Well, you've read the notes, the notes were like a lurid paperback, and now it is time for you to post until the paperback cows come home.

I had a fantastic day to myself yesterday.  I listened to a lot of music, read a bit of The Boleyn Inheritance -Lady Rochford, Jane Boleyn, fascinates me - and prepared two packages for posting tomorrow when I'm at the post office a block from my physical therapy.

I had the damnedest dream early this morning, one that I am absolutely convinced returned me to the setting of one I had several months ago.  I've done that a few times in my life.

First there was a dream involving some D minor seventh chords which eventually morphed into this "sequel" dream.  It was shorter than the original dream, and didn't involve the extensive physical and geographical setting, but I totally recognized the place.  And now, awake, I can still recall a lot about that original dream and I just "know" it wasn't something manufactured this time.

One of my favorite films of Buster Keaton's I saw as a child was a short film he made for The National Film Board of Canada called THE RAILRODDER. A 24 minute film as he rides across Canada on a mini train (best i can call it)

Incidentally, are you aware that THE GENERAL was based on an actual incident during the Civil War?

In the 1950s, Disney made a dramatic film based on the incident.  It was called THE GREAT LOCOMOTIVE CHASE, and it starred Fess Parker and Jeffrey Hunter.

My choices for Vocal Director are somewhere who is very good, but who cannot be there a lot OR someone who is good and can be there - but who I don't like much.......

My problem with someone who can't be there, is that I get in the middle of blocking a song or choreography - and some dumb ass can't remember what he is supposed to sing or TWO people think two different things about what is supposed to be sung......I am not savvy enough about music to know who might be right....and if the Vocal Director isn't there....the train grounds to a stop.....

I think you know the choice that you have to make...as difficult as it is.  I've been in shows with both those scenarios, and as much as I don't like working with people I don't like (which, fortunately, has been rare) it's so much better to have someone there at all times, especially if they know what they're doing. :-\

Going to hospital pharmacy at 3 p.m. to renew a prescription.

Oh, man, my head is about to explode.  I picked up a package, a little flat 9x12 envelope containing two little theater programs from that theater in San Diego where I saw The Most Happy Fella - it had been "opened for inspection" by the USPS.  So, I wanted to find out in what universe they thought it was okay to open a privately mailed package mailed IN CA TO CA.  I spent twenty minutes with their automated system and I was ready to just go down to the post office and start screaming.  You literally could not even get an option to speak to someone - customer service, agent, nothing worked.  I finally started screaming into the phone and something I said finally got the connection to customer service after which I was told it would be an hour on hold.  I hung up, called the local branch and got a person on the phone right away.  She said if it's media mail they have the right to inspect and they do it because these eBay jerks and others abuse it all the time, or try.  I said I wasn't sure what could be in a completely flat large padded envelope that could be abuse - certainly not an explosive device - she said something about letters - how can you have a media mail package with 2.83 postage that contain letters - how is that abusing and how would the sender save money doing it?  I looked up what you can send and while it's limited it does cover a lot of stuff.  I was furious but just got off the phone.  Add to that all these cretins doing all this home building work, including now my next door neighbor who has clearly been doing something in his house - these idiots are literally taking every parking space within two blocks and I have HAD it, and that's my next call because certainly people who LIVE in these locations must have some rights.

Yesterday I went to my younger niece's swim meet. She just joined the swim team this year (like her big sis).  She did so well.  She is only 7 but has to swim with/against 8 year olds (which is a big difference at that age). She came in 4th in all 3 of her races. She was such a champ. Her expertise is the backstroke. She took 6 seconds off her 50m time. And she even did the flip turn perfectly. It was so exciting to see her succeed.  The semi finals are the end of April. Looking forward to it.

I am home from podiatrist and City Center.  The tech rehearsal went very well, and Joshie and I are happy with the several cues from Saturday's work session.  At the end of rehearsal we heard the Bows and Exit Music as well.

The sound still needs more adjustment but it was sounding rather good today, and I hear it's even better in the balcony.

I'm havign balance issues.  I lost it and fell down the stairs from the stage to auditorium, so I was cautiously taking my riume at the end of rehearsal to get back up them.  I scared our leading man Tam Mutu, and he ran up to offer me his hand, which was really kind of him.  Joshie also saw the situation and came to my rescue as well.  Tomorrow I qwill be more careful.

I think a lot of people are going to like the absurdity and silliness of this show, but there will be some who foolishly will find it old-fashioned, stupid, and not what they think a serious musical should be.  As I said to John Rando the director today, there was a time when the genre was musical comedy.

BETTER IN THE BALCONY - that should be the title of something!

Balance vibes for Larry!  Please tale care of yourself.

Congrats to your younger niece, Jennifer!

Thank you.

Reading is done - no surprises for me - it went exactly as I knew it would and the reaction was also just as I knew it would be so I took lots of notes, will type them up, and then make them positive things for the authors to think about.

I also need to stop watching De-Lovely, which I started for some reason. I knew the movie was bad, but I had forgotten how horrible they made the music sound.

Poor Joshie the Cat was sick and I didn't know it. He had a visit to the vet today and got some fluids. He is 15, by the way. We are hoping the tests show that it is his thyroid.

I would hope that they can reprint the ticket if you bring the credit/debit card that was used to pay for it.  The Washington Center for the Performing Arts can do that.  Good luck!

I wonder how George's first rehearsal is going.

It went well.  It was mostly a cue-to-cue.  The director, Jim, had put the sounds into the sound board program.  It's the exact same program that TAO uses, so I know how to use it quite well. :)

Jim's wife Susan (I found out that they've been married for 47 years!) is running the light board.  She won't be able to do the performance on the one Sunday matinee, so Jim will run the board that day.  She asked how many performances I would be running the board and I said the whole run.  She seemed to have not expected that, and was happy about that!

Would that be Jim Patrick?

I then mentioned that because TAO is running their show, 1984, at the exact same time, I wondered if I might have one night off, she said that it would no problem.  Jim even confirmed that and said that he would be able to run the sound board for me, so I'll now get to see TAO's show!  Hoo and Ray!! ;D

I won't ask for the night off during this first weekend, but the only other night off that I won't be able to ask for is the Sunday matinee when Susan won't be there.
