Well, you've read the notes, the notes went backwards like Merrily We Roll Along, and now it is time for you to post until the backwards cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MISCIBLE!
-
I couldn't wait to hear BK's notes on Fun Home, since he joined us for the show. I so agree with his verdict.
Who of us wishes that newer musicals would not depart entirely from providing at least a couple of memorable songs? Melodies you want to sing, or at least listen to again?
None were to be had in Fun Home, though the story and characters are poignant.
Enjoy your Friday everyone. :)
-
Where has Larry been? Still out celebrating, I hope!
-
Thanks to Jane, TCB and George - for the comments last night!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I went to bed at 9:00. I was really tired.
-
I have a request for each DR coming to tomorrow's matinee. Will you please get a second Playbill for me? There are never any floating around backstage, and I could use a few.
-
This moring I have auditions for Moonshine & Mistletoe and then lunch with our DR JohnG. I'm meeting my college friend Matthew for dinner before I head down to City Center. He saw The New Yorkers last night.
-
I wanted to see Fun Home when Rebecca Luker replaced Judy Kuhn, but I had no money. It was during my period of little work. I cannot say that I am an admirer of either Ms Tesori or her music. Or Ms Kuhn, for that matter.
-
Thank you all for the nice words about the Times review. We got two online pans, one from Jesse Green, who will be the new Times co-critic, and one from Theatremania. I huess the show fits neither their sense of fun or their concept of what period musical comedy should be,
-
Good morning, all.
-
I read the Theatremania review and was left wondering if the writer had any idea what he was seeing.
-
He might've been like my musical loving coworkers, who like Book of Mormon has a highly original score.
-

But note that Jesse Green right upfront praised "the silky gorgeousness of the orchestrations."
-
Larry - How did you find about about that great Times review? Were you just checking around online, or did someone from City Center call you to tell you about it?
The Times review is really the one that will tell history that this was worth all of Jack Viertel's faith in the project and all of you guys

City Center posted the review yesterday.

It was still a pan review.

Absolutely.
-
I've got to decide whether to drive into town or take the train tomorrow.
-
Say the plans again...
We're meeting at Lillie's, at what time? 11:00 or 11:30?
-
Waiting for the pills to take effect and for the hair to dry before braving the morning.
-
Lunch with Elmore. Dinner with Yoli, a friend from my Florida days. Then Amelie.
-
A lot of walking in between.
-
Vixmom, can you post again the time and address for tomorrow? Thank you.
-
Friday morning greetings! We're heading to Bloomingdales today to try to replace the bathroom rugs I bought there 12 years ago. Pray for Rosemary's baby...

Recovery vibes for DR DRUXY.

Enjoyed reading MR BK's thoughts on FUN HOME.....I, too, only know it from what I saw on the Tony Awards Broadcast.....but I don't really like much of what I've heard of it here and there.....Tesori.....meh.
-
DR JOHN G is waiting for his hair to dry.
This is a concept I cannot understand.

Thanks, DR JRand - wish you were here!
-
I'm up, I'm up - alarm didn't go off so this iPad, first generation so five or six years old, is toast.
-
That would be wonderful DR GINNY - maybe someday!
-
Am expecting a John G-Larry Elmo photo to be posted here ASAP.
-
I'm home. Thank you for all the kind wishes. I've very tired, so I will (hopefully) be back on track in a day or two.

R.I.P. iPad, first generation. :'(

;)
-
As of this morning, my four-year-old cell phone's battery is refusing to charge above 90%.
I realize that at that age it doesn't owe me much. I'd like it to at least get me through the weekend.
-
More recovery vibes for Druxy!!!

Lovely lunch with Larry. I hope someone can post the photo. I can't do it from my phone.
-
It was a lovely lunch, and I am home for a brief nap before I head off to dinner and the show.

You could keep the iPad and get Alexa to wake you.

Nice!

We are back from a trip to Bloomingdales that was a bust rug-wise, despite some expert shopper assistance from E & T DR Jose. I did get some new cosmetics and a gift-with-purchase from Estée Lauder and we spent some time at Dylan's Candy Bar. Richard took us to lunch at a lovely Greek restaurant and we then did walk-bys at Central Synagogue and St. Peter's. Jose walked us to our subway station and we found our way home. Relaxing now before heading down the street for the organ recital and Annunciation Eve choral mass.
-
Brooklyn Diner!
Did anyone have the pastrami macaroni?
-
Nice photo.
DR DRUXY reports on BookFace that he is home and recovering.
-
He reported it right here earlier, I think.
-
Back from a delightfully delightful luncheon with Sandy and Doug - Genghis Cohen and for once the day chef was as good as the night chef - in fact, the meal was rather perfectly perfect and I didn't overeat.
-
Picked up a couple of packages.

Here's a write-up about TAO's 1984: The themes of Orwell’s ‘1984’ resonate in today’s fractured society (http://www.theolympian.com/entertainment/arts-culture/article140213918.html).
And here's an actual review:
http://olyarts.org/2017/03/23/review-1984/
This is not a fun play to watch. There is absolutely nothing entertaining about it, yet 1984 is a play that should be seen by everyone. In 1949 it was a vision of a possible future; today it is a vision of emerging reality from which we cannot hide.

