Well, you've read the notes, the notes had short-term memory loss of the third kind, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently suffering from short-term MOOmory loss.
-
And the word of the day is: COTERMINOUS!
-
First post after BK!
-
Today, I'll get to sleep in, but I will have to get up and get out of my house because I have a union meeting to go to.
-
I thought that the meeting was last Sunday, and so did one other board member (at least I wasn't alone in that mistake), but it really is today at 2:30 pm.
-
When I get back, I have some laundry to do and TV watching to ketchup on.
-
Sorry, George, I got a phone call.
-
Did I enjoy GYPSY? Parts of it.
-
Sorry, George, I got a phone call.
No prob. :)
-
Did I enjoy GYPSY? Parts of it.
Well, that's better than none of it. ::)
;)
-
Sharry was watching tonight's performance, because next Saturday night she will be playing Tessie Tura.
-
Good night, George.
-
Sharry was watching tonight's performance, because next Saturday night she will be playing Tessie Tura.
Cool! Was that planned or a last minue thing?
-
Good night, George.
Good night, Tom.
-
The woman who is playing Tessie Tura in GYPSY is so in the cast of THE ADAMMS FAMILY.
-
Many thanks to BK and his creating HHW, for bringing people together
-
She will be in Boise next Saturday for the regional festival, and even though she will be flying back to Tacoma after their 5:00 p.m. performance, it is just too close (time wise) to guarantee that she would make it back in time to do the show.
-
The first time TLT did GYPSY, Sharry played Gypsy Rose Lee. The next time they produced the show, Sharry played Mama Rose. So, it is kind of fitting that she would make an appearance in this production, even if only for one performance.
-
I just wish I could see that performance.
-
Oh well, it is probably the only time in my life that I would rather be in Boise.
-
FJL, yes we met when you and Skip were in town. I guess I didn't realize you were joining the group today. So, I have met both you and Kevin; and also Jose who was a surprise guest today.
-
Sunday morning greetings! Fr. Richard is up and about getting ready for 11am mass, but I'm just relaxing with my first cup of coffee.
-
DR Elmore, there was also a gunshot glitch in Miss Saigon that made the ending somewhat anticlimactic.
-
Good morning to all
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I managed to have the lazy sleep-in morning I needed.
-
I have a friend's production of EVITA to attend at 2 pm, but the rest of the day is mine.
-
Oh well, it is probably the only time in my life that I would rather be in Boise.
;D
-
Good morning!

Just saw this in the National Review:
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/446097/new-yorkers-musical-outstanding
"Under the baton of conductor Rob Berman, the 30-piece Encores! orchestra is right on stage throughout all the action. It beautifully performs Porter’s sophisticated melodies and lush, new arrangements by Josh Clayton and Larry Moore. These musicians are full of surprises, as just the right sound from a bell, triangle, or trombone, at just the right time, elicits fresh titters.
This is a splashy entertainment for fans of musical comedy and the Great American Songbook and anyone who happens to like New York."
-
Good morning, all!
-
If I had my druthers, I'd stay in bed all day and get up tomorrow morning. I may skip today's matinee at 3; I haven't decided yet.
-
It was so nice seeing everyone yesterday. I'm happy to have met DR JohnG finally. The New Yorkers was so much fun, with terrific songs. I was so happy for DR Elmore and that he was singled out at the talkback.
-
Tomorrow, I have to be at Avatar Studios by 9:30 for a 10:00-6 session on Moonshine & Mistletoe. I will most ikely go to ved as soon as I'm home. I have a whole week of this schedule.

Thanks, DR KevinH! Celia Berk posted a photo of the talkback, and I thought, I did not know what to do with my hands!

After leaving the diner I went to the Lyceum Theatre. I was approaching the box office and a man asked if I needed a ticket. He said one of his group of four couldn't make it. I asked how much. He said face value ($25). Ever the cynic, i asked why it was so cheap. He said because there was a special price when the tickets first went on sale a few months ago.
-
I forgot to mention that the show was "The Play That Gies Wrong."
-
"Goes" wrong
-
So, I agreed to buy the ticket. The woman scanned my ticket and said " please stand to the side. The manager wants to see you." Huh?
-
The other 3 people then came along and she told them the same thing.
-
Getting paranoid, I thought we were going to be told you can't buy or sell a ticket in the lobby. Of course that has nothing to do with the ticket being flagged in the computer.
-
Anyway, the manager finally arrived in about 5 minutes and said that the stage was set up in such a way that the tickets we had were now partial view so she had better seats for us

My amazing breakfast , home baked fig tart made with homegrown figs
Thank you John G, it was delicious!

