Good morning to all
-
Tonight I've been invited to a friends home for Chunakah dinner and gift giving
-
Tomorrow night I've been invited to another friends home Christmas dinner.
-
My dog has developed a personality change the last few months and he goes after people who come to the home. My mother who is here with me unfortunately is also one of them. A friend might be able to take him as he gets along with him. If not I might have to put him down as he is not adoptable. I've tried to train him and keep him away from other people but he has increasingly has become more agressive. He is fine and loving with me but with most other people not.
-
A happy Chunakah to all my Jewish friends
-
A Merry Christmas to all others who celebrate.
-
TOD:
Unfortunately, we will not be at BK's "do".
:(
-
Good morning, all.
-
Happy Holidays!

-
Enjoyed a bit of sleeping in this morning, which was most needed and most welcomed.
-
Big congratulations to BK for such a great string of nominations!
-
And for a surprise green envelope!
Here's what I want to know: Who suddenly bought a frickin' pallet load of THE FACULTY? :D
Oddly enough (or not), I have come across that on my shelf a few times recently and almost pulled it out to watch. I only saw it once, immediately upon buying the Blu-ray. I'm more than ready for a repeat viewing.

Last night DR Elmore said:
One of my Drama Book Shop bosses in 1980 told me whatever problems you have in your first apartment will follow you.
I never heard that, but it made me think: this wasn't my first ever apartment, but in the first apartment that was all my own, the water from the girl's bathtub above mine came through my bathroom ceiling, requiring a major repair and re-plastering.
So, fast-forward about forty years. I'm up in the attic (completely unfinished and empty, just insulation in the walls and floor and a few plywood walking paths) checking on something. It was hardly my first time up there in this house, and I should know my way around, right? Well, suddenly without thinking I take one false step .... and my left leg goes right through, into the room underneath ..... which (thankfully, for all kinds of reasons) happens to be my bathroom. Yep, right through a layer of insulation and sheetrock -- which, trust me, supports NOTHING -- and there I am, dangling from the attic right between the terlit and the shower.
-
I hope that li'l story provides some meager amusement. It's all I got!
-
DR CHAS SMITH do you remember what kind of toilet paper was in the bathroom that day?
-
Successful and fun DO vibes for MR BK & Guests.
-
Non Depression vibes for DR TCB.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Charmin back then, DR Jrand66.
-
Today all eight of my brothers & sisters (including me....well seven of us) are going to come to the house.
We have made a notebook so that each of us has printed a page of memories for our Mom....whose 85 birthday is tomorrow.
So we shall have guests throughout the day.
Tomorrow hopefully will be a quiet day. Some of us will be traveling and others of us will be enjoying a ME/US day.
-
DR vixmom, what time should people show up for the standing rib roast?
-
Congratulations Bruce!
-
Tom, I hope your wave of depression passes quickly.
DITTO!
-
DR George I shall attempt to follow your instructions once I am back home using my computer.
-
I was very pleased to see evidence of a. mini HHW meetup in Texas
It was very nice indeed. I think I shall not eat or drink today ;)
-
Jane you look very fetching in your new hat and I like how you're pose matches the picture beside you
Thank you. Keith gets the credit for posing me. The hat gets the credit for making good me feel good 😊
-
I too am feeling sad thus year....fir the first time in 40 + years there is no Christmas Eve do at my moms

Good morning, all!
-
I slept really late. But, then, I stayed up too late reading the latest Gramophone magazine.
-
The furst thing I did when I was dressed this morning was to put things back in the bathroom, U'kk tidy up the rubble from yesterday's event, listen to some holiday CDs, and work on The New Yorkers. I think today will be mostly a proofreading of scores back from the copyist.
-
So, DRs, I wish you all either a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukka, or whatever you wish! It wuld be a vleak day to not find you at BK's 24/7 partay.
-
As for the New Year, despite my big reservations, I hope that 2017 will be kind to you and those you love.
-
BK, you're on a roll with the Robbies and Royalties. Buy a lottery ticket today!
-
Christmas Eve morning greetings! Tomorrow's coffee cake is in the oven and we're listening to King's College, as we've done every December 24th since 1981 (our first married Christmas). We're going to Lima this afternoon for Fr. Richard to conduct a 4pm service.

Good morning.

TOD: Today I will be tidying up, I guess. And getting ready for tomorrow's dinner.
I will go to the Christmas Eve service tonight and then enjoy my yearly eggnog.
Tomorrow morning I will go to church. After that will be cooking. My son and daughter-in-law will be going to her aunt's in the morning and here in the evening. Wae-Ling Goldstein wants to come and help cook, since her family doesn't celebrate Christmas.
-
Michael, I am so sorry to hear about your dog. Very sad.
-
I have proofread the "Love for Sale" utility, and I can either proofread "Say It With Gin" or work on scoring the "Love For Sale" girls' trio. Hmmmmmm . . .

