Well, you've read the notes, the notes were inexorable, and now it is time for you to post until the inexorable cows come home.

I had strange dreams last night.  One long one about recording a soundtrack to a French film that had been edited to remove the nudity for a PG rating.  It was a silly coming-of-age film with casual moments of nudity from the "teen-age" cast.  At one part of the dream I was trying to get a monitor to work so that I could be sure there was no nudity in a sequence to be rescored.  In another, a young girl - niece? goddaughter? figment of the dream? - was talking to me about her friendship with one of the musicians who was lesbian.  There was a fierce lady guarding the doors to the studio from the booth who made it difficult for me to talk to the players.

I sort of resent that they've named this hurricane "Harvey".

HARVEY was the first stage play I ever saw.  I was five-years-old, and I still remember moments from it, particularly star Joe E. Brown.

Now, that wonderful memory is sullied.

Saturday afternoon greetings!  We got to do some more hymn-singing with more Methodists this morning at another funeral.  This time it was for a man who belonged to our former church here in Middletown for 60 years.  He and his late wife were both in the choir and she was very tolerant when I sat behind her.

I called my cousin in Houston. She said that it was pouring early this morning, but then eased off to just a light rain. There have been no problems where she is, but may have been elsewhere. She said four drivers, who went out this morning, were reported stranded. Can't people sit still?

An interesting article about pink noise:

Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen, MDs
The Benefits of Pink Noise

By Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen, MDs
In the 2005 thriller "White Noise," Michael Keaton plays a man who comes to believe that his recently deceased wife is contacting him through the static, or white noise, on untuned radios and televisions.

Well, it turns out that there's more than one myth about the powers of white noise: According to a new small study published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, white noise isn't the best way to tune out nighttime distractions and sounds so that you can sleep better.

You want pink noise!

Tracking 13 older adults over two nights, researchers from Northwestern University found that a "pink noise" mixture of high and low frequencies, which sound less random than white noise, created more slow-wave brain activity.

And slow-wave sleep has been linked to brain restoration

But not only did the researchers find that folks listening to pink noise slept more soundly, it turns out the next day their brains were supercharged.

Those study participants did nearly 27 percent better on memory tests compared with folks who didn't sleep with pink noise.

This finding matches with past studies done in younger adults that have also uncovered an improved memory the morning after sleeping with pink noise.

Studies on pink noise have been small, and we don't know how much benefit it provides over time, but it can't hurt to give this lullaby a try.

You can download a pink noise generator from several sites online or purchase a pink-sound machine.

About the Doctors:

Dr. Mehmet Oz is host of TV's popular "The Dr. Oz Show." He is a professor in the Department of Surgery at Columbia University and directs the Cardiovascular Institute and Complementary Medicine Program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Dr. Mike Roizen is chief medical officer at the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute, an award-winning author, and has been the doctor to eight Nobel Prize winners and more than 100 Fortune 500 CEOs.

Listening to Strauss - Richard to be precise.  This guy could write some damn music, most of which I'm not familiar with - not as heavy as the other Richard, Wagner.  Listening to the very Kempe box set of Strauss that's available at a huge bargain price in my list yesterday because I had two of the same set.  Currently listening to the waltzes from Der Rosenkavalier - how many times have these been ripped off by film composers?  Surely Mr. Goldsmith was inspired by them for The Boys from Brazil.  Death and Transfiguration is another masterpiece I'd only heard once before and of course the entire Also Sprach Zarathustra is brilliant and not just its 2001 opening section.  Looking forward to some other discoveries in these nine CDs - the performances and sound are simply tops.

Reading up on Strauss, Richard.  What a fascinating life and person.  He passed away at eighty-five - once thought by Toscanini to be a Nazi sympathizer, he was anything BUT that - I'm interested to know more about him now.  Listening to these pieces it's amazing how many film composers took leaves from Strauss's book, especially Steiner and Korngold.  These pieces all sound like they could have been film music from the thirties and forties.  Why it took me so long to get around to listening to this amazing box set is anyone's guess.

One pair of characters has been in a relationship for almost the entire series, but for anyone else, they'll meet someone and within two episodes (at the most), they're absolutely in love and so is their intended, and when the relationship ends in another couple of episodes, they're utterly devistated. :P

BK the hurricane hS been downgraded to a tropical storm but not before wreaking havoc on the coastline.  The big problem now is flooding as th Storm is just sitting off shore and has already dumped more than 24 inches of rain on the area

Nobody has told the winds and rain outside my house that they've been downgraded.

;)  I would expect not.

DR Druxy I believe you are still getting what was predicted since you are outside of the main zone.

I am currently sick to my stomach, more about which in the notes.  Let's just say that I've had two volumes of Illustration Art The Golden Age sitting here since I did the paperback show in March.  I finally looked through them today and it kind of broke my heart in a way and then just made me regurgitate up some bad feelings - I'll shower them away momentarily.  Let's just say as I looked through these two volumes that at one time or another I owned paintings by at least a third of the artists included - but that's not the painful part - no the painful part is that I owned SIX of the paintings actually featured in the book, THAT is the painful part.  The only bit of good news is that there was a seventh painting that I owned that I thankfully STILL own.  One painting they say they don't know what it was used for - I could have told them since I still have the magazine cover for it.  I so wish I still owned all of the paintings that I had to sell because those terrible people I got into business with made me spend $200,000 on a lawsuit they knew going in they could not win - they also knew that I would probably walk away from it when that was the only path left to them, which, of course, they were right about.  But to pay those legal bills required selling all those incredible paintings, including four Saturday Evening Post covers.  May these people suffer the rest of their lives for what they did - they won't, of course.  The wealthy rarely do.  They caused harm, which is what they intended to do.  Bravo.  And I can't even contemplate what those paintings would be worth today.  I do know that my Leyendecker 1921 Post cover would most likely bring $150K today rather than the $55K I sold it for.

It's completely ridiculous and pathetically over the top...IMHO (in my humble opinion, in Internet-speak).

;)

I have to ask, why are you still watching it? ;D

Well, that's the question.  My only answers are 1) I'm hoping that all the over-the-top angst settles, and 2) male eye candy. ;)

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes and health vibes!!!  They are working!

I was in a bit of pain yesterday and today.....so I took a full dose of my pain medication instead of the half dose I usually take....

It was a great trip....whew!  It wasn't peyote, but it was some fine flying time!

Great news, Jrand!

Listened to several SACDs - one of which was absolutely horrible - interested to hear the second volume - I thought it was gonna be amazing since the recent CD remastering was so fantastic - this is shrill and obnoxious and nothing like the CD.  Yuckilicious.  On the other hand, I listened to the multi-channel version of Miles Davis' Kind of Blue and that's spectacular and let me tell you that has NEVER sounded so yummilicious and of course it's a brilliant album.  A Bill Evans Trio SACD from the early 60s, just stereo, was not nearly so good.  Go know.  So not every SACD is made equally.  I never got around to watching anything.

Now I'm back to Strauss, Richard, who I am so happy to acquaint myself with.  His orchestration is so masterful.
