Which part did Dickens play?
Before I forget (again), I want to thank my two cyber children, Ann and Jed, for their kind and extremely biased comments about my performance in SCROOGE.
Seriously: The entire Carly Simon album "Torch".Ditto! (One of the discs der B and I played on our eastward trek last year, and every song a gem.)
Yes I know that Marshall Baer has past. I believe it was around the time of the Broadway revival of Once Upon a Matress. From what I read he was a very particular kind of man. And didn't like his songs recorded. He held up the release of the Mad Show for a long time and I am sure that they are only releasing it now because the rights are now available. I am not sure of the reason behind him pulling the release of Ben Bagley's tribute album.
...I believe you're heading toward Empyrean heights!
Confidential to DR DiT: I know we add days to Jewish holidays here in America, but is Chanukah NINE days in Canada?? ;)
Again, I really wish I could have been there especially since Sal and Liz showed up - I haven't seen them in years either!
A lovely time was indeed had by the missus and myself at the reading...
In anticipation of MORE photos from the signing - I will skip the Allison Hayes picture of the week today.
(thus speaketh the Orthodox Jew who has never eaten a ham chunk, with or without cheese, in his life).

Yes, BK, there's a tiny little bookstore in the Hawthorne district called And true yet unbelievable yarmulke story. The local newsreader on the Portland NPR station once pronounced it phonetically--"yar--mulk". We were in hysterics.
Finally, I think I got my new proflie pic to work. I figured as long as TCB was making a switch...Great new picture, Ann!

I have just had two very BAD experiences with Amazon.com MarketPlace sellers - so DR's if you are considering buying from them, please check the feedback carefully.
My mom thinks I'm a spoiled brat. But one interesting thing she said was that if it had been clothes that we wore outside, that she would never have done it (so at least she gets my point).
Need more data. Which of the following do you and your sister share"
A. Residence
B. Bed Room
C. Laundry Machine
D. Non-Gentleman callers
der Soloman-in-training Brucer
CHICAGO (Dec. 7) -- A stubborn fire raged for 5 1/2 hours on the 29th floor of a historic downtown skyscraper,
E. None of the above, which was my mom's point. She thought that since we'd never see each other in them, that it didn't count as clothes. :)
The Genial Host, Dan Finton:Dan and (BK will have to supply the shop's proprietress' name in this blank, which my mind has gone: _____________) were wonderful hosts. They are also both wonderfully knowledgeable about their subject: while chatting with them, she-whose-name-I-egregiously-didn't-write-down was asked by another customer about an author, and almost before he finished his question she was leading him to where he could find the books for his answer. Since we already own a copy of Writer's Block, I decided that buying something would be a practical way of saying thank-you and selected a couple of volumes by Lindsey Davis; s-w-n-I-e-d-w-d picked up a reference volume, to make sure I'd found Davis' first two books, immediately catching the pattern in what I'd placed before her. That's knowledgable! And it's all dished up with a happy garnish of good humor and graciousness.

Responding to a query about: "Murder On The Stage" - (or, How Three-Named Composer/Lyricists Destroyed the Modern Muscial) by Noel Katz
Our hostess's name is Elizabeth.Thank-you! I knew I should have written it down.
Ann, nice new avatar-very sultry.
(Don't take this as a harsh comment, BK, as women are supposed to look younger than the men around them. Which these two women indeed do!)
Thanks for the Grammy nominations for show album. I'll be predicting WICKED as the eventual winner.
I think PennyO, Jane and I have aged remarkably well, like fine cheddar cheese surrounded by ham chunks.
Maybe someone could volunteer to travel with BB and act as a surrogate dog.
A further note on the gathering last night: chatting with Sexiest Man in the World Brent Barrett, he admitted to me that his current travelling schedule doesn't allow him to have a dog. Sad, but absolutely correct, as it would be wrong for them both to be separated so frequently. A dog (or any pet) is supposed to be a companion, not a fashion accessory.
At the same time, dammit, Brent needs a dog! He is so obviously a dog person, and would shower the canine with affection and get same in return.
We need to set up a committee, to find out what his schedule is and make sure there is a dog everywhere he goes, to give him puppy love even if it's on a loaner basis.
Unless it turns out he has allergies that he didn't mention, and wouldn't because, after all, being sexy includes never being rude.
This requires more research.
Wow--do the Dans on here know how to coordinate Birthday wishes or what?
I dearly wish I had been able to see and hear our very own BK reading, and of course it pains me greatly not to have been able to bow and scrape in front of the Sexiest Man Alive, although I trust that those who were in attendance bowed and scraped in my stead.
And I would like to thank DR Elmore for his wonderful "Christmas Card"! We listened to the CD on our trip home, and found it all wonderful.
Speaking of The World's Sexiest Man Alive (a.k.a. Brent Barrett), someone a couple of weeks ago (maybe) said that he was married to someone who had sung on one of BK's CDs, either Lost in Boston or Unsung Musicals. I would like to know to whom is he married, so I will ask: "To whom is he married?" Anyone know??
Favorite Torch song:
"Skylark" -- I don't think I've ever heard anyone do this song badly, which is strange because I think it's a difficult song to perform. My favorite rendition is probably kd lang's on the Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil soundtrack.
My most favorite version of this song is by Bette Midler. It was actually the first version that I ever heard of the song...well, that I took notice and remembered. ::)
Torch songs. I agree with so many of the choices. I think Jerry Herman gave us two of the best - "Time Heals Everything," as Ginny mentioned. And "If He Walked Into My Life" (Eydie Gorme) - that is, before Dan (the Man) gave us his version.
Jim Dial is married to Vera?
The mind boggles....
Midler's version was my introduction to the song, too. She comes a close second to kd lang.
I just requested a copy of the soundtrack to "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" so that I could hear k.d. lang's version of Skylark. There is only one copy in the entire 27-branch library district and two people are already in the holds list to get it...one was added in June and the other in July! It'll be a while before I get to hear this version. ::)
Do they have the DVD???
Check that one out, if they do.

