Well, you've read the notes, the notes were winding down, and now it is time for you to post until the winding down cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BEHOOF!
-
First post after BK!
-
Second post after BK!

T.O.D.
The high points were probably the artistic achievements. On stage, both SECOND SAMUEL and IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE were positive experiences. WRECKS was a great time that I would love to repeat in a new venue. And working on my first novel has been a very joyful adventure.
The low point of the year was undoubtedly my great nephew's auto accident and the continued fallout from that tragedy.
-
Of course, the other high point of the year is coming here to H.H.W. on a daily basis and sharing the joys and experiences with all of my friends. Thank you, BK!
-
Good morning to all
-
My high point is yet to come. Hopefully it will happen this coming Sunday.
-
Good morning, all.
-
TOD:
A few highlights of the year would be the trip to Crete, the month spent with Mom and Dad, and getting through the first half of Proust, which had been a resolution of mine for several New Years past.
-
im trying hard not to think of low points too often. I end up with too much hate.
Let's say losing my dear friend, Glenn, and then having his wife, Mickey, move out of town are at the top. My Dad's health scare. A sense of aimlessness.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Just spent an hour shovel-scraping an inch of slush to make a path down the driveway. We're very very lucky we got barely an inch of snow last night, and that the rain this morning wasn't a freezing one. Very lucky indeed. The final bit of luck will be the temperature reaching 45 or 46 like they say it will, and nature taking care of the rest.
-
Coffee!
-
I never knew a year with higher highs and lower lows. I got through it okay, personally, could have done better in some respects. I need to move on from it, and vow to focus my concentration on simply making 2017 the best it can be for me and for those around me.
-
TOD:
Highlights:
1. Hired to film an on-camera interview for the UK Blu-Ray of THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES (Basil Rathbone). Unfortunately the disc won't play on USA machines.
2. Added 2 more plays to THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS Collection: ROBINSON & RAFT and THE LAST MONSTERS. Both are selling well.
3. Successful book signing Burbank, CA this past April for MURDER IN BABYLON.
4. Received the largest quarterly royalty check ever paid by BearManor Media for my book, MISS DINAH SHORE.
Lowlights:
1. Medical issues for wife Sandy and myself.
2. The death of longtime friends, including one today.
:(

Good morning, all!
-
I could not sleep last night. I was n bed by 10, and sometime after 2:00am i finally nodded off. At 7:00, I called and moved today physical therapy to tomorrow morning at 10.
-
My life has been so low since August 2013 that any extra money or invitation to an event is a high point. This year I've been lucky that work has picked up, although the cash flow is way to sporadic, and that I'm still here.
-
The low point? The election, its complete decline in class or honesty and the GOP's tacet encouragement of racism, zenophobia, misogyny, homophobia, and violence.
-
Tonight, the cast of Bright Star is performing at Town Hall, and I look forward to it immensely. I've been invited to the pary after, but I'm not sire I'll attend. I'll see how my leg is reacting to the Town Hall seats. Diana Montague is going to tonight's opening of Verdi's Nabucco at the Met, so I will see her later this week.
-
I've got to finish putting these Fred Waring Pennsylvanians parts for the Drinking Song back into full score today before I can begin "Where Have You Been?"
-
Monday morning greetings! Richard has 3 medical appointments this week and I have 2 - ah, old age...
-
We are gearing up for a fun weekend celebrating Mary Linda's graduation (Friday) from Miami University with her MBA. Her parents and grandparents are coming from Michigan and her sister is coming from Cleveland for the festivities.
-
DR Vixmom, thank you for the lovely birthday wish from last night!
-
TOD - I'm having trouble finding many "highs" from 2016. Mom's situation is so depressing that there's a cloud over almost everything I do. I try to distract myself with family and friends, for whom I am very grateful.
-
Correction - Richard just rescheduled Friday's medical appointment to next week because it conflicted with the graduation brunch that will be at our house that morning.
-
My high point is yet to come. Hopefully it will happen this coming Sunday.
Excellent Vibes for Sunday!
-
DR VIXMOM my sister took me to Five Below.....I liked it, but it was exhausting!!!!
-
I shall have to consider the TOD.....like so many others, I can list a lot of low points.....but I have to really think to find a high spot....I'm sure they are there.
-
I have made an appointment with the doctor this morning. I know better than to leave a cough like this unchecked. Of course I will probably not be able to cough for the doctor.
-
DR TCB - that question came to me when I watched the movie many years ago.....it didn't accomplish what he wanted it to....he didn't need it.....he couldn't return it.....I think he probably burned it in his fireplace - or put it in his safe and forgot about it.....
-
I hear that DR JANE!
-
DR TCB that also reminds me of the the audience member who asked the director what happened to Nora after the final curtain of A DOLL'S HOUSE.
The director said: "She took off her makeup and went back to the hotel."
-
Good Morning
-
TOD - definitely the highlight of my year was adding Leo to my family. However, there were quite a lot of low points, too many for one year. Let's get this year over and move on.
-
DR TCB that also reminds me of the the audience member who asked the director what happened to Nora after the final curtain of A DOLL'S HOUSE.
The director said: "She took off her makeup and went back to the hotel."
That reminds me of the (possibly apocryphal) story where an actor said "my character would never say that."
The director grabbed a script and, showing it to the actor, said "Yes, he does say that, it's right here in the script."
-
I have made an appointment with the doctor this morning. I know better than to leave a cough like this unchecked. Of course I will probably not be able to cough for the doctor.
That happens to me, also that whatever pain I went for doesn't seem to be there in the right place while sitting at the doctor's. :)

