Well, you've read the notes, the notes were scary but turned out all right, and now it is time for you to post until the scary cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SMARAGDINE!
-
Good morning.
-
How often does this happen?
-
We saw the tour of Finding Neverland tonight. We traded in tomorrow's great orchestra seat tickets because we are going to spend tomorrow with DR Kerry.
-
We were in the balcony, which also never happens.
-
We are spoiled.
-
First post after Laura, after BK!
-
I am home!
-
Just had to share.
;)
-
Today, I'm going to my sister's to help her clean up her garage. I'm sure that I'll be there a LOT longer than I really want to be. ::)
-
But I will have to leave by 5:45 pm at the latest because I'm ushering at 6 pm for the Pacific Northwest Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/event/harmony-sweepstakes-a-capella-festival/)! I sign up to usher for it every year. They always have great groups. It's rare that they get a dud, but it happens. Anyway, it'll be a really fun evening.
-
And now, to bed!
Have a great day, everyone!
-
Good morning. First post on the east coast!
-
BK,
I totally agree with you on INTERIORS. Woody should stick to comedy.

It's Saturday, and I'm awake this early. What is that all about?!?!!?
-
Good morning, all.
-
I would like to have slept later, myself, but it was not to be.
-
TCB asked:
Where do you find such a beautiful corned beef. Mine are always half fat.
First, I was going for the larger cuts the store had (2-1/2 to 3-1/2 pounds), which may or may not make a difference.
After it's cooked and the beef has "rested" for 20-30 minutes, I trim that big layer of fat from the one surface and gently scrape off whatever else is easily gotten. Sometimes there's an additional flap that more fat can be removed from. By then, even though corned beef is inherently fatty, you have a pretty lean piece of it. I carve it as best I can against the grain. This batch carved nicer than previous ones, perhaps because of the larger cuts.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept late, At 11, I have to head to City Center.
-
Joshie and I got a beautiful email from Jack Viertel, thanking us for the orchestrations, and calling us "Irv and Sid," It was really kind. He wrote:
You sent me straight to heaven today, where I expect to stay for the next ten days or so, breaking in to choruses of The Heaven Hop from time to time as the mood strikes.
Your devotion to the cause is admirable enough, but your inspiration and skill go way beyond that. The work is thrilling and I知 very humbled and happy to be the recipient of the thrill.
-
Today, we begin the incidentals. I have to do some links to assemble the Exit Music.
-
My friend Tim McDevitt, whom I met through Rob wen we were doing the early musicals series at Trinity Church in 2014, sent this photo from the sitzprobe. Tim's one of the Collegians on the Roberta recording.
-
Wonderful, Elmore!!!
-
DR John G, "I Happen To Like New York" may be my favorite orchestration that I did, but I'm very happy with much of the score. Josh's "Love For Sale" is really nice, and I think the things we wrote together are very seamless.
-
Last night we watched the original THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY, which we liked. Amazing what they could get that cat to do.
We also watched APRIL SHOWERS with Jack Carson and Ann Sothern. There was a good movie rolling around somewhere in there, but they couldn't find it.

It was completely unexpected, but so nice.

Super nice :)
-
Hi DR Michael. You are looking good.
-
Saturday morning greetings! We have a quiet Saturday until late afternoon when we'll leave for a 5pm service in Dayton at which they'll have a guest priest - Fr. Richard. After the service we'll probably make a couple of shopping stops and grab some dinner. Meanwhile, I've made chicken salad and plan to putter at my art desk for a bit.
-
DR Elmore, I'm so happy for you about the glowing reception for your work. Richard and I are so looking forward to seeing the show and being part of your HHW cheering section!

Good Morning To All
Nice new avatar, Michael.
-
A very rainy morning in Tacoma.
-
It is expected to dry out this afternoon and give us two days of sunshine.

What a beautiful note. That is thrilling, and so completely deserved! Congratulations, and here's to a thoroughly wonderful upcoming week!
-
I felt really drowsy earlier and went back to bed.
Because I could.
Fell into a nice long nap, and now I'm having a piece of coffee cake with my coffee and feeling much more like facing a day.
-
Good morning, all.

Nice avatar, DR Michael.

