Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Passover and Seder, and now it is time for you to post until the Passover cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ORPHIC!
-
First post after BK!
-
Well, today is going to be a day. I'm working as a barback at AN EVENING WITH GARRISON KEILLOR (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/event/an-evening-with-garrison-keillor/)! I'm sure that it'll be a real fun evening! :D
-
It looks like it's actually sold out. It'll definitely be a busy evening!
-
Second poster after George and BK!
-
Tomorrow night, I'm going to audition for a local production of Hairspray! The roles of Edna, Tracy and Penny have been precast, though.
-
I grew up in Tacoma, WA, probably the least Kosher city in America.
-
We had no delis and no deli food. The only corned beef I ever tasted as a child was that canned corned beef that was always sold next to the canned Spam in the grocery store.

Who is doing HAIRSPRAY?

You can add Olympia to that list. Although, just a couple of weeks ago, there was the annual Blintzapalooza (http://bethhatfiloh.com/mc-events/blintzapalooza-2017/)! ;D
-
However, my mother did buy Nalley's Kosher Dill Pickles.
-
Well, I'm off to bed. Good night, Tom.

Well, I'm off to bed. Good night, Tom.
Good night, George.
-
It has also been too long gone since we have been invited to a seder. I know if we went to L.A. there would be invites. It would be ironic if we received one locally as we would have to decline.

And NOW I'm going to bed. 8)

Good morning, a bit late (for me)!
-
Congrats to vixmom and vixdad on your contest win!
-
Good morning, all.
-
JohnG - sound like it was a fun night!
I always thought someone would do a HAMILTON! that combined it with WICKED, about Margaret Hamilton.
-
Monday!
Such good news and such fine photos from DR VIXMOM - congrats on the wins.
Thank you DR JEANNE - I shall be on my way to the doctor in about an hour.

I want to see Container Store: The Musical.
-
Something about my memory of having gone to see THE THIN BLUE LINE at the theater prompted me to look up the release date -- which was August 1988, and not that it really matters, but I think I saw it in the multiplex at Beverly Center. I don't recall what my interest was then, but it certainly was gripping. Then I sort of forgot about the film for years, and when Criterion released it I bought it -- not because I remembered specifically which film it was, because I was actually a little unclear about that -- but because I then wanted to get into the films of Errol Morris, whose name would have meant nothing to me back in 1988. It was a great revisit.

I love me my delis and deli foods. And yet, at this tender age, I have yet to try gefilte fish or herring in sour cream. About fifty percent of my friends who grew up in Jewish households predict I'd love at least the herring in sour cream, and the other fifty percent suggest I not bother because probably neither would appeal. What to do, what to do...
-
TOD:
My favorite deli food (corned beef/pastrami on rye), I can't eat any longer. So, when I go to the deli these days, I usually get a turkey sandwich on gluten-free bread.

Did I hear somebody say auditions?
What? It's practically eight o' the clock on the east coast, and no one has mentioned auditions?
I guess it falls on me to do the honors here.
First, tomorrow it's going to be 80 degrees -- just one day, and then back to the 60s on Wednesday. Now if you were me, wouldn't you plan on enjoying that unseasonably warm day sitting on the back deck, perhaps just reading, perhaps grilling something, perhaps enjoying a cocktail? Why yes, I do believe you would.
So guess how I'll be spending that lovely day.
You're right. Playing auditions.
-
Good morning, all.
-
But wait! It gets worse. Since no good deed committed to far in advance can be allowed to go unpunished, I must arise at 5:30 a.m. to meet my friends who are driving in from deepest darkest Connecticut ..... they're driving us into NYC because their auditions are at Pearl Studios. The earliest I'll be back home is around 6:00 p.m., twelve hours after stumbling out of bed.
Do I know how to live, or what?
-
It's an hour since the last post...which was mine.
Do I also know how to shut a place down, or what?
-
Good morning, all!
-
My movie plans with goddaughter Charlotte fell through today, so I have no plans beyond work on Guys & Dolls.
-
Monday morning greetings! Taking it real easy today, puttering at home and doing a couple of local errands.
-
You do know how to live, ChasSmith. The measure of the quality of that living is more questionable.

Did you fly?