I had tried to get a ticket for Sunday in the
Park with George, which my friend was seeing, but it was sold out. It's a good thing I didn't get a ticket because I most likely would have dozed off from time to time. That's what happened at the show I did see. And it's not so bad when you only pay $25.
-
Yes, thank you for the homemade tart, JohnG! I will have it later.

Ours was delicious, too! Thank you, John G!

So the show. I've come to the conclusion that a little farce goes a long way. While I admire the wonderful timing and talent of the actors and director and everyone else connected with the show, I just didn't think a lot of it was funny. I was clearly in the minority as the rest of the audience seemed to love it. Of course maybe I missed the best bits when my eyes were closed.
-
Beautiful photo of the tart, DR vixmom!
I will be enjoying mine in just a few minutes.
-
My phone takes the world's worst photos in this type of distance and lighting situation. If there were no other reason to get another phone, this one would be sufficient. That having been said, here is some smaller than usual photographic evidence of the boys speaking at the talkback.

OH MY GOD.
It's incredible.
Thank you so much, DR John G.
-
It's amazing. These are some well traveled tarts!
(Hmm. Was that line in "The New Yorkers"?)
-
DR KevinH, that was a great story about the ticket.
-
Just had a few bites of almond fig tart and I'm in heaven - thank you, DR John G!
-
Also just had a nice phone chat with DR Elmore.
-
After we left the group yesterday we taxied up to Lincoln Center to visit the TKTS location there. We were able to purchase tickets for today's matinee of THE GREAT COMET, but we're not sitting together. Film at 11...

I think I have found a new insult - to be said in sputtering indignation:

FFAD:
I was wondering if any of you could help me with a little project I'm working on. I need a list of songs from musicals that are about greed; and even better, about people behaving deceptively in the name of greed; like songs about con artists. But really, songs about greed in general would be good. Thanks!
-
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours and very groggy.
-
The NY adventure looks like it was fun and a smashing success.

I've read about The Play That Goes Wrong. Here's the thing: I did it already back in 1978 before anyone had - before Noises Off even. The entire last twenty minutes of Stages is exactly a play going wrong - everything. But here's the real thing about it - prior to the play going wrong (I wrote a little spoof of a Victorian melodrama, which we called He Shot the Gun), we show the audience the play going RIGHT. That's what's missing here and why I know that I would grow weary of The Play That Goes Wrong. We see everything work perfectly at the final "run-through" and then the audience knows what it's supposed to be when things start going wrong. We got HUGE laughs every night (no one had seen anything quite like it before) - gunshots not going off, sets malfunctioning, all of it, one thing after another. But without the set-up it wouldn't have nearly been as funny.
But let me illustrate further: I also did a similar thing in Together Again, trying to relive that - less successful - still funny, but less successful. This time it was a bad Equity Waiver/community theater production of an Importance of Being Ernest-type play, which we called He Begs to Differ. An understudy is on, one actress speaks so quietly you can't understand a word she says, the understudy forgets everything, the sets malfunction, etc. But this time, there was no context of "right" so it was less funny. And yes, that, too, was before Noises Off.
-

Yes, a terrific story, and with a happy ending!

Has Stages been staged recently? Can it be licensed?
-
It hasn't been - it's so firmly set in the 70s I'm not sure it would work today - LACC asked me about doing it there again, but until I figure out if I should update or not, I don't do anything with it. After the first two productions, I licensed it out several times.
-
Hello, everyone.

BK, you don't recall driving to my house yesterday?

Wow. Couldn't be any ravier.
I would love to see it. I certainly hope there's a CD coming.

John G, you were able to bring the tarts on the plane? (Maybe you bribed the crew with their own.)
Or is there some leg-pulling going on?

DR Jeanne, we are all hoping there will be a recording. With Paint Your Wagon, we closed in March and recorded in June or July when the funding was in place. I'm hoping, if a recording occurs, that it happens sooner. Fingers are crossed!

It's a lovely day today, so whatever you've got to do, you've got a lovely day to do it in, that's true.
-
I'm here at home, having slept in until 11:30 am! I haven't been able to do that for a couple of weeks. I will eventually need to get up and take a shower, get dressed, and go to my union meeting. Then, I can come back home and do some laundry and TV watching. :)

-
PAGE FOUR DANCE!!
-
And now, I'm off to my union meeting.
Be back later.

