Well, you've read the notes, the notes were bleary/blurry, and now it is time for you to post until the bleary/blurry cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OMPHALOSKEPSIS!
Smoke on your pipe and put that in.
-
First post after BK!
-
T.O.D.
WHAT'S UP DOC?
-
First in the morning and first after BK and TCB!
-
TOD: I'd say my favorite is WHAT'S UP DOC, too.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I keep thinking this is Friday. Well, it's not. It's Thursday. Maybe if I say it a few more times....
-
While clicking my heels together, of course...

TOD:
The Last Picture Show
What's Up, Doc?
Paper Moon
Targets
They All Laughed: I went to it the first time (Mann Westwood?) and was head over heels crazy about it. I dragged a friend to it. Watching it with my friend, I sat there wondering why it only seemed half as funny and romantically interesting as before. Thirty years later I tried it again, and could only view it with clinical interest, never once being swept up by it.
Texasville: I love that McMurtry wrote it for him to film, and having most of the cast of Picture Show involved years later is a rare treat. But I only read and saw it once about fifteen years ago, and need to return to it.
It's funny about Bogdanovich. The movies went south so fast, and yet I've always considered him one of my Hollywood heroes... of sorts.

I'll bet I'm the only one here who has made the pilgrimage to Archer City, Texas. :)
On one of my trips to my company's headquarters in Dallas while still gainfully employed, I took a day to drive the three hours up there to visit Larry McMurtry's (then)-four bookstores. I bought just a few things, and didn't get to run into Larry, but being there was a wonderful and otherworldly experience. I must dig out my photographic evidence.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I hope it's the weather because I'm sleeping poorly and nothing seems to be helping this leg these days.
-
I will spend a lot of the morning doing laundry. i need to wash all the towels in the bathroom that got covered in dust from the work on the ceiling this week.
-
I'm waiting on assignments from Rob Berman, so I can work on Guys & Dolls today. I've promised to turn over a lot of Act One to my collaborator Jason next week.
-
DR TCB, I hope you can resolve your computer issues today.
-
DR vixmom, I am sorry to hear bad news about the implants. A mutual friend of mine and DR Ginny had implant work in the mid-1970s and they were wonderful., I even went to see her dentist in Dayton, but the cost was more than I could afford at the time.
-
Laundry!
And coffee.
-
Well, since I checked my email 30 minutes ago, Rob has sent me the entire "Great Indoors" number. It looks good.
-
Hmm . . . No posts in an hour?
-
I've mopped the bathroom and kitchen, and everything's in the washers. I need a nap.

I'm getting exhausted just from knowing how hard you've worked so far today. You've earned that nap.

I have. It was a great experience.

My friend Hillary came to town and we drove up to Archer City for a day of used book shopping. In the third store, there was McMurtry shelving books. There had been signs everywhere saying don't ask for autographs and he gave me a withering look when I noticed him, but I still asked him if he had any books by Zora Neale Hurston and Dawn Powell. He became more polite at that point, answered the question by pointing me in the direction of each and went back to work.
-
We then went to the Archer City Dairy Queen, which he wrote about so well in Texasville. It was a monument to McMurtry, perhaps the only DQ devoted to the works of a writer.

At Long Last Love
I do enjoy parts of Daisy Miller, They All Laughed and Texasville.

Don't ask me for my autograph! Move on!
-
Continued vibes for DR GEORGE.
Last night DR JANE was in bed with George Clooney and Julia Roberts. I expect them to talk about it on TMZ today.
-
DR JohnG, I disagree with you about the Garland footage of Annie Get Your Gun. I think she's dreadful because we all know she's too intelligent to play the role. The best Annies for the musical are performers not necessarily known for their intelligence.
I thought Betty Hutton was a good choice, but the film is not very good, and a lot of those MGM orchestrations sound wrong to me, as though someone thinking he or she was smarter than Irving Berlin decided to re-harmonize the songs.
-
Apparently some people brought in multiple copies of all of McMurtry's 50+ books and expected him to sign them. They would then turn around and sell them at competing businesses.
-
Two!
-
Get the teeth right this time vibes for DR VIXMOM.
This reminds me of a story....I keep thinking it was in Portnoy's Complaint, but I don't know why it would be.
There was a baseball team called the Indianapolis Clowns soon after WW I. One of their outfielders only had one arm. So when he got the ball, he had to stuff it in his mouth, shake his glove off, and throw it in. He was so afraid he would drop the ball, that he really jammed it in his mouth. Sometimes he couldn't get it out. The other outfielders would have to run to him, throw him to the ground, and get the ball out of his mouth....
At the end of the season, the coach said: "It wasn't our lousy hitting that beat us this season, it wasn't our terrible pitching, it wasn't even our slow running. What beat us is all of those inside-the-mouth grand slam home runs."
-
Jane, Betty Hutton did do her own singing but the vocal track was recorded ahead and she had to lip sync to herself on film.
-
Dental vibes for Vixmom.
-
Elmore, you may be right about Garland being too smart, but I found Hutton too dumb in the role. Annie's illiterate and even ignorant, not stupid.

