Well, you've read the notes, the notes were musical and had education, and now it is time for you to post until the educated cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VERIDICAL!
-
First post after BK!
-
These short naps are wonderful!
-
How can we have a lot of postings, when we don't have a topic to post about?

Quick, Tom...pick one.

No, no, you pick one.

What is your favorite Gregorian chant?

Umm...can't say that I have just one. ::)
;)

Yes, that is my problem, also.

Yes, that is my problem, also.
I hate it when that happens.
;D

I must go to sleep.
-
I must go to sleep.
Good night, Tom. Sleep well and have a good day.
-
You, too, George.
-
How about: What's the strangest place you've ever unintentionally fallen asleep?
-
Good morning, all!
-
I'm ready for physical therapy. I'll leave in another hour.
-
When I return, I have a lot of Guys & Dolls work.
-
Good morning to all
-
Good morning, all.
-
Well, here we are. On the Monday that's really a Tuesday.
-
And our one day of relative warmth in these here parts. Looks like most of the traces of snow are melting off, so we'll have a clean start on the next mess.
-
Woke with a classic back ache. Must get that behind me and limber up a bit. Also must must must see about a new mattress.
-
DR TCB, I believe I began the droo/laughter over Aiden's hair ;
Having seen AND THEN THERE WERE NONE it appears to be natural and not curled for POLDARK. ;)
-
Good morning, all.
-
Back vibes for ChasSmith.
-
Fred, thanks to my apnea, I can fall asleep most any place anytime.
-
Back to my Proust. I had time yesterday to read about 80 pages or so. Felt good to pick it up again.
-
Hopefully, I will pick up a copy of SULLY at Redbox to watch tonight.
-
We watched THE KILLERS with Burt Lancaster and Ava Gardner last night.
It's still one of the great ones.

Bought that recently. Haven't had time to watch it yet. Loved it the first time I saw it.

Apropos of nothing, I was clearing a few inches of shelf space by getting rid of something I've enjoyed receiving over the years, and still enjoy receiving but they're kind of ephemeral and are mostly available online, anyway: the Leonard Bernstein newsletter Prelude, Fugue & Riffs (http://www.leonardbernstein.com/newsletter_past.htm). It's kind of like The Sondheim Review, which I also gave up keeping around some time ago.
Does anyone want a stack of these to read through, going back the past ten years or so? I got in on it at the beginning and thought I'd kept every issue. That turned out to be a myth, which is unfortunate because the ones prior to 2000 are NOT online. This was launched a year or so after Bernstein died, so it's too bad I didn't keep those early ones.

We are on our way to the Natural Bridge Caverns.
-
Tuesday morning greetings! Bright and sunny here in SW Ohio today.
-
DR Jane, I'm enjoying your Texas vacation along with you!
-
We are on our way to the Natural Bridge Caverns.
You're doing all the things I haven't done because I live there.

Back vibes for DR CHAS SMITH.

Very exciting notes - write where your excitement leads you MR BK!!!
-
Quiet day today.....these are very nice....just what I imagined they would be when I thought about retirement.
-
Music Education......the notes were most interesting. I wish such information was made available to students in elementary and high school in a class..... It would be so important to their development as PEOPLE to know that music existed BEFORE Miley Cyrus.....and even before MADONNA!
-
I am home from therapy, which went well, and I need to dig through my Guys and Dolls files for some scores. I got from Rob Berman a Cole Porter song I bet few have ever heard called "The Great Indoors"
-
I heard from Joshie. He and Jeremy are on the train from Vermont and will arrive around 2. I don't know if I will see him tomorrow or not.
-
There are reports that Carrie Fisher has died. So sad.
-
Yes there are several reports that it is so.....but after the events of last week.....not unexpected.

Too young... :'(

There are reports that Carrie Fisher has died. So sad.
Someone here at work mentioned that, and a few of us who are "Star Wars" fans wondered what's going to happen with the next movie. I guess she was supposed to be a big part of it. :(

Actually, I'm sure that his hair is naturally curly and was straightened for AND THEN THERE WERE NONE. In "Being Human" (much earlier in his career), his hair was quite curly then, too.
-
Yes, the news about Carrie is true. I got into a little set-to with a former dear reader who has turned into quite the jerk - on Facebook of course, where else. I have grown weary of the new born and bred Facebook cliche "Enough 2016" or "2016 just stop" or any variation thereof when someone dies (or other things that happen that people don't like) - like we haven't had years in which a lot of people died and as if no one will be dying in 2017. The wonderful George S. Irving died a few days ago at ninety-four and people are posting how devastated they are - I accept that from people who knew and worked with him, although those people don't do that, they celebrate his spirit and life, that's what those people do. It's the people who never knew him that do the other stuff, and I occasionally post about it, saying they should just be celebrating anyone who has lived to that kind of ripe old age. Carrie Fisher did not live to a ripe old age - THAT is sad, THAT is devastating. But this dear reader clearly left us at some point (don't even remember when and don't really care) because of me - he joins a list of about five others who apparently think I'm some kind of huge putz and awful person. I used to be upset by it - not any more. We are all who we are, and our deeds and the life lived are all that's important - not someone's bad opinion of who we are because he/she may have been rubbed the wrong way. I think good always outweighs whatever bad people may perceive, but the bad perception usually has more to do with the person feeling it than the person it's directed at.
-
Oh, and I'm up. Almost eight hours of sleep but not quite - my mind is abuzz, oh, yes, my mind is abuzz.

