Title: DITHERING AND DALLYING ON A SUNDAY

Well, you've read the notes, the notes dithered and dallied, and now it is time for you to post until the dithering and dallying cows come home.

I much prefer HUSH, HUSH, SWEET CHARLOTTE over BABY JANE, but that is probably because Miss Crawford is not in the film.

Is there a stage musical version of HUSH, HUSH?  If not, there should be one.

A double feature with the musical version of Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Whatever-Happened-To-Baby-Jane-1998-UK-Cast/6242/) would be cool!

Here is the official press release for my new book, HOLLYWOOD SNAPSHOTS: The Forgotten Interviews.

Albany, Ga. – BearManor Media announces the release of Hollywood Snapshots The Forgotten Interviews by Michael B. Druxman.

Back in the 1970s and early 1980s, Michael B. Druxman authored several books and stage plays about Hollywood, the movies, and the people that made them. He also wrote a monthly column for Coronet magazine, “Yesterday at the Movies.”

In researching these works, Druxman interviewed dozens of performers, producers, directors, screenwriters, composers, and other film folk, who were a part of Hollywood’s “Golden Era.”

Rediscover the author’s columns for Coronet as they originally appeared in the magazine, along with excerpts from Druxman’s recently rediscovered interview notes for his books, columns, and stage plays, including many eye-opening comments that never made print. These notes are made public here for the first time.

Subjects of the magazine interviews include Claire Trevor, Jack Oakie, Paul Henreid, Ann Miller, John Carradine, Howard Keel, Mary Pickford, Gale Sondergaard, David Janssen, Yvonne DeCarlo, and several members of The Little Rascals/Our Gang films.

Among the book interview subjects are directors Edward Dmytryk, Herb Ross, George Sidney, George Sherman, Gordon Douglas, Raoul Walsh, Howard Hawks, Mervyn LeRoy, Arthur Hiller; composers Jule Styne, Paul Francis Webster, John Green; actors George Burns, Betty Garrett, Dan O’Herlihy, Charles “Buddy” Rogers, and many others.

The forgotten interviews are no longer forgotten.

Our warm day turned into a warm night.  Woke up in the middle of it and had to turn my bedroom fan on me, which finally made things better.

Today should be really nice, topping off at about 70.

One irritating and repeating dream involved a song, or a section of a song, in G minor from Jesus Christ Superstar which, in the dream, was also an important section of West Side Story.

This begins an active three weeks.  Some various and sundry things must get done today, we have DR Matthew's visit tomorrow, I have Fish Show rehearsals on Wednesday and Thursday, and I play Friday night's and Sunday's performances of Superstar

Next week is Hell Week for the Fish Show, and the week of performances after that will be Hellish.  I expect most of this Hell to be served fresh and steaming, and I'm quite sure that somewhere in all of that is a Rosemary's Baby that must be prayed for.

Lots of dreams last night!  I remember these:
1.  Something about a family gathering at Randy's and Jo's, only my cousins were all still children and my dead father and Aunt Jean, who died from a stroke around 1976, were in it.
2.  Another Drama Book Shop dream.

DR Jane:  Buon Viaggio a Italia!

Recommendations:  In Rome, seek out "La Bocca de la Veritas" (the Mouth of Truth).  It was featured in "Roman Holiday".  Gregory Peck stuck his hand into the mouth and then pretended his hand was being devoured to Audrey Hepburn's horror.  On the Amalfi Coast, avail yourself, if you've time, of a day trip to either Herculaneum or Pompeii.  The latter is the most extensive and famous, but Herculaneum is, for me, better-preserved.

I spent my Sunday watching epic movies.

One more thing:  My condo's elevator is still out of service.  Today will be one week.   In theory, a new "board" is being constructed to put the elevator back into service.  The elevator is ancient (30-plus years) and parts are hard to come by.  A long-delayed upgrade won't happen until September.

TOD:
For people don't particularly like vegetables, the best thing to do is to roast them. When vegetables are caramelized, they take on a very different flavor and are very yummilicous. You can find lots of recipes for roasting vegetables online.
Personally, I love vegetables but I don't love to cook, so I just nuke them in the microwave and drizzle a bit of soy sauce on them, and I'm good to go.

Monday morning greetings!  Because of Richard's and Rob's conflicting work schedules yesterday, we're having our family Easter dinner tonight.  I made green Jello eggs last night and this morning have already been to buy a Honey Baked ham.  Soon I'll put together my version of Mormon Funeral Potatoes (no sour cream, fewer onions, grated Cheddar cheese on top instead of corn flakes) and get some green beans simmering with some chunks of the fresh ham.  Mary Linda made a cheesecake yesterday for our dessert.

