Sorry that I was E & T last evening.  I got sick in the night and felt under the weather all day.  I ended up sleeping the entire evening away sprawled across my bed with the TV blaring away.

You'll Never Get Rich has a lovely Cole Porter score that is poorly used. But those songs--Since I Kissed My Baby Goodbye, Dream Dancing and So Near and Yet So Far--are just gorgeous.

As I recall, DR Kerry also had a soft spot for this movie as well.

New anti-Nazi movie from the director of Downfall is opening today. It's called 13 Minutes about the young man who tried to kill Hitler but his bomb didn't go off until after Hitler had left.

I think I'm going to try to see it this weekend.

Yesterday evening within the space of, like, two hours, I felt myself getting an ear infection.  For me, that is a thing of horror, and thank the gods friend Nathan had a spare Amoxycillin I could pop, to get me started on something just in case.  With that and a bunch of aspirin, I felt relief and was able to get a surprisingly good sleep.  I feel "okay" if stuffed up right now, and will be checking in with the doctor at 2 pm.  I know from experience that it's possible this is only summer allergies wreaking havoc, and not an actual infection, but I shall take no chances.

Last night, we watched IT HAPPENED AT THE WORLD'S FAIR, recorded off of TCM, with Elvis Presley and me.

It was my first paying show biz gig.  I got $10 + a box lunch.

If you knew where to look, you could spot me...twice.

Otherwise, it's a boring movie.

I appreciated the meals on set. Friday Night Lights kept us way late in the night once.  They were facing serious overtime for us and they still brought in pizza at about 11:30 pm with an extra few hours to film.

We had planned to stop at the market on the way home.  Along with our luggage we have our shredded tire and damaged rim in the trunk in case we need proof for our insurance company.  Home first, a trip to the car wash, and then the market.

I've been reading little bits at a time of Proust Was a Neuroscientist, but the book is so dense with scientific information that I can only read five or six pages at a time to let it all sink in.

Fun book, though. It's about artists who knew scientific things long before science proved them. I've read chapters on Walt Whitman, George Eliot and Escoffier already. On the Proust chapter now.

Back from the Coach of Ella - four hours on the road (two each way) is a little too much car time for the likes of me.  Getting there took exactly two hours and there was only one slow down on the 210 due to an accident - ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FREEWAY.  But the morons on my side all had to literally stop and eyeball and from all four damn lanes.  It took about ten minutes to get through that nonsense.  Coming home was actually an hour and fifty minutes because no traffic and I basically went eighty the entire way.

The show went well, although Robert was nervous and went up a few times - he recovered each time, but my main note for him tonight was for him to stop beginning numbers thinking he's going to go up - which is why it's happening.  The audience had a good time.  Several people came up to me and said that the last couple of acts have seemed thrown together and were basically just a bunch of songs with no point, no interesting patter, nothing personal, and no structure.  So, they were really happy tonight because we do have all that.  Alby's mic was either off or he was too far from it, because we lost several laughs because no one could hear him.  When they DID hear him the laughs came easily.  There's one song in the show that just isn't working at all - we won't change it for this run, but it's coming out and will be replaced by something that has a little more impact.
