Well, you've read the notes, the notes were warm and cozy as well as home-cooked, and now it is time for you to post until the warm and cozy, home-cooked cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PROTEAN!
-
First post after BK!
-
BK, it looks like you have another big rainstorm coming in on Sunday.
-
Gratuitous Post #4!
;)
-
George, how did you find that MEMPHIS post so quickly?
-
Do you have an afternoon performance on Oscar Sunday?
-
George, how did you find that MEMPHIS post so quickly?
I searched "Memphis" in an advanced search, and specified me as the user, then sorted by "Most recent topics first."
-
Do you have an afternoon performance on Oscar Sunday?
Yes, at 2:30 pm, so I won't get home before 5:00...probably closer to 5:30. No matinee this Sunday, though.
-
I can't remember if they replay the Oscars immediately following the broadcast.

I can't remember if they replay the Oscars immediately following the broadcast.
I would doubt it...but I don't know. I hadn't even heard what channel it's going to be on.

ABC.

ABC.
Thanks.
-
Well, starting today for the next three days, I need to eat a low-fiber diet because on Tuesday, I'm getting a colonoscopy. :P
Hoo and ray...NOT!
-
There was a time I would have cancelled my own funeral rather than miss the Oscar broadcast.

Isn't old age fun?

Speaking of old age, I should try to get some rest.

-
Good morning, all!
-
I had another round of interesting dreams, although I only remember one about this upcoming concert of Babes In Toyland.
-
This morning, my colleague Jason is coming by for the piano-conductor work I've been through so far on Guys & Dolls. When he leaves, I will proofread my two New Yorker scores. I believe I will spend much time tomorrow preparing for my tax date.
-
I remember seeing only two Robert Mitchum films: Night of the Hunter, which remains his best, and The River of No Return, of which I remember nothing.
Brian Keith: The Parent Trap!
-
So, Mike Pence is in Europe and it sounds as though he's trying rto repair the mess our so-called president is creating, The so-called Orange Cheetoh is already campaigning for the next election. Would someone remind him he didd not win a popularity contest to see how much we love him?
-
There was a time I would have cancelled my own funeral rather than miss the Oscar broadcast.
DR TCB, me, too! That enthusiasm ended a long time ago.
-
Mine, too, DR ELMORE. I will probably not watch this year.

Robert Mitchum:
Too many to list. He was one of my favorite actors.
In fact, for a time, I did publicity for his son, Chris.
Brian Keith:
No films come to mind. However, I do recall seeing him in a Woodland Hills production of THE SUNSHINE BOYS (the Walter Matthau role) in which he was totally miscast.

Good morning, all.

Saturday!
Got a friend's birthday dinner late this afternoon. Other than that, the day is mine. I'll do a little work at the keyboard in preparation for tomorrow's rehearsal.
-
I hope some thawing is getting underway outside. And even more tomorrow, of course. We need it.
-
We'll be stuffing our pie holes at the local hibachi jernt today. That's what the birthday boy wanted to do one year, and it became a tradition. Some traditions are almost like comfort food, and I personally enjoy this one.
-
Good morning, all.

Stuffing our pie holes. The name of my autobiography.