I hear that DR JANE!
;D
I really am better right now. I want the doctor to hear what sounds like bronchitis, not just the loose cough-lol

Yup, just like when you take the car to the mechanic because it is making a strange noise which suddenly has disappeared.
-
I'm up, I'm up - for some reason I didn't get to sleep until four and was hoping to sleep later but it's a hammering morning so not possible.
-
Those nice Metrocard people sent me my PIN and said my permanent card will arrive under separate cover.
And that's all the news I got.
-
No, here's something. Over on Home Theater Forum this morning, they've got teeny tiny little snowflakes falling through the blue banner at top, through images on the main page, and through the smaller blue dividers above people's posts.
https://www.hometheaterforum.com/ (give it a few seconds to begin)
Just look at what a horrible nuisance and distraction they are!!! I'm kidding, of course. But several people have complained about them and want them removed. One poor fellow had the "daylights" scared out of him till he was able to figure out what it was.
You really do have to fear for the human race sometimes.
-
LOL DR FJL.
They must have removed them DR CHAS SMITH - I don't see them now.
-
Yep, they gave in. :)
Move along, folks, nothing to see...
-
I am home from a nice lunch with one of my ROBERTA boys, Kyle Guglielmo. I hadn't seen him sicne the spring and it was nice to catch up.
-
Back from a haircut. I feel lighter.
-
Maybe I'm just dizzy
-
It wouldn't be the first time

If anyone watches, look for me in the audience!

This whole month, the Bing Picture of the Day (http://www.bing.com) has options to do the same thing and more! Click on the 2, 3, 4, 6, and/or 8 (so far)! :D

That must be a big relief to her. Congratulations!

Let's move on
-
Three!
-
DR ELMORE you know the best people! Have fun at the concert!
-
"A Doll's House Part 2" by Lucas Hnath is also about to open on Broadway, per the Times.
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/08/theater/a-dolls-house-part-2-to-open-on-broadway.html?_r=0
-
KevinH ' Many thanks for that Washington D.C. theatre report on Secret Garden.
-
DR ELMORE you know the best people! Have fun at the concert!
Including you, DR JRand66!
-
Well, my cold appears to finally be settling in for the winter. The massive doses of VitaminC dodn't stop it in its tracks, dammit. I guess I'll be wheezing through the concert tonight, and I suspected that if I feel as poorly as I do now, I'll head directly home after the performance.
-
Picked up a couple of packages. Have mostly been listening to music this day, and doing some work on the computer. And uploading music, of course.
-
I'm not sure I "get" a reunion concert for a show that closed within the past six months.
-
Have listened to four of the six Martinu symphonies - as with Sibelius, I share a birthdate with him. I remember enjoying these twenty years ago - sound is not very good and I need to give them another listen but am not bowled over certainly.
-
I also listened to an absolutely great Rachmaninov second, completely uncut and one of the longest if not THE longest versions ever recorded. I want every note of this symphony, frankly, and it's just great. The conductor is Gennadi Rozhdestvensky and it's on the Alto label and highly recommended by the likes of me. I'm going through all my versions of this, my favorite symphony of all time.
-
The Von Karajan Sibelius two-CD set arrived today and I immediately listened to the 5th (he only recorded four through seven for Deutsche Grammophon - he did all but the third, which he's never recorded, on a later EMI set). This mostly got five-star reviews on Amazon, but as always there's at least one person who calls something a travesty. The question is, who's right? Well, if the 5th is any indicator of who's right, it's the five-star reviews. First of all, the sound is absolutely stunning - every bit of it - so clear and warm and open and with all the detail you'd ever want. Secondly, everything about the performance and the playing is fantastic - it's now tied with Barbirolli for my favorite 5th of what I've heard - and the big going into the big tune is so perfect here and that was my only caveat with Barbirolli - it didn't quite emotionally do it for me, whereas this is everything I'd ever want from that moment. I'm listening to the 4th now and it's equally as good, but it's the sound that's simply blowing me away.
-
I listened to the "Also Sprach Zarathustra"/"The Planets" CD conducted by William Stenberg and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't say if it's better or worse than any other recording, because I've never heard any other recording of either piece before. But I definitely am glad I picked it, BK. :)
-
Good evening!

