I just did some research on Google, TCB - according to one site the best cure if you think you're getting a cold or sore throat is finishing a recently begun book.  :)

Topic of the Day:

Looking at Richard Boone's IMDb listing (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0095524/reference), I think the only movie of his that I've seen is The Hobbit (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077687/reference).

Nope.  Not really the kind of movies I'm interested in watching...at least, by myself.

My favorite Richard Boone movie is BIG JAKE, since it was directed by my publicity client, George Sherman, and co-starred my future client, Christopher Mitchum.

Oh, and John Wayne was in it, too.

Well, the show op'ned.  Oh yes it did.

So did the fire alarm system.  Twice.

In spite of all best intentions and a week of rehearsals in which all went swimmingly (see what I did there?), the fog machines set off the alarms which had supposedly been turned off in the auditorium (with fire marshall's approval).  The audience was told to stay where the hell they were, and about twenty minutes later the show resumed.

When it went off again later, we played, sang, and acted right over it, and they got it shut off within a couple of minutes.

The upshot is that they're going to have to shut it down for the whole school because the fog can travel.

Last night's Miami University Men's Glee Club Concert had a special guest artist, Ciaran Sheehan, who was in Les Miz and Phantom on Broadway.  He's good friends with a marketing professor and has become "The Phantom of the Glee Club."  He sang a lot of Broadway standards, did duets with 2 female students and one of the young men from the Glee Club, and sang with the Glee Club for several numbers.  As he introduced each of his solo numbers, he said, "Next, Jon and I are going to do..."  Jon is the talented Glee Club accompanist.

My favorite throat spray is from Gaia Herbs, a highly-respected herb grower. It tastes awful, but it REALLY WORKS! And the taste dissipates quickly. Available from Amazon. A bottle lasts a long time.

Bruce, you mentioned that LACC has two theatres--the small, 99-seat theatre where LA NOW AND THEN played and a big, 300-seat space where the new Sherman Bros show will go. Given that the show is sponsored by LACC and you're not paying rent it's just a matter of which show fits that space better, yes? Assuming it's available, of course. Or are there other considerations?

...as I was saying......I was thinking exactly what to post here at HHW because we are all much better friends than just the casual acquaintances on Book Face.

I spent three days in hospital....came  home today at one p.m.  They are building up my blood for some surgery that will happen in the next couple of weeks.

I can't say I'm not concerned, but I also know that thousands of people have had the same procedure and are living full lives.

It's not a particularly interesting or important subject. I  do thank everyone    who mentioned me while I was gone....I missed everyone,  I didn't have my phone, so I was living in the dark ages.

Vibes to all  who need them, I'll be around for awhile, and will keep you informed when I go in....and when I get out......

Worn out from being at the school all day doing a matinee and evening show and eating there and everything, but delighted that this schedule means nothing tomorrow.  This score -- typical Disney, I guess -- is big, and Keyboard 1 quite literally never stops playing.  Not a complaint, it's a fun book to play.

Music too loud ( she had a point there when we pulled into the parking lot the vibrations from the bass could be felt ... I mean my chest was vibrating ... Going in to collect her was actually a painful experience

Then I heard about the lousy service, the cold food, no conversation (well with that music how could there be?)

Finally finished with tonight's painstaking work - figuring out and notating every change between the play and film versions of Dial 'M' for Murder.  Certain cuts they made are very helpful and I'll be doing some of those, too - and certain small additions of dialogue to hit home plot points are also very helpful in the film, so I'll probably add one or two of those.  Now that it's all notated I can pick and choose between them - it's all by Frederick Knott so I'm fine doing it.

Listening to the new CD release of Stavisky - better than all the other CD releases, which had some moron at CAM reversing the channels and putting the violins on the right - that's been corrected here.  I gather the recording itself was not exactly ever great.  But I'm still surprised by how buried the sax is in the opening track - clearly it's the lead instrument but you wouldn't know that.  I wish I still had my original LP because my memory of that is that it was much more prominent there.

BK, Google was wrong.  I can't finish reading a book when I can't stay awake to read.

Well, I must now be leaving.  Today, as part of Olympia's semi-annual Arts Walk, there will be the Procession of the Species.  I'll be volunteering at the WCPA (mostly just for crowd control), so I'll get to see it since it walks right by the front of the Center!

Be back later

Well, I ended up being watch guard at the top balcony lobby area.

Here's the synopsis:

Quote
Lost in the desert, alone and off his meds, John Kalama just wants to get back to what's left of his family—his grandfather, Daryl Redbear and sister, Jesse—on the Nisqually Reservation in the Pacific Northwest. But on his journey he is pursued by demons, plagued by spirits and mocked by an arrogant raven. Unsure if these visions are real or the effect of withdrawal symptoms, will they help or hinder his quest for familial reconciliation and an acceptance of his cultural heritage?

Chuck Bradley is a man tormented by demons of his own. Endlessly driving across the country, hoping to outrace his own past and appease his guilty conscience, his life as a loner comes to a screeching halt when his path crosses with John's.

Together the two of them confront their deepest fears and test the bonds of friendship as the highway carries them through a landscape more alive than either had previously realized.