How did you like Finding Neverland, DR Laura?
-
A very rainy morning in Tacoma.
Here as well.
-
DR Vixmom and anyone else watching for a baby to be born. I just read this.....
"Saw an interesting interview with the owner of the facility that's housing April, the pregnant giraffe. The reason for the confusion regarding her due date is that -- despite the lengthy 15-month pregnancy -- giraffes cycle every *17* days (pretty amazing!), and they don't know which time she actually conceived. They started counting with the first mating but had no idea whether it "took" or not (obviously, it didn't). So it's not that she's late...."
-
It is expected to dry out this afternoon and give us two days of sunshine.
I hope it is clear while we have company tomorrow.
-
Great Food Fotos from DR VIXMOM and DR CHAS SMITH yesterday in celebration of SPD.
Nice email the DR ELMORE received!!! Continued success vibes for THE NEW YORKERS!
Cole Porter - Indiana boy......we have visited his old stomping grounds in Pee-Ru.....very interesting. And I once met one of his lady cousins......she was very short and had PINK hair.....and was wearing a mink stole in August.
-
I'm up, I'm up - maybe nine hours of sleep.
-
Thanks to DR GEORGE for the GYPSY report.....he did not tell us if Rose POPPED and ROLLED her eyes and clacked her dentures like Imelda Staunton did....hopefully.....not.
And of course, in Staunton's GYPSY, between HER and the homely actresses playing the daughters, you could only imagine Herbie was staying around because he liked the Newsboys.
-
TOD:
Diane Keaton:
No favorite
Geraldine Page:
Nothing, but especially NOT Sweet Bird of Youth when she was supposed to be a beautiful movie star.....when she mostly looked like a mud fence......
E.G. Marshall:
I mostly know him from television.....
-
Geraldine Page:
DEAR HEART
SUMMER AND SMOKE
-
E.G. Marshall:
THE DEFENDERS-tv show
-
Diane Keaton:
PLAY IT AGAIN, SAM
LOVERS AND OTHER STRANGERS (cuz I love the movie more than her performance)
SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE
-
The rain has stopped and the sun is making an appearance. Looking out the window I counted 16 sailboats on the river :)
-
At least Keith saw the email cancelling tomorrow before he picked up a few more things. I guess I needed to clean anyway. Better the guest not come and give us the flu or possibly pneumonia, he will know about that once his x-rays have been taken.
-
I think Diane Keaton is a fine actress, but don't like anything from the last two decades, mostly to do with the films themselves. But she's great in Play It Again, Sam (which I also saw her do on Broadway), Annie Hall, and Manhattan, and she's wonderful in Reds.
-
E.G. Marshall - so many great performances outside of his TV work - some of my favorites are 12 Angry Men, Pushover, The Caine Mutiny, The Bachelor Party, Compulsion, The Chase, to name but a few.
-
E.G. Marshall was great in everything he did. I just don't associate him with the films. I should watch them again.
-
We mustn't forget his turn in CREEPSHOW! :)
-
Except for Something's Gotta Give, I agree about Diane Keaton over the last 20 years. She's generally better than the material.
-

That is lovely, that's a letter to be treasured

Finally caught up with Best Worst Thing that Ever Could Have Happened, the documentary about Merrily We Roll Along. More in the notes. It's finally on the Flix of Net - I don't know why it's not under new releases or trending now or newly added or whatever - it's like they don't want people to see it. It's not like I haven't watched other show biz documentaries. Searching it was frustrating, too - took a while to find it.
-
Went to another nearby Rite Aid for my cherry chocolate chip - none. Here's what this means to me: Once again, I write about something in the notes and once again everyone goes out and buys it all up. I can only tell you that until I wrote repeatedly about it, you could find the pre-packaged cherry chocolate chip at EVERY SINGLE Rite Aid. Coincidence? I don't know... I bought a quart from the actual ice cream counter, so that should last a while.
-
Best Worst Thing is on Amazon video, too. Just looked to see if there's any hint of a release. Nothing yet.
-
I am tired, and happy. It's been a long day, and all the orchestrations are finished. Today, Joshie and I did the Curtain Calls paste-up, and wrote the Opening of Act I, several transitions, and the Wedding March.
-
Joshie has some library fixes to make in the scores tomorrow, so I am staying home and having a day for myself. this next week is hectic, and I may do some laundry.

Doesn't matter. I've still had the song in my head despite a day of listening to singer songwriters. My favorite was Curtis McMurtry, grandson of Lonesome Dove author Larry McMurtry. He says he writes mean songs. They are. Mean and funny.

