving Sunday morning.
-
Jane, since you re seeing George's show on Saturday night and probably staying overnight in Olympia, it would be silly for you to journey north just to have lunch.
Perhaps we could meet at Hawk's Prairie (where we met up last time)?
-
Health vibes to DR John!
Feel better vibes for all who needs them.