TOD:
Add Out of the Past to many already listed for Mitchum

I apparently can't read, JRand.
-
DR ELMORE I don't think it has! But I really like it - and of course MR BK released the soundtrack on CD!
-
It was very surprising to me to learn that Robert Keith was Brian Keith's father - I always liked Robert, especially in WRITTEN ON THE WIND.
It was even more surprising to me to learn that Robert had been married to Peg Entwhistle, the gal who jumped to her death from the HOLLYWOOD sign......
-
Saturday morning greetings! I just christened our new shower and it's very nice. We'll like it even more when the flooring is something other than plywood sub-floor.
-
Richard and I are leaving in about an hour to see an HD re-broadcast of NEWSIES on a big screen.
-
I'm up, I'm up - maybe seven and a half hours of sleep.
-
Brian Keith was a wonderful actor - especially in The Parent Trap. But I also loved him in his three 50s noirs - Tight Spot, 5 Against the House, and Nightfall. I watched his TV series Crusader when I was a kid. Also very good in The Young Philadelphians, Nevada Smith, The Russians Are Coming, Gaily, Gaily, and The Wind and the Lion - yes, he was very prolific and it's a bit surprising that no one knows him better, especially on this board.
-
The production of The Sunshine Boys Druxy speaks of was at a tiny 87-seat theater in Woodland Hills, that was owned by my friend Ed Gaynes (he produced my show Together Again and offered Welcome to My World a home at his theater next to Joe Allen). Brian Keith played Willy Clark and Al Lewis was played by Howard Morris.
-
Brian Keith is a name and face I've known since I was a kid, but I'm hard pressed to say for sure what I really knew him from besides The Parent Trap. I must have caught a lot of appearances on TV, though I'm pretty sure I didn't watch any of his big shows regularly.
A conundrum, it is.
While Yoda, I'm not.
-
Yesterday evening I got completely distracted from my viewing plans, so Bells Are Ringing still awaits.
-
So, I was playing through my La Cage aux Folles book and cursing some impossible page turns, when I finally saw why they're horrible. They were bound wrong; i.e., a song that should start on the left or right side of the open book to facilitate good page turns starts on the other instead. The problem is easy to see from a logical standpoint, but the location of the page numbers betrays the perpetrator.
There's NO way for me to correct this without scanning the entire book and re-laying out how the double-sided pages should go...and that just can't happen at this point. I've seen local idiots make a "play" copy of a book and get the whole thing wrong, and that's bad enough. This is the first time I've received one like this from the rental house.
-
Isn't old age fun?
;D

Saturday morning greetings! I just christened our new shower and it's very nice. We'll like it even more when the flooring is something other than plywood sub-floor.
I was going to ask if you could use it before the floor is installed. It looks more comfortable than your old shower tub.

Not only am I a big fan of his I always loved his name. I wanted Bryan's middle name to be Keith. You know that Jewish tradition about not naming a child after a living person, my dear mother in-law objected. It didn't matter that I just wanted the name ;)
-
Good Morning! We had quite a rain last night judging by the puddles on my patio. And it looks like we're going to get more. I have wedding to attend later. I don't know if they were planning on an outdoor wedding originally but I'm sir sure it's being moved inside. You can bet the wedding planner has frayed nerves which will get more frayed as the day wears on.
-
Jason just departed with all of Guys and Dolls Act One except for the last three numbers, "I've Never Been In Love Before," The Chase, and The Act One Curtain. He will send me Act Two up to "The Crapshooters Ballet" later today.
-
Joshie called me. Around 3:00, I will head down to City Center to look over the finished Overture with him. Tomorrow, I've got two numbers to proof and some tax work.
-
TIGHT SPOT also has some nice performances from Ginger Rogers and Edward G. Robinson - but the twist at the end involving another character really makes the movie......
It makes Rogers' final moment on the stand a bit anticlimactic.....
Robinson: And what's your profession?
Rogers: Right now? Gangbuster!
-
That music book stuff is weird DR CHAS SMITH......
-
Back from doing stuff - my little shoes that I got so I won't fall down again arrived a day early.

As it turns out, the sinkhole was not on our side of Woodbridge, but on the dumb side east of Laurel Canyon. They've got Laurel Canyon closed from Moorpark to Valley Spring Lane whilst they fix it, but thank goodness it wasn't on the good side of Woodbridge.
-
Time for a nap.
-
I'm hungry.
-
We eat in an hour.
I hope they have a horse on the menu, because I could eat one.
-
No, not really. I haven't gone that far off the deep end yet.
-
I have to leave in an hour to usher for the ballet's production of Sleeping Beauty.
-
I played the commissioned song and I have to say they loved it. This is a family thing - a surprise for the father who's being honored at an event. So, it starts with the young daughter, then the older daughter sings her verse, they sing the first bridge together, then mom has her verse, then the three of them sing a second bridge, and then everyone in the room will stand and sing the final verse. I have to say, the tune is really catchy - in a way it's a shame this will be its only use :) They loved the lyric and thought I captured each of their feelings perfectly. That's why I had that dinner a few weeks ago - to ask questions and listen to their answers. I didn't really use anything they said literally, just words here and there and the general spirit of what they were saying. Should I print the lyric here?
-
Joshie and I fine-tuned the overture, looked over some concerns he had in one of his scores, revised the score for "Sing sing for sing sing," and I came home. I just proofed the new intro to "Say It With Gin," and I'm breaking for the evening.
-

I guess you didn't take a walk to see it ;)
-
Should I print the lyric here?
Yes if you feel comfortable doing so.

