Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in retrograde and came out of Uranus, and now it is time for you to post until the retrograde cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GROK!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Must put the motor car in the garage.
-
When in doubt, listen to some Villa-Lobos. Always makes me happy. Revisiting his symphonies right now.
-
First post after BK!
-
Good night, BK.
-
Go finish reading a book! :)
-
First in the morning, even though I'm late!
-
Not much new to report here.
-
The governors of New York and New Jersey seems to went to take control of Penn Station tracks away from Amtrak. Can;t imagine Amtrak will see that as a negative. This will probably make trips to places like D.C., Baltimore and Boston harder if it goes private, but may be better for commuting, form what they say.
-
Whoever "they" may happen to be. Just some people on TV.
-
Do you reward a company that's doing a weak job and that feels hassled by reducing their workload?
Seems like an interesting plan.
-
I agree with the posts last night, that it does feel like BK's series is undervalued by the venue for some reason, or that they take it for granted.
-
Glad Jane and Keith made it home well!
-
Good morning, all.
-
So glad it's Friday. The week has blurred to an end.
-
Glad you made it home safely, Jane.
-
I was exhausted by the end of the work day yesterday for some reason
-
I came home on time ..left th office at 5:30 ..pulled into my driveway, by6 turned off the car but left the key in 'accessory" because I am listening to a book and wanted to hear the end of the chapter...the next thing I knew it was nearly seven.. I had dozed off
-
I came in made myself some dinner (Vixdad is working on a big project at work and wouldn't be home until after 10)
-
After I ate I sat down and opened up the iPad came here to catchup and then suddenly it was after 10 and Vixdad was walking in the door
-
I decided to give in and go to bed
-
My doctor thinks my thyroid levels are low ( my thyroid was removed in 1988 ) and is adjusting my meds , but I would have thought the new prescription would have made me more awake not less
-
Well I must get me to work. Laters

Vibes for Johns sister, parents and friend
-
Health vibes for all of us

Back when it first came out, I made the mistake of seeing THE LOVED ONE two or three days after my father's funeral.
I did not enjoy it and have never had the desire to revisit it.
I'm sure it's a good movie, but....
-
Usually, I'm promoting my own books, but today I want to make you aware of a fantastic new book written by a friend of mine, Tom Sawyer (no relation to Huckleberry Finn).
Tom began his career as a cartoonist, illustrating many classic comic strips of the 1950s. Moving to Hollywood, he wrote, produced and directed films and television series and is, most likely, best remembered for his work as the show runner on MURDER, SHE WROTE with Angela Lansbury. Indeed, when the ratings sagged, he saved the show.
Tom's new memoir, "The Adventures of the REAL Tom Sawyer," is one of the most engrossing and honest show business autobiographies I've come across in a long time. He pulls no punches about the business or himself.
If you aspire to get into "show business," or just like to read about how the business REALLY works, you will find Tom's book a fast, entertaining and informative read. I highly recommend it.

Nice to see DR Danise back! I am just catching up on the last few days of posts.
-
Last night I went out for my aunt's birthday. She wanted to take a bunch of us to a very fancy sushi place. It was so delicious I was in heaven!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Glad Jane and Keith made it home well!
Thank you. And I slept until 5:00. I suppose that isn'the too bad considering my internal clock is off :-\
-
Glad you made it home safely, Jane.
Thank you. I hope your sister is doing better today.

Oh, I just figured you needed more sleep. Maybe the medication you are on is not the best one for you.

Okay, people, listen up:
This cold really caught me but good. I'm in the throes of it, and I know that no matter what improvement I might feel through the day, it would be folly to think I can take an all-day trip into the city tomorrow and sit through a show. My coughing alone would be disruptive in the extreme, and in the end I'd be all the worse for it. So I'm afraid I'll have to forfeit my chance to see The Golden Apple.
Therefore, who would like to use my ticket? I'll email the PDF and you print it out and use it. It's got my name on it, but I can't imagine the ticket takers at the door looking at that, or that it would be an issue if they did.
FJL? Maybe we offer it to Ben or Anthony? Who am I neglecting to think of here?
VERY sorry to miss this, but I gotta get well for a multitude of activities that I simply can't afford to miss...
-
FJL? Maybe we offer it to Ben or Anthony? Who am I neglecting to think of here?
Thanks, Chas, I can;t use it - we're having people over in the late afternoon on Saturday.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept late, and then I lost my glasses. Since I'm really blind, I have to search while I do not accidentally break them or go into a panic mode. They are safely resting on my ears, but it was a scary 20 minutes of trying to find my old pair, getting dressed, and moving furniture.
-
I do not have much to do today, I must tidy up the apartment and clean off my writing desk, Tii much dross has accumulated, and I have to prepare for the 92nd Street Y show and, when I return from my Ohio jaunt, the NYMF show.
-
DR ChasSmith, I am sorry to miss you tomorrow.
-
Nice to see DR Danise back! I am just catching up on the last few days of posts.
Thank you, DR Jennifer. I having to relearn how the board works so I can "quote" people.
Good morning all! Glad DR Jane and DH Keith made it home safe and sound.
I understand your panic at losing your glasses, DR Elmore. I take my contacts out at night so I'm legally blind. I have a "path" to my bed and back to the bathroom but I would never venture any further then that without them in.
-
OMG! It's Friday.
-
I can't believe we haven't yet heard a word out of JRand!
-
DR ChasSmith, I am sorry to miss you tomorrow.
And I shall miss seeing you and vixmom!
I've sent a note off to Ben.
-
Since I spent most of yesterday thinking it was Friday, I am really a mess today.

