Well, you've read the notes, the notes were neither fixed nor broken, and now it is time for you to post until the fixed and broken cows come home.

I think it is really terrible that you can't get the original version of a musical to produce.  You should be given a choice of the original or the revised edition.

I know!  It's kind of like how the original theatrical version of "Star Wars" should also be made available!

Certainly, THE SOUND OF MUSIC and CABARET should give you a choice between the original stage productions and the often revised productions.  Newer isn't always better.

Follies has the same issues - I would ONLY produce the original script.

That is why I am so grateful that you can get all three versions of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND.  The original version is far better, to me, than either of the newer versions.

A slightly irritating dream, and feeling very slightly chilled, woke me up a little too early.

But not TOO too early, so not that bad.  Kicked the heat up slightly, fed the feline contingent, and there's a cup of coffee in front of me.

Sickening to hear about the state of COMPANY.

And...I'm a simple man...I don't understand why the original versions of these shows are verboten, should a company be willing and able to mount them.

Fortunately, we were spared any additional snow yesterday.  It flurried once or twice, nothing more.

But lest anyone get misty-eyed over the lack of new snow and the possible loss of old snow, I can assure you that last Tuesday's snow is still right here, right where I left it.

It just looks a little neater, with the bits stuck to the asphalt and sidewalks having receded.  The other parts are still as high as an elephant's eye.

The laundry is in the washers.  I have to make my bed ande pick up the flotsam and jetsam of the past weeks.  I can toss all the detritus of "The New Yorkers" and get ready for whatever project comes down the pike next.

I really have little interest in doing anything today. If I get my energy up, I might walk a block and see "Beauty and the Beast."  If I don't leave the aartment today, I'm perfectly content.  The next two weeks are going to be busy.

And who knows what version you are going to get when you produce GREASE.

There are three (maybe four versions) available.

The original
Movie songs
High school version (Lyrics and dialogue cleaned up)

The also did the "original" version somewhere (I think Chicago) where it was "tougher" Language and Lyrics before it was changed for Broadway

Then there are all the high school and junior versions of musicals. For example I believe Into The Woods Junior only uses the first act!

COMPANY!!!  I loved the original Broadway cast album so much - played it until it was almost worn out.....then got the CD.

I bought the Roundabout CD - a was disappointed.....put it away and continued to play the OBC.  Of course I also enjoyed the documentary about the making of the LP.

I saw a production last fall at DePauw which included the revisions, which I didn't much like.  I have the DVD of the version featuring Raul What'shisname, and I watched the one with NPH on PBS, which I didn't care for.....

It is very sad that the original version is NOT available - but as the recent THE GLASS MENAGERIE proves - no show is a match for a bone headed director......

I just got a text from a TAO board member working on their production of 1984, asking if I would be able to help set up the sound board before my union board meeting at 2:30.  I said that I can, so now I have to get ready for my union board meeting much earlier.  It shouldn't take too long, but I also need to shower and get dressed and eat.

Have a good day, all!

It was a great deal of fun, but also a lot of people giving way to more people. I'm just glad i didn't try to get to the free shows that Garth Brooks and Lady Antebellum gave. No thank you.

I didn't discover Company until after falling or A Little Night Music. But fall for it I did. I even did one of my master's degree classes on the show. I understand one of the changes made to the show, and that's dropping of Tick Tock, but I don't like it. It really shows how miserable and empty Bobby's sex life is. But not providing that orgasmic release of Tick Tock is as anti-audience as Sondheim not wanting people to applaud at the end of Rose's Turn.

Found a copy of the Samuel Ramey Kismet for $1. They tried to tell me it was two discs and the second disc was lost, but it's actually one of those oversized packages that Columbia used to do.

Some of the singing, especially Julia Migenes, good. Others (Jerry Hadley) is not so hot. I'm so not looking forward to Mandy "Chile" Patinkin's take on Zubbedayia (sp?)

Had fun at the paperback book show.  I've learned over the years not to bring many books - the authors signing at this show sign for free and people bring in all their books - very few actually purchase anything.   Funnily, the only book sold was my one and only extra hardback of Thrill Ride - someone saw the cover and couldn't resist.  :)  Grant Geissman was there and we spent a couple of hours looking at stuff, then we went to the Coral Cafe where I had the chicken strips, a small salad, and some sweet potato fries.  Filling.

Woody Allen once said that the movies in his head are never the movies he ended up with. Seeing the scenes in the before starting the movie, I think the same thing happened with this one.

I won't argue this.  He was not our pick for best actor.

We recently saw A UNITED KINGDOM and preferred it to Manchester.  The performances by, IMHO, David Oyelowo & Rosamund Pike were terrific.

San Antonio's mayor, whom I dislike, has chosen an odd selection for the next citywide read. We've had "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "The Bicycle Thief" in the past. Now we're going to read "Art of the Pie: A Practical Guide to Homemade Crusts, Fillings and Life" by Kate McDermott. Very weird. But I look forward to chapter on rhubarb pie.

I looked up "The Bycicle Thief" is that by Gunter Schaule?  There is another book with that title which is a Hardy Boys mystery.

Well, it turns out that my union's board meeting is NEXT WEEK! :o I arrived at the union office and waited for a bit.  There was only one other car in the parking lot and that person (Nicole) was also on our board.  She got out and we started talking and then we realized that the e-mails that we received had the subject of "Meeting on March 19," but within the body of the e-mail message was "the meeting is on the 26th, right?"  Several people had confirmed, and even Nicole had confirmed, but evidently forgotten.  I know that I never noticed the specified date in the e-mail body...just the subject line. ::)

:P

For the most part.  When I left at about 2:15, it was mostly complete.  I did come back in the evening and we worked on it a bit more.

Since we pretty much got most of the sound board set up, I didn't go back to the theater after the board meeting that didn't happen.  I decided to lunch at Wendy's.  I ate (grilled chicken BBQ salad) and read my Kindle ("Hidden Figures").

How is that salad?

When I was finished at Wendy's, I went to Costco to get some water for the theater's concessions and for the actors.  I went home after that since it was too early to get back to the theater for the board's feeding of the actors and crew.  When I left to get food for the dress rehearsal in the evening, I went to Taco Bell and got the Box of Tacos.  That's what I usually get for these board-provided meals.  I get 6 crunch tacos with beef and 6 soft tacos with beans (there are usually a vegetarian or two in our productions).

It's not too bad.  They usually give a separate packet of dressing, but today, they put the dressing directly on the salad and I didn't get a packet.  I wonder if they were out of them.  I would've liked a little more of the dressing. ;)

When I got to the theater at a little after 6 p.m., I thought that they were going to have a run-through, but they ran act one after I left for my non-existent meeting.  They ran act two, so I at least got to see that.

Both handicapped spots were taken, AND someone had parked their pickup truck between the spots blocking the ramp.

How rude! >:(

We don't have a Wendy's near by.  I would have to settle for Taco Bell.

If you ever decide to go, go to the one in Fife, not the scuzzy one on Portland Avenue.
