Well, you've read the notes, the notes were designed, and now it is time for you to post until the designed cows come home.

Finished proofing - forty-four little things - much less than usual - I mean tiny bad breaks and a couple of missed quote marks, etc.  Really shouldn't take more than an hour to do those, then we'll have an hour to try some things with the chapter headings and titles.  I also have to figure out the dedication - I think I have a fun idea.  And now, to bed.

I had a whopper of a dream involving a production of Jacques Brel is Alive and well . . . and The Drama Book Shop, with guest appearances by Arthur Seelen, the book shop owner who hired me in 1979, and my first Manhattan roommate, Melanie Carville, stepdaughter of actor Jack MacGowran, who died after filming The Exorcist.  Melanie died far too young from a brain tumor around 1990, and Arthur died in 2000.

Our so-called president and every executive action he makes terrifies me. As my ancestor Abraham Lincoln supposedly said, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

I cannot wait to see Alec Baldwin try to top the absurdity of yesterday's endless rant that the so-called president calls a "press conference."  I hear the conservative party's answer to Moby Dick, Rush Limbaugh, praised it. The defense rests.

An em-dash is the longest of the dashes between words and was so named because it take up the space of the fat letter "m". It is sometimes marked with two hyphens--when it's not available. There is also an en-dash (takes the space of a letter "n") and, of course, the hyphen.

There are varying rules as to when you use each.

There must be something in the air causing people's dream activity to pick up, because I, too, had a more "normal" set of dreams which included people and situations from my distant past as well as some intriguing stuff manufactured out of whole cloth.

It's a bit of a sad anniversary because on this day last year we were saying goodbye to one of the most beautiful, intelligent, and loving cats ever.  She had an impact on all of our lives.  I was playing an opening night Spelling Bee at the same venue I'll be playing La Cage aux Folles starting next week.

I can't say I know the rules, but I use em-dashes all the time in everyday writing of notes and posting and whatnot.  They create an easy "break" in a sentence that (for me) adds clarity in a mishegas of commas, parentheses, and ellipses.

Did anybody watch the opening episode of DOUBT the other night?

I liked it, but I thought the background music was way overdone.  Indeed, it was so intrusive that, at moments,  we had trouble hearing the dialogue.

I'm wondering if they had em-dashes in Marcel Proust's day.

I guess I could pick up my next volume (famous last words) and find out.  Although, how would I know if they were put there by the translators in the course of reconstructing and clarifying those two-page long sentences?

There are a handful of paragraphs in this book consisting of one sentence and I'm very proud of them.  I am the king of the em dashes - I began weaning myself off them two books ago and I always brag to Grant that the current book has many less of them - but then he points out that we still have over 100, perhaps more, so there you are.  I like them a lot.

Friday afternoon greetings!  Yesterday was an eventful bathroom remodeling day that did not end well.  On the upside, the shower is almost complete.  But, we learned late in the afternoon that the flooring had not been ordered and, thus, would not be installed today.  They agreed to come back today to reseat the toilet (on the subfloor) so that we have a functioning bathroom for the weekend.  Andy, the site supervisor was here this morning to apologize and to tell us that our project was the main agenda item during today's sales meeting.

MR BK the Dream-O-Matic 6000 says that your dream indicates that are considering a change in a relationship with someone close to you OR said relationship has already moved to another level - that the person in the bed is Uma Thurman also indicates that you have recently come in contact with or have come to believe that certain people have achieved their current fame or notoriety without the benefit of real talent, but instead through family or money connections....

With all this toilet talk, there was a strange story in my morning listening to Fannie Flagg's The Whole Town's Talking. One woman knew she would always die funny. And she does. The toilet that her husband had repaired by a cheapskate plumber explodes when she flushes it. Her head shot through the ceiling, which killed her instantly.

DR JOHN G a local dentist in my area was having trouble with his plumbing and couldn't get anybody to fix it correctly.  Finally he got mad and dropped a small explosive in the septic tank.

Unfortunately for her, his wife was sitting on the convenience.  The explosive blew the contents of the septic tank into the house - knocked the wife off the commode and coated her and the bathroom walls with the contents.  She divorced him shortly after the event.

After a lovely afternoon walk we went for an early dinner.  Not having eaten much all day I was very hungry.  We returned home as the sun was setting.  I walked in one door, grabbed my keys, phone, and a coat and walked out the back.

Well, I'm off to my parents' house, then I'm going to the theater for the opening night of Playhouse Creatures.

Be back later.

Dinner at the parents' was good...vegetarian chili.  I couldn't stay to play Phase 10, but I knew that that would be the case.

Our sunshine and break from the rain is heavenly.  It is 55 degrees.

What a coinkydink!  It's 55° in Tumwater, too!

;)

LOL  Do you also expect more rain tomorrow?

Yes, but I don't know how much.

One day of rain, and certainly not the hardest rain we've ever had even though everyone is behaving like that, and the entire Valley falls apart.  Apparently on Laurel Canyon to cars fell into a huge sinkhole.  One story said it was south of Ventura, one said at Moorpark - the usual idiots not knowing where something happened and scaring everyone.  When I came home and looked down Moorpark towards Ventura I certainly saw now barricades and if something like that had happened there would be.  Reminds me of the guy who got hit by a car, reported at Moorpark and Laurel when it fact it happened two miles west of there.