Good evening from the Big Apple!
-
My friend Todd, who's here from Florida, met me for lunch at Junior's. He had gone to "Do--Cookie Dough Confections" this morning. It's apparently the latest fad--the line can take up to four hours. He got me a little cup of brownie dough. Very tasty, but I can't imagine waiting in line for 1 hour, let alone 4.
-
Todd already had a ticket for War Paint. I stopped by the theatre and got a rush seat for $40. It's on the side, 7 seats from the aisle, but in the third row. The man at the box office said it was not a partial view seat. I looked at Ticketmaster and saw that the seat three seats to the left of mine is selling for $250.
-
Looking forward to seeing the group tomorrow and meeting John G for the first time!
-
I made my hotel reservation through Hotwire.com. When I tried to check in they had a reservation in my last name, but the first name was Joseph. After checking the confirmation number it was determined that it was my reservation after all. Not sure how that happened---my confirmation email clearly shows Kevin.
-
Thanks to those who sent travel vibes !
-

Ha ha!!!

I must have missed the missive from DR DRUXY that was reported by DR CHAS SMITH.
Looks like it will be FINE weather for the HHW Gathering tomorrow!
E & T DR JOSE is always so busy......it was nice that you were able to meet up with him DR GINNY.

That's great, Kevin! I hope it's good!
-
Well, I'm off. First, I need to print some programs for tonight's performance of 1984 that I won't be seeing...yet, anyway. Then, I'm going to my parents' house for our weekly family dinner. Then I'm going to The Midnight Sun to drop off the money till and programs for the opening night of 1984. Then I'm going to Olympia Little Theatre to run the sound for the opening night of The Trip to Bountiful.
-
After the show, I'll go back to The Midnight Sun to pick up the money till so that I can count the money from their opening night. Then I'll probably just go right home. Whew! I haven't heard if anything's happening after either show, but we'll see.
Until later!
-
Decided to drive the car into town tomorrow. My weekend train schedule isn't nearly as flexible as the weekday one, and I got a parking reservation for $22 (count 'em) smackers.
Vixmom: The ICON at 1700 Broadway. You have to be there by 10 am and out by 10 pm to get that price.

Welcome to Dear New Reader Joseph.

I love the photo of DR John & DR elmore :)

If not at least it was only $40 ;)

It sounds like DR Ginny had a nice day with former DR Jose, though I would only have wanted to food shop with him ;D

Welcome to Dear New Reader Joseph.
:)
-
Looking forward to seeing the group tomorrow and meeting John G for the first time!
I am, too.
-
Page three? Really?
-
Saw Amelie tonight. It was OK. The sound of the music was definitely not traditional Broadway, not Gallic, but some sort of soft rock that left little impression. I liked a few numbers. The staging was better and more interesting than the show. Not having seen Hsmilton, I did not know Ms Soo, the star, but her disciples were out in full force.
-
I wonder if it will make it. It is rather gossamer. What She Loves Me might have seemed to another generation. If only Georg had worked in a sex toy shop.
-
Let's move on...
-
Four!
-
Got a ticket for War Paint tomorrow night, so I'll be interested in hearing what Kevin thinks of the show.
-
Ginny, can you tell me the name of the place we're meeting at tomorrow?
-
I put the information on my computer and then decided not to bring the computer with me.
-
Ginny, can you tell me the name of the place we're meeting at tomorrow?
Lillie's on 49th between 6th and 7th Avenues.

Thank you, Ginny.
-
11:30, right? Not 1:30.
-
Good night, all.
-
We had a rousing show tonight/ The audience was loud and enthusiastic. I was very happy with it.
-
I can sleep late tomorrow and plan on it.
-
Back from War Paint. I enjoyed it very much even though it's about a subject that I'm not very interested in. My seat was really great (especially for $40)! The songs aren't particularly memorable but they work for the show. The leads, Patti Luoine and Christine Ebersole, were terrific and John Dossett and Doug Sills were too.
-
It sounds like DR Ginny had a nice day with former DR Jose, though I would only have wanted to food shop with him ;D
Doesn't candy count? 😎
Yes it does 😃
-
DR Ginny what candy did you have?

So much excitement in The Big Apple.

-
I wish I could be there tomorrow.
-
I would love to see Larry's show.
-
And, of course, meet all the regulars that I have yet to meet.
-
Actually, I guess Kevin is the only one of the group that I have actually met.
-
Although I feel like I know so many of them.
-
Great photo of John and Elmore.

Hello, BK!
-
Greetings, 1 Guest!
-
I would love to see THE NEW YORKERS.
-
I would also like to see COME FROM AWAY.
-
I would also like to see George Takei in PACIFIC OVERTURES, but I guess I would be a week early for that show.
-
I'm sure I could find something else to see.
-
I am sure you could.

Good night, Jane.

Hi, George.

I'm home. And there was nothing happening after TTtB, so I just left and went to The Midnight Sun to pick up the money till. They had 27 people in the audience! Several were comps, but still that's great!
-
Hi, George.
Hi, Tom.
-
The Trip to Bountiful went well. They were about 1/2 full, which I think is about 50. There was only one or two line goobers, but I don't think the audience could tell.
-
We had a rousing show tonight/ The audience was loud and enthusiastic. I was very happy with it.
Congrats, Larry!
-
I wish I could be there tomorrow.
Me, too!

Congratulation on TAO's review from Alec.
I'd thank you, but I had nothing to do with it, so I'll just agree (even though I've only seen the second act).
-
Well, you are on the board, so you should get some of the credit.