On a visit to my Wife of First Cousin Once Removed and her family in West Virginia several years ago, they had a sort of potluck lunch and someone brought these potatoes with the corn flakes.  I'd never had it, and at first couldn't put my finger on exactly what the dish consisted of, but it was quite yummy in an interesting way.  I got their recipe, and what they'd always called it was Company Potatoes.  It's quite the down home comfort dish, which I'd been associating ever since with West Virginia but obviously it's quite widespread.  I'd never come across it by either name.

I spoke with my Cousin Debra this past Thursday evening.

Please don't alert the media.  This revelation is only for your eyes.

Debra is an RN in charge of a medical group in South Carolina.  We were talking "family health issues" and she told me about something that has done wonders for her husband who has heart issues and diabetes 2.

She said that some recent lab results were so startlingly "normal" that she and his doctors thought a mix-up had happened.  So they did the labs again and the results were the same.  His triglycerides were well within normal parameters, his A1C was low and normal and his blood sugars were normal.

To what did she attribute this?

He had begun craving dill pickles and pickle juice.  That had turned the tide for him, except for the hypertension all the salt induced.  How did he handle that?

He began taking a tbsp. of Bragg's Vinegar every day.  The results have remained steady.  She said this vinegar (Bragg's organic raw apple cideer) is the new wonder tonic for diabetics.

Since it's not going to hurt me any, I'm going to start doing this today.

TOD;
Steaming veggies is the healthiest option and very easy. You need a steamer, which can probably be purchased for less than $15. Boil roughly an inch of water in a pan, place the steamer in the pot and add the veggies to the steamer. Cover the pot with a lid. Let cook for about ten minutes on low.

Apple cider vinegar is probably the oldest health tonic around. Many people swear by it for all sorts of things. Even though it's an acid it alkalinizes you, just as lemon juice does. It's usually taken in water. Taking it straight can be uncomfortable, especially if you tend to be too acid or if you have a tender gut.

Ron, let us know how it works for you. Good luck!

I had a little free time today so I organized my tax files. I've been wanting to do this for ages. It wasn't as disorganized as it looked and didn't take too long to do. Every year there's at least one receipt or one document that evades me and I must ferret through many files to find the damn thing. Last week's missing receipt turned up today. I knew it would surface--and knew, too, that I could find other evidence to support it if needed. So much better to have order! I'm pleased it's done.

Debra feels the pickles normalized his blood sugar, then the apple cider vinegar normalized the hypertension?  Or she feels the apple cider vinegar helped it all?

She felt the pickles helped with everything BUT hypertension.   The salt in the pickle brine was the culprit.   Vinegar does not affect hypertension, but had the properties of bringing down his A1C and his blood sugar.

The NYT reports that research has started on a new class of antibiotics using a synthetic form of the blood from the Komodo dragon of Indonesia. We really need new antibiotics; the ones we're using are quite old and many bugs are becoming resistant to them.

And on that note (C#), I'm leaving and going to my sister's house.  I need to bring my niece the birthday present that she asked me to buy for her.  I forgot to bring it to my parents' house yesterday, so I'm bringing to her house now.

Be back later.

Thank you for sharing this

On a visit to my Wife of First Cousin Once Removed and her family in West Virginia several years ago, they had a sort of potluck lunch and someone brought these potatoes with the corn flakes.  I'd never had it, and at first couldn't put my finger on exactly what the dish consisted of, but it was quite yummy in an interesting way.  I got their recipe, and what they'd always called it was Company Potatoes.  It's quite the down home comfort dish, which I'd been associating ever since with West Virginia but obviously it's quite widespread.  I'd never come across it by either name.

This took three tries to get straight... I read this as you having a secret wife you removed to  West Virginia

DR Vixmom, what exactly is peeling a mushroom?  I sometimes cut off the stem. And I chop/dice/cut them. But I have never heard of peeling a mushroom.

I always peel my mushrooms as taught by my MIL.  I use a paring knife .

Went to the memorial service for my friend Kevin tonight. He was only 40, but he touched so many lives. There were about 500 people there. Very nice service at one of the Korean churches in town, which is where his father is an associate pastor. The choir sang Psalm 23 in Korean. A few friends and his brother spoke. Very life affirming -- and very sad.

Starting to watch something called Mrs. Bradley Mysteries, starring Diana Rigg as a rich sleuth who always manages to be around when murder is afoot. The series is set in the 1920s and the period look is wonderful. There's also a humorous streak, at least to the first story.

There are only six episodes but I think it'll be fun.

When I got home, I wanted to start working on the budget report for tomorrow's TAO board meeting, but I got sidetracked with a compilation CD that I'm putting together for myself (which I didn't finish).  Now, it's midnight and I still need to put together the budget report for tomorrow.  It's still going to take a long time. :P
