Last night was an ordeal, poor sleep and lots of crazy dreams.  The strangest was a white trash nightmare in a holiday site warring neighbors, guns, violence, killings, and Vincent Gardenia. Then, I had this dream in which the song "Freddie My Love" from Grease would not stop running through my mind.

I like cheeseburgers a lot....but my favorite sandwich is a club sandwich....which I guess sometimes means different things at different restaurants.

My favorite club was one I got at a restaurant in an Indy hotel that has since closed, of course.  It was across the street from the Government Center where I worked for many years....and a favorite for lunch.

The worst club sandwich I ever had was at a restaurant in Broad Ripple, the ARTS DISTRICT of Indy....it seemed to be made from packaged meat, wilted lettuce, and some unknown cheese.....I sent it back and got a cheeseburger....which was at least better......

TOD:
My favorite sub sandwich place used to be in Venice, California and it was called Warner's, but it's long gone. There was something about their French rolls that were so fresh and wonderful. I like Jersey Mike's and Quiznos is good too. I usually get some type of BLT at those places. Costco has the best chicken salad which makes wonderful homemade sandwiches. I used to make sub sandwiches with dry salami, turkey, lettuce, tomato and mayo that were very good.

I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep - Apple will be calling shortly, meanwhile I'm on the phone with DirecTV telling them they either lower my bill or cancel the service.  This is another thing for this New Year.  They raised the rates in September without telling me.  Then I'll be calling another company and doing the same.

I am home and it wasn't bad at all. I took the nerve pill, which was mild. They also said they added nitrous oxide oxide, since my blood pressure was a little high. The procedure was nothing to even worry about.

TOD: I love a good ham and Swiss on rye with butter. Or a Vietnamese barn mi with plenty of daikon and cilantro in addition to the toasty roll and pork. When I was a kid, it was a fresh olive nut sandwich on Mom's homemade bread.

But I think the best sandwiches were various grilled cheese sandwiches I grilled outdoors. I used a baguette, tried different cheeses and additions. They were all fresh and hot and delicious.

Topic of the Day:  There isn't a specific kind of sandwich that I order over any other.  I usually vary what I get if I'm going to get some kind of sandwich.  Blimpie's and Quiznos used to be in the area, but they both closed.  At Subway, I more often than not get a Spicy Italian (http://www.subway.com/en-us/menunutrition/menu/product?ProductId=4272&MenuCategoryId=1) but with all pepperoni, and I add the marinara sauce from their meatballs and essentially get a pizza sub.  Delish!

Meconi's Italian Subs (http://www.meconissubs.com/) is a great, local sub shop that's just down the street from where I work.  Costco sold $50 gift cards for only $40 for them!  That's 20% off!  AND I have $2 off coupons for whole (foot-long) sandwiches, so it's a great double discount deal!

Another local restaurant here in Tumwater that I like is Pellegrino's Italian Kitchen (http://pellegrinositaliankitchen.com/).  They have a Monte Cristo sandwich that's WONDERFUL!  It's the only thing that I get when I go there.

Almost an hour dealing with DirecTV, most of that on hold.  I told them I was so annoyed at the hold time that they should just cancel the service.  He ultimately brought my price down by twenty dollars, so I agreed to stay with them for a year.  Then I'll reassess.

I know that Comcast has a Loyalties department.  If you've been a long-time customer, you can ask (and usually get) a discount because you've been a customer for so long.  I need to renew that for myself.

I went and had a Chinese chicken salad and a bagel, and picked up a couple of packages.  Due to all the phone stuff, I only got one page done before lunch, after the futzing and finessing.  I just wrote another and will keep on going and at least get six or seven done - the rest I can do tonight, but I definitely want to finish this chapter.

some companies call it a retention department. If you're ready to cancel, they will give you a better deal, more so than the standard customer service person.

As much as I like rain and cool weather I'm ready for it to dry up and warm up a bit. LA does not deal well with extended periods of rain or cold. We were lucky that our rain, which is forecasted to continue over the coming weeks, has been sporadic. Less flooding, easier to live with.

Avocado on veggie burgers is very good.  I discovered that in Ashland at a restaurant that made delicious bean burgers topped with avocado slices.  They called it an awesome burger and it was awesome.  Unfortunately the owners decided to retire.

Well, I'm off now.  Tonight will be the line-through for added Saturday performance of "The Physician in Spite of Himself."  We haven't been with each other since December 18, so hopefully everyone will still know their lines.  I've gone over mine a few times and so far, they're still there. :) Tomorrow, we'll have a full run-through, although I don't know if that'll include costumes or just the staging.  I'm sure I'll find out tonight.

Be back later.

Listening to the final Kurt Atterberg symphony, which is actually a huge thing for solo singers and chorus.  Not my favorite but the music is certainly lovely.

Back to the Lobster. Not liking it anymore today than yesterday. And violence against animals just isn't funny.

Today's high was 68, but with the wind, it never felt warmer than the low 50s. Tonight, the temperature drops much further. The high tomorrow will only be in the 30s and the low will be in the 20s.

Thankfully, a sweater I bought after Christmas arrived today. It's a superwarm cardigan. It will be put to good use.

I am enjoying Topaz. Very old-fashioned thriller. But some very effective scenes.

Another page and a half and I'll have done a bit over eleven pages.  Taking a short break.  I did take a shower, which gave me a little idea to expand that I'd written to add more detail and fun, so I did that.  Now I'll take a little music break, then continue at ten and hopefully be finished by ten-thirty.

I did lose a couple of hours to phone business - first Apple, then DirecTV, and then Amazon, who hadn't credited me with the two extra Prime months.  I got a nice lady and she fixed it so I'm good until April now.

Our read-through went well enough.  A few lines were called for, but nothing went horribly wrong.  I forgot to ask about wearing costumes for tomorrow night's full run-through, but I think it's safe to assume that we won't.
