Well, you've read the notes, the notes were one for the history books, and now it is time for you to post until the historical cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MERITORIOUS!
-
First post after BK!
-
Next post after BK!
-
Good night, George.
-
Good night, George.
Good night, Tom.
-
I'm not tired.
-
Today I am meeting Sandy for lunch.
-
Good morning to all
-
I did not watch the telecast live except the last 30 minutes. I went and saw La La Land last night and loved it. My kind of film.
I too was wondering why the stage manager was there during the acceptance speaches for best picture and now know why. So glad I did not turn off the tv right away!
-
What does ABC broadcast on the remaining 2 hours of so in Prime Time on the West Coast that we don't see on the east coast?
-
Good morning, all!
-
Because of my neighbor's weekend late homecomings, I lost 90 minutes ofd sleep last night ad I am not amused. When I turned out the lights at 1000, I had no idea if she were home or out. When I woke at 11:00, I was so apprehensive that I would doze off and she would come in and wake me that I was awake until some time past 12:30. She and I are heading for some kind of confrontation.
-
So, this morning I see my accountant at 10 and my taxes should be finished my 11:00 or so. I will then head to City Center, meet with Joshie and Rob, and then head home.
-
I'm going through my usual pre-tax jitters, wondering if I will owe money or how much I will be given back.
-
I remember one dream from last night. DR Ginny and Richard were in it, along with other Ohio friends, and it had something to do with a misscheduled concert, and two other conflicts on the same night.
-
As to last night's Oscars, I came home from dinner with DRs vixmom and edisaurus, got ready for ned, read the first pages of The Other Boleyn Girl - already bistorically inaccurate - and went to bed, sometime between 9:30 and 10.
-
It's still dark so I cannot say what sort of day it will be. No, I cannot day at this time.
-

Wow, your accountant does your return while you're right there in the office?
That's great service!
-
Good morning.
-
I went to bed last night. When one gets up early, one must go to bed early as well.
-
Good morning, all.
-
T.O.D.
Aside from the unbelievable ending, my favorite part of the show was when the tourists came through. That was real.
-
I shall read last night's posts later today.
I did not watch the OSCARS because I didn't want to hear all about how bad things are - I KNOW HOW BAD THINGS ARE.....just like last year when DiCaprio used his great moment to lecture us peasants on Global Warming.....
I watched a couple of episodes of MST3K OnDEMAND on a service I didn't know existed SHOUT! FACTORY. And then I went to sleep.
I watched some of the ceremony this morning - particularly the world shaking and MOST IMPORTANT thing in the world - a mistaken announcement of one movie for another.....
And now life can go on.
-
I of course am sorry to have missed the HHW OSCAR BASH and hopefully next year, things will have settled down, and the high priced talent will have found another cause to beat their gums about.....
-
I'm sorry to have missed the Oscar Bash here.
Guess who didn't see even one minute of the broadcast last night? For the first time in many years.
By the time I got home from the show and the after-thing (at which there was a TV, but with sound turned off and closed captioning turned on so we could occasionally glance at it), I could probably have turned it on just in time to catch the amazing Live TV Disaster, but I was wiped out and just decided to hit the sack. Why I didn't think to DVR the thing, I have no idea. But thank God for the internet, because I shall now be able to take a look at wherever the disaster is immortalized, to relish it in all its glory.
-
Wow! Edisaurus! Who knew THAT was going to happen? I hope to meet her one day.
-
I have to gather my things and head out.
-
Vixmom's day in the city sounded wonderful. Nice photographic evidence, too!
-
I have not seen MOONLIGHT yet, though I've just ordered it on Amazon since I have every Best Picture winner in my DVD library.
However, I wonder if this is one of those movies that you see once because of the awards, then don't care if you ever see it again.
I'm not suggesting that these aren't excellent pictures, but how many times can you watch such movies like SOPHIE'S CHOICE (not a Best Picture winner), 12 YEARS A SLAVE, BIRDMAN, THE LOST WEEKEND, GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT and other films of the moment?
It's amazing when you look at films that have won Best Picture over the Academy's history, how relatively few of them are still watched regularly today by the public. Winning a Best Picture Oscar does not make a film a "classic".
-
Good morning, all.
-
Two!
-
TCB, I did not Moonlight won until I read the notes this morning.
-
I had a very bad night. The Benedryl didn't work and I really didn't sleep. I have a mild headache and am feeling foggy.
-
Just got some good news. The biopsy results show that whatever's is growing on my thyroid is not cancer. What it is they still don't seem to know.
-
Good news DRJOHN G.

