Well, you've read the notes, the notes continued and so did ME, and now it is time for the ME cows to come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SOCIOLECT!
-
First post after BK!
-
Good morning to all
-
Good morning, Michael!
-
And a good morning to you too
-
I think the best way to do Merrily We Roll Along is just do the songs in concert
-
The reading of my new play went well. The feedback from the audience helped. I have trimmed a few lines of dialogue here and there and deleted several appearance of a running gag that overstayed its welcome. The running time was about 85 minutes so I gather with staging it might add another 10-15 minutes to it. With a set change between acts it should bring it to under two hours.
-
Good morning, all!
-
In around 30 minutes I will head out to my podiatrist appointment. I expect traffic around Trump Tower to be dreadful, although the last tie I made the trek to 23rd Street that wasn't the case. Still, I'd rather be early than late.
-
BK, your leading man issues probably have more to do with him and his ego than the performance. I've worked with him once on a recording, which went well, and he was wonderful. After I lost my original lead, the foundation wanted me to use him again for the leading man on Roberta. I was delighted that it didn't happen when his agent turned down the recording fee because I found him a bit arrogant and rude during our discussion about the recording. He sings well. I guess he's now in LA hopng for a film-TV career.
-
DR TCB, I'm sure your back pains demoralized you yesterday, but I'm sure you gave a sterling performance. You're a trouper.
-
Good morning, all.
-
The reading of my new play went well.
Wonderful to hear that it went so well, Michael! Congratulations!
-
Michael I am very pleased the reading went well.
-
Tom, darn about your back😡
-
I am forced to use my mini iPhone since I don't know how to pair it with my tablet. I can't see all of what I am typing, very frustrating.
-
Reading the posts is even more difficult
-
Oh now DR TCB. Feel better vibes!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
It was freezing on Thursday and Friday. Then it warmed up on Saturday and Sunday (however there was snow and freezing rain). And now today it is freezing again. We can't win. The snow and freezing rain was not good. But the frigid temps are not good either.
-
And I am now home from 22nd Street and I ponder the remainder of my day.
-
Congrats to DR MICHAEL on his reading.
Back Pain BEGONE vibes for DR TCB....the show must go on!
DR VIXMOM you certainly had a busy and wonderful day yesterday! Your blessings are being counted to be sure....
-
Gingerbread vibes for DR GINNY......
-
Thanks to MR BK for the Merrily Report.....oh dear......
Yes there are lights that emit vapor.....they are annoying and unnecessary in ANY production......
-
Hmmmm.....I haven't seen any movies this year.....at the theatre, but I look forward to FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS......
There are no new television shows that I have watched past the first episode of viewing....including BULL and TIMELESS which are both wasted opportunities as far as I am concerned.....
-
Monday morning greetings! Today is my pre-op appointment with the opthalmologist who will do my cataract surgeries on December 29 and January 5. Richard and I have some Christmas shopping to do afterwards, so I'll be away until later this evening.
-
TOD:
I have not seen most of the movies that are up for Oscar yet, because they have not been released onto DVD yet. However, I did enjoy HELL OR HIGH WATER and FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS.
Looking forward to seeing SULLY this week when it hits RedBox.
On TV, I enjoyed THE PEOPLE AGAINST O.J.. Also all the Dick Wolfe CHICAGO shows.

Got another one tomorrow, too. Oy!

I'm up, I'm up - already two calls this morning. We've chosen the cover for Kay's CD - Doug did six choices - I liked two of them a whole bunch and Kay liked one of the two I liked a whole bunch and so that's done and we can announce this week.
-
Another problem with Merrily, the show itself, that I didn't mention but should have - the show's best song, Not a Day Goes By, is sung in act one by a character we've never seen before and who's been mentioned in passing about twice. That's the structure not working, because at that point we know nothing about her and yet out she comes and delivers a really emotional song (that this actress chose or was directed to belt the entire time - a choice surely, but four minutes of anger at one level from a character we've never seen before, doesn't work, at least not for me it doesn't), a song she hasn't earned. Later, there's a reprise of it when the characters are younger and we know her a bit better, but I'm not sure how you make that first version work better.
-
Beth is never really a fully realized character. Just the first wife type.
-
I remember Pauline Kael had a similarly apt comment about the movie Hair. This woman with an amazing voice shows up, tears through a devastating version of Easy to Be Hard -- and so what? Who is she? Why do I care?

