Title: KRITZERLAND AT STERLING'S 77
Post by: bk on May 08, 2017, 12:14:01 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Kritzerland at Sterling's 77, and now it is time for you to post until the 77 cows come home - they're currently at 77 Sunset Strip.

Glad everyone liked the song - it was really fun to write.  The tune just came right away as did parts of each of the three solo verses.  Then I had to adhere to the rhyme scheme, which meant triple rhymes in each verse, which is easier than it sounds - the easy part is the first two, but it can be surprisingly hard to come up with the third depending on the rhyme itself.  Sometimes you just get lucky with something like gentle, mental, rental - not only that you have the triple rhyme, but that it makes sense for the lyric AND gets a laugh.

Re the TOD:  This is such an interesting topic.  But there have been cases where I've enjoyed the second or third encounter with a show more than the first time I saw it, but the cases I can think of may have been because I was much more familiar with the material and themes.

I was feeling poorly last night, so I went to bed around 8:00.  Joshie had been feeling down all last week and I kept telling him he had allergies, then several folk in the orchestra on Friday said they had the same issues.  Perhaps something is going around?

Elmore, your feeling poorly could be related to your blood sugar being out of whack. I know that happens to me. When I get a virus, the numbers can skyrocket.

TOD:  I have never yet seen a show where the revival is an iota as good as the original staging. Once the writers are dead, producers, heirs, estates, etc appear to have no problems walking over them, knowing that they know how to "fix" the problems that the creators were too stupid to address.  I've heard this bullshit for the past forty years.

John we walked forwards Belvin today after touring the castle. We decided we were too warm for a heavy custard even if it is heavenly. We walked back to the city center and found the gelato shop that shapes roses on cones. The chocolat and douce le leche flavors are scrumptious.

This panacea idea

I'm handing you without any cost

There isn't any tax on it

So just relax on it

If you want trouble double-crossed

Don't give in to a frown

Turn that frown upside down

And get yourself that long face lost!

Monday morning greetings!  Add me to the list of puny Hainsies/Kimlets - can't seem to shake these "allergies."

I had some tests done 20 years ago (or so) to determine just what it is I'm allergic to.  I hoped to isolate the allergens and receive relief via some injection or pill.

To my surprise, it was determined I have ZERO allergies.  I simply have "sensitivities" with the same symptoms as allergies.  Wool makes me break out.  Grasses leave me weeping.  Dust clogs my sinuses.

But I have ZERO allergies.

Shocking.  I had allergy shots when we lived in Michigan.  Since then I have been, on the whole, better than I was.

Larry - I'm having blood sugar issues at the moment myself.  I'm trying to deal with it with diet and exercise.  I've stopped all sugar that's not in fruit or veggies, switched to gluten free bread if I absolutely have to have bread/tortilla's etc and have been concentrating on protein - lots of protein.  It takes a while for your body to adjust, but it works - quickly usually.  I've also stopped drinking coffee and switched to iced green tea - which is good for lowering blood sugar.  Also, I've been taking a cinnamon supplement which is suppose to help also.

I mentioned a week or so back that I'd started doing a daily regimen of drinking two TBSP of Red Cider Vinegar (raw and unfiltered) with some water because a cousin told me it could "drop" my high numbers.

I had a blood draw on Friday.  EVERYTHING is WAY DOWN.  Cholesterol (HDL and LDL), triglycerides, etc.  Best results of the past four years.  After only a month.  Of course, I've also been on insulin and a stronger statin (Lipitor, aka Atorvastatin) which accounts for some of it.   But my AC1 is the best it has been in years, as well.

"Emily" has called me three times in the past two weeks. I must give her credit; she is very skilled at completely NOT listening to the other person and PERSISTING with her pitch. The second time she called I yelled insults at her. The third time I just hung up. I don't know if there's a way to block those calls. My phone does everything under the sun, but can it block calls?

A few years before my dad died some scammers got him. They told him he'd win some big sweepstakes, but he had to pay to enter. The first check he gave them was for $9000! They sent some Fedex-like service around to pick it up. They sent him a DVD player that didn't work, a fake diamond pendant, and a few other things. I don't think that was the only check he gave them, either. Gawd! I want to wring their necks! And why is it that nothing is done about these organizations?

NO!

Ditto. ::) But probably because I've only seen several "original productions" and no subsequent productions...other than community theater productions, which probably don't count.  And none of those topped the originals.

That's great, Ron!  I guess I'm going to have to get some raw and unfiltered Red Cider Vinegar!

I listened to a little of the Dolly album - don't really understand the necessity of new orchestrations by Larry Hochman.  And like all cast albums today, it sounds a little dead, they don't have a clew as to how to mix vocals, and the brass over on the right consistently verges on begin out of tune.  When you record in a dead room, which they clearly did (and which all normal recording studios pretty much are) you HAVE to add natural reverb and air - just listen to any classic Columbia cast album - that's why those sound so different and so amazing - and of course all of the ones I did tried to do exactly that and I think we were pretty successful.  Someone had put my Dolly on You Tube and I was listening to it and despite a sometimes anemic string section, it sounds pretty damn good.

Then I spent hours on the Sherman Brothers musical script.  I'm now halfway through act one and totally reorganized one entire sequence so it actually makes sense and now it plays beautifully.  I've added or removed only a handful of lines.  The writer is terrible at getting into a song - it's always bad and never sets up the song, so I've been adding those set ups.  I think he'll be fine with all of it.  But I'm now in a VERY tricky section where I'm going to have to do a lot of rearranging and cutting and pasting because nothing is smooth or where it should be for the storytelling to work.  But I do love the way the long sequence I did today turned out, so I'm ever hopeful.  I also think the first act is going to be too short - I did have to call Richard twice and ask for additional material, and he did those two brief things very quickly.

Someone just tried to scam me over the phone.

"John" has been calling me... I it sounds like a real person but it became obvious when I started asking questions that it was a robot call

Also, just trying to figure out how to get from where we are in the Sherman Brothers show to the end of the act - it's just all over the place and has no momentum.  I suspect I'm going to have to make some cuts, maybe have Richard write a new number, and perhaps write some new dialogue.

She sounded hoarse, she bailed on a lot of the higher notes - her low range was shot - she modified vowel sounds for some of the higher notes.... it was disappointing.  I was hoping we saw her on an off night and that the recording would show how she really sang the score.  Thank goodness it did!

I don't mean to sound like it isn't a major expense, because it is; but I don't really have an alternative.