I'd read that the 8th movie was filmed, so that's done. It's the final movie (#9) that will have to deal with Carrie Fisher's death...if not Princess Leah's.

We are on our way to the Natural Bridge Caverns.
You're doing all the things I haven't done because I live there.
It is pretty and worth seeing, however, we did not enjoy the unorganized tour.

We stopped in Gruen and walked around. Now we are going to San Marcos for the night.
-
Back vibes for DR CHAS SMITH.
Ditto!

Very sad. Earlier I checked the news to see how she was doing and Debbie had sounded optimistic .

That is what I noticed, it is naturally curly. You could tell when it curled up outside ;D

I'm sad about Carrie Fisher, more than I might ever have thought in years past. She had so much to teach us.
-
Well, I just got a call from my friend Margo and we're going to have a double-feature movie night tonight. First, we'll meet at the west side (of Olympia) Red Robin for dinner (it's her birthday month, so she gets a free burger with her rewards card), then we'll head out to the Lacey Regal cinemas and see "La La Land."
-
After that, we'll hie ourselves back to the west side (of Olympia) to see "Arrival" at the Cinemark/Century/Capitol Mall theater. What's funny (strange) is that "La La Land" is only playing in Lacey and "Arrival" is only playing on the west side (of Olympia). :-\
-
There's enough time to go from one theater to the other between the movies, so it'll be fine. Margo lives on the west side (of Olympia) and I live in Tumwater, so the west side (of Olympia) is actually on my way home from Lacey.
;)
-
I just heard from my Aunt Minnie. She has a ticket for me for tomorrow's dress rehearsal of Roméo et Juliette at the Met.

Very nice.
-
George, your double feature sounds like fun.
-
Fun DR ELMORE.....
"Professor, do you think Romeo and Juliet had premarital relations?"
"Only in the Des Moines company."
-
Enjoy the movies DR GEORGE.
-
As time goes by, I am less and less concerned about what people think about me. Of course I am not in the Public Eye as MR BK is.....
-
I'm just surprised occasionally by the vitriolic reaction to me by certain people, especially former dear readers to whom I have never EVER said an unkind word, like the one today, who behaved like a total jerk in responding to me. That's what I never understand. If I'd taken him on at some point, taken him to task at some point, sure, hate me, I don't care one way or another. But when that isn't the case, I just find it baffling. And I happily called him out on it.
-
Had a bacon and cheese omelet and an English muffin - after I ascertained there were no packages to pick up so I came home. The helper came by and got some invoices and now I'm relaxing and listening to music.
-
George, your double feature sounds like fun.
I know, right? :D
-
Enjoy the movies DR GEORGE.
Thanks, Jrand! I intend to.

I shall, of course, listen to them in reverse alphabetical order.

I know how you feel.
-
Ginny we are sitting on the lovely patio having dinner at Palmer's.
-
We are pleased the loud lady next to us talking on the phone has left, but then I am writing ;D
-
Page three? Really?
-
Listening to some Paul Creston symphonies on Naxos. I had the Delos recordings of lots of his music and after listening to bits of all of them decided out they go - they are literally mastered so low you can't hear a damn thing, and on top of that that awful distant miking and these things got raves when they came out - not sure how anyone with ears could not hear how bad they are. A shame because the music is lovely.
-
Jane, is the admission to the Alamo always free, or were you on some kind of special deal?
-
Always free.
-
I am still uncertain which book will the THE book - waffling back and forth. I like the idea of this new thing but I'm not sure I'm in love with the direction it was going, so I'm still making notes and trying to figure it out.
-
Ginny we are sitting on the lovely patio having dinner at Palmer's.
The menu tonight at THIS Palmer's was glazed ham, sweet potatoes, and green beans.
-
Jane, is the admission to the Alamo always free, or were you on some kind of special deal?
Always free. They ask for donations.
-
Ginny we are sitting on the lovely patio having dinner at Palmer's.
The menu tonight at THIS Palmer's was glazed ham, sweet potatoes, and green beans.
I had green beans with extra things, cruel Chyna onion rings on top.
What I really typed was extra thin, crispy onion rings ;D
-
Keith kindly gave me one of his delicious sweet potato fries I stupidly passed on for the lettuce in a Cesar salad. The salad was rather bad.