There's only one way a recording of The New Yorkers can happen with today's labels - Mr. Viertel and Encores will pay for it, or they will find the funding for it.

No there were genuine Texas almond fig tarts home baked by John G baker extrodinaire imported from the great state of Texas, with Texas grown figs! I think that only liquids are prohibited on domestic flights

It's been a full day. Dropped on a Mass at a Catholic Church, thinking I'd be able to avoid praise team music, which irritates my last nerve and makes me think uncharitable and unchristian thoughts. Naturally that's what the music was. I tried to ignore it.
-
Caught up with one of my best friends from college and a mutual friend we had worked with 25 years ago. Good times and good food at Rue 57.
-
Went to TKTS and discovered A Bronx Tale has added a Sunday evening performance, so I'm headed there in a few. You know me, I never miss a Robert De Niro musical.
-
I shall hate to leave here but my wallet will be happy.
-
I'm glad everyone liked the tarts. I guess that was more in keeping with The New Yorkers and those single entendres than I realized.
-
Jeanne, I don't know if I got them on the plane OK because the jam had been baked or not. But it wasn't a problem. Perhaps if I had had a jar of the jam with me it would have been a different matter.

DR AMY - among my favorite such songs, if not my favorite is PITIFUL PENNILESS BUMS from SUGAR.
And there is always:
Easy Street - Annie
It's A Simple Little System - Bells Are Ringing
Sitting Pretty - Cabaret
Take a Letter Miss Jones - Blood Brothers

Yes, and it was delicious! Thanks again, DR JohnG!
-
Today I saw The Glass Menagerie. It's surely a bare-bones production. The set consists of a long table, like something you would play cards on; 4 chairs and a Victrola on the floor.
-
Joe Mantello plays a character in his early twenties and he's in his fifties.
-
But the acting is great and just to see Sally Field was worth it.
-
Earlier my friend Todd and I went to Sardis for lunch. I recalled that the first time I went there was in 1969. My mother, brother and sister (Kate) went to NYC for a few days. Kate asked for a souvenir menu. Somehow I have it. It's fun to see the prices. I'll have to look for it and give some examples.

I hope that none of you who are flying home soon are booked on United Airlines. Today they actually forbid a 10-year-old girl from boarding because she was wearing leggings and also two teenage girls, for the same reason. The little girl's mom had a dress of hers in her bag and she was able to put that on and board, but the two teenagers presumably had nothing handy and couldn't board. The family was using employee passes, the use of which carries dress codes. But leggings? Like 'em or not, they are fairly standard attire. And she's a kid! The dad was wearing shorts, but that was considered acceptable.
Thankfully, I no longer fly much, but I'd be really skeptical of flying with an airline whose rules are so arbitrary. I fully concur that people should dress appropriately in public and that pass passengers are representing the airline. But this is crazy. United has just created a PR nightmare for itself. Maybe some of their executives should run for Congress.
-
Even though we weren't sitting together, Richard and I were totally immersed in and enchanted by NATASHA, PIERRE, AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812. The young man who played Anatole is a former student of my college friend from Florida and he was amazing.

I didn't realize one of the girls was 10. Too bad there weren't clothes to be borrowed for the teen girls. In somewhat defense of the airline, I have always heard about the strict regulations when you fly with an employee pass. I am actually surprised shorts were ok. It seems they have already relaxed their standards. From what I read the website was too vague on what clothing is permitted.

Why I waited so long I have no idea, today I asked Keith to change my keyboard for the one I used to use. He also switched out the mouse. This is much better :)
-
Good evening.

The posts about the weekenders in NYC make me very happy.

After the show we went to John's Pizza and were told there'd be a 20-30 minute wait. I went to the restroom and came back to find Richard sitting at the bar with a beer. I sat down and ordered my own beer and the nice bartender asked if we'd just like to eat there. Since we'd had no lunch, we decided to do that and watch the second half of the Kentucky/North Carolina basketball game. While we were eating our friendly bartender gave each of us a complimentary shot glass of something "not for diabetics." We saved them for dessert and, after we'd finished them, he told us it was butterscotch schnapps topped with Bailey's. Yummmm!

We are in for the evening watching our Sunday favorites on CBS.

Butterscotch schanpps topped with baileys... I wonder if they were "butter beer" shots

Whatever it was, DR Vixmom, it was yummy and warmed my tummy!

A Bronx Tale was surprising. The first was a little unfocused because it had so much story to tell but the second act was tightly written and the cast was great.
This may be Glenn Slater's most effective set of lyrics.

