Well, you've read the notes, the notes had videos so you also watched the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the video cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EQUIPOISE!
-
First post after BK!
-
Great videos, BK!
-
First post after BK!
Second poster after BK!
;)
-
Great videos, BK!
Agreed! Really great!
-
I suppose I should try to sleep.
-
Good night, George.
-
Good night, BK.
-
Good night, Tom and BK.
-
Wonderful notes today!
-
TCB - I don't think I've ever tried canned lasagna. Was it good?
-
Good morning, all.
-
Many videos to watch. Goody, goody.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Great show, BK!
-
Good Morning to all

ASK BK
Part A
How did you think of doing the hidden tracks?
Part B
What is your favorite song and favorite outtake used as a hidden track?
-
ASK BK #2
Every thought of doing a Kritzerland evening of Partridge Family songs and getting Shirley Jones as a special guest?
-
ASK BK #3
Do you still have the recording of the Jewish Version of the Mothra Song from Jeepers Creepers: Great Songs From Horror Films?
It was one of the funniest things I ever heard and was dissapointed that it wasn't used as the hidden track instead of the other one.
-
Good morning, all!
-
This is strange: I was reading BK's notes and thinking today was Monday.
-
I dreamed that my brother Randy was helping me move and we needed some help to move my piano. Randy told me that Macbeth wanted to be involved and I refused.
-
DR JohnG, when my dad was diagnosed with cancer and went into chemotherapy, his oncologist told him that he could no longer drive while he was in therapy. It was the happiest news I'd had in some time since I was afraid I would be forced into ordering him to turn over the keys. Randy, Macbeth, and I had been discussing the issue of Dad Behind The Wheel, and as the oldest, I would have been the villain.
-
Today at City Center, Joshie and I will address a couple of charts, possibly work on the solo version of "Love for Sale." I have some tweaks to make in the Entr'Acte before it is turned over to the copyist.
-
Since saying good morning way up above there, I have watched and listened to the videos straight through with headphones, and they're wonderful.
-
Wednesday morning greetings! My friend Becky is coming in about an hour to accompany me to a discussion of Hillbilly Elegy at the library where my career began. The author, J. D. Vance, is the 2017 Casper Lecturer at Miami University-Middletown tomorrow evening.
-
10th poster after BK!
-
Such wonderful videos in the notes! Almost like being there!
-
Vibes for the father of DR JOHN G.
-
Two!
-
Thank you, all, for the vibes.
-
So, my doctor complains I haven't been in for a follow-up this year. But when I try to make an appointment, she has no availabilities.
-
Life. It is a mystery!
-
Sorry to hear about the problems with your dad DR JohnG!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Vibes for JohnG's father from us as well.
-
I'm up, I'm up, barely. I think I actually got eight hours of sleep.
-
So, my doctor complains I haven't been in for a follow-up this year. But when I try to make an appointment, she has no availabilities.
Sounds like my doctor.
-
And I am home. Joshie and I accomplished quite a bit, and he needs the time now to clean up the mess we made. Tomorrow morning the full company shows up for Meet & Greet.
-
So, my doctor complains I haven't been in for a follow-up this year. But when I try to make an appointment, she has no availabilities.
How rude! >:(
-
