Well, you've read the notes, the notes had both joy and Dello Joio, and now it is time for you to post until the joyous cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ULTIMA!
-
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to the wonderful occasional dear reader Julie, friend of FJL and his ever-lovin' Skip and me, too.
-
First post after BK!
-
Happy Birthday to ODR Julie.

A very happy birthday to dear occasional dear reader Julie!!!

Why am I up so early, and yet not early enough to have been first after BK?
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR Julie!! :D

Well, I saw two movies last night and thoroughly enjoyed both, though they're very different kinds of movies. "La La Land" was delightful and fun (if not groundbreaking in any way), and a feel-good movie that everyone in the theater seemed to enjoy...there was even some applause when it was over. I didn't clap, but I really liked it.
-
"Arrival" was very moody, and not your standard blow-'em-up-first-then-ask-questions sci-fi movie. It was slow and much of the first half to two-thirds was very similar to the original short story, which I just read last month. The SPOILER ALERT: surprise explosion and the military scenes following it weren't in the original story (from what I remember), and weren't really needed at all, in my humble opinion.
-
And now, I'm going to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning to all
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Got a busy day ahead of me with various and sundry things to be done.
-
I'll probably start with the various, and move into the sundry later this afternoon.
-
Good morning, all!
-
A really bad night of sleep. Too many panic attacks, worries about Social Security and Medicare, wishing the new administration all dead, it was a bad night.
-
Today I am off to the Metropolitan Opera doe the dress rehearsal of Roméo et Juliette. I'm sitting with the children of Diana Montague, my Aunt Minnie, who plays Juliet's Nurse. I am looking forward to it. I haven't been to a Met dress rehearsal in about ten years.
-
DR JRands66, you got that e-card yesterday? I sent it on Dec. 23!
-
Have a WONDERFUL day at the opera, DR Elmore.
-
DR JohnG, I am completely addicted to Miss Phryne Fisher. The last episode is a killer, although rumors keep floating about that there will be a feature film.
-
Have a WONDERFUL day at the opera, DR Elmore.
Thank you, Dr ChasSmith!

Got my Ancestry DNA results back.
I'm 99% Europe. Of that, the largest percentage is Western Europe, followed by Great Britain, Ireland, and Scandinavia. We've always known about the Swedish line, so no surprise there. No Africa, Asia, Pacific, Americas, or Native American.
The fun part begins now, as Ancestry has already started linking me up with potential relations -- and even that is scratching the surface, as it doesn't really take off till I have a family tree on the site and make it public. I have mine, so far, in a standalone program and am being very cautious about putting it online as I'm very concerned about accuracy. But I will start putting the basics up there, and take it slowly.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to former DR Julie 🎂🎂🎂
-
Yes, a very Happy Birthday to DR Julie (who I actually even met once).
-
Wednesday morning greetings! It looks like I forgot to log out here on my computer last night...

Happy Birthday DR JULIE.

Feel better vibes for DR TCB.
Sundry vibes for DR CHAS SMITH.

Happiest of birthdays to DR Julie!

Thanks for the movie report DR GEORGE

My question for ASK BK DAY:
How do you pronounce Dello Joio?
Is it .... Dell-o (like Hello) and Joy-O?

Happy birthday, ODR Julie!
-
Good Morning
-
Last night I did a mini Carrie Fisher marathon and watched Star Wars Episode's 4, 5 and 6. 4 and 5 are my favorites, 6 is kinda dumb, except for the Luke and Darth Vador thing.
-
DR Danise, who we wish posted more often, could use some good health Vibes. She is spending the second night in the hospital due to complications from a kidney stone.
-
I've always pronounced it Joy-O.
-
I'm right about Joy-O.
-
I was up at ten - not quite eight hours of sleep.
-
I like that name. I think I will start using it.
Jack Joio.....or Jon Joio.....just rolls off the tongue.....

I am home. The opera had moments, although I disliked the sets and would prefer to see Roméo et Juliette in Renaissance costumes. These were 19th century and it was hard to tell the Capulets frm the Montagues without colo-coordinated livery. I saw Rob Berman and Marc Bruni, director of Beautiful: the Carol King Musical, at the break, ad we had a nice visit. I did like the fights; they were well-staged.

Due to a weight issue our flight is delayed. . It looks like we will have to stop in Colorado Springs to refuel. Apparently there are headwinds causing this issue of needing more fuel. We can't add it now or the plane will weigh too much. I hope I don't get airsick on the flight or landing.

Question: What kind of moron puts their trash in someone else's trashcans outside? They don't have their own damn trashcans? So they put their trash in the car, go for a ride and when no one is looking insert it into someone else's trashcan. Someone please explain it to me.
-
Picked up a couple of packages, made more notes, and down to a song or two to choose, started writing a lyric to a new tune, and like that.
-
Jane - Thanks for that answer last night about the Alamo's admissions policy.

