I had a good time at City Center yesterday.  Joshie and I played with some chords and modulations to new keys and we had a meeting with Rob on where things stand with the Feb. 23 band reading.  A large chunk of the show is now finished, but two numbers are waiting on casting.

When I return from the barber, I'll finish the chart I'm working on.  I promised Joshie that I would turn it in tomorrow.  I hope that my copyists will gave some things for me to proofread tomorrow.

The problem with these time travel TV series is that they don't seem to go anywhere.

We're watching TIMELESS, and although it's fun visiting the various periods in time, the basic story about "Rittenhouse" and the stolen 2nd time machine is getting old.  It's time to wrap them up.  If that doesn't happen by the end of this season, I will not be watching Season 2.   If there is a Season 2.

Enticing TV show premises soon stale when, beyond the pilot or few few episodes, the writers' imaginations simply hit rock bottom.

There is a series called "Beyond" that was interesting for a while.  Now it plods and plods and plods.

Some interesting points and insights, but his Middletown is not the city where i grew up. I was there when it flourished. He was there during its rapid decline following the Armco move of its general offices..

I would have been home thirty minutes earlier if the goddamned MTA followed their posted bus schedules.  i just missed the bus when I lefty the barber, and I  then waited 30 minutes for another.  According to the posted schedule, there should have been one every 10 minutes.  Fat chance.

In the 1950s, we were taught that Middletown was the best of all possible worlds ands Armco the best of all possible employers.

That was the still the mindset when I moved here in 1973 and it blinded a lot of people to what needed to be done to progress into the 21st century - like becoming a great bedroom community for Cincinnati and Dayton.  The housing stock would still make that possible but so much infrastructure has deteriorated (schools, streets, etc.) that it's a hard sell.

Yes, the Armco/AK headquarters move was a huge brain drain, but the mill is still operational and the company is about to open their new research facility out by the hospital (and DR Elmore's property).

Right after lunch I reluctantly headed out to do my errands and didn't get far before suspecting a flat tire.  Sure enough, so I called Richard who came with Rob intending to put on the spare.  We couldn't figure out how to get to the spare, so Richard called AAA.  While he was still on the phone, Rob got to the spare, but Richard decided to let AAA handle it.  He sent Rob and me home and he's probably at Dempster's by now.  Wonder how many new tires I'll end up with today...

For your edification:

"The Roman month Februarius was named after the Latin term februum, which means purification, via the purification ritual Februa held on February 15 (full moon) in the old lunar Roman calendar. January and February were the last two months to be added to the Roman calendar, since the Romans originally considered winter a monthless period. They were added by Numa Pompilius about 713 BC. February remained the last month of the calendar year until the time of the decemvirs (c. 450 BC), when it became the second month. At certain intervals February was truncated to 23 or 24 days, and a 27-day intercalary month, Intercalaris, was inserted immediately after February to realign the year with the seasons."

Not really political, but since the Statue of Liberty has been in the news so much lately, I put Skip's song "Lady in the Harbor" on the blog for his music and stuff.

Skip's song "Lady in the Harbor" - performed by Laura Benanti, Brian d'Arcy James and co.

[Update:  From what I'm reading, I guess the videos on blogspot need Flash on your computer in order to view and listen.]

I haven't been sitting here like so much fish.  Richard called to tell me that the tire place can't work on my car until tomorrow, so he'd walked to the library and could I pick him up.  From there we went to Kroger to do a few of the errands I'd set out earlier to do and now we're home.

Relaxing until stumble-through - got an e-mail this morning from a mom saying daughter is under the weather but they'll try to be here - I told them to try hard.  I believe "under the weather" is a euphemism for you-know-what.

I'm sure it's all her fault.

You know, you could be right.

The sky today has been uniformly grey.  No rain, though.

And the air quality is very poor.  Lots of smog, apparently.

We are having a spare-the-air day.

One of my co-workers is SUCH a slave to fashion.  She wears a pair of shoes that have metal-tipped tassels that flop against the hard leather of her shoes when she walks.

She's quite noisy in them.

Every once is awhile text messages go to Keith's iPad instead of his android phone.  It is very annoying.  Fortunately he saw a message that was intended for me.  The concern is we might miss an important message....again.  He only uses his iPad at the gym and we don't travel with it.