Good to hear the good news.
-
Nice photos from DR VIXMOM last night. Great to see DR EDISAURUS.
-
Tax vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
I could not fall asleep after watching that crazy Oscar mishap.
Was it Warren Beatty's fault? Not really.
But I'm sorry. He saw that he got the wrong card. It clearly said "Best Actress Emma Stone". I get that he was in shock. But he should have immediately said that he had received the wrong card. Then all of this mix-up could have been avoided. What a mess.
-
Thank you, JRAND and Fred.
-
I've reviewed the highlights and lowlights of the broadcast, using last night's comments and BK's notes as a guide.
For some reason, I don't find an unedited clip in HD of the Best Picture fiasco, just one that looks like VHS quality and seems to be missing part of the picture. Weird. I'll look around later for a better one because I do want to examine it more closely.
Monologue was indeed good, and I liked the tourists sequence. Checked out some of the gowns and hairdos and was pleased to see they got Medusa to show up.
What else? I forget. Might catch a few additional things later.
-
Sorry to hear about further allergy miseries, DR John G., but congrats on the excellent news!
-

Great!

TOD:
We didn't watch, but Mark and I were at a new Mexican restaurant where they were showing the Oscars on a big screen above their bar with the sound OFF. We arrived just in time to see best actor and actress and then best picture. So, I'm eating my food and not really paying that much attention and I'm trying to talk to Mark, but I could tell he's not listening. He's intently watching the screen and he looks very confused because the sound is off, but he could tell that something really strange happened. He says, "There was a bunch of people up there for La La Land, but now those people are gone, and there's a whole different cast of people of up there." We saw the close-up of the "Midnight" card and didn't really understand why they were showing it. With the sound off, it was extra confusing.
-
I recorded, and flipped back and forth between Oscars and "The Big Bang Theory" re-runs on TNT (still a hoot to watch even after one or more viewings).
The necrology wasn't bad. Was moved by Jennifer Anniston's sincere grief over Bill Paxton's death.
The necrology is supposedly about deaths in the previous year (i.e. 2016), so Paxton was not eligible for inclusion. But Debbie and Carrie were the final two...and both died in 2017. Since this segment is pre-produced, I feel sure they would have included Paxton had there been time.
I'm happy for Viola Davis. I was amazed at the look on Denzel's face when Casey Affleck's name was called as Best Actor. Denzel looked dazed and, then, pissed.
This was almost a repeat of the awards for 1972. "Cabaret" won 8 awards (Actress, Supporting Actor, Director, Cinematography, Art Direction, Music Adaptation, Editing and Sound) , but not Best Picture. "The Godfather" won three: Picture, Actor, Screenplay. This year, "La-La Land" won 6 awards. "Moonlight" won three: Picture, Supporting Actor, Screenplay.
Quick: Name a film that won only ONE Oscar and it was for Best Picture (or, at the time, "Outstanding Production").
-
Monday morning greetings! Richard and I are prepping for our bathroom flooring to be installed tomorrow morning!
-
He's downstairs painting the baseboards and I have to crawl into the vanity cupboards to clean them out. They're going to put a piece of the vinyl into the cupboard under the sink, which will be nicer that the grungy surface that's in there now.
-
Was it The Greatest Show in Earth, Ron?
-
Thank you, ChasSmith and Druxy.
-
Just got some good news. The biopsy results show that whatever's is growing on my thyroid is not cancer. What it is they still don't seem to know.
Best news I've heard in a while! Hope they figure it out...

That was pretty funny!