Back when I had my first apartment by myself after graduating from college, the neighbor above had a leak in their kitchen and the paint on my ceiling held all the water in a big, giant bubble! FORTUNATELY, it never burst and the super was able to drain it without it splashing all over my kitchen.

Fast-forward twenty-five or so years (after my previous story), a now retired co-worker told me of the time she was up in her attic looking for something and took one false step and completely FELL through her ceiling onto her living room floor! :o She got hurt, but no bones were broken, so her recovery wasn't as bad or took as long as it could have.
-
DR George I shall attempt to follow your instructions once I am back home using my computer.
Great! Good luck!
-
I've been listening to Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops play holiday selections. He is such a graceful conductor, and every tempo seems just right. Too many pops conductors today lack the grace, the elan, with only two tempi: fast and faster.
-
Vibes for DR MICHAEL....animals are mysterious creatures.
-
DR ELMORE remember the Homer & Jethro RCA Victor LP that was in Dead Stereo?

My Dad did that when I was a kid . Came right through the living room ceiling in our first house (from which we moved when I was 9)
-
Years. Later when I was in my late twenties I was a real estate agent for a time. I happened to see the house had come on the market and went for a look see
-
The owner told me a pack of lies
-
Good afternoon, all.
-
That house had been built new for my parents in 1957 and sold in 1966 and to my knowledge it changed hands at last once more before this owner took possession.
-
Good dog vibes for Michael.
-
He told me that he was the first and only owner
-
Depression begone vibes for TCB!
-
Sorry you're not up to eating today, Jane.
I think I'm going to have to learn an easy way to make huitlacoche empanadas.
-
That's rich DR VIXMOM!
-
The patch on the ceiling was clearly visible where my dad had come through , more than 20 years earlier. I pointed it out and asked if there had been a water leak
-
I have finished up my last-minute shopping and baking.
It's almost time for a nap.
-
He explained that there used to be a staircase to the attic but he closed it off.
-
Elmore, have you heard Frank DeVol's Christmas album? I love it for the same reason you mention Fiedler's. Here's a link to the first side.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNF738xeVX8
-
The owner told me a pack of lies
What happens to liars on Christmas?
-
Also for some inexplicable reason he had shingled the kitchen wall (the interior wall that was the other side of the kivingroom wall) with outdoor shingles
-
Listening to A Hollywood Christmas. Good stuff.
-
It looked odd and I asked about the decor, his explanation was that th kitchen had nit existed originally but that he added it on
-
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Holidays, all!
-
nap time.
-
He also proudly showed me the laundry room my father built and took credit for the job well done
-
I have never decided if it was kindness or cowardice that prevented me correcting his tales with the truth
-
Goodness. I haven't thought of that in about 30 years! It's amazing what memories a tale of DR Chas can dredge up!
-
Safe driving vibes for DR GINNY and DH RICHARD.

Last night DR Elmore said:

My fist ever apartment was a basement apartment. It flooded when it rained too hard.
You all know the rest....
-
I love that story DR VIXMOM......
-
DR vixmom, what time should people show up for the standing rib roast?
Between 3:30 and four. But I only bought a 5.76 lb bone in rib roast for the expected four diners. So first come first served!
-
Here is some church humor for Page Five:
A woman got up and realized she was late for church. She hurriedly dressed and drove quickly to the service. As she was going up the steps, she tripped and fell.
A man was coming down the steps and helped her up.
She asked: "Is Mass out yet?"
And the man replied: "No. But your hat's on crooked." :D

-
It was nice DR VIXMOM....I put a photo album on BookFace if anyone wants to take a looky loo.
-
Michael I am sorry sorry to hear about your pet problems Vibes he changes back
-
DR JohnG, I liked the DeVol recording so much that I went to Amazon and ordered it! Thank you.
-
I'm up, I'm up - over ten hours of sleep - very necessary. The sun is out so I'll definitely jog in about thirty minutes, then start the spaghetti sauce.

Excellent! I'm sure that will go over big at the Chanukkah candle lighting!
-
Skip liked it, too!
-
Well, I'm off to run some errands, then to my parents' house for the family's Christmas Eve celebrations.
Have a good day, all!
-
That just reinforces my view of your good taste DR FJL - and SKIP's, too.
-
Excellent, DR Jrand66.
-
Fiedler was the gold standard of pops conductors.
-
I used to love his Nutcracker recording, but it's been years and I should listen to it again now. As I recall, it wasn't the complete ballet but it included way more material than the standard Suite.
His "New World" Symphony recording has been highly lauded as well.
-
And of course there's his Gershwin!