Page three? Really?

Screener has not arrived yet - arrival time being pegged between 12:15 and 4:15 - at 4:16, should it not be here, I will immediately call UPS and give them a whaffo.
-
Since I can't remember all the stuff I've been putting into iTunes I went back to the A's and am going in order. So far the Copland piano concerto (quite a good piece), then a short Douglas Moore piece (also good), the Elmer Bernstein guitar concerto - really great, three Carlos Chavez symphonies (also really good - and SHORT), and now Ernesto Halffter's Rhapsodia Portuguesa, which is also great.
-

Because they generate so much trash that their own trash cans are filled, and they can't wait the week (or two) for their own trash to be picked up and emptied. They MUST get rid of it NOW, anyway they can and they think that they won't get caught.
And they feel that they're entitled to do whatever the hell they want.
Just my 2¢.
-
I should go through their crap to see if there are any identifiers like mail. Then I could nail the mofos and go to their house and leave all MY trash.
-
Listening to some Faure. Right now the violin concerto.
-
Listening to some Faure and wondering why every post is taking ten to twenty seconds to post IF it posts at all.
-

Here at my work, we'd get in trouble if we bring our own trash from home and put it in the library's trash. It's called "theft of service." Evidently, it's actually a punishable offense.

I think their trashcans are probably full.
I have no idea why this is. But my sister says that they are only picking up their trash every 2 weeks (in the winter). They still do recycling and composting every week. But what the heck. Every two weeks?? She said she may bring some of her garbage over. Um okay.

Wasn't caring for the Faure and will try again in a day or two - but have switched over to David Diamond and all that stuff I uploaded a few days ago - Mr. Diamond was a diamond and his music is wonderful.

Jane - Thanks for that answer last night about the Alamo's admissions policy.
My pleasure.

UPS package still hasn't arrived. They give you a four-hour window, don't adhere to it, then tell you it's just an estimate and they'll deliver by seven no problem. When pressed on that, they then say because of the holidays (what holidays) they have until nine. I don't think it will show up, frankly. I'd like to be proven wrong, but I don't know that I've ever had a UPS delivery after five.
-
Answer my damn question, you people.
Regarding the people who dropped trash in your can? I figured that was rhetorical .
-
We are in Denver. The landing was not too bad so I am only slightly sick. The fumes while we wait to refuel are making me worse.
-
Refuling should have been quick but they decided we need to wait for a gate to be free and do it there. Sigh.
-

Leave them their trash not yours.

No!

I let my neighbors fill up my trashcans if theirs are overflowing. I rarely fill mine since i live alone and the can is enormous. But i don't like the idea of drive-by trash.
-
Watching an old but fascinating oddity called Brazil with Virginia Bruce, Tito Guizar and Edward Everett Horton. They really use Portuguese with a Brazilian accent, something I haven't heard in many other Hollywood movies from the war time.
Somewhere in the Brazilian rainforest, they also manage to find Roy Rogers, who has a guest spot.

Finally, a gate has opened.

We are still at the gate. At least they had a new pilot waiting for us as ours was at the time limit crew is permitted to work. He is now a passenger sitting across from me. He came out saying how bad he feels for us. I am sure he too would like to get home.

Favorite Debbie Reynolds movie, everyone?
-
Debbie had been in ill health for some time - not unexpected, especially on the heels of Carrie dying.
-
I love Singin' in the Rain, of course, but I also enjoyed her in Mother and The Pleasure of His Company. And she did some good work with Bob Fosse in Give a Girl a Break.

Five!

So sad to hear about Debbie Raynolds

Just had a long telephonic conversation with Muse Margaret. I told her the title and idea I'd had for the new book - I was beginning to second guess my initial thought for what the book could be about, but the minute she heard the title and what I was thinking about she got very excited and said this was absolutely the book to write beginning next Sunday. That was just what I needed to hear. I've been doing nothing but thinking about it - I'm not even concerned about what the actual plot will be - I never am - that always comes to me as I write and it's more organic that way, but I just had to have the launching point and I do have what I think is a good one. And the central thing that sets the story in motion is something I've been obsessed with all my life and I've wanted to do a book that used it forever and I guess now I will. So, I created the template, wrote the first two pages (I'd already done the first two paragraphs) and I'd confirmed with Muse Margaret that I'd written two versions of those first two paragraphs - third person and first person but that first person seemed better for this story and she wholeheartedly agreed. So, here we go.
-
Bk was it a large amount of garbage?
-
No package as of yet - I'm not waiting until nine either - they're getting the next call at seven, which is their usual cut-off time for deliveries and this time I won't be talking to the Philippines.

