Good night, George.
I am going to try and sleep.
Listening to the 1957 recording of Persephone - a beautiful work by Stravinsky, released in mono - only guess what - sixty years later they found stereo tapes - seems as though it was slated for release at that time, cancelled, slated again two years later, and cancelled again and forgotten about. And the sound - they don't do it better today, that's all I can tell you. Stunning.
The folks who tech for the big LA theaters, including our team, have, I suppose, the classic way of doing tech - which I don't like, but I'm not gonna change these folks, even though if they actually did it my way they'd love it and change instantly. But cues are being written as we go, which means we move VERY slowly - we're not quite halfway through and it's pretty clear we won't get a run-through tomorrow, so Thursday everyone's gonna have to be back on their A game VERY quickly.
FJL, here's to much success with the release of The Last Starfighter!
FROM YESTERDAY
For FRED
Congrats on The Last Starfighter
and don't forget to tell them the cast album can be on sale in the lobby during intermission and after the show!
Condolences to DR TCB on the loss of his friend Sandy. The memories you posted were very nice.
I mentioned to my oncologist yesterday that I had been "marked" for radiation therapy and asked how that would work with the chemo regimen he was outlining....or would they be done at the same time....
He was quiet for a moment, and then he said he knew NOTHING about any planned radiation treatment for me....he got on the computer to look at all of my test results, etc., and then left saying he wanted to talk to the radiation doctor.
He came back several minutes later and said there would be a meeting on Thursday between him, the surgeon, and the radiation doctor to settle on the correct treatment.
I am a medical battleground....most interesting. He was very angry....he will call me tomorrow after the meeting.

Wednesday morning greetings! Just finished reading A Man Called Ove. One of my book groups is discussing it in an hour and the other is discussing it next month.

I went out with Randy on some errands, and we stopped by Enterprise to see if a rental car was ready for me. It was, and I now have a cute little red Hyundai for the week.

As someone who's usually got his head buried in a keyboard book during tech rehearsals (and sometimes just as grateful for the extra moments for working my own stuff out), I'd be very interested to know what the difference is between your method and the standard. I know I've been through a few that proceeded surprisingly quickly, but snail's pace has been more the norm.
My flight was a breeze yesterday. I thank the HHW vibes that it was on time and that the rain screwed nothing up.

I thought it dragged a bit in the middle, but I came very close to crying at the end. Next month, my evening group is having a potluck dinner and watching the movie together. Looking forward to that.
I am so sick of "politically correct”.
My play, JOLSON, was scheduled for an August production in a theater that I won’t name.
Terms were agreed upon. Contracts were drawn and sent for signature.
Then, I get an e-mail from the guy: He’s just realized that there is a scene in which Jolson appears in blackface.
"How should I handle it?” the guy wanted to know.
I suggested that he put a disclaimer in the playbill that explains the historical accuracy of blackface, and that virtually every major entertainer (e..g. Doris Day, Fred Astaire) well into the 1950s wore blackface at one time or another.
People who go to see a play about Al Jolson should know what to expect.
It appears that political correctness has struck again.

It has been - it's in this big box set.

My favorite commercial jingle:
"See the U.S.A.
In a Red Hyundai..."
Me, I'd like some photographic evidence of DR Elmore toodling by on a country lane wearing driving cap and gloves, goggles, silk scarf trailing in the breeze, and waving to that nice family of four having a picnic on a blanket spread out on the grass...

There might still be people there who are not educated regarding blackface. I think the disclaimer is a perfect way to educate them..
One item was in the mail today. The envelope looks like just the right size to send DR George a Keychain, which I should be able to do next week.
Sounds like the idiots are those who would license and schedule a play about Al Jolson ... and then be shocked, shocked, to find there's something about blackface in it. WTF?
I like to give audiences credit until proven wrong. They probably would have had the LEAST problem with it, assuming most of them know at least that much about Al Jolson, and that the issue is presented well (DR Druxy gets the benefit of the doubt here!), and especially with the use of the disclaimer.
I shall post the results of the doctors' meeting tomorrow upon receiving my phone call....yes it is in turn amusing and frightening....
Time will tell.
I had visits from my friend Vickie and my cousin Carol today - both were very welcome....much conversation and laughter was had during both visits - one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

ASK BK (a few questions for you)
When will the Audio Book of Thrill Ride be released?
Are you going to continue working on the stage version of The First Nudie Musical?
Do you have plans to do a new version or a follow-up of Believe: The Songs of The Sherman Brothers?
Can't remember if I asked this before
Have you considered doing an Indiegogo and/or working with Twilight Time restoring The Creature Wasn't Nice?
Condolences to DR TCB on the loss of his friend Sandy. The memories you posted were very nice.
Condolences to TCB on the loss of Sandy.
Vibes of comfort and peace for TCB and for all who loved Sandy.
TCB, I'm glad you got to spend some quality time with your nephew.
Sorry to hear the news, TCB.
In spite of everything, it's still a shock. It almost feels like the proverbial end of an era, since you've been able to share so many experiences with Sandy, and share them with us, over all this time.
You were a great friend to him. Vibes of comfort.
TO TCB
Sorry about your loss
DR TCB, my heart breaks for you. I am so sorry to learn of Sandy's death.

I went to Jack in the Box for dinner tonight.
Both of Sandy's sons were very kind about my attending the service.
How's Keith feeling? And how are you feeling?
And I'm glad the chemo doctor was mad. Better an angry doctor than an apathetic one.
I was part way home before I realized I still had my yarmulke on my head.

Aww, that is nice. I am glad you went. I am sure it meant a lot to Sandy's sons to have you there, and I hope it gave you comfort to be there.