I know the feeling though I am not quite that blind. At least I can now put in contacts.
-
Feel better DR Chas.

I can't believe we haven't yet heard a word out of JRand!
Is there anything on facebook?

I am happy to report that Ben is delighted to use the ticket. I told him to look for y'all afterward.

I also had a cup of hot chocolate this morning.

DR Jennifer I read the first book in a series I think you would like, "My Sister's Grave" by Robert Dugoni.
-
I'm up, I'm up - didn't fall asleep till seven, so four hours of sleep and Kay can't meet but I don't want to go sleep the afternoon away.
-
Last night, I ushered for a local (professional) production of Present Laughter, by Nöel Coward. It was very good! The set was gorgeous! The show was almost 3 hours long, but to me it didn't seem like it. The lead actor was fantastic! He and the show got a deserved standing ovation.
-
After the show, my friend Margo (who was also ushering) and I went out to a late dinner at McMenamins The Spar. I didn't get home until about 12:30 and promptly went to bed. Sorry I didn't check in, but I was too pooped to ketchup on the posts.
-
From yesterday: A Very Happy 62nd Anniversary (on Sunday) to John G's parents! And a Very Happy 42nd Anniversary to John's friends, Pam and Cecil!

Jane, about my crystal bowl that I have at work...you asked what I have in it. Nothing. ::)

OMG! It's Friday.
All day, even!
;)
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Jrand has been on my mind, as well, but he was told he's be in the hospital for 4-5 days, so I didn't expect him to post until today at the earliest. We're all anxious to hear from him, I know.

Any news from your sister, John G?
continued vibes to her for a complete recovery.

Topic of the Day: right now, I'm listening to the 2012 London cast recording of Gay's the Word (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Gays-the-Word-2012-London-Cast/24969/). When that's done, I'll listen to two CDs that I just received in the mail about half an hour ago: the new Broadway cast recording of Hello, Dolly! (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Hello-Dolly-2017-Broadway-Cast/36053), and new 2-CD live London cast recording of Dreamgirls (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Dreamgirls-2016-London-Cast/35703)!

Re The Federal:
I can't understand booking a show--any show--and then reneging on it. It's a commitment. Does The Federal take a percentage of BK's shows, but get paid a flat rate--and larger rate--for these others?
-
Oh, I almost forgot! Jane hit a significant millstone!
-
Continued vibes to TCB.
How long have you been sick now, Tom?
-
The Federal gets the food revenue plus about three bucks on every cover charge. And yes, when these entitled people show up and wave a big check, the Federal doesn't care about us at all. This has happened numerous times - last year it happened three times in a row, at which point I said I would leave if something wasn't done - it hasn't happened since then, and since when does a Bar Mitzvah party happen on a Sunday?
-
What day do Bar Mitzvahs generally happen in L.A.?
-
Ron, when I was planned my cross-country move I was surprised to learn that the bulk of the cost was with the non-discretionary items (my furniture and such) and that after a certain weight additional boxes didn't really add much to the cost. Of course, you don't want to have to pay to move things you won't need, but it's certainly less stressful to move a bit more, then sort it out later at your leisure. The moving company was also able to pick up all the stuff from my storage locker. I arranged to have someone I trusted there. Much easier than having to move it all back to my house! Some movers might be a little more flexible than you think.
-
Bruce, if you knew somehow for certain that you'd sell out would it still be less revenue for The Federal?
-
Any news from your sister, John G?
continued vibes to her for a complete recovery.
I will talk her this weekend. She's still sore and tired, according to her texts.

Yes, they get like ten grand for these events - it's all studio events or rich people waving their checkbooks. I always thought Bar Mitzvahs happened on Saturdays and that the parties were either directly after the event or that evening.
-
So you're treated like filler. Call me old-fashioned, but I feel a commitment is a commitment.
-
time for some lunch.
TTFN.