Great news, John! Hopefully, they'll figure it out soonly!
-
Thank you, Ginny and George.
-
I wish I could say that I'm breathing a little easier with the news, but the allergies are making sure I can't breathe at all.
-
Great quote from a Fannie Flagg novel:
Oh my God, Earl, I am an illegitimate Polish Catholic person!
-
Great news, DR John!
-
We just got back from a nice hike. It is supposed to start raining pretty soon.
-
I'm up, I'm up - got up at eleven after nine hours of sleep.
-
Trying to get myself uncontested.
-
So, Druxy, despite his clearly worded post that he wouldn't be at our partay because he wouldn't be watching the Oscars for political reasons, watched the Oscars and did not attend our partay. Yes, perfectly understandable.
-
Page three? Really?
-
Great quote from a Fannie Flagg novel:

:))
-
And now my foot is on ice.
-
More vibes to Laura!
-
Thanks. I'm fine.
-
I am home from my wanderings today.
I dud very well with my taxes and I am getting a lot back. This will pay for my trup to Ohio in May, and I am quite happy about that.
-
Then I went to City Center, and we had a meeting about last week's band reading and talked about what is left to be done before the March 18 sitzprobe.
-
Now I have to deal with this Moonshine & Mistletoe recording. Oy!
-
Good news, DR JohnG!
-
From DR TCB:
Now I have to wait until Friday for our competition.
Whatever happens I am glad you are enjoying the experience.
-
DR Druxy I love both the both and film GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT, and both have been repeated.
-
Just got some good news. The biopsy results show that whatever's is growing on my thyroid is not cancer. What it is they still don't seem to know.
WONDERFUL NEWS!!!!
-
Was it The Greatest Show in Earth, Ron?
No. It was nominated for three and won two.
-
Thank you, Laura, Elmore and Jane.
-
Was it The Greatest Show in Earth, Ron?
Answer: 1935's "Mutiny on the Bounty" - MGM. It was nominated for 8, including Best Actor nominations for Laughton, Gable and Tone, but it only won "Outstanding Production".
-
Foot vibes anyway, Laura.
-
Thirty minutes with AppleCare: when I tried to open a document this morning, the computer told me I had no permission. Just now, when I tried to phone in my monthly meds, I couldn't open the list of meds because, my computer said, I had no permissions. A nice lady named April just fixed me up.
Big sigh of relief.

Whew!!

Had part one of our rehearsal. I ran my two songs but boy is my voice trashed right now - still fighting this damn thing. John is still getting over it as is one of our singers, who's had it for three WEEKS.

1.) I've NEVER attended the Oscar party, mainly because my computer is in one room and the TV is in the other. I did, however, post after the show.
2.) Frankly, I didn't think the political barbs were that bad. Had they been, I would have turned it off. But, then I would've missed the biggest screw-up in Oscar history.
Anything else?
:P
-
DR Druxy I love both the both and film GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT, and both have been repeated.
???

Foot vibes for DR LAURA.
DR ELMORE - good tax news!
-
Well, it turns out that the announcement of the best picture wasn't the only snafu...Australian Producer Jan Chapman "Devastated" by Mistaken Oscars In Memoriam Photo (http://www.eonline.com/news/832367/australian-producer-jan-chapman-devastated-by-mistaken-oscars-in-memoriam-photo). It turns out that the Academy used Jan Chapman's picture for Janet Patterson. Jan Chapman is still very much alive. :-\
-
Better to be alive and devastated than to be dead and not care one way or the other.
-
And getting oneself a bit of "Oscar notoriety" is something for the obituary later on, isn't it!
-
Note to Druxy - my TV is in one room and my computer is in another. Didn't stop me from relentlessly posting in the commercial breaks.
-
Went and had a cup of chicken soup and a bagel.
-
Four!
-
Just forced myself to finish February House, Sherril Tippins' story of the house that Auden, Carson McCullers, the Bowles, Benjamin Britten and Gypsy Rose Lee shared. I didn't want it to end. Now I want to read more Auden, hear more Britten and find out more about George Davis, the man who brought them all together and later married Lotta Lenya.
-
DR Druxy I love both the both and film GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT, and both have been repeated.
???
I think it is a good thought provoking story, not heartbreaking like SOPHIE'S CHOICE.
-
Wonderful news John G I am so happy it's not cancer. Now hopefully they can figure out what it is and take care of it easily
-
Good tax news for Elmore
-
Artie's was quite fun last night and I enjoyed the rest of my Reuben for lunch today
-
But "we ran out of rice pudding" ! An Artie's dinner should always end with rice pudding
-
Time to make the dinner Vixdad will be home at 9
-
Last night we watched the excellent 2007 film, FRACTURE, with Ryan Gosling & Anthony Hopkins.
-
Earlier in the day we met cousins of Keith's in Portland. Keith and his cousin met through their genealogy research.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Good news from DR John G! Very glad to hear it!
-
Good tax news from Larry, too. I'm happy for you.
-
Health vibes to everyone.
-
I have no news.
TTFN.
-
Page four? Really?
-
Will NOT be sick!
-
Thank you, DRs Vixmom and Jeanne.
-
I have returned to Denial, which has some truly good performances and a tight script by David Hare.
-
Earlier in the day we met cousins of Keith's in Portland. Keith and his cousin met through their genealogy research.
Cool! Last month ago, my mom found out that she has a half-brother back in Germany (they have the same father)! He knew about her from their paternal grandmother (who died many years ago, and their father died in 2003), but only recently decided to contact her through FB. He actually had (and sent) some pictures of my mom when she was a child that she had never seen!
-
Note to Druxy - my TV is in one room and my computer is in another. Didn't stop me from relentlessly posting in the commercial breaks.
Perhaps you're not dealing with mobility issues.
-
Perhaps I'm not.
-
Heard a test sample of the audio book - he sounds great and my only note was perhaps a little less narratorish and more real person. But his voice sounds really nice and I think it's going to be a fun audio book.
-
Part two of rehearsal in about ten minutes. Man, I'm fighting tooth and nail here.
-