I am home from SXSW.

Too much to do before Wednesday.
-
Giada and Anne Burrell were at Rachael Ray's house party.
-
Elmore, I think I remember you being a Michael Valenti fan. I found something of his over the weekend called Music in Search of a Musical.
Haven't had time to listen to it yet.

In case there are any lovers of Marc Blitzstein or avant-garde dance films. This one's a beaut.
-
Came across it in a collection called Viva la Dance: The Beginnings of cine-dance.
Too many are not dances using humans, but animated dances.

Good evening!
-
Hi, John!

Page 3? Really?
-
Where is everyone?

You would think this was a Saturday.
-
Everybody has probably been watching basketball.
-
One more post.

Greetings, 2 Guests!
-
The rain has officially stopped.
-
The sun actually came out this afternoon.
-
How was your weather today, John?
-
I guess John has left the building.
-
I am having a hard time posting.
-
I don't know if it is my laptop.
-
Or possibly, God forbid, the site.
-
Tomorrow I need to go pick up my laundry.
-
I was going to go this morning, but it was raining.
-
So, I decided to wait until the afternoon when the rain stopped.
-
By the time it stopped, I was too lazy to go.
-
I really need to clean up the clutter around this joint.
-
I get so much junk mail it is ridiculous.
-
And catalogs! I can't believe the number of catalogs I receive.
-
Plus I get flyers from every cruise line, not just the ones I have traveled with.
-
Cunard sends me so many flyers and brochures you would think I was a long-time customer.
-
I wish. My one dream cruise is the Queen Mary II.
-
Oh well, maybe in the next lifetime.
-
Oh yes, plus I also get bills in the mail.
-
But they don't end up in my junk pile.
-
At least, I don't get all of those political ads right now.
-
I can't say the same about my e-mail.
-
I get dinged by every political organization looking for funds.
-
Chuck Berry has died.
-
He must have been 90 years old.
-
Oh, he actually was 90.
-
He certainly had a long and successful life.

One more post.

I have to get my apartment cleaned up before I go to Boise.

Betzy is going to be staying here, and the place is a mess.

I hope I remembered to plug in my scooter.
-
Whew! I did.
-
Let me see, I think George is ushering again tonight.
-
I guess I won't wait for him to arrive.
-
Julia Louis-Dreyfus and her husband, Brad Hall, were at the Gonzaga vs Northwestern basketball game today. There son plays for Northwestern.
-
A friend called to tell me that he saw BEAUTY AND THE BEAST last night and really enjoyed it.
-
I had mentioned to him yesterday that the movie had gotten some mixed reviews.
-
So, I guess he needed to call me back and give me his seal of approval.
-
I told him that I didn't write the mixed reviews, I just saw them.
-
I still want to see the movie.
-
And I am sure I will enjoy it.
-
Of course, I like the stage musical.
-
But then I like musicals in general.
-
I need to switch computers.
-
Jane, yes, in LA every Rite Aid has a Thrifty ice cream counter.
-
Back from a mediocre Mexican dinner and perhaps the worst production of Company in history - and I've seen some doozies. I won't be mean in the notes - I'll let Rob do the review. Horrid, misguided direction, stupid set, terrible actors and canned Casio-style tracks.
-
I hope I can read Rob's review.
-
I love a good brutal review, unless I am in the production.
-
I don't know if it will be brutal or not - if it was me it would absolutely be brutal.
-

That's wonderful, Larry! Congrats to you and Josh!
-
I'm home and have been for about an hour.
-
The Harmony Sweepstakes was almost entirely filled! All of the groups were really good. One group (a women's trio) was definitely the weakest, but they didn't embarrass themselves. My friend Margo had heard that they just got a new member, so they still have some work to do...but they weren't bad, by any means.
-
There was one women's barbershop quartet that inly sang two songs in their 10 minute time slot! They got up there and started talking, and each group only has 10 minutes exactly, but their talking counts, so they only got two songs in...but they won! :o
-
You can be knocked down a place if you go over, so we think that's how they won. Another group that was the audience favorite went over he allotted, so the women's quartet won by default. :-\
-
Don't get me wrong, they were very good, but it was a surprise that they won with only two songs.
-
Those are the rules.
-
And since we're so close...
-
PAGE SIX DANCE!!
