Well, you've read the notes, the note futzed and finessed, and now it is time for you to post until the futzed and finessed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: WHIMSICAL!
-
First post after BK!
-
TCB I knew what you meant when mentioning you waited to read your book.
-
I am crashing, 'night.
-
Good night, Jane.
-
good morning to all
-
Good morning
-
Got a good nights sleep

I seem to actually have some voice this morning
-
Good morning, all.
-
Hmm. Not too many WORDS before mine this morning.
-
I seem to actually have some voice this morning
So that's where mine went.
I'm not sick or anything, but you wouldn't have known that from the sound of my voice this morning.
-
Coffee!
-
I'm looking forward to reading BK's book. And I'm not even trying to guess what it might be about.
-
So what's in store for today?
Mostly musical work for me, I think. I'm planting my ass on the keyboard bench and figuring out some things.
-
I also want to put on that Stokowski album BK listened to.
I think I have it. I HOPE I have it.
-
And for fun watching later, the next disc of Hammer House of Horrors is already out and waiting.
-
One long interesting dream, covering much of the usual ground while introducing new elements which I can't bring into focus enough to make sense of, even to myself.
-
Good morning.
-
I have to go for a recheck on the dental surgery. I hope he doesn't poke around much; it is still tender.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I was up too late reading The Cambridge Companion to Jane Austen. I slept really really well, though, and I am bathed, dressed, and ready to accomplish several things today.
-
This morning I will finish the first chorus of "Take Me Back To Manhattan" so I can show it to Rob Berman this afternoon, when I see him at City Center. At City Center, I will pick u my second payment and then head yo the bank.
-
DR JohnG, Season 4 has played in Australia, but it's not hitting the States util next month. The DVDEs will go in sale at the end of Feb.
-
TCB mentions Snoqualmie Pass. I have never been to the state of Washington, but that name will always and forever mean Twin Peaks to me.
-
Historical novels:
Ben-Hur
The Three Musketeers, still my fave!
Les Miserables
Notre Dame de Paris AKA The Hunchback of . . .
Forever by Pete Hamill
Time and Again
A Tale of Two Cities
Gone With the Wind
Vanity Fair
-
Good morning, all.
-
Thanks for the update on A Place, Elmore. I'll keep an eye out for the DVD at the library, which they post whenever they place the order.
-
I like most of Elmore's list, except for Gone With the Wind, which was too dual personality for me. Mitchell rips the South apart before the war, then misses the South after the war.
-
TOD:
War and Peace
In Search of Lost Time (at least the first four volumes)
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court
Romola by George Eliot
Death Comes for the Archbishop
Ragtime
I, Claudius and Claudius the God
-
Two!
-
Apparently Chris was the genius behind the bar, Jane, and the concept and the cocktail recipes, not the owner.
I received an email yesterday from the bar announcing that they are going to start having drag brunches. High hair high above the town.

The Robert Graves' novels about Claudius are two of my faves, as is Ragtime! How could I forget them? I also liked Mary Renault's The King Must Die and Robert Graves' historic novels, Hercules My Shipmate and King Jesus.

Also speaking of Proust, I've begun watching the BBC A Dance to the Music of Time, which seems to be Anthony Powell's attempt to write a Proustian epic.

I liked that miniseries. I started reading the novels but never got past the first three, collected in one volume.

Everything checked out fine. That's a relief.
-
Just in case anyone was worried.

Good. Continue to feel better!

I am happy that all is well, dearest DR Laura!

I preferred the movie.

Is it Chris then who is moving on?

I preferred the movie.
I think I preferred the book's more realistic treatment of Scarlett, who kills the soldier in cold blood. More fitting her personality, imo.

Yes. He'll do just fine.

I am sure he will.

What I liked was the movie cut out a number of her, to me, boring men/marriages.

As soon as it heals, I get to do it again on the other side.

Good news DR LAURA.

Continued vibes for MR BK.

Gone With The Wind
The Robe

That's always excellent news, DR Laura!

They weren't boring to me. They showed her opportunism, drive to survive over everyone's bodies, and her loss of humanity.
-
I figured that out rather quickly ;D
-
It was a surprise to wake up this morning and see green & blue again. It is very cheerful. The robins have returned, only a few though instead of the large numbers we had before the snow.
-
I'm up, I'm up - only about six hours of sleep and only because I woke up in the middle of the night and then couldn't fall back asleep for about ninety minutes or so, due to too much thinking.
-
LA is so weird. It poured from about midnight on - poured. I get up - the sun is out.
-
The city that couldn't make up its mind. And today was supposed to be a huge storm. Yeah.

GONE WITH THE WIND

Reportedly, actor Miguel Ferrer has died at age 61...from a heart attack.
Many sites were speculating about his death and wondering if it was rumor linked to the fate of his character on NCIS: Los Angeles, but confirming news stories are starting to appear.
-
I always enjoyed Miguel Ferrer. Did not know until I read Variety's obit that he started as a backup musician for his mom and Bing Crosby and recorded with Keith Moon of The Who.
-
Thursday afternoon greetings from Olympic Centennial Park in Atlanta! We're actually in the Embassy Suites and our room overlooks the park. We left Cleveland, TN, about 8:30 this morning and drove to my cousin's home in Carrollton, GA. We left our car there and my cousin's wife drove us into the city. He will pick us up Tuesday morning and, for what they're saving us in parking fees, I told them to pick out a really nice place for us to take them to lunch that day.