Instead of one tour guide you continue on to different people at various stages. A couple of times we saw a "guide" who let us continue through only to hear the person talking to the group behind us. Keith began narrating what we were looking at and how everything was formed so I did not need the guides who talked into the microphones and we're difficult to understand ;D
-
Apparently my mail person thinks it's still a holiday. There has been not a trace of any mail people anywhere in our neighborhood today.
-
I have been sucked into the crime-filled world of Miss Phryne Fisher. Another addiction.
-
Well, Margo and I were going to go to Red Robin for her birthday dinner tonight, but I started the fiscal year rollover here at work and it took longer than expected, so I'm just leaving now. I'll get something to eat on the way to the theater and we'll go to Red Robin another time. I don't want to miss the movies.
Be back later (not tonight, though) with a report.
-
We watched SULLY tonight.
Okay, but not great. The movie ran 90 minute, yet it seemed padded.
I felt they could have told the story in half the time.
-
I think I'll watch a short movie tonight. Re Sully, one of the best movies of the year. And that's what makes horse racing. And it's Clint's shortest movie EVER.
-
I keep losing the wifi connection so....
'night
-
Good evening!
-
I have not seen SULLY, although I have read the various opinions here with interest.
-
Good evening, Jack!
-
Good evening, Vixmom.
-
I do want to see LA LA LAND and THE BEST THING......etc about MERRILY.....
I didn't pay much attention to Emma Stone for a long time....saw her in this and that....but I really liked her in BIRDMAN and ALOHA....for me she has kind of stepped out of the crowd of the cookie cutter young actresses on the screen right now.....
-
I keep thinking it should be Sunday.
-
Tired...
-
I was still sick on Saturday night and Sunday morning, so I missed church services this Christmas.
-
Choosing the book vibes for MR BK......perhaps you should write them both. I remember growing up there were books that had TWO novels in the same volume. And they were printed opposite each other so that the novel you weren't reading at the time and took up the other half of the volume was upside down.....it was bizarre....
-
I got a lovely e-card from DR ELMORE today.
-
MR BK I guess we have to understand that inexplicable rage on the part of some people is more about them than anything we may have said or done.....
-
Are you just getting home, Vixmom?
-
MR BK I guess we have to understand that inexplicable rage on the part of some people is more about them than anything we may have said or done.....
I just wish I knew who we were talking about.
-
The Washington State Cougars lost their bowl game today.
-
I guess it was an upset.
-
I am afraid that Vixmom may have fallen asleep.
-
I would like to see ARRIVAL.
-
I guess I will wait until the DVD is released.
-
I don't have much interest in seeing LA LA LAND.
-
This is one long page.
-
Vixmom has now signed back out.
-
One more post.
-
Page 5
-
Best wishes to BK deciding what book to write.
-
Once he starts writing, if he needs any advice, I will be happy to offer my assistance.
-
No guests tonight.
-
Well, apparently there are five guests, but none of them are on today's notes or posts.
-
I am currently watching the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl from the Valley of the Sun.
-
Their description, not mine.
-
Baylor is playing Boise State.
-
I don't care about either team.
-
Now we have 1 Guest.
-

Finished with my viewing.

I don't feel well today.
-
Maybe it is just old age.
-
I need to go to bed.

So, I was so taken by the two pieces I heard last night by Samuel Jones, that I Googled him, delighted to find he's still with us and has a website, so I wrote him a nice e-mail, since he knew a producer I worked with regularly in the Bay Cities days. I just got the sweetest e-mail back from him - and he was so happy, as most of us are, when someone takes notice and also takes the time to write. I thought I'd bought the rest of what's on CD, but he pointed me to three other pieces - two on DVD and one audio book that's actually just concert music and narration, so I'll pick those up, too.
-
Vibes for TCB
-
Good night, all.
-
Listening to the rest of the Dello Joio I put in iTunes. This man is the best of what American music is. For me, he's right up there with Copland for sheer beauty, but he's nothing like Copland - he is very much who he is musically, but his music is filled with such heart, such melodic beauty, that I could just play it over and over again. We put out a few things of his on Bay Cities and I remember even then how much I loved him and whenever I'd see something released on CD I'd grab it - in the LP days I had everything of his, which is how I already knew his work by the time we did Bay Cities. Now playing, three ballets of Martha Graham that featured his music. Can't get enough.

We might actually get some sunshine tomorrow!
-
But next Monday and Tuesday the high temperature is only going to be 31 degrees, with a low of 18 degrees.
-
For Western Washington that is unusually cold.
-
I know that is nothing for most of the country.
-
Except maybe in Florida and California.
-
Well, all over the south.
-
And we may get a little snow on New Year's Day.
-
But the chance of that is pretty slight.
