Title: THE COSTCO RUN AND OTHER ADVENTURES

Well, you've read the notes, the notes ran to Costco and had other adventures, and now it's time for you to post until the adventurous cows come home.

I was curious and so searched on this here site "It's Ask BK Day" - the earliest use of that topic was way back in 2002.

George, what is the next show you are working on?

I auditioned for Hairspray, and was told at the audition, "of course, you're cast," but I don't know if they'll decide which role I'll get just from the song and dance audition, or if there will be callbacks to figure that out.  Hopefully, I'll hear something soon.

Breakfast at the hotel was nice.  We then walked around.  Since the wind made it chilly I purchased a scarf to keep me warm.  I had planned to buy one of the multi colorful, reasonably priced, cashmere scarves.  Instead I ended up with a solid, not too bright, modal.  Modal is a very soft fabric that feels good.  I expect there will be photos of me wearing it.

We stopped for a mid day snack of puzza and drinks.  The view was lovely, however,  the food not so much.  I had 3 sips too many after the fist sip of the local white wine.  The pizza tasted good enough except it was swimming n olive oil.  We should have checked Trip Advisor before eating there.  After eating we found where we should have eaten, and then we found dead the place to have dinner.  We will enjoy the view of the ocean and hope we don't fall asleep.

IK slet poorly last night; I have no idea why, buy I did.  I also had strange dreams, but all I remember now is something in a record store store with Columbia Masterworks classical albums and Mark Horowitz of the Library of Congress wanting a recording of Janacek's Glagolitic Mass.

While walking around I saw people with cones or cups of gelato with an additional little cone for scooping the gelato.  Lucky us I spotted the shop they came from..  The stracciatella (chocolate chip) was  your far the best ever.  The flavorful gelato not only had a wonderful texture it had a superb chocolate poured over it that hardened into eXtra chunks of chocolate.  This might have been the best ever.

Yes, I had the gelato of my dreams over there, sometimes three times a day. Nothing like a second or third breakfast. My favorite was the pistachio with a more natural, almost brown color.

I missed your post.  Should I also read "I See You"?  I don't have wifi right now to look it up easily.

I actually liked I See You more than I Let You Go.  But if you like Clare Mackintosh and her very British writing then you should definitely try I See You.  I actually read another really good suspense thriller a couple of weeks ago (that  I like more than these two). It is The Perfect Stranger by Megan Miranda.

I was having some trouble walking and standing for long periods of time.....so I passed the director ship of The Show Whose Name I Shall Not Mention on to someone else.

I hated to do that, but I think it was for the best.  More tests at the hospital on Friday.

I am not sure if I am leaving the Board of Directors or not, they have asked me stay.....we shall see.  I might LIKE not having to drive 70 miles a day during the summer and just enjoying myself.

Enjoy, DR George!    This is the same production I saw at the Shakespeare Theatre in DC.  Michael Xavier, who is now playing Joe Gillis in Sunset Boulevard on Broadway, played the brother (Nigel?) now being played by Tam Mutu.

Someone gave us the last beets from their garden. They are sick of beets. We are loving them -- so delicious.

Yum. Envious.

Dinner last night was incredible.  The view, service, and food terrific.   We sat by the window over looking  the ocean and listened to the waves crashing against the rocks. Best view in Sorrento at one of the top rated restauurants.

Guy Ritchie is set to direct the live-action film version of Aladdin. Will Smith is in talks to play the genie.

I need to ignore all this and sleep.

As you know, I've gone through most of the Sibelius symphony cycles on CD - have my favorites and have my non-starters that I never need to hear again.  I've heard the historic mono cycles, too.  But what I'd never heard was the first stereo complete cycle - why?  Because it's never been issued on CD.  I decided I needed to hear it as everyone raved about it - so I went to eBay and found the boxed LP set, but also found a reel-to-reel tape.  The speed, sadly, was 3 3/4 rather than 7 1/2 but it was cheap and I bought it.  I then had it transferred into AIFF files (high quality), which took two months due to scheduling, but I got it this evening and am listening to the first symphony and despite the slower speed it sounds pretty good, just crunchy on the loud passages, but the performance is quite wonderful and now I'm looking forward to hearing the rest.  The conductor is Akea Watanabe with the Japan Philharmonic.  He recorded the cycle again for Denon in the 90s, but that's not supposed to be anywhere near as good as this, and the cheapest copy of that OOP CD is $250!

If I thought I could sell 1000 copies, I'd try to license this set from Sony - it's really wonderful - I'm sure I'd sell a few hundred to classical buffs and Sibelius nuts.