RCA has never released the complete Nutcracker excerpts LP onto CD: they've released selections, but the snow scene of Act One is still in limbo, and it's a fantastic recording, makes you wish he'd recorded the complete ballet.
-
I am thinking of hooking up my good turntable and listening to some records tonight.

Exactly! And that precisely bears out my memories of it.
-
Well, I'm up to some slicing and dicing of my own right now.
This is for sausage and peppers. One of several all-day Christmas Day snacks that's become sort of a tradition around here.
We don't do a formal Christmas dinner, just enjoy some good treats throughout the day.
-
Ormandy also did a nice recording of Nutcracker excerpts.
-
Oh, I don't know that Ormandy one. Thanks for the heads up on it, DR Elmore.
-
For the complete ballet, my go-to recording over the years has tended to be the Ansermet -- which I have on reel-to-reel tape and it's lovely.
-
Mercury has a complete Nutcracker - I think there may even be an SACD of it.
-
Sauce is simmering away.
-
Mercury has a complete Nutcracker - I think there may even be an SACD of it.
Wasn't there an old mono-era one in a great big album, followed by a Living Presence Stereo one?
-
I went and picked up a couple of packages, including an SACD of Close Encounters, the original album version (as opposed to the expanded), and as I drove out of there I noticed the Gelson's parking lot - a madhouse, every spot taken, lines of cars waiting to park - are these people just insane. Literally they all could have gone there last night and had a much more pleasant time as I did.
-
I just have the CD - yellow cover and a nice performance as I recall - perhaps I'll pull it out if it's where I can get to it.
-
I believe I had and gave away those mono ballet albums. Probably a mistake.
-
Listening to John Williams' The BFG. It's not one of his very top tier scores, but it's just so nice to hear a real movie score.
-
I'm very sorry to hear about Carrie Fisher's situation, and I'm sadly waiting for the other shoe to drop.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Merry Christmas Eve to all!
May you have a lovely holiday however you spend it!
-
Congrats to BK and company for the many nominations for LA NOW AND THEN and the cabaret shows.
-
Bruce, I suspect the sudden disappearance of your favorite products may be due to the distributor. I've been told that some distributors tell Home Depot, "If you want A, then you must also stock B." A little arm-twisting.
Angel Soft is usually available at Dollar Tree. The 4-roll package is $1.00, which I suspect is a LOT cheaper than Gelson's. You'd be surprised what you can find at Dollar Tree!
-
I woke up about 4am and couldn't go back to sleep. I used to do this quite a lot. It does not make for a good day. Fortunately, I've been doing it less lately. Don't know what happened last night. Excited about Santa, perhaps.
-
Good-doggie vibes to DR Michael.
-
TTFN.
-
Continued DO vibes for MR BK.......
We use the Scot tubeless which is nice......however, when you need it, you use what you have.
-
I believe I forgot to congratulation BK on his nominations
-
Congratulations Bruce!
-
As for the New Year, despite my big reservations, I hope that 2017 will be kind to you and those you love.
DITTOon these good wishes to all.

Thank you for doing this. Once home I will change it. I need my computer to do so.
-
The owner told me a pack of lies
;D
-
He told me that he was the first and only owner
😮
-
Sorry you're not up to eating today, Jane.
I think I'm going to have to learn an easy way to make huitlacoche empanadas.
I somehow managed. We went for lunch at Mi Thera and then took a nice long walk. We are going to the restaurant bar for drinks now.
Let me know how your recipe turns out.
-
Oh, the Alamo was closed today.
-
You are welcome DR JANE.
-
The patch on the ceiling was clearly visible where my dad had come through , more than 20 years earlier. I pointed it out and asked if there had been a water leak
Wow!
-
He explained that there used to be a staircase to the attic but he closed it off.
I hope you reported this guy.
-
In addition to the Fiedler, I found I have a Reiner Nutcracker excerpts, and the stereo Mercury complete ballet. Will check all of these out.
-
A couple of other interesting things surfaced, too, such as both Ormandy and Stokowski doing Swan Lake excerpts.
-
So much fun, browsing through shelves that haven't been browsed in a while.
-
I think my first Nutcracker was Dorati and the Minneapolis Symphony on Mercury. I later got their complete Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake, all of which came in gorgeous oversiced packaging. The Nutcracker I really loved was the New York City Ballet recording on Kapp, which had a ton of photos of the original 1954 City Ballet production.
-
Okay, that gorgeous oversized packaging is what I had -- large binder-type albums, kind of like 78-rpm albums.
-
With book pages built in.
Here's a listing for the Nutcracker one.

-
Well Things Have Been Done
-
Dinner has been cooked, earpten, cleaned up and the dishwasher is taking care of the rest right niw
-
Santa just went past the house riding in a fire truck festooned with Christmas lights
-
Vixdad and I will be heading out shortly for the 845 service
-
The church is only a mile from here but you must be there early to get a good pew
-
Sauce is simmering away and I'm trying to get it just right, which takes a little of this and a little of that. Everything else is ready and the water for the pasta is trying to boil and has been trying to boil for the last twenty minutes - probably should have started it ten minutes prior to that. Making five pounds of pasta - have no idea if that will be enough but I have an extra pound should we need it.