At least it will be a pretty day for a drive ;)

So far, I've caught up on my newspaper crossword puzzles, folded my laundry, and gotten a package ready to mail to Alaska. Next up, switching out some winter clothes for spring/summer ones. That'll make it turn cold again...

Oh,
Happy National Library Week!!!
-
Have fun DR CHAS SMITH. My auditions are not until 7 p.m., and I don't expect them to last more than an hour or so. I hope I get enough the round out the cast.
My new Doctor is very nice - he spoke to me for about half and hour. I now have new prescriptions for what ails me.
I will also have some LAB work done on Friday....so at least part of it is over.
-
Today we are having one very warm day. I think it should be mid-70s. Woohoo! But then it will be back to 50s the rest of the week.
-
I've been looking into flights to Ohio this morning. I cab't confirm dates until I talk to Randy and Jo.
-
Good morning
-
We're into Holy Week, which could only mean one thing.... the last ditch effort to get things ready for Easter. One day at a time. When you think you are ahead..... oy and vey
-
I'd like to try a real Jewish deli when I'm in NYC next week (!) -- any suggestions?

I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of blessed sleep and a really nice dream.
-
Back from shopping for a few essentials and grabbing a quick bite which was nothing to write home about.
-
But a nice CD was waiting in my mailbox, so that's good!
-
Instead of Guys & Dolls, this has ben a Babes in Toyland day. This concert, which I wish had given us a year to finish our new performance edition, is using parts of the new edition.
-
I've been looking into flights to Ohio this morning. I cab't confirm dates until I talk to Randy and Jo.
Don't fly United unless you like your itinerary punched up a bit.
-
What a fresh hell Monday it's shaping up to be v
-
I thought I had some fresh hell in the mailbox today.
Fortunately, it turned out to be something totally innocuous that only bore a similarity to fresh hell.
-
They always do that DR CHAS SMITH......Response Deadline!!!
-
Oh,
Happy National Library Week!!!
Libraries are a wonderful service, especial online libraries for us tablet users.
-
My new Doctor is very nice - he spoke to me for about half and hour. I now have new prescriptions for what ails me.
I will also have some LAB work done on Friday....so at least part of it is over.
I am relieved for you and hope the new prescriptions help. Good lab work test result vibes!

This morning I had my hand evaluated for the method of removal of that little skin cancer. She double blasted it with a nitro spray. I hope that does the trick.
-
It seems I have had errands or doctor appointments every morning for over a week now. Tomorrow is a good errand, I get to walk home from the post office, much nicer than going to the dermatologist.
-
This may seem a bit too personal - from me, at any rate -- but on Friday, I had a medical appointment with a doctor of Pharmacology at Kaiser in Oakland.
The purpose was to discuss with me the pros and cons of using insulin. My A1C has gotten much too high over the past year and my doctor became alarmed. She broached the idea of insulin as if she thought I might refuse.
In fact, I had been wondering when they would ever recommend it.
I started on 10 units of Humulin Friday evening. Right now, it's just one painless injection every night just before bedtime. I'm doing a series of daily readings to determine what adjustments, if any, we might need to make to stabilize my blood sugars.
Okay. There, I've said it. I am squarely a full-fledged member of the "Rook gene pool"...that's my mother's side of the family. We all tend toward Congestive Heart Failure, atrial fibrillation, high blood pressure and diabetes 2.
My goal: Get healthier and don't acquire anything else.

Nope. Want to.

I haven't, but my library has 51 copies of the print book, 12 copies of the e-book, 6 copies of the talking book on CD, and 4 copies of the downloadable talking book, so a lotta people want to, too!
-
Colson Whitehead's Underground Railroad won the Pulitzer for literature today. Has anyone read it?
Yes and I was disappointed in it.

MEGA BE HEALTHY VIBES TO DR RON!

Good health vibes for DR RLP.
-
Thanks DR JANE - time will tell......

Back from Jerry's Deli and a turkey sandwich and a few onion rings. It was jammed at 11:55 and just got worse in the ninety minutes I was there. Why? Because every Jew in Studio City took the day off, even though Passover doesn't begin until this evening. They and their loud children did not take the day off to observe, go to temple, they took the day off because they are entitled and then they all thought a pilgrimage to Jerry's would be swell because, you know, they're not going to eat enough food tonight when they make pigs of themselves at the Seder.
-
Check finally arrived and I banked it.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Jrand, I'm glad you like the new doctor and that he took enough time with you. Vibes the rest goes smoothly, too.

