Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Kritzerland at Sterling's 75, and now it is time for you to post until the 75 cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: QUIESCENCE!
-
First post after BK!
-
Second post after BK!
-
Congrats, BK, on the successful Kritzerland show!!
-
I put up one additional photo that just came to me.

I'm glad it was such a success.

Nice!

Well, I must get some sleep now. I need to get up earlier this morning than I normally do, so I'd better go to bed earlier than I normally do. Wednesday night last week, I left work and when I turned the key to start my car, I just heard a "click" and then nothing happened! My car did NOT start up. I tried not to freak out and calmly took the key out of the ignition and tried again. Again, nothing. I had to attempt about 8 or 9 times before my car actually started up and I was able to drive home! In the morning, I held my breath as I turned the car key, and fortunately it started right up. I called the auto place where I usually take my car and the earliest that they could take me is today at 8:30 a.m. Also fortunately, my car has had no troubles at all this weekend, but I'm still going to have them look at it. We'll see if they're able to find something...and hopefully, it won't be expensive. So, I'm off to bed.
-
Good night, Tom...and anyone else lurking out there in the dark!

Good night, Tom...and anyone else lurking out there in the dark!
Good night, George, and best of luck that it is something small (and cheap) with your car.
-
Since I may never sleep again, I guess I will go play Gin.
-
Many car vibes to George!
-
So glad the show was a success, BK! Congratulations!
-
So much to ketchup on from last night. I'll probably have to do that later.
-
First on the East coast!

TOD: I don't know that I have any real top favorites among the big studio monster movies
But I do recall an imaginative movie (called Alligator), about a father who flushes his kid's pet alligator down the toilet, and it grows in the sewage system and wreaks havoc. i recall that it was quite intentionally very funny at times amid the terror.
-
So happy all has gone well dentally for vixmom!
-
Good morning.
-
So glad the show went well, BK. I don't think Guy Haines has ever shown up, has he?
-
T.O.D.
My all-time favorite big monster movie is THEM!
The giant ants might not be up to today's special effects standards, but the movie has an intelligent script, good performances and has stood the test of time for over 60 years.
-
Good morning to all
-
TOD
The original King Kong
and any of the Japanese Monster movies for the chinzie special effects which make them a joy to watch. They include Godzilla, Mothra, Gamera, Ghiddorah (3 headed one), Rodan etc etc

We watched MOONLIGHT yesterday afternoon.
It had excellent performances (Naomie Harris was magnificent); several heartfelt scenes, BUT the "Best Picture of the Year"?
PLEASE!
I have yet to see LA LA LAND, but HELL OR HIGH WATER and HACKSAW RIDGE are much more involving and enduring films than MOONLIGHT.
For me, the "Best Picture of the Year" should be a movie that people, over time, will want to see more than once...or twice.
MOONLIGHT may be very touching, but I'd never want to see it again. It's a "film of the moment".
There are so many "films of the moment" that have won Best Picture and that now, aside from film buffs who want to see it because it won Best Picture, are otherwise forgotten.
A few other "films of the moment": GOING MY WAY, THE LOST WEEKEND, GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT, THE ENGLISH PATIENT.
Except for historical reasons, who watches these movies any longer? Yet, they beat out such revered classics as: DOUBLE INDEMNITY, MILDRED PIERCE, SPELLBOUND, MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET, CROSSFIRE and FARGO.
-
Chester goes to the groomer this morning.
Not a plesant task.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I had a poor night of sleep, so moving this morning was more of an ordeal than I prefer. I had a nightmare I've now forgotten, and I jave no memories of any other dreams.
-
This is a City Center day. There's been no word at all from Joshie, so I hope he is okay. Around 1:00 we'll get our next assignments from Rob Berman. Tomorrow, our leads arrive, and Thursday is the Meet & Greet for everyone.
-
On my way down, I will finally stop at the post office and post this jury deferment.
-
I had no doubt the show last night would go well. I'm very happy to know I was right.
-
I had to find some things I'd written years ago on The Golden Apple score and American mytholody for Rob. I missed the Victoria finale. I hope I can catch it tonight on Channel 21,
-
!! Page 2 Dance !!
-
Good morning, all.
-
My dream was about
(wait for it)
cleaning house.
-
A bit of which I was going to do today, anyway.
-
Congrats to BK & Co. on a stupendous Kritzerland at Sterling's 75!
-
Congrats to BK on the Kritzerland show.
-
On my way down, I will finally stop at the post office and post this jury deferment.
Maybe send it certified, or some return receipt or proof of mailing method?
-
Good morning, all.
-
House cleaning vibes for ChasSmith.
-
Congratulations to BK and company on the show.

