Title: Re: SEEING THE SET

From last night:
George, what is the deal about a gay scene in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST?

There were two moments (just shots, really)...not full scenes.  During the big fight between the townspeople and the enchanted furniture of the castle, the wardrobe spits out ribbons and clothes, and three townsmen end up in dresses and makeup.  Two turn away and leave to continue fighting, but the third looks at the wardrobe with a big grin on his face covered in makeup.
Title: Re: SEEING THE SET
Post by: George on April 06, 2017, 12:26:07 AM
The second moment is at the end of the movie when everyone's dancing at Belle and the prince's wedding.  As they dance, they change partners every once in a while and that same townsman (now back in men's clothes) and LeFou end up becoming partners for a moment and they look at each other for probably less than a full second, then the shot instantly moves onto other people in the dance.

I have a Fish Out of Water rehearsal this afternoon, and I'm watching Jesus Christ Superstar from the audience tonight.

It's my last Fish rehearsal till tech week three weeks from now.  I joined for several early rehearsals this time because of the score being so keyboard heavy and the kids needing to hear some stuff, not to mention my wanting to put the RMS Keyboard Solutions through its (and my) paces.  There were a few kinks to work out and I've pretty much got it nailed, thanks to good tech support from the RMS folks.  I've also sent a list of patch errors/suggestions for them to fix or consider.

I'm a sucker for films that take place in the 1950s, even if I catch the occasional anachronism or just plain goof.
Unless really bad, they get points for trying.

Quiz Show - which I too haven't seen but once, but had thought about recently
Pleasantville - yes, even if it's more of a tongue-in-cheek TV-artifice
L.A. Confidential
Ed Wood
The Front
Last Exit to Brooklyn
Matinee - to stretch the 1950s just a year or two
Round Midnight
Far From Heaven

I have Guys & Dolls work today.  It's time to begin Act Two piano-conductor score edits. Because of my break to finish The New Yorkers, this G&D work seems endless.  We're almost finished, though.

I've left a message on Roy's phone about tonight.

One of the video suggestions on the side of the screen (for me, at least) was THIS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGq1FUiehCY) video of Georgia Brown singing "Why Him?" from that same concert, and it happens right after that trio of "One More Walk Around the Garden."  I'd never seen a video of her singing this song before.  It's great!

Don Rickles has died.

Well, this is weird!  I've been watching random YouTube videos since John's posting of the "Carmelina" trio, and I came across this video of Yvonne DeCarlo singing "I'm Still Here."  Right at 1:58 (https://youtu.be/DBFvDHScHjI?t=1m53s), there's a very brief interruption that shows Don Rickles and Jerry Lewis during one of the MDA Telethons.  What a coinkydink!  Jrand, it's not a dream, but can this mean something??

I agree with you on that, but since it starts in 1957, I added it to my list. ;D

And now, I'm off to the theater.  Tonight begins the last weekend of The Trip to Bountiful.

Be back later.

I liked Beautiful very much.  We went backstage after to see our Moonshine & Mistletoe producer Kevin who plays Neil Sedaka and one of the Righteous Brothers and Liz Larsen.  We also ran into the wonderful guitarist Kevin Ramessar who played guitar, mandolin and banjo on the recording last week.

Listening to music whilst continuing breaking in the speakers.  I'm sure I've done at least twenty-five hours by now.

Starting to watch Man of La Mancha. I hate movie musicals in which the sound is so bad that when they start to sing their voices sound disembodied. You see Peter O'Toole's lips move, but the once strong, now faint voice sounds like it's coming from off camera some place. This might have been a better movie without the songs.

Back from a hellish Fish rehearsal and what seemed like an entire day of hellish driving around half the fricken state in constantly varying degrees of rain.

DR Elmore - glad you liked Beautiful... it's one of my favorites as well.  I'll be seeing it yet again next year in San Jose as it's part of my season.

I was sorry to hear of Don Rickles' death.  He was quite the discovery in my college years, and I went to see him a couple of times while living in L.A.  Just a few months ago I was bemoaning the fact that I'd long ago lost the program he'd autographed at an appearance in that theater-in-the-round out in the west Valley in the early 1970s.

We to an outdoor party at Mission San Francisco de la Espada, one of the missions in town. Beautiful evening, a little on the chilly side by the end of the evening.

How big of an audience?

There were only about 40 in the audience (the theater seats about 100), but they seemed to enjoy it.