Thursday morning greetings! The title of today's notes describes my life over the past several weeks, but things are settling down. Today I completed the course of eye drops for my right eye and have just a week to go for my left. A week from tomorrow I see the eye doctor for a refraction.
-
DR Vixmom, I'm sorry the implants are not cooperating. That was an option presented to my Mom in 2003, but she didn't think she'd live long enough to justify spending the money.
-

I suspected you had been there.

Great story, DR John G.
Fortunately, I had read about his views on autographs, so even if he had been in the stores that day I would at least have left town in one piece.
I went to the Dairy Queen, too, for lunch, having just read Walter Benjamin at the Dairy Queen: Reflections on Sixty and Beyond. He wasn't in there, either, but some locals were and I kept myself as invisible as possible by NOT ordering a Lime Dr. Pepper. Most enjoyable, all around.
-
I'm sorry to hear that vixmom must go to Florida without the completed teeth. But I'm glad it's not happening the other way around, with the teeth going to Florida and vixmom being sent back to the lab.

I wish I had not fallen asleep before reading DR TCB 's super funny comment.

Thanks for explaining.

I loved Walter Benjamin at the DQ. One of my favorites of his.

Good morning, Laura.
-
Today's muffin flavor: sweet potato and pecan
I will be glad when I can eat more solid things.
-
I mean, I'm sure I probably can, but it is easier to eat soft things.
-
Yesterday I took Kerry some lemon muffins.

On the other hand, she can walk around with a great big smile and fit right in!!!

IMO, the Garland footage looks far better than the eventual production starring Hutton. It looks as if the property was re-thought and minimized downward.

Hello, everybody.
Happy Thursday!

TOD:
I've never really been a fan of Peter Bogdanovich. But, the films I like best are:
THE LAST PICTURE SHOW
NOISES OFF
THE CAT'S MEOW
-
I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep. Sun is shining.
-
Saw six potential book cover designs just now, none of which are right, but it was good to see them because it helped me really focus on what the book really is and what it isn't. I think that will help him come up with something that feels really good. It took quite a while to get Patrick Bronstein Presents right, so I'm sure this will, too.
-
Last night i read the libretto for Backbeard, the musical I've been asked to do at NYMF. it's very funny' the pirates are essentially naughty children, played by adults, and its very silly
-
The laundry is finished and I am workig at my desk today.
-
!!! 3 !!!
-
Heard of a new robotic product called Laundroid. It washes, dries and fold your laundry. For about $20,000.
-
Very busy work day again. And I'd like a nap.

Yes, sounds great! Let us know how well it works!

Health vibes to George!

Health vibes to George!
Thanks, Fred!
-
Back from a haircut, then the same meal I had yesterday - mac-and-cheese, side of bacon, bagel. But no snacks tonight.
-
Are you feeling any better today, George?
-
Will this work day never end?
Suffering along with you.
-
Are you feeling any better today, George?
Yes, thanks. It's still lingering, but I don't have a headache, so that's definitely an improvement.
-
We're about to have cake for someone who is leaving us for a new job.

Not having a headache is always an improvement.
-
What kind of cake?
-
Rehearsal in about ten minutes. Tried to do these current fixes pre-rehearsal, but Muse Margaret, who was supposed to call back about a half hour ago, is probably still out and about.

Here are some photos from the first production of Backbeard in Albany.

Hello!

TOD: What's Up, Doc? (surprise!)
Paper Moon

I believe those are the only Bogdanovich movies I've ever seen.

