Title: THE RELAXING DAY OFF AND OTHER ADVENTURES OF NO IMPORTANCE
Post by: bk on May 30, 2017, 12:18:23 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were relaxed and of no importance, and now it is time for you to post until the unimportant cows come home.

I was rather enjoy the Forbidden Broadway series.

Also liked the shows Ben Bagley worked on. A mixed bag if there every was one. But the composers and lyricists he got to write for them! Wow!

Today is our last full day to work on the show.  Tomorrow afternoon is the band rehearsal, Thursday a sitzprobe, and Friday and Saturday afternoon rehearsals before we open on Saturday night. I have "The Parisians" to do, and that will take me all day.  I'd rather stay home and work but I have things to take in for Joshie to deal with.

One week to Ohio!

Damn!  How did that get here so fast?  :)

Well, it feels fast to me.  It looks like my trip over there will be in July, which is quite a departure from the past however many years.  But the family has had as crazy a May as I've had, and it looks like June's a wash, too, what with these little obligations scattered about.

We enjoyed a couple of days of summer and then yesterday it cooled down again.  The upside of the cooler weather is that we don't mind missing a romantic trip to the coast to celebrate our anniversary on Thursday.

Long weekend is over.  Have been busy since 6:30 a.m. in office.

Unhappily, I get office e-mail on my cell phone...and Friday was a very busy day for people NOT in the office but people needing things only I can provide.

So...for the past two-plus hours, I've been schlepping all over the place getting things done.

Of course I read the e-mails as they came in and fumed a bit over the gall, but that's life.  I was off until today, and thatta, as they say, is thatta.

Well, I just received four, count 'em, FOUR CDs from www.dresscircle.com:

Tom Foolery (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Tom-Foolery-1980-Original-London-Cast/3871/), original London cast recording
Twang! (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Twang-1965-Original-London-Cast/2450), original London cast recording
Out of the Lens (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Out-of-the-Lens-2014-Original-Edinburgh-Cast/28543/), the original Edinburgh cast recording (never heard or heard of it...bought it on a whim)
Outlander (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Outlander-2010-Concept-Recording/21246), the concept recording from 2010 (this is based only on the books, the TV series hadn't happened yet)

I just realized that they're all CD-Rs.  I didn't plan on that, but there you have it.

The plumber arrived this morning and my kitchen sink now drains properly. The guy was on time and didn't yell at me like he usually does, nor did he blame me for the problem. He used to have a real anger management problem. I suspect he's taking some sort of medication, as he was definitely subdued.

I cleaned it all up and am very glad to have a functioning sink again.

Fascinating day with the writer.  He had not one comment on the script, which, as you know, I have heavily revised, so that was good.  But MANY comments on the music, some of which I'm happy to try and some I have to say no to - he's a good guy and he's all about the music, but sometimes he just doesn't "get" why we've changed up something in a song, all because we have to make it work for the scene and character - the issue in this show is that there are performance numbers and character numbers, and I feel strongly the latter have to function differently than the former.
Title: Re: THE RELAXING DAY OFF AND OTHER ADVENTURES OF NO IMPORTANCE
Post by: bk on May 30, 2017, 05:45:09 PM
We let everyone go at three, we did the note session with the writer, which he began not in the best way by antagonizing the musical director - not his intention, I think, but it was abrasive and confrontational, which is not the way to ever do these things if you want a good result.  I think he realized that later.  I basically refused to comment on most of the stuff other than general stuff, because I want him to understand I have to digest everything.

Evening all.  I don't know what I got into yesterday but I was sick all day long.  I didn't go to work today so I could rest and  I'm feeling better this evening.

I have to say it.  Men are weird.  Present company excepted.  I've already canceled my subscription and don't plan on trying any of the other sites.  I guess I'm just not meant to have someone special in my life.

Maybe not just through that site.  The fact you made an effort is great.

CONTINUE FEELING BETTER VIBES!

DR Ginny, that's awful news about the electricity.  I hope the electrician can offer4 some illumination on the problem.

No groaning allowed....

"The Parisians" is finished.  Joshie and I have completed our work. What a relief!  I'm starting to look forward to tomorrow's band rehearsal.

And I can sleep tonight!

I finally learned, as MR BK wrote, to take my time about commenting on ideas and criticisms from others involved in a production.....taking some time to THINK about what was said is usually more productive than just accepting or rejecting a suggestion out of hand.....

It looks like DR vixmom's photo was taken in front of the Torpedo Factory, as you guessed, DR Jeanne. (Don't mean to speak for you, DR vixmom!)

It was actually taken from the front dining deck of Blackwall  Hitch which is between the Torpedo Factory and the Chart House

The Gas Man Cometh - Flanders and Swann

'Twas on a Monday morning the gas man came to call.
The gas tap wouldn't turn - I wasn't getting gas at all.
He tore out all the skirting boards to try and find the main
And I had to call a carpenter to put them back again.
Oh, it all makes work for the working man to do.
'Twas on a Tuesday morning the carpenter came round.
He hammered and he chiselled and he said:
"Look what I've found: your joists are full of dry rot
But I'll put them all to rights".
Then he nailed right through a cable and out went all the lights!
Oh, it all makes work for the working man to do.
'Twas on a Wednesday morning the electrician came.
He called me Mr. Sanderson, which isn't quite the name.
He couldn't reach the fuse box without standing on the bin
And his foot went through a window so I called the glazier in.
Oh, it all makes work for the working man to do.
'Twas on a Thursday morning the glazier came round
With his blow torch and his putty and his merry glazier's song.
He put another pane in - it took no time at all
But I had to get a painter in to come and paint the wall.
Oh, it all makes work for the working man to do.
'Twas on a Friday morning the painter made a start.
With undercoats and overcoats he painted every part:
Every nook and every cranny - but I found when he was gone
He'd painted over the gas tap and I couldn't turn it on!
Oh, it all makes work for the working man to do.
On Saturday and Sunday they do no work at all;
So 'twas on a Monday morning that the gasman came to call...

Well, it's time for me to leave and go home.  I have some laundry to do (none of which I did this weekend...at all!), so I need to get started on it.  Why does it never end?? ;)

Be back later.

I've been reading through a new cookbook called Breakfast in Texas. The writer, Terry Thompson-Anderson, is a friend and she did mention some slight help I gave her in the acknowledgments, which was sweet of her.

Now all I want are arepas (corn cakes) with olive oil-fried eggs and salsa or brisket, bacon and egg breakfast quesadillas. Biscuits with sausage gravy, a Thai shrimp omelet and German apfelphannkuchen (apple pancake) are calling me. And I'm willing.

Back from a productive Dial 'M' rehearsal.  I finished act two, and did all of act three save for the final two pages, which we'll do tomorrow night.  So, four nights and we're basically blocked - I'm sure I will futz and finesse the blocking when the actors have scripts out of hand and I can really see what it looks like, but I'm pretty pleased with it.

Topic of the Day-III:  favorite off-Broadway show cast recordings (I've never seen these shows...yet):

3 Guys Naked from the Waist Down
Bed, Boys & Beyond
Charlotte Sweet

George, speaking of CHARLOTTE SWEET,  Christopher Seppe was the roommate of a good friend of mine in New York.  When I met him he was playing Matt in THE FANTASTICKS.  He died far too young.

A man was fishing on the banks of the Puyallup River, east of Tacoma, yesterday when he slipped and fell into the river.  A number of people attempted to save him from the river.  While they were trying to be Good Samaritans, some creep snuck over and stole all of their wallets and cell phones.

What is wrong with the world today??