8) Was she surprised when he contacted her? Do they have plans to meet in person?
-
My half-sister discovered that her father lives in the Pacific Northwest and she has contacted him from Germany. He and his children would like to be in touch, but his wife has nixed that idea. I feel very sorry for Brigitte.
-
I have finished Denial. the script in the end lacked the tension that perhaps it needed, largely because, early in the credits, they ran the name of the book that the movie is based on. That title gave away the ending.
But if you are interested in a good drama about the Holocaust with a great cast and an intelligent script, this is it.

This is sad for all of them, except for the horrible wife.

I agree.

And now for something a little more fun. The library has picked up the last seven Colombo movies, filmed between 1994 and 2003. Love Peter Falk in these.

5ive!!

She was surprised. I don't think she remembered her father. He left when she was too young and went and had another family that she never knew about. I don't know if they'll meet, at least anytime soon. He's in Germany, you know. We'll see.

The first mystery is a hoot. William Shatner plays a Rush Limbaugh-type sleazeball with a Judge Turpin-like interest in his ward. When a young man with mischief on his mind comes sniffing around, Shatner kills him.
-
Anybody celebrating Mardi Gras tomorrow?
-
Don't think so
-
Where is everyone?
-
Hello, 0 guests!
-
Just read the synopsis for the musical version of February House. Sounds like the authors decided to play fast with facts, turning a compelling story into something cheesy and stupid.
-
Rehearsal part two went great and now I'm relaxing and fighting the damn good fight.
-
Good night, all.
-
Is anyone watching the "When We Rise" mini-series?
-
I was looking at the IMDb listing (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5292622/reference) cast list, and noticed that one of the actors (in only one episode) has the same unique name as a friend of mine, although my friend moved and I haven't seen him in several years.
-
Hmmm, maybe it is your friend.
-
Hmmm, maybe it is your friend.
It could be, but his FB page says he lives in Seattle. But he has travelled and certainly can continue to.
-
I don't know if "When We Rise" based on real people and incidents, or just inspired by incidents of the times, but I like it. I'll definitely watch the whole mini-series.
-
Page five? Really?
-
Good evening!
-
Lunch with Sandy was nice.
-
You should never release a starving man into a buffet.
-
Actually, I was a good boy sticking mostly to soft salads.

It turns out that it's based on real people and incidents (https://www.bustle.com/p/how-historically-accurate-is-when-we-rise-years-of-research-went-into-the-expansive-miniseries-40944). Good to know.

Health vibes and xylophones to BK.
-
They are still calling for spotty snow tonight.
-
I think Tacoma is safe, however.
-
It is cold tonight. At least down to freezing.
-
One more post.

Well, this is an interesting perspective on what happened at the the end of the Oscars:
'Moonlight' May Have Won For Best Picture, But It Still Got Robbed (https://www.bustle.com/p/moonlight-may-have-won-for-best-picture-but-it-still-got-robbed-40858).
It's very interesting...something that I certainly hadn't thought about. :-\
