I loved Wolfe's Look Homeward, Angel, but that was enough. I think Ketti Frings' wonderful play makes dramatic order from a chaotic novel.

What DR Elmore is too modest to tell you is that he directed a wonderful production of the play here in Middletown in 1976. He let me play Helen Gant, in the center in the apron:

Jane, carve out a lot of time if you want to read Thomas Wolfe. I don't think he ever met a paragraph he couldn't lengthen. Often unnecessarily.
If I remember correctly, I read Look Homeward Angel, Of Time and the River and You Can't Go Home Again, all back when I was a lot younger. By the third, I had had enough.
Then again, I never thought I'd adjust to Proust's page-long sentences and 12-page paragraphs.

Do you want to know what my answer was?
I remember there was a TV adaptation of Look Homeward, Angel from the early 1970s, but I can't remember much about it.

I keep hoping it will turn up on DVD: Geraldine Page as Eliza Gant, E.G. Marshall as W.O. Gant, Timothy Bottoms as Eugene Gant (Thomas Wolfe), James Naughton as Ben Gant, Nancy Marchand as Madame Eliabeth, Doris Roberts as Fatty Pert.

Today is my uncle's funeral, so we are getting ready for that. Being retired, it is strange having an obligation on a weekday.
But that's okay. Since I lost weight, I have more of a choice of suits to wear....perhaps I shall find one I haven't worn in a awhile and give it a chance to be seen.
I could use some vibes today. Will fill you all in in a few days.

It is a great picture, Ginny.
I agree with Elmore. The play was more enjoyable than the novel, largely because it was streamlined and more focused.

Too bad they couldn't get a good cast. ;)
Great photo, DR Ginny!
Well, more bad news today, thanks to my brothers. Randy and Macbeth are no longer on good terms -the Macbeths have that talent - so he and I are trying to sell that damed property. what I could have sold for $675,000 in 2007, against the greedy wishes of Macbeth who se overpricing resulted in its never selling, is worth at this moment $75,000, if we're lucky. I'm so glad my brothers managed to really fuck up our inheritance and furious that my dad did not leep the property in the estate. I could have sold it in 2007 since I was the executor.
Well, we done won us a Robby Award - finally!!! The Kritzerland show of Flaherty and Ahrens music. Very happy to finally have a Robby. I am now the winner of a Scenie, an Eddon, a Robby, and a Mac - I'm a SERM, how many people can say THAT? Forget EGOTs, baby, I am a SERM.(http://img10.glitterfy.com/graphics/182/congrats_ballon.gif)
Aiden Turner's hair is still worth worship and praise.
I just watched FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS.