Congrats on the christening, Ginny!

I would like to see the lyric.
It would be cool to see them.

Hello, everyone.
-
As you all know, the weather frogs were correct about a big storm yesterday. The skies have now cleared and the sun is out in my 'hood.
The Sunday storm is for Northern California, but we're expecting more rain next week. Normal rain, not a mega storm.
-
Here's the lyric - of course it's just a lyric without the really catchy tune that goes with it - very upbeat and melodic.
THERE IS THIS GUY I KNOW
SO LET ME CROW
BECAUSE HE’S REALLY SPECIAL, YOU SEE
WHO MAKES MY SKY SO BLUE
I’LL TELL YOU WHO
WHO MAKES THE SUN COME OUT JUST FOR ME
ALWAYS HUMBLE
RARELY HEAR HIM GRUMBLE
IF I TAKE A TUMBLE
GETS ME BACK ON MY FEET
WHO IS GENTLE
EVEN WHEN I’M MENTAL
GLAD HE’S NOT A RENTAL
HE’S SO SWEET
HE’S MY DAD
THERE IS THIS GUY I KNOW
WHO’S WATCHED ME GROW
AND BEEN THERE EVERY STEP OF THE WAY
AND IF I COME UP SHORT
HE’S MY SUPPORT
A SHOULDER I CAN LEAN ON ALL DAY
GETS ME THROUGH THINGS
TELLS ME I CAN DO THINGS
AND THOUGH I MAY SCREW THINGS
UP – HE’S ALWAYS THERE
THERE TO GUIDE ME
ALWAYS THERE BESIDE ME
HELP THE TERRIFIED ME
NONE COMPARE
TO MY DAD
AND YOU KNOW THAT
THOUGH THESE WORDS MAY SEEM TRITE
HE MAKES EVERYTHING RIGHT
HE IS PATIENT AND CALM
HE’S THE BEST DAD THERE IS
WE’RE SO GLAD THAT WE’RE HIS
LET’S TURN IT OVER TO MOM
THERE IS THIS GUY I KNOW
HE’S MY HIT SHOW
HE MAKES MY WORLD A BEAUTIFUL THING
HE ALWAYS FITS THE BILL
HE ALWAYS WILL
I LOOK AT HIM, I JUST WANT TO SING
HE’S SURPRISING
ALWAYS ENERGIZING
ALWAYS MESMERIZING
HE MAKES ME WANT TO SOAR
WHEN I MET HIM
I COULD NOT FORGET HIM
AND I WOULDN’T LET HIM
GET AWAY – CLOSED THAT DOOR
THERE IS JUST ONE OF HIM
AND YOU KNOW I LOVE HIM
MORE AND MORE
AND YOU KNOW THAT
THOUGH IT’S NOT A BIG DEAL
IT’S THE WAY THAT WE FEEL
HE IS REALLY A GEM
ALL THE PEOPLE HE’S MET
SING HIS PRAISES, YOU BET
LET’S TURN IT OVER TO THEM
THERE IS THIS GUY WE KNOW
HE MAKES US GLOW
YOU KNOW THE GUY WE’RE TALKIN’ ABOUT
THERE IS NO NEED TO WAIT
LET’S CELEBRATE
IT’S REALLY SOMETHING WE’VE GOT TO SHOUT
SO WE’LL SHOUT IT
CARRY ON ABOUT IT
NEVER EVER DOUBT IT
YOU’RE THE GUY WE ADORE
YEAH, WE’RE BRAGGING
YOU’RE THE GUY WE’RE TAGGING
THERE’S NO WAY WE’RE LAGGING
NOW THAT WE’VE GOT THE FLOOR
THERE IS JUST ONE OF YOU
AND YOU KNOW WE LOVE YOU
MORE AND MORE!

Richard and I are leaving in about an hour to see an HD re-broadcast of NEWSIES on a big screen.
I wanted to see this, but I didn't take the time. Hopefully, it'll either be shown again, or released on Blu-ray (or at least DVD).

Bruce, could you sing a bit of the commissioned song for us here at some point?