Families that are observant Jews, or who expect a number of their guests to be observant Jews, wouldn't hold the Bar Mitzvah party on Saturday this time of year - observant Jews can't travel or handle money on Saturday until after sundown.
-
In the winter, a 7 pm or 8 pm Saturday party is no problem, since sundown is very early that time of year.
-
Thanks for that input, Jeanne. The more I think about it, the more I think I'm willing to let the movers do.
-
Evening all. I won't be posting at this time next week when I go back to work.
Hoping that all are well. Sending Vibes to DR JRand and all who need them.

I was exhausted by the end of the work day yesterday for some reason
I GROK that feeling!

Fox is going to do Rent as well as the musical version of a Christmas Story for TV.
-
More Wacky Noodles, picked up some packages, and am working on the Sherman Brothers musical script.
-
These TV musical things are nothing if not amusing. They're already eating each other, Fox especially acting as if they created this whole thing. It will all be over soon. And Christmas Story? That deal happened, I'm quite certain, because the agent of the songwriters pushed it along.

It's a long way to page 5

The governors of New York and New Jersey seems to went to take control of Penn Station tracks away from Amtrak. Can;t imagine Amtrak will see that as a negative. This will probably make trips to places like D.C., Baltimore and Boston harder if it goes private, but may be better for commuting, form what they say.
Doesn't sound good.

Off to my parents' house, then concessions downtown.
Be back later!

Congrats to DR Jane on your HHW milestone!

Welcome back, DR Danise!

Vibes for TCB!

I also ordered Hello, Dolly from amazon.com. I got a package in the mail yesterday. Instead of the CD, the envelope contained 4 tire valve covers ( I think that's what they're called).. I called amazon yesterday and the representative told me that I would receive a replacement today. I didn't. Called again. Was told I will now get one on Sunday. I also got a $5 credit on future purchases. In addition, yesterday I was told I would get a one-month extension on my Prime subscription.
-
It's nice that Ben is able to go tomorrow. Too bad it wasn't scheduled a week earlier. I would have gone while I was in NYC.
-
Picked up packages. One of them contained the Shostakovich symphonies in a set that is universally thought of as being one of the best, and particularly Russian in sound, due to the Russian conductor (Kirill Kondrashin) and the Russian orchestra. These were issued once before but no one liked the sound. This set is remastered and sounds pretty good most of the time - these recordings are mostly from the 60s and 70s. I'm up to symphony three and am enjoying this set tremendously and it does have a very specific kind of orchestral sound to it, which is different than say Bernstein or Ormandy or Von Karajan.
-
Also got the Hello, Dolly CD - don't much care for the sound of it and I think I'd enjoy the performances more if the sound weren't so mediocre - it's just a bad mix, but sadly typical of today's cast albums - a dry acoustic, vocals not mixed properly - a direct comparison with my album from 1994 tells the tale better than I can. Ours is alive and vibrant and sounds like cast albums of old, but with a bit more control. Frankly, I think I'd enjoy the four tire valve covers more than this CD.

DR Jennifer I read the first book in a series I think you would like, "My Sister's Grave" by Robert Dugoni.
I haven't heard of that author or book. I am sinking right now with all of the library books and arcs I have.

When there isn't any school on Monday or it is during the day.
-
Yes, they get like ten grand for these events - it's all studio events or rich people waving their checkbooks. I always thought Bar Mitzvahs happened on Saturdays and that the parties were either directly after the event or that evening.
I guess it depends how busy the synagogue is. Maybe for some reason the party was delayed but I can't imagine why.

So you're treated like filler. Call me old-fashioned, but I feel a commitment is a commitment.
One would think so.

I figured that. Since I thought of you when I was reading the book I thought I would mention it.

We went out for an early dinner and then to the market for food. Our frig was basically empty.
-
That's a HELL of a milestone, Jane.

Finished with my viewing and listening to music.

No, Sharry's play closed last weekend. She and Micheal are currently in NYC.

Thanks everyone for the vibes. Actually I have been feeling pretty good today.

PRESENT LAUGHTER was one of my biggest successes back in the 70's. Boy, I would love to see that video again. Oh well, long gone.
-
Good night, all.

Page five? Really?
-
Don't make me get all Shostakovich on you.
-
I gotta tell you.

Think I'll shave tonight rather than tomorrow - so I can sleep a bit later.

I shaved this morning.

But I don't think I will shave tomorrow.

It is going to rain all weekend.

I feel sorry for those who have outdoor Mother's Day plans.

Hi, Tom.

Glad you've been feeling better!
-
What show did you work tonight?
-
Glad you've been feeling better!
Thanks, George.
-
What show did you work tonight?
It was a jazz concert. There wasn't much non-alcholic business, so it was pretty easy.
-
I didn't go in to watch, so I don't know who actually performed.
-
TCB, glad to hear it! Write an Amazon thing if you like - the more, the merrier. :)
-
What theater company is doing PRESENT LAUGHTER?

TCB, glad to hear it! Write an Amazon thing if you like - the more, the merrier. :)
I am working on it.