You're welcome, FJL! I really enjoyed it.

Thank you, DR Jane!
-
Fingers crossed another couple can be found to go see "George Takei's Allegiance" tomorrow night and we can relax worrying if I will cough or not.
-
I have a viral bronchitis, which means no antibiotics to clear it up. As much as I hate taking them it would be simpler in this case. I have an inhaler, that did not make me all shaky, cough medicine with codeine, and mucinex.
-
That scares me DR FJL.....
HA! DR ELMORE! Well played.
-
Add my congratulations to Mary Linda - that is indeed quite an accomplishment!
I always liked the name Sibelius.....
-
That scares me DR FJL.....
Which post scared you? I thought I'd decided not to post my low points of 2016. :)
Oh yes, I see - but the author of Doll's House Part 2 is really a good writer.
-
Many congrats to Mary Linda!!!
-
Highlights were the amazing amount of trips we took this year. I don't like to dwell on the negative. Another year without even the hope of grandchildren is very hard. I only said this in a weak moment because the coughing has tired me out. I need to be well by Sunday and for Keith to stay healthy.
-
Add my congratulations to Mary Linda - that is indeed quite an accomplishment!
Thank you, DR JRand!
-
Many congrats to Mary Linda!!!
Thanks, DR FJL!
-
Well, since we're so close...
-
PAGE FOUR DANCE!!
-
I am rather tired. From the doctor's office I walked to the post office, then worked my way to Fred Meyer to pick up my prescription. I filled a small shopping basket, sat at Peet's with some hot chocolate and waited for Keith to pick me up. We then walked some more after returning home. According to fitbit I walked 10 miles today
-
I watched/listened to the live streaming of "Bright Star" and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was great to see the story (abbreviated as it was). Great singers, all. Also, I looked, but I didn't see Larry in the audience.
-
And now, I'm leaving work will go shopping for something to bring to my work's annual holiday potluck! It's a big to-do with a gift exchange and morning break food-stuffs, and lunch food-stuffs.
Be back later.

It was quite an event. i think everyone in the Broadway cast showed up, and outside of one or two mike glitches, I thought it was an amazing night. I loved the show and it was great to see how smoothly it worked as a concert.
I was in Row N, with Eric Dietz who worked on the show and Rob Berman's parents who came up from Baltimore for it.
-
It was delightful! I wish I had gotten to it before.
-
Bright Star's still available for viewing on TheatreMania.com. I'm starting to watch it now.
-
It got up to 70 degrees today. I was very happy.
-
Good evening.

So many beautiful songs. I really love "Asheville."