Thank you, John G. and JRand66 for your suggestions! I'll have to go research all those songs since I'm not familiar with them.
-
And the show is over. It closed beautifully, and Joshie and I went to the party. We got nice compliments from Sheldon Harnick and others. I met spouses. girlfriends and boyfriends of the cast and crew. chatted with a lot of people, and I am home. I must get to bed since I need to be up by seven.
I hope the recording week goes as smoothly and wonderful as the show.

Amy, in the animated Magoo's Christmas Carol, Scrooge has a lovely song about Ringle, Ringle, coins when they jingle.
Buddie, Beware in Anything Goes is a song of greed. And of course, Sondheim's More from Dick Tracy is the standard.

Recording vibes for Elmore.

Good night, all.

It's a lovely day today, so whatever you've got to do, you've got a lovely day to do it in, that's true.
Here in Tumwater, it's been raining since before I woke up. But since I love the rain, it IS a lovely day today! ;D
Go walk an hour or two in it, day after day after day, and then tell me if you still love it ;)
No. But I have driven in it and enjoyed that.

The same here even though I could not be there in person.

FFAD:
I was wondering if any of you could help me with a little project I'm working on. I need a list of songs from musicals that are about greed; and even better, about people behaving deceptively in the name of greed; like songs about con artists. But really, songs about greed in general would be good. Thanks!
Amy, there is a song called "Greed" in the musical, The Gifts of the Magi (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Gifts-of-the-Magi-The-1992-Studio-Cast/540/), by Randy Courts and Mark St. Germain. I love this recording!

What?? :o This is just ridiculous!

Well, I, for one, HATE leggings on teen girls or anyone else. It used to be that people would wear long shirts over them, but not now. I find them disgusting.

Finished with my viewing and listening to some George Duning music, which always makes me happy.

Ditto is ottid, spelled backwards.

Bruce I knew you would have something to say about leggings ;D
Keith, on the whole, agrees with you.. He feels the same about the spandex clothing we see on our walking trail.
It seems only about 1% of the people wearing them actually have the figure to do so.

Good evening!
-
Another rainy day in Tacoma.
-
And it looks like Thursday's drive to Idaho will be rainy, at least part of the way.
-
Actually, the weather in Boise looks okay.
-
I am so excited about the success of THE NEW YORKERS, and in particular to Larry and Josh for being singled out.
-
Great review in the National Review.
-
Thanks to all who shared their New York experiences this weekend.
-
I certainly wish I could have been there to share the fun.
-
I, also, hope for a recording of THE NEW YORKERS.
-
Safe travel for those returning home.
-
Amy, my selections have already been mentioned. Good luck with your search.
-
I'm afraid that I have to side with United Airlines. Observing a dress code seems a small price to pay for the reduced cost of flying on the airline.
-
We are going to have a break in the rain tomorrow.
-
I guess that will be my day to run errands.
-
I am so focused on leaving on Thursday, that I have to keep reminding myself that we have a performance on Tuesday night.
-
I need to spend some time on my lines tomorrow.
-
I need to clean up this dump before I leave.
-
I also need to drop off some laundry tomorrow morning.
-
Of course, I wasted all of today just vegging out.

I am still torn on whether to take my wheelchair or my scooter to Idaho.
-
Maybe I will just flip a coin.
-
I would hope that the convenience of having powered transportation would offset the inconvenience of bringing it and keeping it charged up...I would hope.
-
You are correct on that part.
-
Well, I hope I didn't just screw something up. :-\ I ordered nine, count 'em, NINE CDs from Jay Records' ship-to-US-only sale. However, when I went through the check-out process, they charged the full amount, but the e-mailed "WorldPay CARD transaction Confirmation" only showed five of the nine titles! The e-mail also has this message:
This confirmation only indicates that your transaction has been processed successfully. It does not indicate that your order has been accepted. It is the responsibility of Thats Entertainment Records International Ltd to confirm that your order has been accepted, and to deliver any goods or services you have ordered.
Hopefully, this means that Jay Records (aka That's Entertainment Records) really got my order for all nine titles!
-
I did print out the items in my cart before I sent it, so I at least could e-mail a pdf copy of that to show the total of the nine CDs.

Hold on to that copy!

I know! I actually opened another browser tab to look at another CD and left the cart alone for a bit, and then I went back to the cart in that second browser tab and completed my purchase, so I actually printed the cart from that first browser tab after the order was completed. I also took screen captures and saved them in a Word document, so I have that, too.
;)