Opera star Roberta Peters died yesterday. she was a wonderful lady who should have received a Kennedy Center Honors. I worked on a holiday concert with her. She was a joy.
-
I did not know Miguel Ferrer, but I did know his brother Rafael in the early 1980s and a stepsister, whose name I have forgotten. I was lucky to work with Rosemary Clooney in 1988.
I am sorry to hear of his death

DR GINNY - Carrolton, GA. is where Miss Susan Hayward is buried.....he last husband lived there.
-
Oh no. Roberta Peters. Met her when she sang Gilda in a concert performance of Rigoletto at Meadowbrook in 1968, and was enchanted with her and her voice thereafter.
I especially love her on the RCA Soria Ariadne auf Naxos recording.
RIP, wonderful lady.
-
She always had that "magic", you know?
Just thought about it, and all four leads from that long ago night are gone: Jan Peerce, Roberta Peters, Cornell MacNeil, Ezio Flagello. I have a private recording of it and it's time to take it out. Did I do anything in that? No, there's no organ or anything. Maybe I hit a chime or something. Probably helped stage manage.

Hmm, I'll ask Perry and Pam if they know where...

Had a breakfast burrito and came right back home.
-
I went back and added a couple of things, and am about to add one more little thing and then I will continue on - I was trying to see about ending the chapter in what I thought was a natural place, but then I came up with a better way to end it and that will make it at least five to seven pages longer, which is what I really wanted and now I won't have to keep adding things.
-
Had the work session, which went well.
-
Good evening!
-
Finished working my three-day week. Monday was a Federal holiday and tomorrow is a holiday in the DC area.
-
Purchased my ticket for The New Yorkers: Mezzanine Left (but really looks center in the seating chart) H-114. Looking forward to the show and to seeing the other HHW folk!
-
Sorry about Miguel Ferrer.
-
And Roberta Peters.
-
Everything checked out fine. That's a relief.
Good to hear, DR Laura!
-
Nearly quittin' time.
I love quittin' time.
-
I'm thinking of seeing La La Land tomorrow.
-
I especially love her on the RCA Soria Ariadne auf Naxos recording.
That CD is out of print and selling for a fortune.
-
And now - writing.

Yes, thanks! Not that far from where they live.

I've done five pages. The day has simply gotten away from me, and I had to decide where to break the chapter, then I had to figure out how exactly to write the sequence I was in, which took a while and which I have no doubt I will futz and finesse quite a bit, but it was just important to get it down. So, I'll take a short break and then try to write at least three more pages, which should get me near the end of the chapter.
-
Page four? Really?
-
TOD:
Since 7th grade when the Palms Jr. High librarian gave me THE PRESIDENT'S LADY by Irving Stone to read I have loved historical fiction.
-
From Stone I continued on to the classics which are mostly historical novels.
Le Miserable
The Hunchback of Notre-Dame
The Count of Monte Cristo
Tale of Two Cities
War and Peace
Treasure Island
-
A couple from the 30's:
The Good Earth
Grapes of Wrath
-
The list goes on and on, I simply had to stop.
Winds of War plus the sequel War and Remembrance
The Killer Angels
Shaman
And Ladies of the Club
Spring Moon: A Novel of China
Dancing at the Rascal Fair
Women of the Silk
Water for Elephants
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet
The Book Thief
-
Seven pages and now I'll take at least an hour break before doing four to six more pages. What I'll try to do is finish the chapter and begin the final chapter, pre-shower, then write a page or two after that. For now, I think I'll relax to an SACD of Ravel, conducted by Pierre Boulez.
-
I hope all went well with TCB's surgery.
-
Still auditioning books. But the one that seems to be the favorite is "Mother Finds a Body," a mystery by Gypsy Rose Lee. And yes, Mother is Rose. Gypsy is the sleuth. It's short, it's light, it's funny.

If there are any magazine lovers on this site, the New York is available as one of the amazon deals of the day for $5 for 48 issues.

Gratuitous post No. 100.

A few cool days, tomorrow is supposed to get near 80 with some sun out there.
BK posted about how weird the LA weather was. I'm finding this whole winter odd. The biggest difference is not that the temperatures are warmer that usual, it's that the days are already much longer. I haven't felt the light deprivation as much this winter as I have before. It used to be dark when I left work. Today, I noticed that it was still light until about 6 p.m.

The one historical novel that I started but just couldn't get into was Wolf Hall. Never did finish it. I know others loved it, but ...

Starting to watch a historical movie, The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings. Rollicking fun.

I didn't love it but did finish it, but the writing style was so weird it was really a chore wading through to get to the underlying story
-
I believe I've done the eleven pages, and, of course, that doesn't take into account all the stuff I added or rewrote today. But in about forty-five minutes I'll shower, hopefully get inspired and write another couple of pages. But I'm half a page into the final chapter - it will be a long one so I have minimally three days of writing on this chapter.
-
I feel I have turned a corner and I am heading back to health

Spring Moon
The one I mentioned, by Betty Bao Lord?
-
Took the hot shower, then wrote an additional two pages - I've done twelve and I'm on the thirteenth. I'm taking a tiny break and then I'll try to finish thirteen and get onto fourteen, and that's fine for today.
-
Finished almost fourteen pages. Some good stuff, I think. As always with a new chapter, it took me a bit of time to get in the swing of it, so I rewrote the first page several times until I felt the rhythm was right. I suspect in about thirty pages from now I'll be done, but we'll see how it all unfolds. There's a few things to cover still, and then the final ten pages is all laid out and I just have to do it justice.

DR TCB should be recovering from his eye surgery.
-
Good evening!
-
The eye procedure went well.
-
The patient before me went out on a stretcher with several paramedics hovering around him.
-
Everyone seemed a little rattled, except for my doctor.
-
So, since he wasn't rattled, I wasn't rattled either.
