Well, you've read the notes, the notes did not kill a cauliflower, and now it is time for you to post until the killer cows come home.

I slept very poorly.  I dreamed about working at the Drama Book Shop on what was clearly a bad day: elevator out, I was in my underwear and looking for my shorts, the alcoholic employee I once fired was back, the store was a mess, and there was a large construction machine sitting in the shipping area.

I dreamt about living in a country, not necessarily the US, where there was no freedom of speech or press. I was a spy somehow developing something impervious to enemy attack by using the hexagonal structure of the beehive. It was all rather exhausting.

Gray Tom is a very ugly cat -- very much a tom with a very jowly face. He fights a lot, so he is beat up.

His fighting days are over now.

And the word of the day is: CAPRICIOUS!

The first time I ever heard this word was in the musical Victor/Victoria stage version: Paris by Night "She fools us all because she's so capricious" I had to look it up to know what it meant and never heard it used again.

Ask BK Or Any Other Dear Reader (on a Thursday, I just realized)...    :)

And I ask out of ignorance...

The stage version of Young Frankenstein...

Okay?  Good?  Great?  Bad?  Horrible?  Dead at the starting gate?  Has potential that can be capitalized on by a bright director?  Or what?

The film is fantastic; the musical loses in every dept.: casting, black & white film parody, score. etc.

"The Producers" was a fantastic musical, but Mel Brooks didn't know when to stop. One of his other films would have adapted better.

Young Frankenstein on stage is a big so what? musical. The songs only belabor the movie's many fine jokes. I saw a local production and applauded the set.

Re Young Frankenstein, this is all kind of what I expected to hear.  (Someone local had expressed an interest in mounting it.)

Not knowing when to stop is such a pitfall for so many people, and it's too bad when it's someone like Brooks who mostly DID know back in his movie making prime.

Why, I remember when there was just Mel, Woody, and some other guy...

Thursday morning greetings!  We had a nice breakfast yesterday with my cousin and his wife and then I accompanied them to visit Mom.  That went better than I'd expected and I'll be interested to see if she remembers it the next time I see her.  From there, Perry and Pam proceeded to Pittsburgh and I went grocery shopping.  I pretty much crashed the rest of the day and am not setting the world on fire this morning.

I don't know if I learned it from Cole Porter but he used it in his song Fish:

Fish, fish
Stop and take a look
Whet your appetite
I've got something on my hook
Won't you take a bite?
Don't be so capricious
Sample my line
All the other fishes
Say it's delicious.
Fish, fish
Won't you grant my wish?
Don't be so non-committal little fish.

That Cole. He was always so subtle.

iTunes is so wacky sometimes.  When I enter a multi-disc set I make sure all the info is the same in terms of album title and artist, and I make sure each disc number is in correctly.  So, I import this Vernon Handley Vaughan Williams set and it all goes in perfectly in disc order - except disc 6, which for some unknown reason shows up before disc one?  Anyone else have this issue.  I've double checked every single entry in the info field, spacing, spelling, and other than the disc number, which is correct as disc six of seven, everything is identical.  This way madness lies.

Well, it's time for me to go to rehearsal.  We're supposed to start from where we left off last night (I forget exactly where) and run the rest of the show.  We'll stop and fix things as we go, or make note of what needs to be worked on for later.

Be back later.

iTunes is so wacky sometimes.

Yes. It's a royal pain. I've had to delete and redownload the discs but I've had to change the names first.

Not yet. He will go back outside tomorrow night.

I like that you have kept him for the night.  Most people, I know, release the same day as the surgery.

Went to Von's and got a couple of tiny snacks.  Came home and ate them whilst listening to the earlier mono Vaughan Williams set by Adrian Boult (one stereo performance - the ninth - Vaughan Williams was supposed to attend that recording session and died seven hours before it took place.  It's a great recording - this set is on Decca but I already had that ninth on an Everest CD.  They basically both sound very good, with this one having the slight edge in terms of depth.  The mono stuff is mono but so far I like the performances better than the later first stereo set from the 60s.  I think I'd like those better than I do if they actually went back and remastered them - the thing they keep rereleasing over and over again in various guises was mastered in 1986 and heaven knows from what.  If they went back to the tapes and did it again I'm sure I'd feel differently about listening to that set.

So it's looking very promising that we might have a production at Second Story during their 2017-18 season.

We started from where we left off last night and got through the title song.  We just have the last big Corny Collins Show end-of-show scene, and we'll have gotten through the whole show. ::) Now, we can run the whole show during the rest of the rehearsals...hopefully.

Yup...VERY quickly!  And tonight I got another role that I have to learn.  I'm now the jail guard.  I don't know what happened to the person who was going to play the role, but they weren't there tonight, so the director said that I'm now the guard. :D
