Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in the first person, and now it is time for you to post until the first person cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: YEASAYER!
-
First post after BK!
-
Spoo! When I posted the temperature at the end of last night, I typed the wrong number. It was actually 28°, not 24°. But that doesn't matter...it's 26° now in Tumwater, Washington.
-
Well, I am sure it will continue to fall.
-
Well, I am sure it will continue to fall.
I don't doubt that at all.
-
I may not turn down the heat in the bedroom tonight.
-
Today is Tuesday! I am so very confused.
-
I guess I will turn on some music and drift off to sleep. Good night, George.

Good night, Tom. I'm off to bed now, too.

TOD: Before it was so easy to buy online, my favorite was the huge Holiday lane at Macy's, which was always decorated to the hilt and not just for kids.
Tiffany's on 57th and 5th was always wonderful as well, and they were very smart about positioning some gifts that you could buy in the $25 or $30 range here and there among the super-expensive things, so that regular customers didn't feel totally left out. (I gather there were areas of the store where people looking for the more exclusive stuff could avoid the "crowd" and have the high end stuff brought to them.)

First person on the east coast!
-
Congrats to BK on the awards!!!
-
Good morning today is the first work day of 2017 for the likes of me
-
TOD
Dollar Tree is a wonderful source for wrapping paper, paper goods, scotch tape, gift bags, greeting cards, etc and there are two within a mile of my house. One of them used to be a Deals store which is also part of the Dollar Tree family. That would sell items up to $20 and was a wonderful help in my social ministry work as it would have things like packs of 10 -15 washcloths for $5 and 6 -8 packs of men's socks for $3.00 and boxes of 80 gallon size ziplock plastic bags for $3. Unfortunately they are no more

Congratulations to BK for the awards!!

Guess I had better start my day...
-
Jane,
My old job use to close for bank holidays so we were off for MLK day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, etc as well as Good Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and we were given either Christmas Eve or New Years Eve off ( 1/2 the staff had to be in for one or the other so we would agree amongst ourselves who would take which day)
This job we work most bank holidays only off for July 4th, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Christmas Day, New Years Day Thanksgiving and the Friday after... He's been trying to take that Friday back but we have been standing strong . This yearbecauseof Christmas and New Years falling on a Sunday we got the Monday's off. But that won't happen again for another 6 years now
-
Good morning, all!
-
This is a physical therapy day. Then I will head down to City Center. Nine days from todat we have our first orchestra reading of all the New Yorkers orchestrations written in the past month or so. Joshie and I are working like mad to be ready for it. In most of the first Encores! orchestra readings, Joshie is caught up in library work to the last minute. I want everything we're playing to be ready by a week from now, so we can spend the rehearsal listening.
-
BK, good news about the awards!

DR JohnG, Season 5 of A Place To Call Home begins shooting next month.

Therapy vibes for DR ELMORE.
Feel better vibes for DR JEANNE.

Congrats to MR BK, MR SHERMAN, & KRITZERLAND on their CD award.....and the MR BK & CO for the "LA" Award.....most deserved.
-
I am feeling better today....I have to remember to stay hydrated and to eat!
I am shopping today and two of my favorite stores: Dollar Tree & WalMart.
I also like Best Buy and Men's Wearhouse.
Today I shall also go to the bank! I got my $3 increase on my SS check which is most excellent and will buy three packages of cookies at Dollar Tree. I like to buy cookies at Dollar Tree because for $4, you can buy four different kinds of cookies and fill up the cookie jar! At WalMart the same money would only buy one big bag of cookies and one SMALL bag of cookies.....if you're lucky.
-
Today I shall also go to the bank! I got my $3 increase on my SS check which is most excellent
I don't believe I got a Social Security increase! I won't know for certain until my payment arrives in two more weeks.
-
TOD:
My wife does most of the shopping these days, but I do enjoy browsing through Half-Price Books. There are some interesting "treasures" there.
-
Does anybody here watch THE AFFAIR.
I think it's one of the best shows currently on the air.
-
Good morning.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Yesterday afternoon/evening was my breakthrough. This cold had finally hit bottom yesterday morning and I could tell I was on my way up. Then, instead of a solid sleep, I had an oddly toss and turn-y night ... but it was okay because I felt so damned good in comparison to the past four days.
Let there be rejoicing throughout the land.
-
To answer BK's question about Sambucol: YES.
This was a weird one, though, being a "relapse" cold, and the few times I've had that happen, they're much rougher than normal.
It'll be a few days before I can be really active, but it is wonderful being free of that sick feeling.
-
YES.....how could I have forgotten Half Price!!!! Thanks for reminding me DR DRUXY.
You mentioned Island in the Sky yesterday.....one thing has always bothered me about that movie.....
The plane in trouble is flying with the pilots facing the left side of the screen.....and the rescue plane supposedly coming from the other way is ALSO flying with the pilots face the left side of the screen.....I always thought they should be facing the other way......
I think that's the movie I'm thinking of.....it could be THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY, but I don't think there was a rescue plane flying out to meet them.....