So here's today's fresh hell: In 1983, when it was announced that Skitch Henderson was beginning the New York Pops, I thought, Hmmm, maybe I can get a job as a staff arranger. So, I called Skitch, and he invited me to their first rehearsal. I was young and very naive then, and I took an orchestration to show him: "Waltzes from Anyone Can Whistle by Stephen Sondheim" that I had orchestrated for a conductor friend with Steve's blessing. I showed the score to Skitch and he asked if he could borrow it and look it over. I never heard a word from him again, even after sending him a registered letter and several phone calls asking for the return of the score. He never returned it.
In the 1990s, when Paul McKibbins was working for Sondheim with Warner Chappell, he called me and asked me, "Why am I holding a photocopy of your orchestration for the Waltzes?" I explained the NY Pops situation and it seems that Skitch had taken the score to the Sondheim office to see if they would pay the copy costs. Paul kindly made me a copy of my score.
After Skitch died and there was a search for a new musical director, Rob Fisher had done some guest shots, and he confirmed that there was a score ("I thought that was your hand!") and a set of parts. The piece had been programmed, and I was never paid for the work, invited to a rehearsal or concert. I was pissed, so, I called the Pops, spoke to the librarian, and got the materials sent to the MTI Concert Library. I just got off the phone with a friend at MTI who had emailed me today wondering what was the story of these Waltzes. Hopefully, they will go into the MTI Concert Library catalog.
And for the record, Skitch Henderson is one dishonest sonofabitch.
-
But, Larry....he was SKITCH HENDERSON!
-
So, my doctor complains I haven't been in for a follow-up this year. But when I try to make an appointment, she has no availabilities.
How rude! >:(
My doctor has communicated to me that there is a glitch with her schedule. They are working on sorting it out.
-
But, Larry....he was SKITCH HENDERSON!
And he was a good conductor. And dishonest.
-
Horrible story, Elmore.
-
It's a Knoxville 1915 kind of day.
-
I don't know of a comparable year for Oakland, but it's warm and fairly clear with a bit of haze.
-
Becky and I went to a very lively discussion of Hillbilly Elegy and then to lunch at Java Johnny's.
-
DR Elmore, I'm sorry to hear the way your dealing with Skitch Henderson turned out. That's really disappointing.
I have loved his justly famous Porgy and Bess recording since discovering it around 1965, but I don't know others and I never attended anything of his or met him. Their farm is thirty minutes from here, and I daresay you won't hear any such tales of Skitch in this region. :) But I much appreciate knowing about it, and it saddens me.
-
In other news, I received a package today. Oh yes, a package!
And owing to that package, I now possess the ability to capture content from my DVR in full 16x9 HD and 5.1 audio. I can store it on a drive and even burn it to disc in full HD.
This, to me, is invaluable for one-time broadcasts like Great Performances, the "live" musicals, and the occasional rarely shown film. Sometimes even when they do release the thing, they only do so in standard def. Space age, I tell you!
-
It's been too busy today. It's nice to have a short respite.
-
Page two? Really?
-
Had a great time doing the radio show with Kay - airs on Sunday.
-
We then lunched, discussed the new musical we're working on - me directing, she choreographing - and then the act I'm putting together for her for a July date.
-
Listening to more Lenny.
-
Getting ready to usher for The Price Is Right.
-
Good golly, Miss Molly. We ain't to page 3 yet?
-
It will only take a few more tries.
-
A couple of more sentences should do it.
-
Will this be the last one?
-
Page 3
-
DR ELMORE what a story!
-
A new musical!
-
That's quite some technology DR CHAS SMITH.
-
Living life on the cutting edge, DR Jrand66.
-
DR ELMORE what a story!
At least there weren't any hounds snapping at anyone's behind.