DR Druxy, I watch Going My Way every other year or so at Christmas, but it wasn't a best picture. English Patient, however, I loved. I've seen it now a half-dozen times, including twice at the theater. The scene of lighting the chapel is a favorite--and it wasn't in the book.

Although my wife and many other people I know hated it, I enjoyed THE ENGLISH PATIENT, though it's not something I'd necessarily want to see again. On the other hand, FARGO is a movie that I've seen many times and will, in all likelihood, see many times again.
The same goes with GOING MY WAY and DOUBLE INDEMNITY. DOUBLE INDEMNITY is the film that has endured all these many years.
-
Certainly the worst choice for Best Picture occurred in 1952 when THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH beat out HIGH NOON, THE QUIET MAN, IVANHOE and MOULIN ROUGE. Not nominated that year were VIVA ZAPATA, THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL and, get ready for this, SINGIN' IN THE RAIN.

I have seen Fargo about as many times as English Patient.
To me, the worst ever was Forrest Gump's win over Pulp Fiction.

I would tell you about my dreams if only I'd slept for even one minute. Could not fall asleep, period. I may try to get a couple of hours in a little while but have to be up by ten.

I've loved FARGO more every time I've seen it.
And for me, THE LOST WEEKEND easily transcends being an "of the moment" film. I'm about due for a viewing of it.

I dunno. Once with those bad, not-so-special effects was enough for me.

Monday morning greetings! Kind of dreary here today, but I get to go to a tea party club meeting this afternoon.
-
Congratulations to MR BK & Co on their success! The pictures were wonderful! Patter can be fun!

Today is the birthday of Ms. Allison Hayes.

-
Congratulations, BK, on your 75th show!
-
Happy birthday, Miss Allison.

I, too. love The Lost Weekend - and there are no special effects in it that I recall. We're talking about the Billy Wilder film.

The bats during the delirium tremens sequence.

Of course, I saw The Lost Weekend back on my 20s, when I was a callow youth.

I'm certainly not suggesting that THE LOST WEEKEND is a bad film. I'm just saying that it hasn't endured in popularity like SPELLBOUND, MILDRED PIERCE and another nominee, ANCHORS AWEIGH. It's a depressing movie and, I believe, that most people want to be entertained when they watch a film, not depressed.
-
MOONLIGHT and MANCHESTER BY THE SEA are also depressing movies.
-
I was watching FEUD last night, so I didn't see TIME AFTER TIME....I will probably watch it this evening ONDemand.....
-
TOD:
King Kong - original
Them!
Jurassic Park - all of them to some degree
The Giant Claw
Godzilla vs. Mecha Godzilla - both versions

TOD:
Kritzerland at Sterling’s 75 was wonderful! Mark and I have been arguing for weeks over whether or not The Partridge Family's "Echo Valley - 26809" would be sung or not. I was sure it wouldn't, Mark was sure it would. He won. We were thrilled to hear it and even more thrilled that Bruce himself sang it. And on top of that, "Terminal" is one of our very favorite Guy Haines songs, so we were very happy all around. On the way home Mark suggested that a mash-up could be done of the songs "Beef Lo Mein" and "Chinese Food in Bed". ;)

Many car vibes to George!
Thanks, Fred! I dropped off my car and got to work about an hour and a half earlier than I usually do. :o
-
I hate mornings. :P
-
DR GEORGE that same thing happened to a cousin of mine. He just jiggled the steering wheel a bit and the car started......I hope you have an easy fix with your car.

I agree Going My Way wasn't a best picture, and I too have watched it a few times. I really don't have any interest in watching English Patient again though if Keith wanted to I would not refuse.

I think that see through slip needs a slip under it ;)

Thanks, Jrand! It turns out that it's done. They're going to pick me up now. It'll be about $375 + tax. :-\

Many car vibes to George!

Thanks, Jane!