Yep. The music inside the front cover is the orchestra score for the middle section of the Dance of the Reed Pipes.
-
!!!!!!! 7 !!!!!!!
-
Sauce is to my liking, pasta is made and ready to serve, tuna pasta salad is on the table, candles are lit - where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
I like when someone arrives right at six so I can just EAT.
-
Good pew vibes for DR VIXMOM.
-
Bruce I hope you are having a very fun party.
-
We walked the River Walk with the beautiful Christmas lights and stopped at the IMax theater and purchased tickets for ROGUE in 3D tomorrow.
-
The Par-Tay should be in full swing!
-
Good evening. I have been to church. I am now enjoying my Feast of Three Fishes. Only Three, because I am not Italian.
-
Good pew vibes for DR VIXMOM.
The vibes worked, Jack, second pew, right on the aisle!
-
Good evening. I have been to church. I am now enjoying my Feast of Three Fishes. Only Three, because I am not Italian.
We had no fishes. We finished up the left over roast chicken to make room in the refrigerator
-
Great church service, brass choir, string choir, bell choir and adult choir all did their part. The church is beautifully decorated and the final hymn, Silent Night was sung by candlelight
Lovely.
I am finally in the Christmas spirit but missing my girl and my Dad something fierce
-
George, if you happen to wander by is it possible for you to post my Christmas greeting photo from FB here? For some reason I can't make it work
-

I'm home now, so I'll see what I can do. :)

Mine too please? The lights on the River Walk are lovely.

Thank you DR George.

Do is done and was rather wonderful in every way - everyone thought the sauce was the best it's been - Elizabeth Sherman is under the weather with a sore throat, so Richard was solo. About thirty people, maybe a few more, I'd say - great conversation, lots of laughs, and then the evening concluded, as always, with music - Richard sang four or five songs, we did Two Roads, I was asked to sing Simply, Sami sang Everything is Gonna Be All Right from Welcome to My World, and Adryan sang a new song she's written. I've cleaned up everything save for the two bit pots with the pasta and the sauce. Not ready to face those yet.

Gratuitous Post #200!!

Good evening!
-
Thank you all for the hugs and the good wishes.
-
The shrimp dip is made and resting in the frig. The two bags of chips are still in the car.
-
Half the gifts are wrapped, the rest first thing in the morning.
-
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate.
-
Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate.

I guess Kwanzaa doesn't start until Monday.

T.O.D.
Tomorrow afternoon I will go to my sister and brother-in-law's for presents and dinner. Then I will come home.
-
I have had no e-mails since 5:08 p.m. That is the same on all my computers.
-
Very strange.
-
I haven't checked my e-mail today.
-
I believe I forgot to congratulation BK on his nominations
I did, too. Congratulations, BK. Richly deserved.
-
But I will now.

I am watching (listening) to a Christmas concert from Berea College.
-
I had never heard of Berea College.
-
We walked the River Walk with the beautiful Christmas lights and stopped at the IMax theater and purchased tickets for ROGUE in 3D tomorrow.
Sounds like fun. Glad you're enjoying your visit to Alamo City. Even if the Alamo were closed.
-
I had never heard of Berea College.
You're obviously not a Kentuckian.
-
How are you feeling, TCB?
-
I'm just back from the annual Holiday Hooch Exchange.
-
It's a white elephant involving liquor.
-
Some of the gifts were quite clever this year. Assorted Bloody Mary kits, a kit to watch a college football game with, including a bag of popcorn, a yard-long Snickers bar and finally a bottle of vodka.
-
I'm just back from the annual Holiday Hooch Exchange.
That sounds festive.
-
I got a bottle of 15-year-old Lismore single malt Scotch and a bizarre book of photos that is sort of John Waters lite. The photo on the cover shows the photographer's mother as a cocktail table, which is why it went with the Scotch.
-
The dinner was excellent and included a mushroom soup, shrimp and grits, and a pork roast baked with pears. I'll have dessert, a chocolate hazelnut mousse torte, in the morning.
-
I have to leave in the morning for San Angelo, which is about a 3.5-hour drive.
-
Right now, I'm too tired to think about it.
-
I had never heard of Berea College.
You're obviously not a Kentuckian.
I have never set foot in Kentucky, which is my loss.
-
On the stereo is the cha-cha version of O Holy Night. It has way too much energy for this time of night.
-
Vibes for visions of sugar plums, y'all.
-
Drive safely, John. Merry Christmas!
-
I have now left Berea College to attend midnight mass from St. James

Well...