Was your can at the curb awaiting pickup or was it up at your house?

Debbie had been in ill health for some time - not unexpected, especially on the heels of Carrie dying.
A similar thing happened recently in a family we know. The 59-year-old son died on December 14 and the 90-year-old father on the 16th.

Starting a French animated movie called Fantastic Planet. Haven't seen it before. I like the fact that speak slowly and fairly simply, so I can understand a lot of what they're saying without having to read the subtitles.

Hello, everyone.

Caught up on the Notes and almost caught up on the posts.

SUCCESSFUL SURGERY and QUICK RECOVERY VIBES TO DR GINNY!
-
On the phone with a supervisor from UPS - the poor idiot gal I got first made the bad mistake of lying to me so I removed her head and then she transferred me. I don't actually think this was ever out for delivery today despite what the UPS site says - the green portion only says "in transit" whereas the out for delivery part of the progress bar isn't green. But it also clearly states the delivery date is today. Turns out they never put it and a ton of other packages on the truck. My guy took it all the way to the top supervisor who guaranteed it will be out for delivery tomorrow but they can't guarantee me what time it will arrive. THIS is why I loathe UPS - they just don't care. Big volume is the excuse but in case they haven't noticed Christmas was three days ago.
-
Re the trash:
When I lived in Santa Monica many years ago, I discovered that our trash cans were completely full, whereas the neighbor's was half empty, so I used his can. He came out, screaming at me. I explained the situation and that I didn't want to leave the trash, which was neatly tied up in a plastic bag, on the ground where critters could get to it. Apparently he recognized me then and apologized. I couldn't understand why anyone would get upset at someone who was trying to do the responsible thing by stowing their trash in a garbage can. I get upset at people who DON'T stow it.
-
Surely there is room, on this day of Joy of Mr. Joio, for Joy of Mr. Joyboy.
-
I love the MISS FISHER mysteries. I was hoping for another season, but Essie Davis has moved to London, so it's doubtful. A feature film sounds more likely. Her timing seems strange. In the US, I don't think she was well-known until she did MISS FISHER.
-
I stopped at Whole Foods Market today after therapy, looking for something they didn't have. I noticed they make cronuts (croissant donuts) now, so I tried one. So-so, as far as I'm concerned. Not worth the calories.

I do not understand anyone who would use someone else's garbage cans when they clearly do not live in the neighborhood. I don't get it. It came from no house near me.
-
Have finished with David Diamond (wonderful stuff) and am now listening to one of the CDs that arrived today - early 1960s recordings of the suites to Khachaturian's great Spartacus and Gayene ballets. Sound is great.
-
Page six isn't so bad.
-
Isn't it funny that the two most well-known pieces from Gayene have been used in two classic motion pictures (and others, too) - the Sabre Dance for Billy Wilder's One, Two, Three and the adagio used in 2001: A Space Odyssey. The Sabre Dance is unbelievably brilliant writing.
-
Good evening!
-
I am stunned by Debbie Reynolds passing.

I loved her in so many movies.

I thought about watching MOLLY BROWN today, but I didn't feel up to it.

I guess maybe I will watch it this weekend.

One more post.

Page Seven!

Tomorrow I am taking Sharry out for her birthday.

I don't really feel up to it, but I already postponed lunch last week

Home sweet home
-
The showering for ideas has begun in earnest. I get all my best ideas in the shower - and I got several really good ones tonight and immediately wrote them all down. I'm truly jazzed now and can't wait to get started. I guess it wasn't much of a secret that the book I'd decided to write was a new Adriana Hofstetter mystery, given I've been doing one every other year and 2017 was the year. But I think what was holding me back and keeping me less than thrilled about it, despite coming up with a great title and setting, was that the 2016 book had been an off-shoot of of Adriana and she'd even made an appearance in it. I just couldn't work up enthusiasm these past two weeks, even though I'd had fun writing the couple of rough paragraphs. But while I love that series, creating something brand new that I've never done before is much more exciting for me and also much scarier as I'm creating brand new characters and setting and world. I haven't really done one of those since Red Gold, although the Bronstein book was the most fun I've ever had writing a book and it was, in essence, completely original despite the character having already existed in the Adriana books.
-
Listening to some excellent Khachaturian film music I found in the CD closet - quite stirring and one only wishes the recording were better - still, the music is great.
-
I am still stressing over Debbie Reynolds' death.
-
I didn't have the same attachment with Carrie Fisher.
-
I only saw the first STAR WARS film, and I didn't like it.
-
And I have never read any of her books.
-
It's been a long day and I have a doctor's appointment early in the morning. Hopefully some answers will be forthcoming.
GOOD VIBES!
-
And I have never read any of her books.
I think I read "Postcards from the Edge" when it was first published, but I don't remember much about it, at all.