Relief is the arrival of printer ink from Amazon. My inertia is over.

Whew! VERY good news!
-
Actually...I hope that that's good news. :-\
;)
-
Well, knock me over! I opened a drawer of DVDs that I've opened many times during my search and there was long lost BBC War & Peace set!
-
Actually...I hope that that's good news. :-\
;)
It is! I have work on some of the original Fred Waring band parts from the 1930 production of The New Yorkers and I have to print out new scores for the Guys & Dolls Piano-conductor score.

I cooked crickets once. They were bland. And too much work.

That was Saturday's TOD.
-
Getting caught up.

-
That's a LOT of music DR GEORGE - and DR JOHN G.
-
OMG DR ELMORE! I thought we'd never find them!
-
Speaking of buying: We'll have signed copies of Kay Cole's CD for the first 100 orders - if you want to get a jump on that, as I think they'll go quickly, you know what to do - just be sure to put the CD title in the invoice - the album is called Kay Cole - Souvenir.
-
It's 19.98 plus the four dollars shipping.
-
This has kind of been almost a completely annoying day and I'm ready for it to STOP. One damn annoyance after another - someone filed a Paypal claim because they hadn't received The Gang's All Here, which isn't, of course, slated to even ship until mid-January (it's shipping today). I sent him an e-mail and he quickly closed the claim, but it was really irritating. And on the heels of that I get a call from Paypal telling me their compliance department, whatever THAT is, can't verify my account address. Really? The same verified address that's been there since the week Paypal began? That address? I gather this has to do with these stupid algorithms that are all the damn rage - they should be flushed down the toilet because, guess what - they do not WORK. So, I had to send them something with the address and still it will take forty-eight hours for them to stop with the annoying pop-ups that now appear when I log on. Infuriating. Add to that a completely irritating and unnecessary e-mail (it's Christmas, oh retarded e-mail sender), well, be gone irritants.
-
On the other hand I picked up some packages and that always means there's new music to listen to. I was especially interested to hear this 1956 Kurt Sanderling recording of Rachmaninov symphony two - a legendary recording in mono - it's just as good as everyone said (except the two "experts" on Amazon who thought it was overrated - note to experts: You're overrated), beautifully conducted and played and if it were in stereo it would rise right to the top of the pile. The mono is good but there is a bit of distortion in the loudest bits.
-
Then I have a Leinsdorf second to hear - the LA Philharmonic circa 1960. It will have the cuts, but I like Mr. Leinsdorf.
-
And yes, listening to music does soothe the savage Bruce.
-
But it's a good thing no one has come near me today.
-
I had a bacon and cheese omelet and English muffin.
-
Good evening!
-
Glad to hear the reading went well, DR Michael!
-
Feel better vibes for DR TCB.
-
Finally something fun - La La Land screener just arrived and shall be tonight's viewing.
-
Actually, Leinsdorf conducted the piano concerto with Leonard Pennario that's the filler on the disc. Alfred Wallenstein conducted they symphony and it's pretty terrific.
-

BK, can the people who are getting CDs through the Indiegogo campaign get an autographed CD?
-
And on that note (C-natural), I'm off. I'm ushering tonight at the Community Messiah Sing-Along (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/event/community-messiah-sing-along/). Vocal scores will be sold in the lobby for anyone who doesn't already have one of their own. The audience will be sitting in their vocal sections and people can either sing or not. You can just enjoy the music. It's pretty fun.
Be back later.
-
Yes, we'll get signed copies to the Indiegogo folks - but you'll have to send me a PM about it after we announce.
-
TOD: I'm not sure I saw anything new this year. No TV shows. I know I went to the movies a couple of times but can't recall what I saw. Shows you what an impact they had on me.
-
Finally something fun - La La Land screener just arrived and shall be tonight's viewing.
OK. Officially jealous.
-
The free song this week on BWayTunes is a mashup of We Need a Little Christmas and Be a Santa. It's performed by the U.S. Air Force Band & Singing Sergeants.

