Well, you've read the notes, the notes finished the book and took seventeen minutes to read, and now it is time for you to post until the seventeen cows come home.

Yesterday it felt like Sunday, ALL DAY, until the evening when a couple of friends came over to eat and watch a couple of movies, and then - *poof* - finally it was a Saturday night.  Now this morning feels quite properly like a Sunday and I am finally back in sync with the calendar.

I didn't watch the movies the others were watching.  I retired to the inner sanctum and watched Topsy-Turvy for my second time ever.  I'd been blown away by it originally, but had saved my return to it for an evening which felt "just right", and I don't even know what led me to that part of the collection last night but it was indeed the most perfect time for it.  What an incredible achievement it is.  And now I'm thinking ... G&S binge ...

As far as I'm concerned, it's always time for a G&S binge!  I listened to a collection of the overtures yesterday, and Charles Mackerras' G&S ballet Pineapple Poll is really wonderful.

And there ar several good recordings!  The fun is in hearing a tune frm one of the operas transforming into a melody from another.  The opening begins with "The Mikado," and then moves into "Trial by Jury."

So, I'm going to replace the car battery tomorrow.  My records show this one is exactly seven years old this month, so it did really well.

I'll get another good high-performance battery, but I am shocked, shocked, to hear that the car place will charge $149 for the battery and $30 labor.  It was, like, half that seven years ago, and that was at a dealership.  Oy!

From DR George:
Quote
The recyclables are mostly from The Midnight Sun, TAO's performance space.  We have two blue tubs so one can be left at the space while I take the other one and put the recyclables in the bins at my condo complex.  I usually get home late at night, so I don't want to try and sort out non-recyclables in the dark, which means I don't always empty it quickly...but there are two bins, so it's not a great rush.

They would probably still be sitting in my trunk too ;D

Finished futzing and finessing.  I added a few things, removed a few things, smoothed out a LOT of things.  I ended up writing 200 plus more words and going one more page, but I realized that that's fine because of the way the Word document numbers itself - page one actually is on the title page, so it is still the right number of actual book pages.

Sunday afternoon greetings!  It's been an interesting weekend here in Atlanta, with the women's march yesterday, a marathon today, the Atlanta Falcons' playoff game right now, and more than 7000 librarians in town.  And all of this is happening in the same part of downtown.  Pretty exciting...

Printed out pages and took the to Staples.  Apparently as soon as we have a huge storm everyone in Studio City gets in their cars and goes to Staples.  I don't get it.  Jerry's?  Forget it.  No storm will keep Studio City from Jerry's on Sunday, NOTHING.
Title: Re: FINISHING THE BOOK 17

Got the pages Xeroxed - the nice man there noticed four pages were missing.  Now, this is the second time this has happened.  I click print, put in the exact page range, it tell me how many pages that is and then I click print again and it should print that exact page range.  Only it didn't - it left four pages in a row out.  Two weeks ago it left two pages out but those were arbitrary and didn't follow each other - why would it do that?  So, I had to run home, print out the four pages, run back, and I mean it is POURING out.  We got those Xeroxed and put where they needed to be.  I drove to Jerry's thinking maybe, just maybe, the entitled of Studio City would not go out on such a day as this, but noooooo - full parking lot.

Funnily, we have not heard one word from any of the folks who've been crying about our very long drought - wouldn't you think after these rains, which have been pretty regular this whole month, that they'd at least say "finally, the drought is on the mend."  But no, they don't want to say that, because that might just mean that the costs of water that have been rising into the stratosphere might not be justified any more, if they ever were.

Bruce, the snowcap in the Sierras was up to normal levels about a month ago. That's the primary measure of our water supply. However, not all areas of California have received enough rain. Santa Barbara is one of them. Northern California has received more than Southern California.

On April 1 the Powers That Be measure the snowcap and make an official pronouncement. Until then nothing is official.

The way it's going back and forth in time? It's not great. But Michelle Dockery and Charlotte Rampling are always wonderful to watch, so the present-day scenes have some interest, even if the World War II narrative is more interesting.

DR ELMORE there is a production of CHARLIE BROWN being done locally - in fact where MR BK's BRAINEX was produced - and all of the performers except one are just TOO old....it's scary to see the production photos.....but the Artistic Director wanted to do the title role, I guess, so he chose his friend to direct and of course his friend cast him......it's the same place that did PC SPELLING BEE and all the adults acted like they were "special needs" kids....

For example:

As the 3rd quarter of the Falcons' game started we walked up the street to Max's Pizza for dinner and a nice bottle of wine.  We stayed until the game ended and celebrated with the hometown crowd.  On our way back to the hotel we saw some dejected Green Bay fans, but figured the Atlanta fans were still at the stadium.  As fun as it was to be in a crowd during the game, I'm glad to be safe & sound in our room.  I think the streets of downtown are going to get wild tonight.

LOL!  You can go blind looking at that dress and hair bow.

And did they cover up her wrist tattoo for the show?  Hopefully, they forgot just for the picture.  I know that they're very popular now, but Charles Schultz's Lucy (or any of his characters) would NEVER have tattoos.

Last night we attended a private screening of the movie version of The Zookeeper's Wife, which will be released in March.  It's based on Diane Ackerman's book and there was a talk-back with her afterwards.  One of the coolest things I've ever done at an ALA conference.

Did you like the movie better than you liked the book?

That is because Culver City has normal people.  Studio City has entitled, spoiled twits who cannot stay home for more than two minutes.  They MUST go out, especially if it's raining cats and dogs.

If you weren't also one of those entitled people out and about you would not know they were out ;)

Good news. Still in the first half, but I think you'll enjoy it.

Thanks.

Let me know what you think when you've seen it all. I liked the underlying story, but had some problems with the structure.

Interesting.

DR Jane, it's been years since I listened to the book, so I only remembered the basic outline of the story.  The movie is beautiful, with Jessica Chastain as the title character.

Well, I need to be going now.  Tonight, I'm ushering for the tour of STOMP!  I saw them in NYC the one time I went there, and they've come to Olympia once or twice since, but it'll be great to see the show again.

Have a good rest of the evening, all!

DR CHAS SMITH - AutoZone seems to be the best place to buy a car battery - depending on the location, they may install it for free.

I'll keep them in mind. Thanks for mentioning that.

Another vote for autozone, reliable battery, free installation and free disposal of the old battery

Muse Margaret finished the book and I've had the call.  She had not one thing, not even a typo.  She said she got very emotional during the final thirty pages, and she truly loved the ending of the book.  And do you know what she said she loved most about it?  I'll tell you: It's positivity.  And the fact that there is not one curse word in the book, something I hadn't even realized until she mentioned it.  I could not be happier at this moment and tomorrow I will Xerox a few copies for proofers, including me.

Listening to Debussy and still trying to cultivate more of a liking for his music.  His orchestration is wonderful and he does conjure up a mood or two, but I much prefer Ravel and his supreme melodic genius.  But I'm trying.

We would have to win the state competition first.  Flying would probably be easier, but I imagine we would drive.
