One of the first shows that came to my mind was a British show called Murder Most Horrid (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00F4578F6/).  Dawn French (of French & Saunders (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0010SARGI/) fame) is the lead, and in each segment, someone (usually whatever character that Dawn French plays) gets killed...hilariously. :D

TOD:

Alfred Hitchcock - half hour & hour versions. My favorites were The Unlocked Window and Where the Woodbine Twineth

The Twilight Zone - half hour version.  Many favorites!

Desilu Playhouse  - hmmm, I shall have to look at an episode list to find one...a favorite, that is.

I wanted to like the Richard Boone Show, but I didn't like many of the other actors he had in his repertory company.

TOD

Twilight Zone
For me the best episodes were in no particular order were

The Eye Of the Beholder
The Hitchhiker
The Invaders (Agnes Morehead gives a standout performance)
The Monster Are Due On Maple Street
Nightmare at 20,000 Feet
Time Enough At Last (Great Twist Ending)
To Serve Man
The After Hours
Five Characters in Search of an Exit
Where Is Everybody?
Third From the Sun
The Masks

An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge which was actually an Oscar winning short that was bought for the series and slightly edited for time. It plot structure has been reused many times over the years like Jacob's Ladder. So if one knew this film the latter had no surprises.

Post by: Michael on July 25, 2017, 05:05:05 AM
There was also Night Gallery, but from I understand Rod Serling had no artistic control over the series and only a few episodes were worthy. The multiple stories were also varying lengths as episodes were either 90 minutes, 60 minutes, 30 minutes

Eyes (Joan Crawford and one of Steven Spielberg's first directing jobs)
Lone Survivor
They're Tearing Down Tim Riley's Bar (Probably the best episode of the series)
The Messiah on Mott Street (2nd Best)
Big Surprise
Green Fingers (Scary ending)
The Caterpillar (Shock ending)

I can't really blame the scouts, they were just following a tradition.  Ignoring the tradition would have made a political statement.

"The Boy Scouts of America is wholly non-partisan and does not promote anyone position, product, service, political candidate or philosophy. The invitation for the sitting U.S. president to visit the National Jamboree is a long-standing tradition and is in no way an endorsement of any political party or specific policies. The sitting U.S. president serves as the BSA's honorary president. It is our long-standing custom to invite the U.S. president to the National Jamboree"

Spectrum guy is still here but the problem has, hopefully, been solved.  The modem they gave me a year ago was a modem/router - so, my Time Machine/Airport router was getting confused by the modem router - like two cars coming to the same intersection - one has to stop to let the other go - and it was timing out while that was happening.  He gave me a brand new modem only - it took a while to get my router to recognize it, but finally it did and I'm on a much faster 5G network now (on my phone, too), so all that's good.  He's now looking at the outside wires and is going to replace because they're really old.

Not brave enough.  The Boy Scouts of America should censure the Orange Baboon for his totally inappropriate comments and for turning the "speech" into a Hitler Youth Rally.

I've started to watch the Malick movie. It's fun to see so many familiar Austin locations, but the style of storytelling is a little too ellipitical. Too interior, yet not enough. Too little dialogue and yet perhaps too much.

Can't fault the performers. Rooney Mara is spectacular, Ryan Gosling is good. Michael Fassbender is his usual self, also good, and now Natalie Portman has entered the picture. She's just fine.

As fascinating as it is, I can't help feeling that it's all bullsh-t.

Tomorrow's lunch is a DA (dining adventure) - going to a jernt called Connie and Ted's - it's a seafood place but serves stuff like lobster rolls (when did these become a "thing") - I'm going because they're really the only place in LA where you can get fried clams that actually look good.  So, that's what I'm having - a salad and fried clams.  Already have my reservation for 11:30.  It's a very popular jernt.

Listening to more Miaskovsky.  Hard to digest all these symphonies in one listening, but so far I've enjoyed the six or seven that I've heard - thankfully most of his symphonies are no more than thirty-five minutes, some much shorter than even that.

The day was dull and grey but as we approached the stadium the sun broke through and it was a beautiful night, 69 degrees, no humidity and an occasional light breeze

Nice.

And afterwards there was a spectacular fireworks show

Even better.

Even Val Kilmer is not Val Kilmer.  And neither is Joyce Kilmer.

It isn't 80% humid, like Austin.

I'm going through the video clips that I have recorded on one of my DVD burners and the oldest clip (Roger Daltry on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno) is from September 6, 2011!  I really need to burn these into discs!

Something else that I still have on this DVD burner is BK's episode of The Partridge Family where they're on the cruise ship.  I recorded it back in November 2012 and I didn't delete it!  I know I burned this onto discs for several people here, but I don't think I'll delete it just yet.

At least, it doesn't date back to Johnny Carson.