Vibes to Jane and her hand.

Ron, that is not a good combination! I hope you find a diet/exercise/medication protocol that works well for you and that you soon see healthier numbers! I suspect that retirement may help, as well.

Colson Whitehead's Underground Railroad won the Pulitzer for literature today. Has anyone read it?
It's on my want-to list.

Two for the Road (http://www.kritzerland.com/two_for_road.htm) has arrived in Tumwater! :D
-
My joy on this is that a copy I ordered for a friend in Greensboro NC ( a lady I was in college with and who shared my passion for this film and its score) received her copy this afternoon and is deliriously happy. It was a huge surprise to her.
-
The Babes in Toyland work is finished for tonight.
-
Good evening!
-
I have to be up early tomorrow for therapy, so I'm going to chill out and watch something. Yesterday I finished watching I Claudius with "The Epic that Never Was," about the aborted 1937 Korda film. I have a couple of Netflix things sitting here.
-
I had to put my A/C this evening. I think it was 83 today.
-
Thanks to all for the congratulations regarding DR Kate's granddaughter and my great-niece! I told DR Kate and she sends her thanks too.
-
One more!

-
I filed my tax returns (federal and state) today. I used TaxAct.com. I'm a whole week early!
-
BK: I started "Thrill Ride" and am enjoying it!
-
Thanks DR JANE - time will tell......
Thank you. I am constantly having the back of my hands sprayed with nitro, never needed a biopsy before this spot.
-
Vibes to Jane and her hand.
Thank you. How is your back pain?
-
Colson Whitehead's Underground Railroad won the Pulitzer for literature today. Has anyone read it?
Yes and I was disappointed in it.
I've been disappointed in a lot of Pulitzer-winning novels. Still want the time back I wasted on Oscar Woo.

I have to come up with some music representing old Italian folk songs or dances for a one-time family event some theater folks are putting together. The music will be instrumental and low key in presentation, used largely for scene setting and perhaps a tiny bit of underscoring in a kind of staged reading of a children's book that takes place in a fictional Italian past. I'm hoping to find a few snippets of things, a few phrases here, a few phrases there, from perhaps these kinds of books. (https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=italian+folk+music+for+mandolin&rh=n%3A283155%2Ck%3Aitalian+folk+music+for+mandolin)
Mandolin and accordion music would be appropriate, maybe some fiddle music. This probably isn't anyone's forte any more than it is mine, but if anybody has other ideas along these lines, they would be much appreciated.

Same year. I often think, "Oh it won an award, maybe I shouldn't read it". I think I appreciated The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao a bit bit more than you did. I would be telling anyone to read it.
-
Right after I finished reading Underground Railroad a friend asked if I had read it. She was struggling with it. I have given her feedback on a few other books she wasn't sure if she wanted to finish, suggesting she not which advise she happily took. She felt as if this is something, because of the subject she should finish. I told her there were better books and they weren't so depressing. Last I heard she was taking a break from the book and planned to return. I rarely return to books I take a break from ;D
-
I bid you all a lovely good night, as I must call it an early one in order to get several decent hours of sleep so as to not feel totally awful getting up at 5:30 a.m. Just basically awful is to be expected, but let's please not have totally awful. I hope that isn't asking too much of the universe.
A day of auditions is calling my name, and I shan't be online till I'm back home tomorrow evening. Most excellent Tuesday vibes to all!

I haven't gone to my favorite deli in a long time, due to location and the fact their incredible coleslaw is no longer incredible. That is Nate 'n Al Delicatessen.
There aren't any deli's here and what is in Portland is nothing to rave about.
-
I do not like Juniors, Bruce's deli of choice, or convenience.

Started watching Chasing Amy, which I hadn't seen since it first came out. A very young Casey Affleck has an interesting cameo at the beginning with his brother.
-
I also watched a great episode of Brokenwood tonight. One of the best.

And then my sister posted this because it's National Siblings Day.

Finished with my viewing.

Well, I didn't get to see his whole performance but what I did see was cherce! He spoke for two and a half hours and it was fantastic. The theater was completely sold out and he got a very deserved standing ovation!

After the show, my friend Margo (who was ushering) and I went to McMenamin's The Spar. The food was good, and now I'm home.
