Well, you've read the notes, the notes were called back, and now it is time for you to post until the called back cows come home.

Last night, I house managed (selling concessions, checking in presold tickets, giving curtain speech) TAO's first of two extra performances of 1984 by George Orwell, adapted for the stage by Michael Gene Sullivan.  We were completely sold out. We actually added four extra seats...including one for me!

How was the show?

It was so good.  Overall, it was an even better performance than the first time I saw it, which is ALWAYS a good thing!

The audience loved it.  You could tell that they were there to see this show, not just have a night at the theater.  I was in the middle row on one side and could see people throughout the show lean forward and really pay attention to certain moments.
Title: Re: INTO THE CALLBACKS
Post by: George on April 15, 2017, 12:30:02 AM
Tomorrow's show isn't sold out yet, but there are more tickets sold now for that than there were yesterday afternoon for last night's show, so it's a pretty good bet that it'll sell out, too.

So after 1984 last night, I went to McMenamin's Spar Café (https://www.mcmenamins.com/spar-cafe) and was just going to get a little something to eat and continue reading the book 1984 on my Kindle.  After I ordered, John (the actor who plays O'Brien...he was also in TAO's The HEAD! That Wouldn't DIE!!), his wife, and a friend if theirs showed up for drinks and invited me to join them.  I did, and we had a lovely chat while I didn't read my Kindle.

I don't usually use the laundromat but for that many robes it was the fastest way and it is right across the street from the church

for this service we have our 2 Pastors, an acolyte and 2 readers...all dressed entirely in. black, no vesting, no crosses .  The altar is bare as it was striped at the end of the Maudy Thursday service
Title: Re: INTO THE CALLBACKS

The only "decoration" is the black pall on the large cross hanging over the altar

For the past several years, the Vixter and I have been the readers, I reading the prophesies in Isaiah and  she reading the New Testament passages of the fulfillment of those prophesies .  This year one of our deacons read Isaiah and I read"Vixters part"

It is a very moving service, opening with full lights, plus 7 candles in the aisle and the large 'Christ candle" in front of the altar lit.

We start out with the string orchestra and then the bell choir

Then there's a prayer, a hymn and then 2 readings..old and new and then a candle is extinguished and the lights dimmed, a prayer, a hymn, 2 readings, etc until we are left in the dark with only the lit Christ candle...

Post by: vixmom on April 15, 2017, 01:30:43 AM
After we read the passage of Christ's final words we all kneel in the dark and the Christ candle is taken out and we are in complete darkness and silence  and then there is a loud "bang" (actually the slamming if the back door in the sacristy ) representing the sealing if the tomb. Which  always  makes me jump
Title: Re: INTO THE CALLBACKS
Post by: vixmom on April 15, 2017, 01:33:03 AM
And then while we kneel in the dark our choirmaster and one if the woman choir members ( who has a beautiful voice) sing "Were you there when you crucified my Lord" acapella , alternating verses

Well since this past week the schools were closed for Passover/Holy Week  a good number of our clients have been away.   Plus most law offices were closed.  I think I had 10 phone calls all day, I usually have that many before 9:30 am.

I am not sure if the official total but between Saturday night service and the three Sunday services we usually have a total attendance of around 450. For Easter and Christmas that number usually doubles

Well, I need to be going.  I've just been at home watching TV, but I have to get ready to leave.  I need to get some more programs printed for tonight's final performance of 1984.  I'll have to drop off the programs, the till and my tablet because I'm ushering for a fund raising event at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts.

Have a good rest of the day, all!

Back from callbacks and we're cast IF everyone accepts their roles, which I can only assume and hope they will.  There was some contention on a couple of roles, but we're all in this together and while I could have hung tough and insisted, that isn't what I do.  I did win on everything that was truly important to me.  Yes, I perhaps would have gone a slightly different way on a couple of roles, and interestingly Kay and I were always completely in agreement on those roles and performers.  But I'm happy with our choices - I will probably have to work with a couple of people to get them to the right place, but it's a really good company and the one thing I insisted on from the beginning is there - every person in this cast is a distinct look and type.  In fact, a couple of people wanted to use a certain actor for a smaller role and I put the kibosh on it because that actor looked too much like Robert Yacko.

I find it a bit confusing when actors look too much alike.

Maybe you should go to Tacoma, TCB can take you yo the casinos

Or, every surprise check is a good thing.

Except that one I received for $1.18.  :(

John G, I watched the first few episodes of 800 WORDS (I like stories about writers), but grew tired of it soon thereafter when the plots were heavily based on the two teenagers. I've developed a low tolerance for typical teen behavior.

Have you been watching it?

It's just come in at the library. I'll pick it up on Monday.

Went to see Shen Yun, a Chinese dance troupe, tonight. Lovely dancing, a little too much religion, and little of it made sense, but the evening was wonderful.

While Vixmom was pondering, I was wandering and pondering watching a motion picture - I began doing so and promptly fell asleep for about forty minutes, started over and watched about an hour and now I'm listening to some music just because I can.  I also had about two ounces of leftover uncooked wide egg noodle pasta so I made that, put a  little butter on it and ate it all up.