I can't pick a favorite. They all get to me.
-
Okay, tonight it's At Last. The song had me in tears.
-
Watching that made my evening.
-
It didn't produce a lot of posts, though.
-
And it didn't produce a meatball salad with Jell-O.
-
And for the latter, I am grateful.
-
Hello, 1 guest!
-
What is your favorite holiday Jell-O salad?
-
My dance instructor likes a lime congealed salad.
-
So, i'll be making one of those before Christmas.
-
It has pecans, pineapple and cottage cheese all floating in lemon and lime gelatin.
-
It's not bad. I kinda like it.
-
Good evening!
-
Back to Le Silence de la Mer, which reminds of All the Light You Cannot See.
-
Happy Monday to one and all.
-
I'm almost through with that book, and I find that it's petered out toward the end. The writer seems to want to wrap things up too quickly.
In the beginning, he had tons of explorations of emotions. At the end, Marie Loare and her great-uncle reunite after harrowing experiences, and it merits a single sentence.
-
Good evening, Tom!
-
Hmm, favorite Jell-O salad would be a tomato aspic with shrimp. My mom used to make this every year for either Christmas or Thanksgiving (or both).
-
My sister hated it, so my mom used to also make a cranberry gelatin salad with apples. My sister loved that one, and I hated that one.
-
One post more.
-
Five
-
At least neither one had tuna fish floating it. With walnuts. And rice. And lima beans.
-
John how do you post so many posts so quickly?
-
At least neither one had tuna fish floating it. With walnuts. And rice. And lima beans.
I love lima beans!
-
And I like tuna and rice, but not in a Jell-O salad.
-
Although I might like a tuna and rice salad with olives and onion. Again, no Jell-O.
-
Today was a do-nothing day.
-
I did make it to the grocery store, but that was about it.
-
Still, I think I need a Safeway delivery before the end of the week.
-
Nicky and I took a nice nap in the recliner together.
-
But I can't get into the holiday rush of activities.
-
No shopping has been done. No cards have been sent.
-
SAFE AND EASY TRAVEL VIBES FOR DR RON!

But I can't get into the holiday rush of activities.
Ditto.

That sounds nice. :)
-
And now, I'm leaving work will go shopping for something to bring to my work's annual holiday potluck! It's a big to-do with a gift exchange and morning break food-stuffs, and lunch food-stuffs.
Be back later.
I'm home and on my old computer. I have to prepare the treasurer's report for TAO's board meeting tomorrow evening and everything is on this one.
-
After work today, I bought a large Caesar salad at Costco for tomorrow's potluck lunch, and for the morning break, I got a tray of sliced cheeses (also from Costco) and some crackers (from Fred Meyer). I didn't get the crackers at Costco because they only had huge boxes of crackers, which would be too many for the one plate of cheeses.
-
Congratulations to Mary Linda!
-
Feel better vibes to DR Jane.
-
I need to switch computers.
-
Bright Star's still available for viewing on TheatreMania.com. I'm starting to watch it now.
Shh...don't tell anyone, but I'm attempting to capture the streaming video! I have a program that can capture some (not all) streaming videos from the Internet. Right now, the process seems to be working, but I won't know until it's all done. If it works, I could burn it onto a playable DVD (even though the quality wouldn't be high-def or anything like that). :D

I'm off to bed.

I mailed a few cards and that is about it for the holidays.

Page 6.
-
Had dinner with friends - had a patty melt and a few fries. Excellent.
-
Earlier, three screeners had arrived - Arrival, Hacksaw Ridge (I think that's what it's called) and Fences. I chose Arrival - it seems there's now a sci-fi movie like this once a year. This is along the Interstellar lines with Close Encounters and other movies thrown in for good measure. It begins with that oh so fashionable narration that's completely pointless because the story is very clear once you're on its wavelength. I think it's getting good reviews, and Amy Adams is excellent in it. I haven't liked any of the director's other films but he does fine here - the music is pretty drone oriented but it works okay - then you think about the John Williams score to Close Encounters and you weep for the state of movie music.
-
Prior to dinner I watched the last two symphonies of Sibelius on Blu and Ray, both excellent. I also finished the Von Karajan performance of the fourth, which was almost as good as his fifth. Now I'm listening to the sixth - the playing, the interpretation, and the sound make this a winner.

I really want to see this. I just read the short story that the movie is based on and am wondering how different it'll be...very, I'm sure.
-
I have heard raves from friends who have seen ARRIVAL.
-
I hope it isn't like INTERSTELLAR, because I really disliked that movie.
-

The short story isn't anything like INTERSTELLAR, which I didn't love, either. It's about aliens who come to earth, not humans going out into space.

Congratulations to DR Druxy!
-
Yes, different plots but occasionally the same feel.

That is probably why it is called ARRIVAL and not DEPARTURE.😀

Well, Tom, I need to go to sleep now. The holiday party for my work is tomorrow, and since I bought a gift to exchange, I actually want to partake of the gift exchange. It ends just about when I usually get there.
Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow. :)

Good night, George. Have a good time at the office party.
-
I am listening to holiday music hoping that it will kick me over into the spirit of the season.
-
I guess I will turn in for the night.