Watching The Moon Is Blue. Have never seen it. Holden is wonderful, as usual.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
PAIN-BEGONE VIBES to TCB!!
Do you have some sort of stretching program? I find it quite helpful, but not 100%, of course.
-
Well, knock me over! I opened a drawer of DVDs that I've opened many times during my search and there was long lost BBC War & Peace set!
I blame the poltergeist.
To my knowledge, my apartment isn't haunted, so how do I explain all that I've mislaid?
-
I'm surprised at San Antonio's cold nights. What are your daytime highs, John G?
Our nights have been quite cold, too--low 40s-- but not as low as yours.
-
TTFN.
-

Our nights have been quite cold, too--low 40s-- but not as low as yours.
The temperature got up to 48 today. Cold tonight, but tomorrow the high is supposed to be in the 60s again.
-
Four!
-
OK, so the movie has gotten very talky and not all that successfully.
-
Good evening.
-
I have had a few very busy days. Not as busy as Vixmom, though.
-
It was 25 when I left for work this morning.
It had better warm up by the time we get there. We walked about 13 miles in the cold today and don't want to do that again
-
The high is supposed to be about 58 the day you're here with a low of 50, Jane.
-
And I believe in weathermen.
-
Well, knock me over! I opened a drawer of DVDs that I've opened many times during my search and there was long lost BBC War & Peace set!
I always find it a happy surprise and a relief when I do that.
-
Oh, wait, I think I'm supposed to believe in fairies. Isn't that the quote from Peter Pan?
-
The high is supposed to be about 58 the day you're here with a low of 50, Jane.
I can handle that.
-
It was 25 when I left for work this morning.
I read that as "I was 25 when I left for work this morning"
-
I am beyond aggravated by the selfish thoughtless disrespectful nonsense I put up with today
-
TOD This Is Us has caught my attention
-
If I went to the movies this year it was not a memorable experience
-
Back vibes for tcb
-
I knew if I was ER very quiet I'd be able to sneak that war & peace set back without being noticed

Last day of that. But still ....... Oy!

I read that as "I was 25 when I left for work this morning"
;D

We went to a nice restaurant for lunch today. Walking in, due to the decor, I asked Keith if he was sure it was a Mexican restaurant.
The guacamole was served in a small fluted crispy thick corn tortilla. It was superb, a good thing to as the chips in the bowl were rather bad.
I had a spinach enchilada, rice and beans.
The small but perfect sized Margarita was nice and the meal was excellent. DR John, I look forward to comparing the spinach enchiladas.
-
Since I barely slept last night.....
'night
-
Ten degrees.
(Sound familiar?)

It was a lonnnnnnnng day.
-
Dental vibes to John G.
-
TCB, are you feeling any better today?
-
Good evening!
-
Watched La La Land. There's one of these every single year - Whiplash, this guy's previous film, was one when that came out - the film that critics and Hollywood types just decide is the "it" film and there's no stopping it. Basically, it's very nice to look at, thankfully there's no dopey quick cutting in the numbers, and it has a certain amount of fun to it. But the story isn't much and goes on for too long, it's not "really" a musical in the classic sense - it plays at it, yes, but the final third of the film has no numbers to speak of until the final ten minutes or so. And while Mr. Gosling is game, c'mon - there are wonderful actors who can actually sing and dance - he gets by in the way Steve Martin got by in Pennies from Heaven. Emma Stone is a good actor and I enjoyed their performances, certainly.
-
TCB, are you feeling any better today?
I thought I was feeling well enough to go visit Sandy, but I am hurting pretty bad tonight.
-
It is much warmer tonight than it has been for over a week.
-
Tomorrow we have wind and rain, but Wednesday may be a mild and dry day.
-
I need to finish my Christmas shopping, but I think tomorrow I will lay low and try to feel better.
-
I didn't see any new films this year.
-
Hello, 2 Guests!
-
What do you want for Christmas?
-
I think that all of the TV shows that I have watched this year are older series. Nothing new from this season. I did try BULL, but I didn't care for it.
-
It feels strange to be done with IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE.
-
Yesterday's final show didn't provide the closure I wanted, but I will deal with it.
-
Thank you for all of the nice health vibes last night and today.
-
I suppose I should have broken those down individually, but I am just feeling up to reviewing all five pages. But I do appreciate all of the good wishes.
-
We have lost one of our guests. Apparently they didn't wish to share their Christmas wishes.
-
TCB, check your e-mail.
-
DR TCB, I'm sure your back pains demoralized you yesterday, but I'm sure you gave a sterling performance. You're a trouper.