Tom (and anyone else interested in the traffic challenges of southwest Washington), Diverging Diamond Interchange comes to Washington State (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gLxlXamhgY).
WSDOT will build the state’s first Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at Interstate 5 and State Route 510 in Lacey. DDI’s are a proven way to move more people and reduce the potential for collisions by reducing conflict points. This project is scheduled to begin in the 2018 construction season.
At work we got an e-mail from our facilities manager about this, but I just noticed that the video was posted back in September. Anyway Tom, once this is finished, it'll be so much easier for you to get to the Hawks Prairie Restaurant! ;)
-
I didn't go anywhere, except for a short 3.5 mile walk today. Did anyone notice an absence of women working or simply out in the world?

Nope. Nothing out of the ordinary. :-\
-
Many schools across the country were closed due to lack of bus drivers, etc.
In case anyone is wondering why I asked it is because of the protest for Women's Day, "a day without women".

I knew that, but I didn't notice any lack of women around. I haven't heard of any specific demonstrations, either.
-
Well, I need to leave work.
Be back later.
-
I guess BK didn't like my questions. :-)
-
Where is everybody tonight?
-
Page three? Really?
-
Watching the end of The Tree of Wooden Clogs. One of the most heartbreaking endings to a movie I can remember.
-
And still one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen.
-
Hard to believe the cast is made up entirely of peasants playing peasants from another time.
-
I will have to get this on the next Criterion sale.
-
My latest Criterion shipment arrived today. Too many movies.
-
Moonlight came in at the library today.
-
Also, a movie called Black Magic based on a Dumas novel and starring Orson Welles. I'm not familiar with it.
-
Well, The Price Is Right Live was a hoot.
-
Tom Newton was the host.
-
Three people from my section of the balcony got called down, including one for the Showcase Showdown.
-
Most everybody who got to the stage was given at least $250 as a consolation prize.
-
No wonder the show was sold out.
-
People showed up as early as 8 a.m., for some unknown reason.
-
They were not amused when told that the bathrooms were not available until the doors opened at 6:30 p.m.
-
One more ...
-
Four!
-
Page four? Really?
-
Hello, 1 guest!
-
What's your favorite game show?
-
I've always been a Jeopardy fan, even as a kid.
-
But I also liked Password and Hollywood Squares.
-
One nice thing about ushering tonight was I got the balcony, which was busy, so I got to run a lot. I haven't been this active in ages.
-
I think I need to exercise more.
-
Talked to Mom today. Dad was asleep. She was a little calmer than yesterday. Hopefully things are back to normal.
-
The beginning of Black Magic is a gory, sordid affair with a young boy being whipped and his eyes supposed to be burned out.
I like.
-
Gratuitous Post No. 100.
-
I need to get a little work done.
-
ASK BK
Part A
How did you think of doing the hidden tracks?
Part B
What is your favorite song and favorite outtake used as a hidden track?
I can't remember what the first of them was - but the idea of it made me chuckle and once I began I couldn't stop.
I like the Jason Graae one about A Chorus Line, and of course I love the nightmare version of Getting Married Today.
-
ASK BK #2
Every thought of doing a Kritzerland evening of Partridge Family songs and getting Shirley Jones as a special guest?
I haven't and would never do such an evening :)
-
ASK BK #3
Do you still have the recording of the Jewish Version of the Mothra Song from Jeepers Creepers: Great Songs From Horror Films?
It was one of the funniest things I ever heard and was dissapointed that it wasn't used as the hidden track instead of the other one.
I'm sure it exists somewhere.
-
Page four? Really?
-
Finished with my viewing and listening to the 1950s cast recording of Candide.
-
My latest Criterion shipment arrived today. Too many movies.
I only ordered one movie from the Criterion sale, The Exterminating Angel (https://www.criterion.com/films/1076-the-exterminating-angel), which arrived Monday. I bought the Criterion release of The Discreet Charm Of The Bourgeoisie (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004Z1FM/) from Amazon. It's out of print and not available from Criteron, but now I have legitimate releases of both. :)
-
Good evening!
-

In case anyone is wondering why I asked it is because of the protest for Women's Day, "a day without women".
I knew that, but I didn't notice any lack of women around. I haven't heard of any specific demonstrations, either.
I figured you knew. That was a just in case or for anyone reading that didn't know :)
-
A slow day at HHW.
-
Page 4 at 10:30 p.m.
-
Today was the old actor's lunch.
-
This was the first time I had been since January.
-
Hard to believe the cast is made up entirely of peasants playing peasants from another time.
I looked it up on IMDB and wondered why the cast was not shown.
-
One of our old actor's is still in Europe until next week.
-
Most everybody who got to the stage was given at least $250 as a consolation prize.
Nice.
-
The old actor (age 71) has been touring Europe for the past month with his live-in girl friend (age 20).
-
Talked to Mom today. Dad was asleep. She was a little calmer than yesterday. Hopefully things are back to normal.
Fingers crossed.
-
No judgement here, but I wonder what vitamins he takes.
-