Good to see it's coming along. Will you post a pic when it's done?

Vibes in advance for DR George's upcoming procedure.
Thanks, Jeanne! Today and tomorrow are the days where I need to eat a low-fiber diet, then Monday is the actual day of preparation, with only "clear liquids" allowed besides the actual product :P

Oh, I see Bruce posted the lyric while I was typing my post.

wow! How could the recipient--Dad--not like it?

Well, I need to be going. I need to shower, shave, and get dressed. Before I get to the show, I need to get some more programs printed for tonight's show, or next week's shows, if I get more printed than what will be needed for tonight. Then, it's show time.
Be back later!

Good evening. It rained all day here.

The rain waited until after we walked, so kind of it.

Back from a fun belated birthday dinner with Sami and mom.

Grant sent over the final book with the last of the corrections so I'll go through that tonight - but here's the thing. Somewhere around three o'clock, after the family left. My left ear began to feel blocked up, rather like on a plane as you're landing - not my right ear. And it got very weird very quickly, and I liken it to a tweeter having blown. If I speak loudly it's like static for breakup in that ear. I used a Q-tip but I'm pretty good about cleaning my ears regularly and there was nothing there anyway. I have never in my life had any issues with my ears. I Googled and found that the two most common things for this kind of thing are waxy buildup, which I'm pretty sure isn't the case, or water on the ear due to a sinus infection or flu - since I've had neither that doesn't seem to fit the bill, although I guess anything is possible. If it IS the latter, they say there's nothing to do about it but let it run its course. But if it's not improving by Monday, I may just go to an ENT and have it checked.

Ear vibes to bk

Still coughing. And dozing on and off all day
-
I was dozing in the recliner this afternoon. when my doorbell was rung several times in quick succession followed by an urgent pounding on the door. Thinking there was some sort of emergency I stumbled to the door to find a Verizon saleswoman who immediately launched into her peppy speech about working at a neighbors house... I told her I had the flu and she responded "Oh, that's OK! You have optimum, right? ". I just shut the door... Nitwit, I wasn't apologizing to you for having the flu, that was your cue to apologize to me for disturbing me.
-
Bruce, try Sambucol. It's good for sinus, and if that's not was it is, it won't hurt.
Hope it's better tomorrow. As you know, LOTS of people have been sick.
-
continued feel-better vibes to Vixmom. You should have told her you thought it was the paramedics pounding on the door, to take you into the ER.
-
I've been fighting something, too. One day I'm fine, the next day I feel like I'm coming down with something.
-
I'm sucking on Sambucol as
we speak I type.
-
I just watched the original WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION (movie). I have to say that there are some things about the remake that I like. The two are quite different.
-
Vibes to all for good health!

Good night.

A Q-tip can actually push wax into the ear. Drops to remove wax can be purchased over the counter. I do agree to check with an ENT ifor the problem continues.

Good evening!

-
That is a little better.

I was watching "The O.J. Tapes" on 20 /20
-
So I am late getting here tonight.
-
I am on the second round of antibiotics.
-
The surgeon increased the dosage, so hopefully the infection will be gone on Tuesday.
-
Today was not as rainy as they predicted.
-
It rained, but mostly just showers and not the great flood.
-
The California storm is still the top news story tonight.
-
Basically all the same photos from last night.
-
Including the famous BK sinkhole.
-
We are supposed to get a lot of rain on Monday.
-
I need to get ready for bed.

Howdy, 1 Guest!

I have returned.

Wow! We now have 2 Guests.

Wow! We now have 2 Guests.
And me!
;)
-
Tonight's show went really well. We had 28 people! And they really liked it. Whew!
-
One costume change took probably twice as long as it had taken before. I didn't hear what happened, though. We're not back again until Friday, so I'm sure that it'll be fixed by then
-
We gained George, but we lost a Guest.

George, I am glad the audience enjoyed the show.
Thanks, Tom.
-
I have to admit that this is one of those shows that I didn't really care for when I first saw it. The women were all very solid on their roles, the costumes were great, the staging was simple but effective, but it just didn't grab me. Having seen it multiple times over this past week, I've really gotten to like and appreciate it a lot more.
-
I just hope the the audiences are more accepting and appreciative after one viewing than I was. ;D
-
Did your sister's boyfriend enjoy it?