I've picked up my car from the auto shop and it was the starter. It cost about $400. I've paid more for other things, but since it's the first time that I can remember replacing the starter on this almost 19 year old car, I'll probably never have to replace it again...EVER!
;)

Thanks. That's it, for now (an Avenue Q reference). I do have some other issues that will need to be addressed eventually: a new clutch, a front-end alignment, an oil pan leak (although, it's never leaked oil onto the ground) and there's something about the lower ball joint. So...one step at a time. :)

84 is not that old, IMO, so "a number of years ago" is nearing my current age.
I'm 68 going on 69. When do you expect I'll depart? ;)

Because of what I read I thought he was rather ill and he didn't look all that good either. Considering we are about the same age, my number of years ago was not intended to go back that far ;D

Nowhere in that obit was that he worked for Hefner on the cable show Playboy on the Air - reviewed movies for the show - I was on the show, too, as the sex news reporter, and we got along famously. I used to seem him at the opening nights at the Ahmanson and we always said hello.
-
None of the online obits I've read tells Robert Osborne's story in the same way. Each has great anecdotes about the man.
-
In the absolutely amazing department: When Twilight Time did Experiment in Terror I was beyond thrilled as I love the movie. So, I had Mik Matessino make me a copy of what they used for the isolated score, which was a mono up and down music track that had the terrible movie edits mixed in with source cues that faded in and out - I couldn't even listen to it. But today, a friend gave me the complete score in stereo - I have no idea how someone had this but it just goes to show you that you never say never about scores. Unfortunately I can't release it - not only complicated by the RCA re-recording, which we could work out, but that the film is Sony and the music guy there is a complete jerk - I had so many e-mail volleys, offered to pay the exorbitant license fee on certain titles, and they simply would never make a deal, which they had with a few other labels. I finally just told the guy off.

DAMN.

“My Fair Lady,” which won the Tony for best new musical in 1957, will return to Broadway next year for the first time in a quarter century.
Lincoln Center Theater said Monday that it would stage a revival of the musical, directed by Bartlett Sher, who has become the nonprofit organization’s go-to director for revivals of midcentury classics.

Alec Baldwin once interviewed Robert Osborne on a TCM special and many of the things mentioned in his obit were talked about there.....his connection to Diane Baker is very interesting, they had remained friends since he did a screen test with her at Fox....the test that got him a spot in Lucille Ball's Desilu Playhouse cast....
I also like the story he told about Lucy saying to him......"You're a writer, why are you doing this? You don't want to do this the rest of your life - go do something interesting!"
-
What a story MR BK.
Some people overvalue what they have - i.e. Susan Nicholson Hofheintz who thinks she going to get a couple of million dollars for the AIP films she has the rights to [including "I Was a Teenage Frankenstein" and "The Amazing Colossal Man"] - and others are just asses who don't have any other way to feel important.....
-
This source is going to get me a bunch of other stuff and hopefully there will be a few things to release.

Bruce: To answer a question you posed to me last November, in reference to the LP "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" narrated by Richard Harris, the label was ABC/Dunhill.
And for anyone curious about that recording, you can find it here ON YOUTUBE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8COt1n3jDqA)

I always liked this photo of Robert & Lucy.

Re: goodreads sending emails about e-book sales DR Jeanne asked:
Do you receive other emails from them? Can you change the settings on the site? It may be a setting thing.
Yes I receive other emails from them. But I can't change my country location (nor do I want to). But it would be nice to get the sales emails.
-
DR Jane wrote:
Darn, sorry about that. I have purchased a few books I have been alerted to. One book came from the author instead of Goodreads as I am on her facebook page. I only buy books I can't get from the library.
Do you receive notifications of books by authors you like or when a book has been released that you have marked to read?
No I don't receive notifications when books on my TBR list are released. I do get an email though every month showing new releases for the next month (including books on my TBR list). I am pretty obsessive about goodreads though. So I'm usually very up to date when authors I like release books.

Trying to play catch up, but for the TOD, the original "King Kong."

I came across this recipe. I think it's a Baptist plot.
Asparagus Salad
Heat 1 can of asparagus soup. Add 1 package lime gelatin and stir to dissolve.
Mix in 8 ounces cream cheese, 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1 cup chopped celery, 1/2 cup cold water, 1/2 cup chopped pecans, 1/2 cup green pepper, 1 tablespoon onion. Congeal.
This treat comes from Glenda Dunaway and is from the 1978 collection, "Favorite Recipes: First Baptist Church, Granbury, Texas"
-
I hope no one ever makes it for me. Or for anyone else, for that matter.
-
Same cookbook, worse recipe.
Party Dip
It has mayo, onion juice, Worcestershire sauce, cottage cheese, Vienna sausages, pimento, salt and pepper.

I'm an hour into The Birth of a Nation. Very hard movie to watch, but very well made.

When I left this morning to take my car to the auto shop, it was kind of sprinkling. By the time they drove me to work, it started snowing! (They fixed my car fairly quickly and they came to pick me up just a couple of hours later.) When I went to lunch at Subway at about 2 pm, it was very sunny, and when I left to go back to work at about 2:45, it was hailing!