Loosing all those days off should have been your first warning not to take this job ;)
Actually I would guess that all those days off is not the norm.
Vibes 2017 is the year you find a better job!!!!!!

I don't believe I got a Social Security increase! I won't know for certain until my payment arrives in two more weeks.
You should have received a letter regarding an increase if you are receiving one.
-
DR Jrand I am glad you are feeling better.
-
DR DRUXY I watched Nick Adams in an episode of HONDO last night....they certainly put a LOT of makeup on him to make him an Apache....but he was a mean one....he killed David Nelson and roughed up David's wife.....Annette Funicello.
He ended up dead in the river......

Does anybody here watch THE AFFAIR.
I think it's one of the best shows currently on the air.
I have never watched it. The subject doesn't interest me. I am sure I miss lots of good shows for that reason.

That was me. I might be wrong but I believe the pilots were facing me on my right with co-pilots on my left. The director, and narrator, William A Wellman was a pilot with the French Foreign Legion and again with the US Army Air Corps. Later he taught combat fighting to new pilots.

Tuesday morning greetings! My mismatched eyes are really bothering me today - Thursday morning can't come soon enough...

Coping vibes for DR Ginny!
-
Good morning, all.
-
First day back to work is a doozy. Too many meetings.
-
TOD:
Any used bookstore would qualify. These days, Half Price is probably at a the top of the list. Was there last night.
I used to love record shops of any sort but they're too corporate now and I don't keep up with music anymore.
-
Good morning
-
I'm here in my classroom trying to make heads or tails of pre-holiday madness.

Congratulations to BK.

I'm up, I'm up - definitely eight hours of sleep.

I don't watch it, but I've been recording it for my friend Margo. She LOVES this show. I've seen bits of it and it doesn't grab me. But enjoy!

DR JANE - you don't look anything like DR DRUXY! How could I make such a mistake?

Got my dad a silver pencil from the Tiffany's inChicago way back in the day. It was on one those displays. Wonder what happened to it.

