Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a nice visit, and now it is time for you to post until the visiting cows come home.

Topic of the Day:  watching on my DVR right now:  the second of the last three episodes of "Emerald City."  This episode was broadcast on February 24, but I didn't take the time to watch it.  The series was cancelled shortly after the season ended.  Only one episode left then it's all over for me.

And during these two episodes that I watched were commercials for other shows that have already been cancelled.

Last night I got drowsy while reading and ended up napping for about an hour and a half right in the middle of the evening.  When I went to bed I was still a little sleepy, but thanks to the nap I laid there awake for two or three hours.  So now I once again feel greatly in need of more sleep.  I'll lie back down in a bit and try for another nap, a productive one this time.

I'm afraid I have nothing else to report.  My TOD is empty, as I haven't had time or haven't been in the mood to seek out anything in particular to watch or listen to.
Title: Re: THE VISIT
Post by: ChasSmith on August 04, 2017, 05:13:35 AM
Oh -- I will be going to see DUNKIRK this evening for sure.

This is a busy traditional (original) Imax connected to Norwalk's Maritime Aquarium, and they run the typical Imax nature/science/travel features through the day.  When they have the occasional feature film in Imax it only gets an evening showing, so DUNKIRK is at 7 pm, and on weekends they add another at 9:30 pm.

Title: Re: THE VISIT
Post by: ChasSmith on August 04, 2017, 05:14:04 AM
Prior to arriving for the showing, I'm stopping at the aforementioned Barnes & Noble -- speaking of which, I just got an email announcing a one-week extension to the Criterion sale.  Instead of ending Monday the 7th, it'll now continue through Monday the 14th.  I love it when they do that.

I will never go to one of those 4DX things.  Not ever.  Not to try it even once.  No interest at all.

I can tolerate and enjoy the occasional Disney attraction such as "Star Tours" that puts you through that, and more, for all of several minutes.  But even the thought of watching a feature-length film with your chair moving and water and smells and stuff coming at you... are you kidding me?  If that's what the kiddies go for these days, then go ahead and sell it to them.  But I call bullshit on it.

Joshie, Rob Berman, and our friend Eric Dietz came to the performance. They were all complimentary about the cast, staging and the orchestrations.  Rob asked if we ever had a children's audience for this children's musical.  I'm hoping tomorrow's 10:30 performance plays to a higher percentage of children.  The play is very funny, and Joshie laughed a lot.

Then Rob took Joshie and me to the West Bank Cafe where we celebrated The New Yorkers and the 92nd Street Y Lerner and Loewe show.  The dinner was quite wonderful, and we had nearly three hours of food food and drink, laughs, and dish.  Our pretty blonde waitress Kimberly had worked with Joshie in the Irish Rep's Finian's Rainbow this year, and  she had recently auditioned for Rob for the Encores! Brigadoon this fall.

We began with the burrata and roasted artichokes, and we all had the crab cakes.  Also, side orders of broccoli rabe and the truffle mac'n'cheese. For dessert we shared the apple crostada and a wonderful strawberry ce cream combo.

Last night, we watched ALIAS NICK BEAL.

Great atmosphere and performances, but it ran too long and got a bit silly.   ANGEL ON MY SHOULDER handled this kind of "sell your soul to the Devil" material so much better.

Thanks, Jrand!

Marian and I are hopeful that the producer's suggestions will make the show better and not just different, but I'm reminded of the line "What comes first for a new musical - the music or the words?"  and the only partly-kidding answer "The funding."  So the producer must be respected.

Friday afternoon greetings!  We were outta here early for Richard's routine doctor appointment, including a fasting blood draw.  We then went to Northstar Cafe for a nice breakfast, which for me included a nosebleed on the side  :P

I recovered quickly enough to enjoy my breakfast and a second cup of coffee.  A quick stop at Target and now we're home waiting to see if the weather clears up for this evening's First Friday festivities in downtown Middletown.

We went to a celebration breakfast afterwards.....my sister Molly and i decided to reenact the wig scene from Valley of the Dolls.

Many people were watching us, and I am sure they all thought I thought my hair looked very natural.....the reaction when Molly pulled it off while we were paying our check was most wonderful.  I am sure many people have stories to tell their friends now....one man was just coming through the door when it went down - and his face was priceless!

Brigadoon this fall.

so  glad you had such a nice evening.

Watched one excellent episode of the Hitchcock Hour, skipped a bad one that should have been a lot more fun - with Tony Randall and Jayne Mansfield (in a short wig), and fell asleep during a third, so I'm just on the computer and listening to the symphonies of Alexander Glazunov.  Very enjoyable and much like Borodin and every bit as good and tuneful.

Watching Romance on the High Seas. It's a total piece of fluff with Doris Day in her first film role, but Michael Curtiz directs it with the right breeziness and the music is wonderful. It's Magic is the big song, but Jule Styne has some nice tunes throughout.

Still listening to Glazunov and thinking about doing another jog, a shorter one so that the total today would be four miles.  Will he or won't he?  To jog or not to jog, that is the question.

Saving the final two Glazunov symphonies for the 'morrow.  Now I'm listening to some Prokofiev symphonies conducted by Erich Leinsdorf - these are incredible performances of the four symphonies he recorded - right to the head of the class, for sure.  In this set, he also conducts all the piano concertos and violin concertos, which I'm looking forward to, as the set of concertos I had wasn't to my liking at all.