WHAT'S UP DOC, which I loved :)
THE LAST PICTURE SHOW
-
FOUR!!
-
And now, I'm leaving work. I'm not going directly home because I have to do some shopping, then go to TAO's performing space and meet someone there to write a check for something...I forget exactly what. Then, I'll go home.
Be back later.
-
DR JANE both of those look much more complicated than just folding the clothes yourself....although entertaining!
DR ELMORE those pictures made me smile....it looks like a terrific show!
-
ALLEGIANCE is back by popular demand.
http://allegiancemusical.com/article/allegiance-film-encore/#TTvTZWG2rjsXOi1d.97
-
I hope DR TCB got his software fixed today.
-
DR Jrand you wouldn't want a folding machine, I am shocked ;)

It really does look like fun.
-
I just remembered Bogdanovich's worst effort: His singing with Cybill Shepherd on Cybill Does It ... to Cole Porter.
Even his acting on the Sopranos was better than his singing.
-
Long rehearsal is done. Had one of our kids drop out due to a TV thing she's involved in, so I really had to scramble today to figure out how to replace her and to assign her two songs. One of the songs I hate anyway, so that one's gone and I replaced it with something I love. In the end, I gave two of our gals the chance to do a second song and that's worked out fine.
-
Having not eaten since one, I am a bit hungry - just don't want much, but the what is the question. I could go have a nice hot cup of tomato bisque at Jerry's, I suppose.
-
Gratuitous post No. 100.
-
The temperatures have dropped into the 40s and will likely get into the 30s tonight.
-
It's all because tomorrow morning is the Cowboy Breakfast, which generally happens on one of the coldest mornings of the year.
-
And still tens of thousands will show up for at 5 a.m. for a free taco or two.
-
Watching an episode of Hullabaloo that Sammy Davis Jr. is hosting. I don't think I've ever seen the show before.
-
Donna McKechnie is very easy to spot.
-
Lola Falana seems to be making her TV debut. She's dynamite.
-
Hello, 1 guest!
-
Have any of you ever been to Archer City, Texas?
-
Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans?
-
Do you think that what happens in Vegas really stays in Vegas?
-
Does anybody in Paducah know the song "Paducah" from "The Gang's All Here"?
-
I'm fading fast.
-
Good night, all.
-
I'm home and have watched half an episode of "Antiques Roadshow" and the winter finale of "This Is Us."
-
Now I'm watching the December 6th episode of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
-
After that, I still have the next 3 episodes of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D," 3 each of "Colony" and "This Is Us," and 1 of "Grey's Anatomy."
-
We watched GENIUS tonight and I realized that I have never read a Thomas Wolf novel, something I should have done when I preferred long novels.
Any suggestions on which one I should read?
-

Sorry, I can't help you. I've never read a Thomas Wolf novel, either.
-
Muse Margaret called after rehearsal had begun and then she couldn't do anything tonight and she can't do anything tomorrow, so final corrections won't happen until Saturday, which means proofers won't get it until Sunday.
-
I did go to Gelson's and got a few different little snacks - a bit of potato salad, two shrimp skewers (no real calories there), a bit of seafood salad and it was all deelish.
-
Page five? Really?
-
Good evening!
-
Happy
Friday Thursday!
-
I did not call about my Speak and Spell today.
-
I did not sleep well last night, and I woke with a deadly cough.
-
Do you think that what happens in Vegas really stays in Vegas?
Except the STD's.
-
I napped on and off all day today.
-
Tonight I may actually rub my chest with Vick's.
-
It works better when mommy rubs it on your chest for you.
-
I need to switch computers.
-
I have now switched computers.
-
No one even noticed.
-
Tonight I could use that codeine cough syrup.
-
Naturally, my doctor doesn't work on Friday.
-
I am feeling very lonely.
-
People come and people go.
-
I watched episodes of last season's SUPERGIRL today.
-
Mindless entertainment, but enjoyable.
-
I had better start thinking about what DVDs to watch this weekend.
-
Disney is certainly pumping out the TV ads for BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
-
Perhaps I will watch the cartoon version this weekend.
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?

Hello, 1 Guest!

I fell asleep for a bit while watching "Grey's Anatomy." ::)

I am right here.

Is it tomorrow morning that The Vixes leave for Florida?
-
Well, this is interesting. I'm watching tonight's (repeat) Stephen Colbert episode, and he mentioned an article about the author of "Goodnight Moon," Margaret Wise Brown: ‘Goodnight Moon’ author was a bisexual rebel who didn’t like kids (http://nypost.com/2017/01/07/goodnight-moon-author-was-a-bisexual-rebel-who-hated-kids/)!
:o
-
Well, I'm not going to last much longer, so I need to go to sleep now.
Good night, Tom.
-
Have a good day, all!
-
I am going to try and get some sleep.