-
TCB - I don't think I've ever tried canned lasagna. Was it good?
It wasn't any worse than canned chili.
-
Today was the old actor's lunch.
Did you enjoy your afternoon?
-
What's your favorite game show?
Over the years, I've enjoyed (listed in alphabetical order):
America's Got Talent
The Gong Show
Hollywood Squares
Jeopardy
Last Comic Standing
Match Game
Password
The Price Is Right
Star Search
Wheel of Fortune
It's not really a game show, but I also love "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" :D

That looks very confusing.
-
Tonight we watched THE SHALLOWS with Blake Lively as a surfer who is attacked by a shark.
-
TCB - I don't think I've ever tried canned lasagna. Was it good?
It wasn't any worse than canned chili.
;D Is that a good thing or bad? I can't imagine eating either.
-
Anyway thee old actor's lunch was very nice.
-
I actually managed to eat a burger.
-
Tom, I was editing my post. Did you see my question?
-
I actually managed to eat a burger.
Does this mean you are feeling better?
-
Spell check keeps changing what I type and using Google my tablet at night hurts my shoulder. I am going good to read 😊
-
I am ready for Spring to arrive.
-
Perfect example, I never typed google.
-
Spring would be very welcomed.
-
TCB - I don't think I've ever tried canned lasagna. Was it good?

It is not a bad thing. I enjoy canned chili (or lasagna) once in a while. I am sure that the sodium and the preservatives make it a poor nutritional choice, but once in a while is not horrible.
-

Yes, we had a good time.
-
I actually managed to eat a burger.
Does this mean you are feeling better?
Yes, my mouth has healed enough to actually chew a burger. And yes, I am feeling pretty good.

Once in awhile it is ok.

Good night, Jane.

George, Hawk's Prairie sounds good.

I know! But construction is not supposed to start until next year, so it's probably not going to be done for a couple more years.
-
In case anyone wants to fly in for it, we are doing a fund raising performance of SECOND SAMUEL on Tuesday, March 28.

Great news, Tom!

We leave on Thursday the 30th for Boise, Idaho.
-
In the unbelievable department - the gal who's converting the book to an eBook for me found problems in the galley - I skimmed the beginning and the end and signed off on it, as did Grant because a finished PDF can't be changed other than them dropping in the copyright page. Only something got screwed up and in one section there are missing pages and repeated pages - it's a ten-page section - so I've written very strong e-mails to the publisher design person and we'll get it fixed tomorrow and quickly but they have to pull this from the printers now. Unbelievable.

I need to change computers.

I wondered what happened to that post.
I moved it...just because.
-
Actually, I was modifying it, wasn't thinking, and accidentally deleted it. So I reposted it.
-
And eating is better than wating.
-
It's actually one page - it goes from page 73, then instead of page 74, which is missing, there's page 79, then it goes to page 75 and then it's fine - so somehow they repeated page 79 where page 74 should be - I just don't get it - it makes no damn sense.

I'm not sure. I will find out on Monday.

Chris is currently in full "GYPSY Opening" mode, so we have to hold off questions until Monday.
-
I just got very nervous because I realized I'd never actually looked at what Grant sent them - obviously it should match what I have here as our final PDF and I'd think that what he sent was the same. So, I just checked out the PDF they were actually sent and - whew - it's correct.
-
Next week, the temperature is finally going to climb into the upper 50's. Spring, at last?
-
Chris is currently in full "GYPSY Opening" mode, so we have to hold off questions until Monday.
I think I want see this. Have you seen it, Tom?
-
Nope, not yet. My son, Jed, is playing Herbie.

I just saw that. I also saw that my friend Joe Woodland is in the show. I haven't seen him in a few years.

Somehow, a "quote" in the code became "quotve". Very strange.