Good day, one and all![/b] [/font]
Great photo, Ann. I am glad that everybody at this site likes my new avatar, because it may have cost me a role in a TV documentary. The producer called and said he was very impressed with my resume, but that he was really looking for an actor who was old enough to play a grandfather. Damn that transporter of Danise’s, and that aging avatar of me up in the attic.
Finally got my second order from the big DeepdiscountDVD buying fest, so now I have quite a number of new DVDs to watch...not that I didn't already have close to 100 unwatched DVDs, already! It is the thrill of the hunt and buy, I guess ::)
Beg pardon. I missed what the transporter had to do with it? ???
Congrats to William F. Orr on achieving Godhood! Woo Hoo!
Nice picture, Ann! What kind of phone do you have? I wish I would have waited to get a photo phone. Then again, Christmas is coming and I’ve been a very good girl……..
Nah! It's a well-known fact that a man is more attractive the older that he grows. He's like a late October rose. He's noticed everywhere he goes.
Oh, yes, Paige O'Hara and Michael Piontek.
Lovely pictures, Der B. Will we get some pictures of the dinner party, too?
Their mothers should all be proud!

Ann, do your Sugar Gliders steal jewelry like my son’s do?
Sugar Gliders have become popular pets in the United States, and anyone who has ever seen one can easily tell you why. Besides being intelligent, playful and inquisitive, they are just darn cute. They also don't smell bad (if their diet is correct), don't have fleas, don't need shots, are relatively inexpensive to keep, and having one in your pocket is a sure-fire way to meet people and make new friends!
DRGeorge, BB is not married.
Who's That? Well, Now He's the Star

Peel Me a Grape by Blossom Dearie...is this considered a torch song?
No, it's not. A torch song involves some amount of heartbreak, someone pining over a love gone wrong, or "carrying a torch" meaning still loving someone who's no longer loving you. Peel Me a Grape and Love Changes Everything have none of these elements.
SWW, I tried to send you a PM, but your mailbox is full!So noted. I've dumped some of the older mail.
I may have been the first piano bar pianist to have played and sung Love Changes Everything in New York. I enjoyed banging the piano, because, towards the end, there's a stress mark over every note, with the loudness marking of fff which, for those who don't read music, means "louder than you can possibly play it." That Andrew Lloyd Webber fellow was never one for subtlety.Don't be silly, if you didn't break every finger you couldn't have been playing it properly.
After I thought about it (but didn't correct myself), I realized that most of the torch songs that I could think of were sultry and "Peel Me a Grape" is pretty sultry, so that's what was confusing me. At least...that's my story and I'm sticking too it! ;)Sultry, as in humid? That's one juicy grape!
"Halleluljah Baby" and Auditions for "Big River". Jose is not here to answer!
DR Jose -- you just began rehearsals, and the show opens on Friday??? Amazing!!
DR DERBRUCER - Thank you so much for posting the pics of the gathering. As long as your ears burned every time your name was mentioned. And it was, several times!