Coping vibes for DR Ginny!
~~~Ditto!!~~~
Back at work today.
I have a sore throat.
And I've alternated between being too warm and too chilled.
This is the "third" week of a major cold. I took one that manifested itself Sunday, Dec. 18. It was a doozy of a head cold which promptly moved into my chest. It's now lodged in my throat. I have had a couple of shots and am on anti-biotics.
It just won't let go. Lots of folks around me have gotten sick or been sick in my absence.
This is NOT pretty.
-
Please send vibes for DR Kerry, who is ill in the hospital. I am leaving soon to go see him.
-
Futzed and finessed yesterday's writing. Made a lot of little adjustments and changes and additions and then wrote another page-and-a-half. Tree people are outside and are making so much noise I just have to take a break until they're done. So, I'll eat some tuna pasta salad right now, and hopefully the cacophony will be done soon.
-
What's Kerry in for, Laura? And yes, many vibes.
-
Welcome back, Ron.
-
Three!
-
Elmore, my Cole Porter expert friend: in Find Me a Primitive Man, when the gets to the line " ... the gypsy in me," is it the same melody as "The Gypsy in Me" from "Anything Goes"?
Or is that just the way it was sung on the Fifty Million Frenchmen recording?
Antibiotics are not given for a cold, even a bad one. This sounds much worse.
Bruce congratulations on the Eddon Award.
BK, do you read castrecl?
Someone who wrote a Best Of list included LA Now and Then, Unsung Sherman Brothers, Eubie! and Sun Valley Serenade in various categories.
-
Please send vibes for DR Kerry, who is ill in the hospital. I am leaving soon to go see him.
Oh no! What the HELL?
Vibes a'plenty!
-
Still noisy after all these years. Hopefully they'll be finished soon.
-
Darrel Karl sends me his lists every year so I did see it - very nice!
-
My favorites stores have changed over the years, depending on my age, life style, and where we lived. I only have favorite food places here.
They are not the same, but close.
-
And I am home, wet, but home. And they are not sung the same on the two recordings. In "Find Me A Primitive Man," the notes "Gypsy In Me" are V-I-V-I (So Do So Do) and in "The Gypsy In Me," the notes are V-IV-IIII-V (So Fah Me So).
Vibes for DR KERRY!
-
I don't hear that similarity in other recordings, such as Elaine Stritch's or Madeline Kahn's, but I heard it today on the Frenchman recording and just wondered. So, thank you.
Cold Be Gone Vibes for DR RLP.
Vibes for DR KERRY!
Ditto!
Many health vibes for Kerry!!!
Anti-cold vibes for Ron.
When I worked for Office Outfitters in Middletown between 1973 and 1978, the lady who was in charge of the order dept. had grown up and gone through high school with my mother/ During the 1970's she was my superviser and surrogate mother: nurturing, encouraging, honest, everything my screwed-up mother was not. She came to see everything I worked on, and I occasionally forced her to come along, sew something, or paint something. Several years ago, when I saw her in Middletown, she said, "Come back and do another show!"
I've just learned that Peggy Short died today. I will miss her
-
Elmore - Condolences to you on your loss. She seems like she was a very special person.
Aw, I am sorry. She was obviously a very special person.
I'm so sorry, Larry. My condolences to you.
I'm sorry, Elmore. Peggy sounds like a wonderful woman.
DR Kerry is in good spirits. Or high on drugs. Maybe both. Send lots of extra-strength vibes. He needs them.
EXTRA STRENGTH VIBES FOR DR KERRY!!!!
-
Just made sure that that little slap in the face from the final day of 2016 can never happen again.
-
Damn them, damn them all to hell.
-
Page four? Really?
-
I think I've only done four pages so far because two of the pages needed research and I spent over an hour doing that, maybe more, but I like learning about things that I don't know much about.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
MEGA VIBES to DR KERRY!
Laura, thanks for letting us know and please keep us updated.
-
Health vibes to DRs Ron and JRand and Chas.
I hope you're all feeling better pronto!
-
Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, Larry. I'm glad you had her to nurture you.
I don't believe I got a Social Security increase! I won't know for certain until my payment arrives in two more weeks.
I received one, but it was eaten up by the Medicare increase. You should have received a notice in the mail detailing this.
-
I make as many of my purchases online as I can, as I was NOT born to shop. I used to go to Target, thinking I as getting good prices, but Target--at least here in LA--has changed quite a bit over the last few years. Then I discovered Dollar Tree! So much cheaper! They don't have everything, of course. But for the things I do buy there I save a lot of money.
I also shop at Bed, Bath & Beyond for some things--towels, mostly.
-
I did more tax prep when I got home today. I'm pleased at the progress I'm making. It can be so tedious. I'll be glad when this part is behind me.
-
CONGRATS again to BK, both for the LA show award and the new UNSUNG SHERMAN BROTHERS award.
-
TTFN.
-
I've done seven pages and will definitely do three more tonight at some point. I will definitely get to the end of chapter one, although I may stop short of ending it so I can pick up there tomorrow. And tomorrow I enter some very interesting territory.
-
Hello!
Health vibes for DR Kerry!
Feel better vibes for DR RLP!
Congrats, BK , on all your awards!
The Gang's All Here has arrived in San Antonio!
-
What's wrong with this sentence?
From The New York Times:
If you strive to eat better, be more adventurous or take more risks in 20017, steak tartare and pommes Anna are a good starting point, writes the chef Gabrielle Hamilton.
:)
-
:)
Where to begin? If you'd read either of Hamilton's books, you'd know this is not usual.
-
Today, I received the Cesar Franck Symphony in D-minor and Stravinsky's Pétrouchka SACD Hybrid CD from BK's latest sale! I listened to the whole thing. Since I'm on my work computer and using just regular stereo headphones, I can't hear how well the Super Audio sounds, but the pieces themselves are very good. I enjoyed the Stravinsky more than the Franck, but they were both quite enjoyable. :)
-
And now, it's finally time for me to head home, so I shall.
Until later.
-
Hello, 1 guest!
-
Will you be risking steak tartare and pommes Anna in the new year?
-
Actually, my friend Kathy served pommes Anna as part of her Christmas Eve feast. They were served with pork roast baked with pears, and the potatoes upstaged the meat.
-
Let's move on.
-
Five!
-
Page five? Really?
-
I watched a rather shallow forty-eight minute program about revenge porn sites, where jilted boyfriends put up nasty photos of their exes and people comment, anonymously, of course. It's disgusting, but it happens every day, which is why you kind of never want to take compromising photos or selfies even if you're not sharing them we all know these horrible people can hack computers and get them.
-
I ate a lot of tuna pasta salad, but nothing else, so hopefully that was okay. I've done nine pages so far and will now take a nice, hot shower and then write another one or two, then I can relax and listen to music. I think I will finish the chapter, which I think will end up being the longest first chapter I've ever written, but we'll see about that. And if I finish it, I will definitely write the first two or three lines of the next chapter.
-
The Place to Call Home binge watching continues. The busybody just got her comeuppance. It was delicious.
-
Good night, all.
-
Finished with my writing. Just under eleven pages. I finished the first chapter and wrote the first two paragraphs of chapter two.
-
Whew!
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
'night
-
Good evening!
-
Special vibes to DR Kerry!
-
Welcome back, Ron. Feel better soon.
-
Continued health vibes to Jrand and Chas.
-
Elmore, condolences on the loss of your friend.
-
Another cold night in the Northwest.
-
They expect temperatures to drop into the teens tonight.
-
And now the winds are expected to pick up, as well.
-
And a foggy day in London Town!
-
Sorry, the windchill will take us down into the teens.
-
Swell, the wind really is picking up.
-
I hope we don't lose power.
-
It's 28° or 29° in Tumwater right now (depending on the app that I use).
-
I hope we don't lose power.
Only at my work...I wouldn't mind that.
